Well after the last episode it’s clear the best play is to make this Mandalorian 3. Maybe make the Boba flashbacks their own side movie.

Hello again, I don’t want to seem like I’m backseat editing or anything but I reckon we could get 2 movies from this.
The first could be a prologue, compiling and editing the flashbacks together. This could be THE boba fett film, doesent need to be a long one either. This probably would be fit for viewing between the 1st and 2nd Mando film.
The second could be the present plot from the BOBF. However, it is presented as a Mandolorian film (either Episode 3 or a spin off adventure). This could be done by weaving chapter 5 with a very condensed chapters 1-4 (followed by whatever happens next). This way, it would feel like Mandos isn’t stepping into Boba’s story, but the other way round.
Enjoying this season so far, but I feel that the apperance of Mando, and Boba’s story with the Tuskens are the highlight and the rest of the story is a bit bland.
Side note: If you keep alot of chapter 5 in, I beg for the line about dating jawas to be removed. I loath the fact that Jawas dating humans and being furry is now canon 😉
Wow, I totally agree with this. We don’t know how the story is gonna be developed in episodes 6 and 7, but for now, this approach makes too much sense for me.
This is currently how I’ve got it set up in my editing suite.
You could have the prologue be the post credit scene from MS2 and open straight with this episode and flash back to the present day segment after fennec shows up. Or you could continue straight with what happens in 6-7…
Either way, this makes for a less fluffy - more action packed story.
It certainly adds a huge amount of Mandalorian lore and ties up the main loose end from Mando S2. My tactic here will probably to edit it in reverse. Start with the (presumably) 2 episode finale, then weave together this episode and the present day story from Boba and then add in sufficient Boba flashback scenes to serve the story.
Wow. Today was totally not what I was expecting. Initial thoughts are that I interweave today’s episode with the present day story from the first 4 episodes, with them converging for the presumed 2 episode finale.

Since Mando 1 and 2 were really about Mando and the Grogu story - and though while Fett was introduced in that series - I’m not so sure these flashbacks about Fett in the new series should be ADDED to your previous 2 movies. Fett is a supporting character in those seasons - his past is not included for a reason…Sort of like growing up watching episodes 4,5,6…with episodes 1,2,3 released, I still refuse to recommend people watch the movies in true number order. Episode 4 loses effect when you already know who Vader is when he first appears, etc for 5 and 6…
So, watching the new series about Fett, I love the flashbacks as they are shown in stages relevant to the present story— if that makes sense. Questions are being answered about Fett in pieces at the right time and would not be beneficial being answered earlier in the previous season movies as then watching Fett’s season, you already know the past story.
sorry if folks disagree - I guess I’m a Pulp Fiction fan, too and though I still have friends that hate the time jumping, I know these items are mixed for the purpose of using the chapter storytelling format presented. I have watched the fanedit of Pulp presenting everything in order…and it’s just not the same…and lacks the suspense and depth you feel otherwise…

I was never intending to add a huge amount of this series into the Mando movies. I’m only going to insert scenes if they add to the Mando movies themselves.
So far the only thing I’m definitely adding is the scene where Boba approaches Fennec’s body because the scene from Gunslinger feels way too short.
It’ll be interesting to see if we get any further flashbacks as we’re almost up to Mando season 2 in terms of the timeline. I’d love to get a few flashback scenes of Boba tracking Mando. That would fit nicely into the second Mando movie.
The key to this edit might be reducing boba fett’s dialogue as it seems out of character for him to be as verbose as he is in the show. I just read an interview with Temuera Morrison who said himself that he didn’t think it was consistent with previous appearances and had asked Jon Favreau to cut his dialogue down

Yeah, the only good thing abut the speeder chase is that it can be cut completely without losing anything from the story. You can transition straight from the Hutt/Rancor scene to the Skyliner arriving.
My rough cut of the first 3 episodes is still only 53 mins with some brief flashbacks to be added, which shows just how little of these episodes progresses the story. Total time of the flashbacks is 71 mins, so there is still a chance there will be enough material to warrant a separate movie.
There’s certainly a lot that deserves to be cut! I might end up with a movie less than 2 hours long!
So, this series really isn’t what I was expecting. For the 2 episodes so far we have 25 mins of “present” and 65 mins of “flashback”.
Overall I’m really liking it, but some of the Tusken scenes like the Episode 1 creature battle and the train heist didn’t sit too well with me.
My current feeling is to keep this movie to just the “present” and add in some very brief flashback scenes. However, the Tusken story is clearly going to tie into the “present” story, and it’ll be a question of whether brief flashback scenes will be enough to keep that eventual payoff. Time will tell…

I think it might be a good idea to treat your fanedits like a Cinematic Universe, of which this is the third installment. If you plan on making movie edits of all these upcoming shows, they’re going to have about that level of interconnectedness.
That’s the plan. I’ll see how this season pans out before deciding on an overarching “Title”. I may just stick to The Mandalorian and have this as episode 3.
I wonder if there will be enough flashback material to make two films: Post-RotJ and Post-Mandalorian. A snippet of the relevant Return of the Jedi scenes could be used as a prologue to the first one.
Looks like we will be getting a lot of flashback material, however, rather than make a movie out of it I’ll probably scale it back as much as I can. My first cut has the opening logos, crawl and first episode at just 20 mins. I’ve cut a lot of the Tusken stuff but I have a feeling that some scenes will need to go back in.
I’m also hoping that the later flashback scenes involving Fennec can be cut into episodes 1 and 2 of the Mandalorian.

