Questions about audio mixes

- 2.0 Stereo (1977, 1981 35mm Theatrical, early laserdiscs)

Also on rental videos before 1985. I have the first rental UK video from 83, it claims it's stereo but the sound is actually mono. (not the mono mix, but the stereo mix in mono)

The stereo mix was folded down supposedly to mono on the first issue rental betamax tape, but the vhs was in stereo.  I have also read that there was a vhs version that was rare that had the stereo folded down into mono, but have not been able to prove that claim, as i believe by this point in time most if not all vhs releases that were stereo were also mono compatible.

But both of these claims could be erroneous since there is a lot of wrong information on the internet, especially on wikipedia and imdb where anyone can post.

As far as i know the theatrical empire 35mm audio is only on the CAV full frame laserdisc of empire that did not have digital sound.

Jedi is the same in 93 as the 35mm cinema release in 1983 I believe, except they went back and removed the limiting.  Its strange on the empire sound effect missing though because i was reading an article with a guy who worked with burrt in 1993 and he claimed the only differences on empire and jedi was that there was no limiting applied, as in the went back to the master the tracks were derived from and used that as a base for the 1993.  Star Wars on the other hand had a fresh remix done in 93, and has seven mixes if you include the destroyed editions of 1997 and 2004 which i don't to me there are only 6, despite the changes the 1997 is authentic to the original three mixes, the 2004 is an abomination.  Which was not a deliberate creative decision the us dvd's were rushed, while the foreign 5.1 mixes don't have the swapped channels supposedly or the dialed down music at the end.

They could have been honest and done a recall like warners did for superman, or universal did for back to the future, i can remember back to when lucasfilm was on the cutting edge of technology and put out quality products.  These days they out out substandard dvd's years after the market was already there for them with bad colors, bad sound, bad updated cgi, and then release the originals in non anamorphic.

They were late to DVD and pretty much underperformed, not in terms of sales but the dvd's were lazily put together and rushed, when they did not need to be they had years between 1997 and 2004 to get it right.

Now they are dropping the ball on blu ray, the star wars trilogy on blu ray in any form is completely a non issue to lucasfilm when they can just reprint the same bad dvds from 2004 five times over and call it a day.

Just like the soundtrack releases for empire and jedi were completely unacceptable in 1997, but still no recall for fucked up quality control or a new release without the poor mixing, swap audio channels and worst of all the clean up they did on jedi completely ruined the soundtrack.  Dnr so harshly applied the dynamics are gone from the music, the sound quality ruined because lucas wanted a clean sound free of clicks and pops.

Sony just re-issued rcas non fixed releases twice instead of doing what fans of john's music deserved and going back and doing a newly transferred release from the elements available free of any problems.

Star Tours II: New Footage released
Time

Pod racers has to be the dumbest idea ever and the cgi looks worse than what i have seen on ps1 games.

Plus they are going to have boba fett in it and this is modern lucas so it will be shit.

That trailer is a failure if i ever saw one, who wants relive the horrible phantom menace?

I would just as soon pretend i never paid money to see that garbage, a 2 hour movie that is only worth the lightsaber duel.

What are they going to replace the annoying pewee herman droid with jar jar now, lol.

What we see in the official DVD's is what GL envisioned.

Vaderisnothayden already covered this, but yeah, you can't really say that is what Lucas "envisioned". That makes it sound like what we have now was somehow his plan all along, and clearly it wasn't. If he had had the whole thing planned out all along, you can bet things would have been much better thoughtout. Instead we end of with a lot of afterthoughts, convoluted plot points, and massive gaps in the plot. Honestly, I could have forgiven the prequels for a good deal of their awfulness if they actually possessed the ability to go along side the original trilogy to some extent. But it takes an awful lot of over thinking and self delusion to plaster over all the cracks in order to come up with a smooth enough surface to safely walk across without tripping. It is really hard to suspend your disbelief enough to make these fims work, for those that are able to, more power to you, but for some of us it is simply impossible.

To make the six films work as one story you have to convince yourself that Annie in the prequels is the same guy as Vader and Anakin in the OT, and that really takes some doing. I can't stand the six-film-saga myth. One big six part movie, my ass hole. Two different trilogies are that not believably in the same universe. And while Lucas did have prequels of some sort in mind when he made the OT, he most definitely did not design the OT to be seen after prequels -that's evident in their structure.

