What is this ebay?

I'm not sure what exactly went down, but I completly agree. I've been having similar issues on my own thread.

Yeah i saw that.  A damn shame really since i have been looking forward to your blade runner music collection.  One of my fave underrated sci fi movies.

Original Intent
Time

If we were going by original intent.  Lucas would have directed a Flash Gordon movie if given the rights.

Or a remake of the hidden fortress in a sci fi setting, lol.

Read the 1973 treatment and then the 1974 script its so vastly different from what we ended up with.

Anybody who believes the trilogy was planned as executed from day one is deluded beyond measure.

Other than having Vader, The empire and the rebels, han, luke and leia the sequel could have been about anything.

There are themes and concepts in embryo in the treatment and prototype scripts but entirely different as done in the films.

Some characters where split and divided into more than one and others were merged.

The one thing i can say about the rough draft script less kiddie then the finished 1977 film and the poltics are heavy handed like the prequels.

You have a sex scene or at least mentioned if not shown.  You have a emperor based on both Richard Nixon and Adolf Hitler called CoS Dashit.  You have a monarchy in which Leia the non sister in this version is the princess her father is a king.  But elected monarch. It is like Lucas wanted the fairy tale kingdom idea as well as democracy, lol.

The rough draft script is parts hidden fortress, yojimbo and sanjuro.  Parts Flash Gordon and John Carter of Mars, part Dune, lol.  Once you get to the third draft you have dialogue directly lifted from the hobbit and a theme not unlike lord of the rings.  Except that the Kiber Crystal could be used for good as well as for evil.  Unlike the ring which was wholly evil in origin.

James Bond 007 WARHEAD (* unfinished project *)
Time

Makes me wish Pierce did not age so fast and was still James Bond.  I hate Daniel Craig as bond.  Not because of his acting which is for the most part pretty good because he looks nothing like james bond more like a bond villain.

Die Another day will be the last bond i have in my permanent collection, if not for grudgingly owning martin campbell's casino royale as a separate continuity on dvd.  As for the last film it was so poorly reviewed and received and never even bothered watching it.  Why did not Campbell direct Quantum?

Hopefully the next fim will be good it is already in the pre scripting stage and they are looking for locations.

I only wish Pierce had been Bond ealier and for more films.  I wished they did at least 2 more.

He was the best bond by far since Connery.  I could care less what anymore thinks that is my own opinion.  He saved the franchise in Goldeneye when the previous actor almost ruined BOND.

I do like The Living Daylights however.  License to Kill is a dissapointingy flawed film.  Bond going rogue is a good concept the way in which it was executed was done poorly.  And the hammy and poor acting from the supporting casts villians is laughable, and i can't remember the Bond girl in that film for the life of me.  Whereas D'abo was hot in daylights.

I'm sure Dalton was dissapointed that he gave up on bond.  So much so he tried playing him again if only in referrence in looney tunes back in action.  I will always remember him not as Bond but  as the Bad actor who played a passable prince Baron in 1980's Flash Gordon.

I could care less if he was Broccolis heir apparent to the Bond Franchise.  You had the bad 70's and 80's bonds before bond returned to form in goldeneye.  The 90"s bond started out well. When the run ended in die another day in the 21st century it was obviously time for fresh start.  But i would have still gone the serious route they did.  But still kept the gadgets and Moneypenny and Q.  If i controlled the franchise i would have chosen a different actor. I would have chosen someone like Clive Owen who in hindsight might have been a poor choice. He has the look but he is not as good an actor as Daniel Craig.  Even if Owen has more star power in previous years.

Wookie Groomer's 1080p Star Wars Saga project (Released)
Time

I have a question.

How did wookie groomer get dts audio when their has never been a home video release or tv broadcast of star wars in dts?

I know the theatrical release of the special editions in 1997 had dts but when the 2004 dvd release came along Lucas who must have huge shares in dolby forgot to include it,lol.