I know there’s been a lot of talks about all the Post-OT shows pulling a Marvel and all lining up for a big conclusion series that wraps all the story lines together.
Just a hypothetical idea for the future… Do you plan to combined all the series together into a series of movies in the future? You say that you will add some of the Book of Boba Fett flashbacks to the Mando movie edits, but what if we get flashback scenes of how Boba got to where he was when we see him in Season 2 of Mando? Or say we get scenes from the Ashoka series showing how she got to the planet we see her on in Mando season 2.
It’d be really cool if by the end of all these Post-OT series, you were able to do a series of movies with all the characters story lines running along side each other.
Obviously this whole idea is a long ways away and also depends on just how well the shows could mesh but it could be something really awesome if it worked out. Would love to hear your thoughts on this!
After each post ROTJ TV season I’ll return to the preceding movies and adjust them to produce a continuity. I did it with Mando 1 after the second season was released to put the Tatooine scenes back in. Once BOBF is finished I’ll go back to Mando 1 and Mando 2.

PROS
Technical details like scene transitions and audio edits are top notch. I didnt notice any audio errors from one episode to another. And for me the more wipe transitions the better. I enjoyed the opening crawl text, it was clear and set the stage.I was surprised at how far into episode 1 you cut but it still worked. This was a bold choice that paid off. I like the opening shot inside the cockpit where we dont see mando right from the start just a glimpse of his back. This worked well as a mysterious introduction to the character. The merginig of grief carga doing business with mando into one scene worked well without losing any information. I enjoyed looking for those kinds of edits while watching. Streamlining the first episode and cutting out others completely helped keep a logical flow of the movie so viewers wouldnt get whiplash jumping from one planet to the next. The mudhorn encounter is believable considering what you had to work with. Now that scene is followed by mando fixing his armor which is a small change but makes more sense. Moving Kuils montage of fixing IG-11 to the front of the film works so much better here. Originally it seemed like a random exposition scene but now it adds an interesting plot thread that pays off towards the end. Really good job on that. Thankfully arguably the worst scene in the series is gone: the dreaded scout trooper sequence in the last episode. Thank you for not making me watch that again. With that scene removed the pacing and transition between the last 2 episodes is silky smooth.
CONS
My only real complaint of this edit was the inclusion of the gunsligner episode. This was the only time I was taken out of the story as i realized i was going to have to watch one of my least favorite episodes in its entirety. I think this really added alot to the total runtime of the movie as well. I will say i understand why you chose to keep it. Its probably the right decision because there needed to be a passage of time from episode 3 to 7. And if your going to do future edits of shows to movies (i hope you do), Boba Fett finding Fennec Shand is probably important. Maybe if you cut it down a little more? To be fair I think this episode works better here than a standalone episode.I miss seeing more of Cara Dune (who is one of my faves:D) but i think her introduction worked. When your watching it u assume shes someone he knew from his travels and i dont think it seemed out of nowhere.

I honestly do not understand the tracking fobs in general, i dont think they make any sense and are just lazy storytelling. I would just take out any reference to them out completely. But that is neither here nor there i just felt like sharing.I dont like the “helmets” intro on disney plus. Watching it synced to the fox fanfare didnt feel right. i know its just an easter egg and has no consequence. I would have preferred the usual starwars logo to begin the crawl and maybe change the title to simply: The Mandalorian. I noticed there are only 3 ellipsis when the other starwars films have 4.
CONCLUSION
The superior way to watch season 1. Aside from the gunsligner episode dragging down the pacing, i thought this movie told the story better than separate episodes. I really enjoyed watching this edit and dissecting all your decisions. This edit proves sometimes less is more.

Originally I used the Sanctuary episode, but it needed to be changed to the Gunslinger to fit in with the wider Mandoverse. I agree its not a great episode, but I do love a trip to Tatooine! I’m hoping that we get a few flashback scenes in the Book of Boba Fett that I can add in to give it more weight.

Really enjoyed this. I could see the huge amount of work you put into the restructuring to make the narrative seamless, and I appreciated your moving of lines from cut content to keep their value in this movie. Excellent work.
Only nitpick would be the transitions- I didn’t feel like any were necessary, most notably that final iris wipe after Gideon’s darksaber reveal, which came fast after another transition.
I cut the Gideon scene from the first version for that very reason. However, it made sense to put it back in, having had to cut the Gideon survival reveal from episode 2. The only way to avoid the double transition is to have the Gideon scene be the final scene, but that isn’t how Star Wars movies end… they alway end with a feeling of hope, adventure or celebration.
Whistles patiently… sighs. Whenever you get a chance. I’d love to see the new version.

I noticed only one audio error during v2. There’s audio delays during the Armorer’s fight scene against the Stormtroppers. Other than that this was a very well done fan edit, and your v2 will be my go to for Season 1.

Again another smudger9 masterpiece. So I truly enjoyed his v1 as a stand alone but totally understand the need / want of v2 now that season 2 is out there. All that being said it’s just incredible. I’m to the point where I almost want to skip the episodic nature of season 3 and just wait on smudger9’s edit.

Just watched this, and I’m impressed. You managed to cut out a whole lot, and it flowed so well. Could certainly have been a blockbuster as-is. I had a great time, and am refreshed and ready for the new Boba Fett book coming out next month.