Well i can't watch the films in the 1-6 order either, you know anakin/vader is lukes father before empire removing any drama and ruining the reveal.  I can't stand that jango voice in empire and hayden in jedi, if i have to watch them at all i would watch 4-6 oot, then 1,2and 3 if i wanted to watch them as it is its only star wars 77, 1980 empire and 1983 jedi.

The last time i actually completely sat through episode 1 was in theaters, watching some scenes recently i was taken aback at how awful even Jakes acting is, when it never bothered me that much before and i wanted to throw something at the screen every time jar jar opened his mouth.  Just like when rewatching clones and sith i wanted to punch anakin, sneering motherfucker.

He has that face of a child who has been denied a cookie, seriously i wonder if that was georges acting advice for him, sneer like an asshole and whine like a spoiled rotten brat.

Star Wars as the story of Darth Vader, back in the 80s?
Time

He basically combined the father skywalker character vader betrayed and murdered quite literally in star wars 77 with Vader in empire strikes back.

The deleted scene with red leader for instance had him telling luke how he met his father and how he was a great pilot, when the scene was released the dialogue was removed.

I think the beginning of this epic and tragic story concept began in Lucas mind during the filming in return of the jedi, Vader became a much deeper and complex character when he was written as the heros father thats stuff right out of a greek tragedy.

When he chose that angle in empire it changed the whole course of the story.

Still i don't think he ever definitively came out and said darth vader was the hero of the whole saga.

Though he may have already been leaning towards it.

Before vader being the father star wars was a story of rescue and luke joining the rebels and revenge.  Luke would have gotten revenge on vader for his fathers murder and kenobis death.

Then Lucas later determined jedi don't seek revenge.  And now that vader was the father instead of killing him he sacrifices himself to save him, to redeem him.

As far as i know star wars was always the adventures of Luke Skywalker as the title was on all the original books, from the adventures of luke skywalker.  Luke Skywalker was the hero, he was the audience's avatar and passport into the world of star wars.  The alter ego of the audience. I don't know how anyone can identify with vader since his fall to the darkside makes zero logical sense in revenge of the sith.

How could anyone have sympathy for him, especially in the form of a Hayden  Skywalker.

There was an emotional response from the audience when anakin died in return of the jedi, because without his mask on he was this kind old man who was frail looking, and he died and some people cried.

I found even as a kid the heroic theme being played over his funeral pyre scene to be incredibly powerful, the force theme.   Then  as a redeemed anakin joins his friends yoda and kenobi, under the ewok music it was truly moving.  Although everyone now says they hate yub nub.

Not in the Cartoon he just seemed to Ham it up at the comic convention if you know what i mean, his voice is comic book like i don't know if that is a complaint or a compliment.

I don't know if he hams it up in the aa game since i don't have it yet, but i want to get it.

I have seen some of the cutscenes ripped onto youtube.  Probably taken down now.

The noir like batman tas series was awesome.

I actually liked masked of the phantasm but did not get the chance to see it in theaters.  The DVD leaves a lot to be desired.  Basically bare bones and the transfer is not the best either, i'm not even sure it is anamorphic.

I like the Marvel VS Capcom franchise better, but to each their own as they say, lol.

Actually the First Marvel VS Street Fighter arcade was my favorite, i kicked ass as RYU and Wolverine.

Reading a little back in this thread nintendo seal of quality, lol.

There were plenty of bad games on the nes as the good ones, back to the future was awful, so was ghostbusters.  A lot of games based on movies really did suck.

Batman Return of the Joker the videogame not related to the movie the nes game was one of the most incredibly annoying gaming experiences ever, that and the batman games based on the movies by Burton.  Incredibly hard.  The Joker game falling into pits all the time, platformer like megaman but not quite the same level of fun and playability.

There were other batman games i have played that were lame, i remember playing this one where i think it was based on batman forever and it was the worst batman game i have ever played.

I used to own the batman the movie 1989 gameboy game.  The only thing i can remember is the part where you punch jack into the acid and he becomes the joker.

Film Score Monthly's Expanded Edition of the Wrath of Khan score
Time

Came out in august i think. Restored from a three track mix i believe for those parts that were missing, Horner finally gets his due.

Film score monthly has been putting out some interested stuff that superman music boxset which had the best sound ever and was complete on the john williams stuff for the first time.

They also put out the exclusive THX 1138 score.

No word yet on whether or not horner's star trek III expanded score is being considered, i'm sure the sales of II will determine that.