I think it was six track dts also.  Though some claim Dolby Digital 5.1 EX with it lower sample rate sounds the same.

Plus their has never been a 5.1 DVD audio release of the soundtrack much less in dts.  I wonder if these options are wookie's home brew?

I would personally like at some point to see unaltered blu ray versions of the 2004 as broadcast preserved.  It is all well and good to color correct and remove greedo shooting first but neither of those was in the broadcast version.

I must say wookie groomer's release with all the bells and whistles in terms of audio does make adywan's look a bit barebones.

Not sure which looks better in terms of image quality.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

How many chances did they have to match if not surpass superman by Richard Donner?

4 tries and still no good superman films.

Superman II if finished by donner could have been a good film instead we got the laughably jokey Lester movie.

And don't even get me started on III Richard Pryor and more dumb jokes that don't belong in superman.  By the time you get to IV you get the worst piece of crap, bad acting ever.  Plus the worst special effects in a superman film from the people who brought us such classics as cyborg.

At Least Returns tried to return to the magic of the first film but failed miserably, unfortuntely even though reprising the thrilling John Williams superman march.  I found Routh to be likable enough if no Christopher Reeve.  Kate Bosworth on the other hand really was not all that likable, but i guess she was going for general bitchiness in Lois Lane.  This was a modern woman who could make it on her own and af far as she acted she did'nt need superman.

Singer was obviously going for a highly stylized retro look with super saturated colors.  Almost Exactly like the production paintings.  I'm not sure but it might have been Ryan Church who did the star wars prequels and recently star trek.

The original epic script by Mario Puzo on the first film that was originally going to be one movie and then was split into 2, in my opinion deserved an academy award.  Not sure if he won awards for working on the first 2 godfather scripts.

That the script Like Star Wars was so wholly original should have gotten it an award in my opinion.

Just Like i think Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire strikes back by Kasden should have won awards, or STAR TREK II by Nicholas Meyer.

Even Return of the Jedi on paper in some parts is a damn fine script, if not award worthy.

Even the script for episode 1 was pretty good on the first read through like a comic book other than Jar Jar's scenes.  II had weak moments and III when dealing with the human side to the story, but the action was always played up by Lucas very well if not laughably so far over the top there are no difference in subtlety and nuance there should different levels there to compare and contrast.  Its like a piece of music that is loud the whole time and plays a few discordant notes that are unsatisfying.

When the originals worked like a melodic symphonic space opera that engaged you as a person and involved you in the story.  In the new trilogy there was nothing there to relate to, imho.

Goodbye Prequels FOREVER
Time

I dislike prequels and reboots to know end.  Either they are good like Batman Begins and true to their source.

Or they are good action flicks like casino royale, star trek 2009 but not anything like them except superficially or in name only.

Then you have complete piles of shit like the prequels that are reboots and prequels at the same time despite what Lucas says.  He changed the universe and the characters and the origins.

Then you have decent films like Superman Returns that crap all over what they stood for Truth Justice and the American Way.  Becomes Truth, Justice and all that stuff. Superman becomes a stalker and a deabdeat dad, lol.

Gotta love modernism.  Next thing you know they will reboot superman and have him be gay.

Not that there is anything wrong with that i just would not pay 10 dollars to see it.

The "Highlander" Re-Boot
Time

But the sword duels and celtic myth feel are supposed to be a theme of Highlander.  Highlander with guns, lol.

That makes about much sense as Jason shooting people dead with a gun instead of goring them with a axe.

That is okay though not many franchises left i care about they cannot change or ruin.

I wonder how GI JOE is going to be, probably as bad as tranformers or bayformers.

The reboots for robocop and freddy kruger will be shit too i'm sure.

Next thing they redo conan the barbarian as well and have that sin city hack direct it.

Yeah, but I don't know of any dual-layered, dual-sided Blu-Ray discs, so 50GB is currently the limit.  I've never much seen the point in dual-sided discs other than space-saving - if you're gonna split it up anyway, why not just use two discs?  There's much less chance of damaging the disc, and dual-layered, dual-sided DVDs are notorious for fucking up all the time.

