The crowd shot and the Sebulba shot are available in HD, thanks to the “Digital Movie Collection”.

They should be included in “The Podrace: Theatrical Edit”, right? Do you know if the deleted scenes are available in HD as well?

Some links that could be useful:

Upscaling laserdisc and/or DVB for the few missing shots is, until we have a 35mm scan, the only way to go - and the result is not bad at all - http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/195979 (don’t know if it’s possible to squeeze more details than this, from a laserdisc…)

Unless it has a complete list of all deleted and extended scenes from every source, official (BD, DVD, digital download), and not (trailers, fanedits, documentaries etc), I don’t think it will be so useful for the project… you are the guru, if I have a question I ask you, if you have a suggestion you post it here! 😉

UPDATES

  • New “Bail Organa” uploaded, links updated; feedbacks are welcome!
  • Added restored scenes to first post - all from EP1 DVD
  • Added also Rogue One to list of extended editions

Info: Playing with AOTC theatrical color grading
Time

Yep, I’m always playing with something new! 😄

Today is time to investigate Attack Of The Clones theatrical color grading; I resurrected the old Centropy SVCD for this purpose (baaad quality, but maybe the best theatrical version still available, until a proper 35mm scan will be done!)

Oh yes, it is really bad, with severe clipped whites, low resolution, cropped image and so on… but colors are “relatively” intact, somehow. A perfect match will, of course, have the same clipping problems, so for my test I used the HD luma, and tried to match only the chroma.

Result? In many scenes, the difference is negligible, or not very noticeable - this could mean that the HD retains the theatrical color there, untouched; but in other scenes, there is a lot of difference in the colors; the HD seems dull, where the theatrical colors “pop” up.

Top, regraded; bottom, untouched:

So, what’s the point? Is it the HD colors wrong? Is it the Centropy ones (which should reflect the theatrical) right? Who knows? What I know it that is just another fun experiment… and I must admit I like the regraded version a lot!

Motion tests gave overall good results, but still not perfect; to make a complete regrade a lot of work on sync is required, and the added scene could not be regraded, of course - but the colors there are quite close.

Thanks for the input! I’ve preferred to watch the whole DVD to see if there is something usable between bonus material, but I can live without it. 😉

Clones Revealed: watching it right now; interesting, but I’m afraid quite useless as it seems to not contain further deleted scenes; still, useful to spot differences between movie and other material, like trailers.

Sith Revealed: halted. But I think it’s not fundamental for the project.

Even if it’s an old version, I stick with it for a reason that I can’t remember now… 😄 but it works very well usually, so I’m a bit worry… the War of the Stars II is stuck at 70.5% since yesterday; the Clones Revealed is slowly downloading, while Sith Revealed is less than 1%… hope the night will move things a bit!

Meanwhile, I’m not sleeping - apart few hours during the night, usually… I’m testing the DeFade script, to squeeze out every frame from a given shot - thinking that a shot in a trailer could last only two or three seconds FADES included, this script could restore a great percentage of trailer shots!

Also, experimenting with chroma key seems to give good results. The thing which scares me most is the audio; apart deleted scenes with proper audio (that could be used “as is” or with little tweaking), there are some without audio, or with almost unusable one (the sandstorm scene comes to mind). For the brief shots (half to one or two seconds) I thought to “stretch” somehow the audio from both parts, to cover the gap.

Sandstorm scene is in need of big audio restore; I’m not an audio expert, so I don’t know if it’s possible to recover somehow the voices which are burden under tons of noise… someone thought to take dialogs from other films: good idea, difficult to put in act. I wonder if the radio drama contains this scene; if so, it will be great and easy to fix.

Honestly, it’s a kind of nightmare… in a good sense, in a way! 😄
Trying to find all those deleted scenes first, then trying to restore them at the best as can be possible, then figure out where to put them, to find out that there are better quality versions, there are brand new shots from inimaginable sources that can be used, and so on… it will take a looong time…

you probably know about it but i just rewatched star wars - deleted magic revisited by orange cow productions and it may have a lot of deleted and alternative shots you may be looking for, unsure if the quality of the video is up to standard though

Yes, I’m aware of that; about quality, there are a lot of difference between the added shots, depending on sources - not only from Deleted Magic, but from all of them. It will be impossible to get an overall perfect quality for all, but I’ll try to make my best (and not use the worst ones, that are luckily few).

Just finished to watch Adywan’s Star Wars Revisited, and there are a lot of small enhancements that I’d love to include; he made a great job, some changes are better than what ILM did when they made the SE!

I see now there are two, but can’t connect… oh, well, I’ll wait!

For the moment, I have watched “The War of the Stars”; overall, it’s a nice, fun edit; I like many things (the idea of R2 subs, the beer from Leia to Luke, to cite some); I do not agree about the choice of some music, dialogs, and few bad quality scenes, while I applaud the fact the author used some scenes from unusual sources - and I’d like to use them, too!

Thanks, benduwan, to have pointed me in the right direction, and to The Man Behind The Mask for the edit!

Now, waiting to download the others…

Have you looked at the HAL 9000 versions of the prequels? I have just started to watch them and the way he has integrated a few deleted scenes so far is really really impressive. You should took a look if you haven’t already! Specifically there is a scene at the begining with Padme in the Senate that I don’t see in your catalog.

I’ll take a look, thanks! Meanwhile, can you post a screenshot of that scene? I’m pretty sure it’s on DVD.

Rogue Zero - What was changed, reshot, etc in Rogue One?
Time

Don’t know if this could be of some pertinence here, but the Jedi statue (still to figure out if it was once standing and destroyed by Empire or time, or just a big desert rock shaped by someone) shot, just before Wobani, is flipped - according to two previous shots and trailer; of the previous shots (and trailer) are flipped. Or there are two statues - like LOTR, for example, but it seems unlikely to be the case.

And the fact that the final cut includes a shot of the flying ship’s shadow instead of the one of the statue, is behind my comprehension… 😕