I personally think all the theatrical films deserve complete scores included the alternates and unused cues, star trek the motion picture expanded is still incomplete.

I personally am more of a jerry goldmsith fan and would pay a good amount of money for complete scores to to the films he composed for.

Even the new score for the jj film is incomplete and the sound sounds clipped on the CD release it has almost no dynamics, which is sad because people had a better listening in the theaters.

Batman arkham asylum is supposed to be Mark Hamill's last hurrah as the Joker.  He won't do the voice any more at least that is he said he was retiring the voice.

Batman is voiced by the original actor from the animated series, the could not afford Bale and who cares really his voice was awful in the dark knight.  Conroys voice might be a bit cheesy at times, but at least its not Adam West. Yeah sure some fanboys would have loved Micheal Keaton as the voice, but whatever.

Our Fault, Not George's?
Time

Supposedly though even on the originals the dialogue was laughable, for told lucas "you can type this shit george, but you sure as hell can't say it"

Even Alec Guiness was strained to deliver his lines with authority, i think he said the dialogue was bad.

Ewan tries to sell the dialogue in revenge of the sith and almost succeeds, but hayden brings the whole performance down to rolling on the floor laughing, awfulness.

in his whiny emo pussyfied voice " You brought him hear to kill me. Liar"

"If Your not with me then your my enemy"

" Don't make me kill you"

"you underestimate my power"

Brings me back to episode II

" Its all obi wans fault he's holding me back!"

"I Killed them, not just the men but the woman and the children too, There like animals and i slaughtered them like animals.  I hate them!."

This wimpy whiny little bitch of a sociopath is supposed to be the badass charismatic, feared dark lord of the sith, and the father of the sagas greatest hero Luke Skywalker, wtf.

Then the excuse prequel fans use if well mark hamill was a bad actor too and he whined in a new hope and empire strikes back.

Since when is hayden a distingushed voice over artist?  Mr Hamill is one of the best voice over artists of his generation, his joker voice is fucking awesome and i love the batman animated series by bruce timm.

If hayden's so great how come they never did any radio dramas for the prequels, how come he did not voice anakin in the clone wars movie or the new cartoon.

He must have also been in two incredibly acted computer games, just like Mark Hamill was.

I am sure hayden was also asked like mr hamill to do voice work on the films of studio ghibli.

Hayden sucks, He does not even have the presence and honesty that mark conveyed in the role of luke.

I have Mark Hamills autograph, i would never ask Hayden for his.  I am quite serious.  Fans get Portmans and Ewans, and Sam Jacksons and Liam Neesons, they may even ask old george for one.  I have never heard of anyone wanting hayden's autograph, lol.

If a truthful honest Theatrical Documentary was Made on Lucas and his films

Not a kiss up piece or a bashing piece, but a true look at all his films and his life and body of work.

Something like Empire of Dreams without all its one sided ness, but not exactly like the people vs george either.

Something that would be inspiring, as much as reading the book skywalking in highschool for opened my mind to studying film.

Is the point some have made of Lucas having no collaboration on the prequels mostly a myth?
Time

Well yeah, but also he had a chance to make the films less commercially appealing since he was truly independent financially and fox was only the release company.

When he made the originals there was a certain mentality and when he made the first film he had to re-write it about four times til it was a marketable commodity.

He could have just shot a film that made no sense and was a wacky independent film like THX but he would have never worked in hollywood again.  But also he was able to do a lot more on star wars than he could have because of the sucess of american graffiti, he certainly did not get his shot at  making a big picture because he made thx 1138.

The original drafts were much more hard to make out. They were very serial, comic book in nature but also very full of politics not unlike his own idea of apocalypse now, with a bit of kurosawa samurai films thrown in.

The emperor in those scripts had a "wicked looking mustache" sounds like Hitler, even though lucas claims the conflict between the rebels and the empire was supposed to be the us versus the vietcong, and that the emporer was based on president nixon.

There was a lot more blood and killing in the original concepts, war was not laughably comical, he could have done a style like spielberg did later for saving private ryan.  The Tavoularis storyboards reflect some of that original violence that was toned down,as does the novel.

The sex scene that was an off color joke and not shown in one of the drafts between anakin starkiller and a rebel female aide, would never have been in a PG film.

The original concepts were also a lot more daring a 14 year old princess leia for instance lucas got rid of because of labor laws that would have been a pain in the ass, which they had already gone through on graffiti.  Just like Lucas had a much younger Marion Ravenwood in mind when the characters first met.