I'm more interested in these 16-layer 400GB discs that Pioneer is developing ...

I remember reading a while back about triple layer blu ray.  Evidently they never went along with it.  Replication problems?  Or because currents players could not play them?

As for holographic discs i wonder what movie needs to be a terrabyte or more in size, lol.

I have a couple dual sided DVD's that the reverse side won't play or has trouble reading.  And the manufacturer said there was nothing wrong with them, lol.

Oh, geez, really?!  Even in television they can't resist the urge to fuck with what they've already done?!  Can anybody in Lucasfilm not tinker with their work?!

Well its not exactly unrecedented for them to go back and reanimate scenes for dvd that were rushed.  It is done in anime dvd releases all the time.

When dealing with animated cgi it could be re-rendering or adding more elements explosions etc.  Make directors cuts of episodes that were shortened for time on dvd due to advertising or content.

Some of the earlier episodes and the movie could be entirely redone they were done in a lower quality than the rest of the season once the animators got their feet wet and figured things out.  The characters started out like clay or wooden in their movements, over time they have tried to make improvements.

Almost unheard of at lucasfilm these days.  They made the animation of a higher standard after complaints and tried to make the later scripts more solid, or truer to the spirit of the original films.  It is no secret filoni is a massive fan of the originals.  I bet you anything he would be just as happy to do an animated series featuring Luke, Han, and Leia.  But he must do what his boss wants.

I think they almost made the Genddy series movie like by taking out the mojority of the recaps.

I know because i have the second dvd release of the genddy series and a fan preservation and the fan one has the original opening and closing segments and previews for the next episodes.

I think I might have a lead to the lost sand storm sequence footage
Time

I know it by both terms.  But automated is correct.  Still my comment stands on what i was talking about, i was not be anal rententive on terms from the dictionary of making films if such a thing exists.

Still there is nothing automatic about it.  You have something sitting in a booth recording their lines just like you would for voiceover.

Back then in the days of analog recording you did not have a computer workstation and the ability to drop in dilaogue in a section of the film with the click of a mouse using a waveform editor.

Lucasfilm's own automated system original at sprocket systems was called soundroid, Spocket eventually became skywalker sound.   And additinally other aspects of sprocket systems became the THX program.

Time

The sandstorm sequence never was "lost".  It like all the other deleted scenes are rotting like the negatives of the original star wars trilogy in the Lucasfilm archive.  Even with the cold storage vault method, a lot of these scenes need repair and cleaning color correcting to allow them on a dvd release.

The proof the scene was never lost the half a second clip in the revenge of the jedi teaser.

Also evidence exists in the making of return of the jedi from ballantine.  The shot the scene and nothing was wrong with it, they excised it for pacing reasons. According to the producer howard kazanjian.

If it really was dumpstered someone should be fired at Lucasfilm.

Where was the scene shot, it had fake sand.  I would guess Elstree.

Other than the lightsbaber props and few pieces of the wardrobe of costumes Lucas pretty much held onto everything used in the making of the films except constructed sets.  He held onto every last stich of celluloid and every dialogue, and sound effects reel.  I know of only one item going missing and then being sold on auction by elstree an ADR recording session supervised by Lucas.  I think Featuring Mark Hamill and Anthony daniels doing additional dialogue replacement.

The original globe model that was the estalblishing shot of the death star as the falcon was drawn in by tractor beam did make its way out of the lucas peoples hands.  It was recovered from a dumpster.  Exchanged hands twice by collectors and thirdly bought by i think sansweet and is back in the lucas archives once again.

You know the story of the deleted scenes not being on the dvd for the movies we like the original star wars trilogy, original indiana jones trilogy.  Still sitting in the Lucasfilm archives.  Also Deleted scenes from willow, and thx 1138.  Instead we got the deleted scenes of the garbage prequels on dvd.  And the closest thing we got period for the originals was the CD-ROM and only because the showing of the reels at a convention by sansweet and included at his urging.  Done in a time of early digitizing of movies was not exactly up to speed so to speak.

