Pathetic Prequel dialogue quoted

I will start the thread off, you guys can add others if you like.

Episode III:

"only a sith deals in absolutes"- Obi wan Kenobi

"if your not with me then your my enemy"  Pre-suit Vader uttering a bushism though what bush actually said was " if your not with us, then your against us" Pretty Clever George, Bush must be a sith lord, lol.

" Don't try it Anakin i have the high ground"Kenobi

"You Underestimate my powerrrr!!!!!!!"  Vader as delivered by a wooden hammy Hayden Christensen, awful beyond words.

GOUT image stabilization - Released
Time

So is there frame weave and jitter in the gout, when i was watching star wars even during the roll up, it was all shaky.  Or is that a part of the 77 original because it had to be filmed that way?

Because i don't remember the shakyness in the definitive laserdisc opening that had the episode IV title.

The four eyed stormtroopers thing has always made me want to throw the dvd and the laserdisc in the trash, just kidding but i hate it.

I also hate the 93 soundmix and find it somewhat dishonest to claim this is the original theatrical version, if that was true the 35mm stereo, monaural and 70mm 6 track would be on the disc or any one of those 3.

I think it is also dishonest to say the non anamorphic transfer is the theatrical presentation since the films were shown in anamorphic widescreen and were shot that way, or that the limited resolution of a laserdisc master somehow resolves all the detail that was even on a print in bad shape like the gout star wars is.

Sorry for  taken your thread off topic, a bit of a rant with my question, lol.

clone wars season II
Time

Is anyone still fans of  star wars anyway i mean the film series was ruined and destroyed by George Lucas and now he is doing the same to the EU, and i mean the fans the films were originally made for and not the new kids who don't know the special editions and prequels are garbage.

The canon of projects such as the force unleashed and clone wars are clearly higher than EU because of lucas involvement but they have not stated them as G-canon, As for Karen Traviss quitting because lucash crapped all over her creation of an elaborate culture and mythology for the mandalorians i can't comment.

Though Zahn was pissed when they killed Mara Jade without telling him or even running it past him.  And traviss was the one who wanted that to happen, it was probably also her idea for Jacen to go all sith.

Her idea  to kill off Luke Skywalker was denied, they allowed killing Mara though when the universe has few strong female characters, i will always think they were morons for that.

Its kind of funny how reading the zahn novels in the early nineties made me want to see a sequel trilogy and prequels, i now know better. I wish the special editions and prequels never happened they buried the real star wars and kept it in non anamorphic form even to this day on DVD.

Now Traviss writes for the Halo EU,lol.  I guess it makes sense since her thing was writing either mandos or clone troopers.

I can't blame Mike Stackpole for leaving and not writing star wars anymore he left just when star wars started turning into shit.  I'm truly surprised everyone has not jumped ship now that the EU has been drawn into line with the Lucas canon, there is few creative incentives to work in that universe and write fiction except money.

Lucas owns all characters the authors write and can have them ruined whenever it so pleased him or the marketing department.  Who wants to write stories for the star warped universe that is not in line with the originals, but is a takeoff of those absolutely horrible prequels.

I mean you had posers pretending to be earlier versions of the characters.  Hayden is not a young version of anakin or vader consistent with the original trilogy, and even Ewan as kenobi was false as written thanks to lucas.  Even Luke and Leia's mom was made into a dumb person who does not even flinch when told of Anakin's murders.

Reminds me of a younger version of my self and placing such trust in one George Lucas.

Do you mean before you saw the Phantom Menace?

Because obviously Lucas had already done the star wars holiday special and Howard the Duck.

As for Steven Spielberg that man is not immune to making a turkey either, he made this big budget disaster called 1941 that almost made sure he would never direct another movie.

Lucas and Spielberg seem to have godlike powers these days and are invulnerable, they can make horribly crappy films and still get very rich doing so.  War of the Worlds and Crystal Skull were absolute shit and so were the star wars prequels.  Lucas can make anything Star Wars and Indiana Jones and make money on it it seems, well except for Young Indy that was an experiment that did not make lucas tons of money, and all the networks and fans thought it was a turkey despite showing some promise.