Icky Pedo connotations would have resulted from either of these if he had done them.

As a kid i appreciated the kiddy ness of star wars and its fairy tale story, but as an adult it is a lot less believable.  The only thing that still sells the films to me and makes them still work is the sincerity of the actors who play the roles, and that the person behind the camera believed in the secondary world they were creating and did not play it for laughs.  Nostalgia and fun also have to do with why i still love the films. Also the sheer vision of grandness the films speak of being larger than life, and the fact these these films are hand crafted works of art made by true craftsmen, not the work of a dude sitting behind a computer cgi render station.

I just wish someone made something like star wars for adults, but the idea is everything for adults has to be barren of any feeling, has to be cynical and have a heavy handed poetical message.

Star Wars with sex scenes and gritty violence would most likely get it banned or boycotted if it was even if it was rated R, and it would destroy the lucas who makes clean kiddy films.

Petition LucasArts against the release of the Force Unleashed Sith Edition!
Time

They just unvieled the trailer the other day for the hoth level.

I personally find this entire thing stupid this super villain type character who could have come out of a bad marvel or dc comic but not the real star wars universe as it once existed.

Seriously Starkiller was the proptotpe of both anakin and luke anakin starkiller, luke starkiller.

And now this character that never existed before the game force unleashed gets to kill obi wan kenobi and kill or capture luke skywalker, in pure infinities style, lame.

Force Unleashed sucked and was overhyped.  Probably the last in house lucasarts game too.

Now that  travelers tales, and bioware are making new games for them amongst other companies.

The Old Republic will be awesome for those who like mmo, but not for me.  I will get Mass Effect 2 in January of 2010, since they won't make a real Kotor III I'm out, I'm done with them Lucasharts guys.  i won't be getting lego indy 2 either its based on that bad fourth indiana jones film.

"Blue Water" Dragon Ball Z? (* unfinished project *)
Time

I thought to get a show aired in the us or to go into syndication it

A. has to be dubbed

and

B.  has to have a certain amount of episodes

Leading to why robotech exists,

and why harlock and queen millenia were combined i don't know if the rules has changed since then.

I do know Gurren Lagann only got a dub because the sci fi network picked the show up,  these days no tv deal equals no dub, usually.

Anime is mostly going sub only, basically glorified  fansubs but at the full price instead of for free.

It is only worth it if the subs are accurate and get the nuance of the original japanese.

Some shows with the official sub are a entirely different show because the meanings are better conveyed, man some of those fansubs get things all wrong or engrishy you wonder if they used babelfish to translate, lol.

Is the point some have made of Lucas having no collaboration on the prequels mostly a myth?
Time

I am exploring this by doing some research.  The evidence shows there was a shitload of collaboration from the whole basic crew that worked on young indy except for the writers, and some of the veterans of the old trilogy.

George asked for advice from his friends, he even begged at one point for ron howard to do episode 1, i think this was after jurassic park was released.  He tried to get Steven according to rumor to shoot episode II.

It is also rumored that Carrie Fisher helped him with the script on episode 1.

Obviously Jonathan Hales helped him write episode II.  And he was not somehow   out of touch if you see some of those bbc documentaries he still had a lot of contact to people like pals coppola and scorcese.

He had Steven visit him at the ranch during the making of episode 1.

Of course the biggest amount of collaboration was visually and through the art department, or sound recording department.  He also had a lot with the pre visualization whether as sketches, paintings or computer drawn.

Spielberg directed the mustafar pre viz, and other than a few tweaks by Lucas and differences in the live action plate as shot the final duel edit had his hand in it.

Like he would later compose the whole first go at crystal skull through directing the pre viz.

I don't have the star wars chronicles book for the prequels but i have seen the web documentaries, and read the making of books.  Lucas seems to have directed the whole process from an idea in his head to the films being released, but still had many many other people working for him to reach that goal.

The movies may sell the story short and be pretty laughably bad as star wars films, but it is unfair to the artists working on them to be blamed for this.  The cgi artists, the model makers, costume makers, painters, set builders all did there best work for Lucas.

I would say the visualizers pretty much got on the screen what lucas described to them, the visual sense of the prequels is strong imho, but lacks any heart behind this.  So they did there jobs admirably, the editors did a pretty crap job though.   The cinematography was weaker than on the originals but was not the worst part.  The careless directing, and poor scripts could not do the films any worse than they did.  The actors, the score, and everything else could not elevate that out of the cesspool of crap it was from the beginning.

