Paris Hilton to play Mother Teresa?! Say it ain't so!

Rolled over nuthin'.

You know, I have to admit this surprised me, but it shouldn't have. After all, if Alan Alda can play a Republican Presidential candidate on the West Wing, what's the stretch for this?

Can you imagine Paris on the set?

Paris: Look at these clothes, I can't wear this??
Director: Why not?
Paris: Well, they're dirty, they're rough and there's no place for me to put (Paris turns to her dog) my cute little Tinkerbell! I don't even see a designer label. Who made these?
Director: Those clothes were woven by those women over there.
Later...
Director: Ok, I want you to pick up one of the childr...
Paris: I have to what!?!
Director: What's wrong now?
Paris: No one said I had to touch some dirty little kids.
Director: Don't you know who Mother Teresa was? She cared for the poor and sick all her life. Dirt never hurt her. She was commited to lifestyle without many of the amenities of...
Paris: The what?
Director: Amenities. The good things of life? Luxuries?
Paris: What are you saying? No cellular sidekicks? No penthouse suites?
Director: No electronics. Minimal foods. Sometimes she'd get clean drinking water.
Paris: Well, at least the guys around here look good...
Director: Oh, no men either. She always put the needs of others before her own needs.
Paris: Alright, I'm outta here.

Things that you have always wondered about...
Time
1. In the Shadows of the Empire novel, there is a scene where he removes his armor/breathing apperatus and using some Sith healing technique to heal his lungs enough to let him breathe normal air for a few minutes. I suppose he can probably do the same thing to eat.

2a. I have wondered the same thing
2b. Yoda force moves it?? I don't know that one either.

3. That has been a question asked for years. I don't think anyone knows.

Myspace
Time
Working at a library, I can tell you that myspace has quickly become the most popular site among all ages. I signed up for it myself so I could understand it better. So I could understand what a kid is doing at the computer.

I have to be honest that it scares me.
Let me tell you about the general age groups and why each worries me:

1. There are a lot of kids that I think are under 14 that lie about their age to create accounts. They "make friends" with anyone and everyone, not knowing who they are. I don't believe they understand what they are potentially getting themselves into. That is a recipe for disaster. And I don't believe its a matter of 'if' its a matter of 'when'.

2. Then there are the testosterone(sp?) driven teenager boys that add their RL friends...and any female that happens to show some measureable amount of skin in their picture. These kids worry me because they know EXACTLY what they are getting into.

3. Finally, there are the adults. I'm not worried so much by what they are doing at the site, except that they could find themselves talking to one of the kids who lied about their age.

On the positive side, some of these kids are learning HTML/CSS, alays a nice skill to have.

Kev,
There are a variety of sites out there with 'myspace layouts'. You just copy-and-paste some code and you get something fancy.
Personally, I have enough HTML and CSS knowledge that I simply viewed a random profile, checked the source code and was able to work my way through it to see how the changes were made.

What say you about all this ladies & gentlemen?

I say I'd like to help that Harvard librarian get a job. We've been done a person for several months here at the library where I work. Anyone know if she's single??

But seriously, I don't know what I think. I think I'd have to actually be IN the position of knowing the person before I could judge.

Star Wars Holiday Special on Conan
Time
Finally watched the clip last night...Ford's reaction is quite good.

I described the action to the rest of my family. My dad said Ford should have pretended to shoot Conan under the table (ala Greedo). I explained that Ford was next to Conan, rather than in front of him (making the angle very difficult), then I suggested that if it had been done that way, Lucas would have had to edit the film to make it look as though Conan shot first.

Lawless will reprise the role she took this season as an investigative journalist who turns out to be an undercover agent for the villainous Cylon faction. Lawless' second appearance on the ensemble drama is slated for February 24. Her arc will commence with the show's third season, which begins production in April in Vancouver.

Didn't realize Xena was in BSG. Gotta start renting those.
Yup.

Remember the episode with the blonde reporter put on Galactica after a civilian was shot by a Colonial Marine? She was the reporter. I didn't recognize her very easily either.

NOW the US is in there fighting the same people they trained, who are now using the weapons left by the soviets.
One big difference.
The Soviets spent...10 years trying to take over. The US ousted the Taliban in, what, about a year. Sure, there are a few pockets always causing trouble (like in Iraq) but that is to be expected.

I think I've said this before on this forum, but it bears repeating:
For a long time, the US government used the philosophy of The enemy of my enemy is my friend. We allied with the Soviets in WW2 against Hitler.
We helped Saddam against Iran in the Iran/Iraq War.
We aided Bin Laden in Afghanistan.
I know there are more examples, but I'm not sure of any at the moment.

