Star Wars OT '97 SE - TB Airing SD Preservation (* unfinished project *)

Turned off resync in VDub and it no longer does that. But, I still have sync issues in the capture. I'm capturing YUY2 AVI. Any suggestions to stop this from happening? It doesn't seem to be dropping frames either, it just says that it "inserted frames".

Capture in uncompressed YUV (YUY2) is quite stressful for the CPU, in particular old ones; my advice is to use a lossless codec, like Lagarith or MagicYUV (a new codec) - don't forget to set YUY2 instead YV12 - probably, frame dropping will end due to lower CPU usage.

Of course, the best situation is to capture always with any other software closed - just VirtualDub should be opened, and with the right sync settings.

I've been on myspleen and I can only see the Star Wars 97'SE theatrical track, which i've already very kindly been provided with by CapableMetal. Still waiting on the other two though. :(

Actually, there are all three episodes there, compressed in .7z

I'm sorry to not be able to help with the latest request, as my actual display is an ancient LCD very small monitor, which could not be finely tuned... oh, I miss you very much, my huge 55' HDTV! (^^,)

Alien/Aliens Color Regrade (a WIP)
Time

I was forced to be offline due to my HDTV (actually my only monitor) had to be fixed, and in just ten days all this happened?!? Well... WONDERFUL!!! (^^.)

I'm so happy a "new wave" of fan restorers is rising up!

Back to topic: I think LD color grading is the way to go, apart some shots that should NOT be used, like Ash's head scene.

Last Aliens regrade (bottom pic) is very good, but I'd try also the channels remix way - the more options, the better IMHO.

About LD 2.0 track: which LD will you use? Because I think there *could* be different mixes out there, *maybe* also analog and PCM could be different...

SPORV bring on your MM2 regrade! Can't wait to see it!

Agreed SPORV ! Bring it on !

Andrea's got a lot of things on his plate right now so you could be waiting a long time.

A suggestion though, why not give it a shot yourself? That goes for Stamper as well.

Oh I know. I have been told.

I wish I could help more with projects.

I know I have little skills in this area.

I lack the knowledge, the resources, the computer power to contribute as I would like.

Sad but true.

But I know if I did I would help without a second thoght.

My 2c: even if Classic colors are more than right, I still prefer the more paler Retro, but please don't ask me why... (^^,) it's just my personal taste, that's it!

About latest settings Vs older ones: despite the fact I have a perfect color vision and my monitor (actually, a 55' LED HDTV) is well calibrated, I was not able to spot any difference, even when zoomed in... maybe it's my old age, the late hour, don't know... (xx/) so, the only thing I can say is: go for what YOU do think it's better, because frankly in this instance I can't be of any help!

After all, I like all your SW color regrading, so I'm sure we, final users, will be more than happy with the final results! And, I'm happy you decided to do also an AVCHD version this time - did you think about a complete BD-25 (or BD-50) version with menus and chapters?

The Arrival [spoRv] BD-25 (Released)
Time

It's very hard and time consuming to transcribe dialogs to make subtitles... play, pause, write, go back, replay, pause, correct, fix the sync... wow... but it helped me to discover one thing: Zane Zaminsky should be an alien himself! Why? Because, when he was talking to Ilana, about the professor's seminar, he had a flashback of a speech part when he was out of the building since several second, forced to go away by a pair of guards... or, he's a superhero, or... simply, is an editing error! (^^,)

By the way, I'm around 25%, my hand is aching, so probably I'll stop soon and continue tomorrow...

About cover: I'm studing a completely different look for it, as I like to have something more original than the usual DVD and/or BD cover - or similar, like the posters... I'm pretty sure final result will be interesting!

The Audio Preservation Thread
Time

So my idea was not so wrong... just maybe changing title of the thread to "The Laserdisc (and other sources) Audio Preservation Thread" is not so wrong...

I suggest this because it will help to grab attention even from outside, as google (and the other search engines, also if used by the minority of internet users) shows the thread title in its search results, and if, for example, a non-OT user is interested in a laserdisc audio preservation, may find interesting the result from its title, click the link, and became a new OT member...

The Arrival [spoRv] BD-25 (Released)
Time

Of course NOT - just a foot note, nothing more!

UPDATES:

All the audio tracks are ready (even the commentary) EXCEPT the LD AC3... the second side capture has a glitch, so right now I'm capturing it again; hope to put it in sync in the next hour - IF virtualdub will decide to not lose sync or drop frames, of course... (><_) the German audio track doesn't exist in 5.1 AFAIK (until it's there in an HDTV broadcast, but I'm pretty sure it isn't...) so it will be a 2.0 track.

Subtitles: English, French and Spanish are in sync; I'm working to obtain the German ones (thanks to a friend in this very thread!); the Italian ones simply don't exist, even in the DVD! So, I'm forced to do it by myself, and it will take some time - not too much, indeed, but I have to listen to a dialog line, pause, write, play and so on... (´ `.)

Last of the Mohicans - Original Theatrical Cut - BD-50 *RELEASED*
Time

About BD-50 splitting file theory: as I wrote, don't know *if* could affect a BD-R, because I'm aware no printed BD-50 shows this behaviour; of course, a burned test BD is welcome.

Grain: today I did some tests for my Arrival project, and discovered that at 20mbps, grain is practically intact... just a thought, if you want to change your mind and *squeeze* it into a BD-25... (-^,)