The basic weakness of the prequels is there was no story, it was a backstory created to make the originals but the best parts had already been mined and salvaged, and basically the final films are as weak as the two or 3 paragraphs Lucas had to base them on,lol. That is if he even had any sort of outline at all, i don't believe he did it was all in his head.

Most of this backstory had changed during the making of the films especially empire strikes back and return of the jedi.  And those prototype scripts were so vastly different than the first star wars film, the journal of the whills basically tells you nothing about the finished product.

In essence since no outline exists for the prequels without proof the outline is right there in the final direction decided for the original three films, and their plots.

The father of Luke Skywalker was a very vague concept when star wars was made, only on empire strikes back did vader become the father.  Kenobi was always meant to train luke, they created yoda on empire strikes back as his replacement.  Leia in the first film was basically a fairy tale princess who could end up with luke or solo and was not luke's sister or darth vader's daughter.

The concept of the force was not all that well mapped out, the emperor did not even exist when the first film was made or was a very vague and shadowy concept even in empire strikes back, he was not really given form and flesh and a personality until return of the jedi.

The concept of the sith and the jedi was very sketchy, not well defined just like the force was mysterious.

There was no jedi council, no coruscant they did not exist at all in 1983.

"Blue Water" Dragon Ball Z? (* unfinished project *)
Time

Now if someone could just reconstruct the harmony gold dub with Wendee Lee as Bulma/ renamed Lena, lol.

Too bad i know of no one who actually has them on vhs tapes recorded off of tv, there is a place online that has a few audio clips but if the guy running the site has the tapes he is not sharing.

I mean of Dragon Ball of course, i don't care about Z.

I only like the manga and the old retro cartoon, the 90's stuff is complete and utter garbage as bad as pokemon or sailor moon, or power rangers seriously.  But thats my opinion.

Though i get quite sick of these shonen super power shows unless there is a point to it all, you have hundreds of episodes of the dragon ball shows and very little plot to speak of.

It is like watching an animated video game, when their is no humor involved, or any point to the action other than kicking someones ass, lol.

Though i hated the kiddie-ized verison of the old cartoon, and dbz and the manga i want it uncut or not at all.  Dragon Ball Kai is somewhat censored, cropped and has recolored missing episodes and animation and bad new cgi.  But will probably be the only one on blu ray considering the dragon boxes in 4:3 are probably the best you will ever get of the real thing.

They basically pulled a George Lucas, just like Oshii did with leaving the real ghost in the shell unremastered and putting out a bad recolored cgi piece of garbage.

It is interesting that fans feel as sense of ownership of the star wars mythos, in the same way star trek fans feel a sense of ownership over roddenberry's creation.

To Create something like creates a modern mythology and has that much of a social effect on society is absolutely phenomenal, and has a lasting effect.  Wars like Trek is not a passing fad, they both in their own way speak to people.

Obviously Lucas legally owns star wars 100% and could tell the fans to fuck off if he wanted, hell sometimes artists have to do that as much as they need outside input they also need to not have their vision muddied.

Some of the problems star wars has are due to pandering to some of the fans.  The whole Jango Fett/Boba Fett thing for instance, fans wanted to see mandalorians in the films.

Just like fans wanted a fourth Indiana Jones film then after the fact said they perfered it would have ended with three. Fans that initially wanted a 9 film star wars saga say they wish star wars had died in 1983 with what dignity it had left.

You can't please everyone at once.  Some fans love all six films equally even return of the jedi a much bashed film, as the fan bashing on that is almost as bad as the phantom menace.

lucas quote " I think it's the director's prerogative, not the studio's to go back and reinvent a movie."

I bolded and inderlined the important part.

See this is pretty much the proof that during the making of the special edition he set out to reboot the universe from scratch even without reshooting the original trilogy.

Star Wars 1977 did not need to be reinvented it was a masterpiece and a near perfect movie, the genius editing and score made do with what little budget lucas had at the time to tell a narrative that was free of cynicism and was a purely joyful experience to watch, and just a good amount of fun.

Why change a film that everyone loved for generations, well anybody but Lucas that is.

How nuts is it to make a film that changed cinema, brought back fun to the movies and think it is shit.  It is crazy to hate something that you yourself made that resonated with generations of the young and old.  Was star wars just a happy mistake for its fans and an unhappy moment in time for george?