Anyways, if you look at what is happening now, the US isn't really doing that. Despite what many (like the French) may say, the EU is probably the closest ally we have. Most of them were allies in Iraq/ Afghanistan and most are united against Iran right now.
If you look to the east, Japan and South Korea are fairly strong allies and both are on our side concerning North Korea.
China and Russia, right now, are 2 big wildcards.

Well, I'd like to give props to Warner Brothers for their mostly tagboard DVD cases. This things are some of the worse cases I've had to deal with.

Dune?
Time
dvd.ign.com said the video quality on this new disk is pretty bad:
Presented in an anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) transfer preserving the original theatrical format, Dune looks far worse for wear than it should, given that so many lesser movies have enjoyed spectacular remastering jobs to restore their luster. Granted, one can't expect a transfer of Star Wars proportions for a movie that grossed less than its production budget, but it appears that the DVD producers spent absolutely no time polishing up the picture and sound (more on that later) after the round of back-patting that must have ensued when they convinced Universal to release both versions of the film.

I'm not sure how much freedom comes into the equation for me. Still living with my parents, I don't have as much freedom as I imagine I'd have if I found myself an apartment.

Guilt over isolation? At the moment, I have to say not a chance.
The computer lab where I work is segregated from the rest of the library...much of the time I only see coworkers when I leave for dinner or if there is a problem with a computer in another part of the library.
When I'm at home, my family knows to let me alone unless its time to eat.

However, past experiences forge future reactions. Perhaps at some point in the future, I won't be able to say that.

I think you're mistaken Dayv. I'm pretty sure its Zombie Island that spawned interest for a 3-4 more animated movies and the new cartoon show that's on now.

*runs to check IMDB and Frank Welker's info since he's been the only Fred Jones

Cyber Chase in 2001.
Alien Invaders in 2000.
Witch's Ghost was in 1999.
Zombie Island was 1998.

Before that, the last Scooby-Doo entry for Frank is 1994.

That sounds like Benjamin Desraeli, but I'm not sure.

Let me throw my 2 cents in on the thread, though.

I'm 25 and single.
More than that, I've never dated. Not for lack of interest, mind you, there seems to always be some woman that attracts my attention. Maybe it was someone that I saw during the day, maybe I was looking at my high school yearbook and remembering people I haven't seen in the 8 years.

No, a big part of my problem is that I am very much reserved. Part of that is my...let's call it a motus operandi...is that I'm an observer, a researcher. I hate to go into any situation unprepared. Along these lines, I feel I must have some common ground with a person before I can really talk to them and get to know them.
Ex. A married coworker has a single friend she wants me to meet. (Well, I'm not sure about it, she keeps talking about it to get me flustered, but she has yet to actually do anything.) Anyways, she keeps saying that sometime when we have the same schedule, she's going to take me and this friend to dinner. I'm dead-set against it because I'm walking into a situation where I don't feel I know enough about the friend to do anything besides eat.
I'll bet I could talk, if I had any idea what to talk about.
Now, if the friend came in to the library and used a computer, I'd feel a lot less pressure. I'd be in my comfort zone at the library. I can observe what she does on the computer, letting me learn something about her. Keep that up for a few days and maybe I'd feel better about things.

I also have a self-instilled professional courtesy prevents me from saying anything to a patron at the library. I'd probably be more comfortable if I ran into one of them at a store. Maybe I'm not in my comfort zone there at the store, but at least I've already got some small relationship (supervisor/patron) with them already.

You know what I am? I think I'm a combination of Stanley Ipkis (main character from The Mask), the 1955 George McFly (Back to the Future...and before he slugged Biff) and postman Cliff Clavin (Cheers).

Do I prefer being single? I'm not sure how to answer that question. I consider myself happy in my life right now, but a lot of my high school friends are already married and having families so I feel like I am missing something from life.
Life is very routine, but that's how I like it. A shake-up from dating or marriage would be a problem for me...at first. Eventually I'd settle into a routine again.

Dune?

I've never sat down and watched any of the Dune stuff that's been done. I saw the first...maybe 30-45 minutes of the original movie, but I just couldn't get into it. I think I felt the narration was too repetative and I had difficulty keeping track of everything I was being told.

Give me any 60s-70s Scooby-Do WITHOUT the canned laughter and I'll be satisfied...or the Zombie Island movie. I didn't mind that movie, and I really like the soundtrack.