I don't necessarily see how DVD singles are in any way screwing anybody over.  Maybe in the past, but most people are savvy enough now to realize that a boxset will be on the way.  As far as I see, singles are for budget-minded consumers who might prefer to get a few specific episodes without having to commit to an entire season.  Makes sense to me.  As long as you're not dumb enough to buy them (assuming you want the entire set) then what's the problem?

The problem is you want the boxset now and don't want to wait a frackin year for its release while they only give you ripoff prices on selected out of order episodes in the wrong aspect ratio with no bonus features.

Hardly surprising Lucasfilm has not given fans what they wanted since the thx laserdisc program days.

No restored original trilogy.  No star wars blu rays even of the 2004 set.  Nothing Lucas does surprises me any more.

Just wait for the indiana jones trilogy special editions on blu ray with all the new added cgi he will probably insert in a sneaky way like that 1 shot in raiders from the HD broadcast.  It would be awesome if the south park people where right about that.  Not for the movies being ruined but because the free hat episode would be even more relevent.

VADER:  You think you are being treated unfairly

Lando: NO.

VADER: Good.  It would be unfortunate to leave a permanent garrison here.

Vader later on:  Take the princess and the wookiee to my ship.

Lando: You said you would leave them here under my supervision

Vader:  I am altering the deal.  Pray i don't alter it any further.

STII is the best of them all.

Baaa-aaaa-aaaa!

No longer being said i'm affraid.  The consensus among the general viewers is that JJ's trek is the best picture out of all 11 films.  Trekkies are split on the issue.  Most will say they like khan the best and give JJ's film second banana. Real trekky canon types think jj abrams raped their childhoods.

Remember before thought general viewers though IV and VIII were the best before JJ's action romp hit the screens.  IV being the voyage home save the whales campaign political mouthpiece and VIII being the actioner first contact picard and crew versus the borg.  Interestingly enough all 3 involve time travel.

XI making the most money means its the best right?  LOL.

Nemesis and Final Frontier both being bombs the worst.

If financial sucess was the measure of things though that would make the star wars prequels and Indiana Jones IV better than the original films in those series.

Though JJ's Trek is not even in the top 100 highest grossing pictures of all time worldwide.  Even Wolverine made more money.  It did'nt make Indiana Jones IV level money much less Phantom Menace level money.

Star Trek is still not mainstream enough never will touch the appeal of even a star wars prequel sadly.

Still a closed geeky phenomenon.  That has made less money as the years rolled on.

The Harry Potter franchise, bond franchise and star wars franchise are worth a lot more.  Trek used to be a billion dollar franchise until the fans became a nonexistant entity beyond those types who dress up at the conventions and buy all the merchandise.  Regular People could not give 2 fucking shits over what they think was called star track.

If JJ's revival does not make trek accessable to the masses then consider trek dead again sometime within the next decade and probably for good this time.

In simple hollywood terms of greed the new film did middling business if not an outright flop. 300 million worldwide for a movie that cost half that to make, not including distribution costs and the costs of premieres and advertising.  In simple terms this film is a flop if the studios out there consdidered superman returns and war of the worlds to be flops.

Even i thought it would make at least 600 million dollars.  The kind of money i bet Paramount was hoping for.

If you were unaware he is supposed to be channeling the character of Ahab from Hermann Melville's Moby Dick.  Much like Patrick Stewart does in star trek first contact.

You know they are referencing actual literature in these films.  like William Shakepeare's plays. Dante's inferno, Paradise lost by milton.  hermann melvilles moby dick, a tale of two cities by dickens and so forth.

They wanted to echo the classical world literature of mans past but mostly the western tradition.

Well except for Films V, IV and I those are just stand alones.  You could say V references the christian bible but it does so in what would be considered a blasphemous and incorrect fashion.