He had every right to recompose his universe and characters, it was even somewhat interesting hearing how lucas was going to mold and shape all six films into a grand cohesive saga, the idea and the execution of said idea are different though because it was rendered poorly, his metaphor or story was confusingly put on film and video and made less sense than it did as an idea.

I have no problems as long as Lucas who claims he champions historical film preservation has the originals preserved for all time, as he said as an artifact of how it was but not how he wanted it.

I have always championed Lucas as a genius and stood up for him when people have claimed he was a dumb moron and hack, i still think he is a once in a generation genius like Thomas Eddison.

He has nothing to really be ashamed of he made his films on his own terms and he is happy with the finished product, great for him, bad for the fans.

I strongly disagree that i am at fault in any way for star wars being destroyed, Lucas did it and is still doing it.

Lucas made it personal when he crapped all over the originals then disavowed their existence, then releases a laserdisc master to dvd in 2006 which in no way in any way was acceptable.

I don't give a crap about the special editions and the prequels.  My dissatisfaction and bitterness as a fan comes from the originals not being given a restoration and DVD/Blu Ray release.

The prequels and special editions can rot for all i care, and i still love a lot of the EU a great deal when authors who can actually write compelling stories sometimes, unlike a certain bearded man in a flannel shirt.  Which is strange because the original trilogy was a great story.

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection on DVD (Released)
Time
captainsolo said:

I started a thread on the ajb007 forums about all the Ultimate Edition DVD problems. Most of the films just look overcleaned, but at least they seem like the films (unlike 04 SW). LALD looks like too much of the grain was removed. Goldeneye is cropped on all sides. OHMSS has had its opening completely recolored. AVTAK's opening is cropped. The big thing that bugs me is how the original soundtracks are missing on Thunderball, LALD, and TSWLM. I still feel that these new colors aren't as true as the old releases, but that may be because I grew up on the old tapes. My copies of OHMSS and LALD from the old special edition series seem to have much more life to them-although they are riddled with all the standard DVD issues.

Are the Criterion LDs really worth tracking down if you already have the commentaries?

For me they are having a laserdisc player, and i prefer the CAV format as my player does not have the ability to stop on a scene freeze frame on a clv disc.

If you have a player that can do that, or already have the commentaries the CLV re-issues without the commentaries are cheaper.  Or you could get the few films released by mgm/ua in CAV, thx and those old letterbox special editions unless you have the special edition dvds.

The thing is the criterion is from an old vaulted print, or video master and does not have dvnr applied, whereas the thx laserdisc program often did.

Most Bond fans are going over to blu ray, unless some of the major issues are addressed in such releases that plagued the U.E. count me out.  Its really only the first four bond films really that benefited the most from the new Lowry transfers, the roger moore years are off and on in terms of consistent quality, but some may have to do with the film stock used and the age of the materials used to print the new negatives that lowry scanned.  Unless they really did transfer directly from the camera oneg as they claimed to have done.

Original negative can mean a lot of things like what is used to strike release prints.  They almost never do that directly off the raw film ran through the camera that was photographed.  They have a master that has all the edits that were done during the comform process, and all the opticals spliced in.

Yeah cause you know 3-D will add dimensionality to Hayden's wooden acting, jar jar and the roger roger robots ever so much better, lol.

If its not 3-D versions of a restored original trilogy 1977-1983 count me out.

Though i thought the reshot imax opening of episode IV Muren Shot in 70mm for Ben Burtt's documentary was incredibly cool, and i also thought the imax cut of attack of the clones was better because it was shorter, lol.

I know i have bashed revenge of the sith, But no IMAX version was retarded.  The opening space battle would have been worth it.

Plus why no 70mm presentations for the three prequels, would have been possible if all three were shot on film.

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection on DVD (Released)
Time

Is that fixed disc, the first one did not have a menu. As for better audio and video i think he just did a second capture of the laserdisc, their would have been no point of going back and syncing the audio to the Lowry U.E. other than to make a custom dvd.

If he wanted to do that he could just have uploaded the ac3 streams online for people to use, or pcm but i don't think the extra bitrate wold help anything as the audio on the criterion is mono anyway.  Has pops and crackles as all audio of that era taken from an old vaulted print master.

Never mind i'm thinking of dr.no,  then as far as i know ff did not do a v2 of frwl.