Star Wars was not trying to be real literature as apposed to it being pulp fiction and make believe fairy tales grafted onto a superficial sci fi setting.  Greek myths and so forth being an inspiration, as well as the pulp fiction of doc smith and edgar rice burroughs.  And the jevenile comics of Alexander Gillespie Raymond.

See i love pulp fiction and space opera but i don't pretend it is serious science fiction.  Trek is science fiction lite but at least it is science fiction, or was until JJ Abrams got a hold of it and made it into TREKWARS.

Funny enough people claimed Meyer was copying star wars with the wrath of khan.  One critic even said he expected kirk and khan to get into a lightsaber duel.  IS that really when Trek started to become more space opera than science fiction?

Some Trekkies also say that is when Roddenberry Trek was canceled in favor of dumbed down action for the masses.  When the motion picture was more in line with cerebral roddenberry trek like the cage pilot.

Isaac Asimov was a consultant on the motion picture and so was nasa.  I think they no longer were trying to be science fiction anymore when they did the wrath of khan.

How would you have done ROTJ?
Time

I was never really a han solo fan as much as a luke fan.  I identified with Luke and not with solo.

Only recently in the last few years did i notice how bad han is in return of the jedi.  He basically stands around doing nothing but the supportive role the entire film.  When Empire elevated him to a higher status of a character.  But the trilogy was always meant to be Luke's story and the ending therefore makes sense that its luke centric.  After all the title says Return of the Jedi.  Not Return of the Rogue, or Return of the Smuggler, lol.

You either have to blame the screenwriter or Harrison Ford for not caring enough and hurting the film but walking through his role bored and just wanting to be done with the thing so much he asked for his character to be killed off.

I mean they could have just as easily had him die in carbonite and not use him in return of the jedi if ford wanted to play the i want to not do this film i'm a serious actor bullshit.

Originally he was not even on contract for empire strikes back and that is why he is not in the original sequel splinter of the minds eye.  Hamill and Fisher were signned to do the first 2 films.  i think hamill signed on early for all three.  Ford was the only holdout on film 2 and 3 respectively episodes V and VI.  When earlier on before he did star wars he would have been just as happy to be employed and working putting food on the table for his family.  DID he ever get it through his head Hamill was the star of the whole show and he was just a supporting role?

He finally was the star when he did Indiana Jones.  But even that was supposed to be the dude from Magnum PI originally. Until he could'nt get out of his contract.

Star Wars was the adventures of Luke Skywalker.  Not Han's story, not Leia's story, and most certainly not VADER's story.  The story of his growth from wide eyed farmboy to jedi knight.

Luke being a bit the persona of young Lucas himself and his dreams and aspirations.  His alter ego.  That is the way the story should be.

Unless nowadays darth vader is Lucas persona, lol.

I don't think William Shatner did that bad of a job directing the actors.

This is true, however Shatner should never be allowed to direct himself in anything ever again.  I can't remember which part it was precisely, but there was one moment during the film that made me laugh out loud because Shatner just overdid it so much.  I know he's never been known for being a great actor by any means, but most of the other directors throughout Trek's history have done a good job of keeping his overacting in check ... but that doesn't exactly work when he himself is the director.

I agree Trek V is just inexcusably bad.  Not as bad as Spock's Brain or Turnabout Intruder which were worth some laughs.  This film was just cringeworthy bad.  I agree with Ebert's review the script needed work.

Supposedly there was a strike that prevented a rewrite, lol.

The original series at its best was when it was written by sci fi authors like Theodore Sturgeon And Harlan Ellison.  Supplimented by fine trek scribes like Dorothy "D.C." Fontana and producer gene coon.

Roddenberry was an idea man and the creator but not that great of a writer, reminds me of a certain bearded man, lol.  that created something with wars in its title.

In my opinion despite its flaws the motion picture feels like the cerebral star trek i like.

I think it is the best of the original six films despite its slow pace.  It basically was trying to be another 2001.

Khan i find to be the second best even though it is universally seen as the best.  Then i would pick III next, IV after that and VI next.  With V being on the overall bottom unless that spot now belongs to JJ abrams star trek which i consider as a seperate continuity and a singular film with no sequels.

Though in terms of script and direction TREK II is heads above all the rest.  There are times when i seriously think II AND VI are the very best and the rest are garbage.

My favorite is of course known as the genesis trilogy Films II, III and IV.  That arc is the best imho.

I thought that was the whole point the prequels were for a different generation but had to ride the coatails of nostalgia to at least get the oot fans to bring their children to see the movies.

I mean come on guys everyone grew up and away from star wars being in their thrities or forties.  Trying to relive our childhoods and deny kids theirs is a bit extreme.

That does not excuse Lucas however from not making the new trilogy more all age friendly like the originals.

But he the fact he failed to recapture the magic of the original series will always leave fans the impression they have a right to condemn Lucas as a person and human being.

So the films sucked.  So we still have the original movies if albeit in 1993 laserdisc quality.  And that is the real issue fans hate the special editions and the prequels to no end.  Because Lucas buried and destroyed their beloved holy trilogy.  Said with a grain of salt and sarcasm a-plenty.

The shit quality of the gout does not allow me to recommend those dvd's to anyone much less purchase for my nephew who loves star wars.  I refuse to spend money on what a young kid would see as unwatchable quality after watching the restored 2004 set.  I call the gout the offcial Lucas bootleg because that is in fact what it is in terms of quality.

In a consumer based society you would think the originals being non restored and non anamorphic would prevent them from selling well.  You would think it would be a case of no restoration=no sale.  But not enough people have HDTV's or 16:9 televisions to warrant them wasting money on what Lucas considers to be inferior and surpassed rough drafts of the movies.  A new high definition scan would cost millions of dollars if done to the standard people want of frame by frame restoration in 4k, and 6k for the vistavision opticals. He never paid for the restoration of the 1997 versions supposedly fox spent 20 million dollars to restore them, and Lucas got back the rights to the original star wars and they in tern got the lucritive distribution rights to the prequel trilogy. And First Refusal on all new star wars films.  It in no wonder they turned down Clone Wars and Lucas took it to warners who screwed him over on THX 1138 in his own words.

The novel for "Star Trek V" does a much better job conveying the plot then the film, and is one of the few Trek novels I re-read every few years.

I don't think William Shatner did that bad of a job directing the actors. It was the lack of production value, and forced humor that hurt it much more. I would put the majority of blame on the producers, but Bennet did not truly want to do another Trek. William Shatner talked him into returning. That was a big error. You never want people who are not truly motvated involved on big project like that.

True.  Though Bennet wanted to return to direct the academy days script written by David loughery aka as "top gun in space" to fans who hated the idea.  It would have been the sixth star trek picture and therefore undiscovered country would have never been made and V would have been the last film as the original cast.  Other than Cameo roles for Shatner and Dee Kelley in the first one.  They would recast the roles with cheaper younger actors and put the older actors out to pasture after the bomb of a film V was.

It was even greenlit until they changed course and made the end of the cold war in outer space trek VI instead.

If you look at how old the actors are in VI there is a truth that Bennet realized TREK needed to be reborn.  But not done by the suits who are affraid of change and did'nt want to rock the boat.  Until the new head of productions greenlit JJ's movie they kept doing movies with old actors.  The only exception to the rule is Nimoy being in the new film and he did not really have to be i would have preferred a true reboot instead of the throwing a bone to trekkies by having Nimoy in it.

I would have preferred an entirely new breakthrough concept like the New Battlestar Galactica which saved its own franchise from and revived it from the grave.

Who wants to see geriatrics in films.  Aging action stars like Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, Stallone as rocky and rambo, willis as john MClaine, and Arnold as the terminator i find to be awfully cringeworthy playing these characters like they have not aged at all.  As laughable as a seventy year han solo in the star wars novels being the hero, lol.

Yeah it is kinda funny being concerned for fake rubber whales having to breath in a piece of make believe fiction.  LOL.

What would we do if those nonexistant fake whales died on our tv, oh the horror!.

I still think TREK V is the worst of the original series movies.  But not the worst of all the trek movies nemesis fits that bill.

I am probably the only one who likes final frontier better than JJ's movie simply because it has the original cast and enterprise in it.  No matter the laughable plot, bad acting and action scenes and the worst big screen special effects i have seen since Superman IV the quest for peace.

ILM's B or C crew effects don't hold up very well either and look budget grade.  The only film with satisfactory effects out of all six was the motion picture.  They cheaped out ever since then up until the new jj movie.  And the last time they had any jaw dropping visuals was in like 1 scene in first contact.

The only film to have star wars level effects or even surpass star wars in some ways was the motion picture done by Trumble and Dykstra.  With the aid of Lucasfilms old van nuys warehouse and the dystraflex camera at apogee.  A lot of people who moved to the new ILM headquarters worked on star trek 1.  in fact that production is all ilm in all but name and because trumbal was involved.  A lot of people remained behind to work for John at apogee and worked on the original battlestar galactica.

Almost all the trek scripts and as filmed are overgrown tv productions and not epic screen adventures.  The motion picture would be the last to do so until JJ made his own epic big screen take on the franchise, which some fans and critics have damned as being too much like an extended television episode of the original series on speed.

In one way star wars is ever so more superior than star trek it was always intended to be on the big screen and shot in the wide anamorphic aspect ratio of 2:35:1.  And composed visually and tonally as an epic space saga.  With sweeping visual flair Lucas borrowed from Akira Kurosawas samurai epics.  And World War II films and John Ford westerns. Which of course were composed chiefly in academy standard ration of 1:33:1.

The film Lucas style for star wars borrowed from besides his own films THX 1138 and American Graffiti was Kurosawa's first use of the anamorphic widescreen filmaking process the Hidden Fortress.

TREK began as a tv series and it should return to tv even with the start of pre production on a new sequel to TREK 2009.  Hopefully they will actually  call it something next time other than Star Trek to not confuse people.

I just hope warners does not issue a cease and desist order. like they did with the fanmade Superman II restored international cut once their own Donner cut was released.

How do you go about getting warners to release the longer tv version.  As far as i know the only reason they never released it on dvd was because this cut was not intended by Donner.

The salkinds created the cut.  I say just release it on dvd and be done with it even if they must use an A directed by Allen Smithee, lol.

I find the donner directors cut to be inferior to both the theatrical and the unauthorized by the director tv version.  The theatrical audio is so much more superior than the one with the new fake cooked up discrete 5.1 with new incorrect modern sound effects and design.  The 6 track mix shoud have been on the dvd as well as the 2.0 original 35mm mix restored.

According to Donner if i remember the vaulted elements were in such poor shape ato be deemed unusable.  But since then the music itself has been found in its original superior form and released on cd in a deluxe set even better than the rhino release from film score monthly.

So how much do you want to bet they found the original dialogue and effects reels too.  And they just don't want to spend the money on a restoration.  All the superman films should be available on blu ray in their theatrical forms and restored.  The donner cut of supes 1 with different color timing and soundtrack than the original hardly counts imho.  Nor does the Superman Returns picture which already has an excellent release supposedly in HD.

Superman itself should be restored from its original negative what we got on dvd was the old restoration from 2000-2001 now outdated and obsolete.  I want a new 4k scan of the 35mm process and a 6k scan of the vistavision plates on dvd and blu ray.  With both versions of the theatrical audio restored and mixed properly.

I doubt warners would pay for a Robert Harris level Godfather type restoration though.

I would not claim they are incapable on such a fine restoration though.  As their Adventures of Robin Hood restoration in glorious technicolor proves that to be in error.

A Lossless PCM stereo track on a blu ray release of the theatrical would allow people to finally get rid of their laserdisc copies.