The one and only true canon was and still should be the oot, but Lucas himself did not follow the continuity or the canon when he created the special editions and prequels.  So anything the man says about canon i call bullshit since he did not even follow it himself.

He had to change the originals to fit his conception of the prequels which is retarded they should have been made to conform to what was already established.

Plus he adds EU stuff to the movies he did not create, but does not matter to me since the prequels and special editions are an alternate universe version like bizzaro world star wars, they too are EU or are infinities.  Just not the better EU.

That this newer star wars stuff does not jive with the originals tells me it is entirely false and not set in the canon star wars universe which existed up until a certain point in the 1990's when the dude decided to act as though he was making star wars for the first time in 1997 , its pure insanity.

The novelizations and the first two radio dramas were once G-canon.  You know that in the return of the jedi novelization Kenobi talks about being owen lars brother, which was canon until lucas decided it was not in 2002 but it had been canon from 1983 til 2002.  He just gets to change things when ever it suits him, the prequels have such big continuity holes with the originals it is not like swiss cheese, the hole is big enough to fly a death star through.

Star Wars - Poorly Directed?
Time

Well Robin Gurland is  no Fred Roos.  You know the guy who cast the andy griffith show, american graffiti and star wars. That guy knew talent, supposedly he discovered ron howard.  He also fought for harrison to be han solo in star wars when lucas wanted another actor.  Lucas felt the same way during pre production of raiders of the lost ark  he wanted that magnum pi person tom selleck.

To be fair to Robin Gurland she as far as i know casted the young indiana jones chronicles and the guest stars and casting on that were nothing short of amazing in my honest opinion. Sean Patrick flannery was a brilliant choice for a young indiana jones even though the show really was not really anything like the movie trilogy.

If you have seen Hayden's screen test he is better there than he was in the movies, which says to me that George Lucas cannot direct actors and Hayden is not the best talent out there.

I think that natalie was a big enough star that she was cast in episode 1 without testing.  The same can be said for Liam Neeson, Ewan Mcgregor and Samuel Jackson, and of course Christopher Lee in episodes II and III.

The casting was as far as i know Anakin in episode 1: Jake Lloyd gave the best screen test

And episode II Hayden.  Since we have not seen the other candidates screentests if they exist.  Though  Hayden was chosen because he could do that sullen James Dean thing lucas wanted supposedly.

Seriously what is hollywoods obsession with james dean type heros.  They did the same thing with that jj star trek and chris pine was obnoxious and annoying as James Kirk.

Hayden was looked at because George Lucas goddaughter Sophia Coppola said he was an amazing young actor, and who knows how much her influence had on him being casted.  If there is not a person alive who does not know who she is, she is Francis Ford Coppola's daughter, the legendary director of the GodFather.

The same person who everyone says ruined the Godfather 3,lol.   Okay so she may be a terrible actor, but what about as a director?  I thought Lost in Translation was decent but overrated.

CardCaptors Sakura: Restored Australian Cut? (* unfinished project *)
Time

The cardcaptors blu rays look absolutely stunning but are way too expesnive a boxset.

Can't remember the price but i remember it being like 500-600 us dollars after currency conversion.

I have seen some other stunning blu rays out there way out of my price range like the tecnhi muyo movies and ovas, though i can afford the akira blu ray now that the price on the us edition has dropped.

Other blus i have seen that are stunning are bubblegum crisis ova and riding bean ova.

The galaxy express movie boxset is an abomination though, looks upscaled and the dvnr is atrocious.

Have not seen the dragon ball kai blu rays yet since funi still has yet to bring them stateside.

I wonder did pokemon run out of steam, or will they release them on blu ray?  Not that i want them though i'm sure my nephew and nieces would like them, they just got their first blu ray player. My youngest niece would also like the old my little pony and care bares on blu ray, but i doubt that is happening anytime soon, lol.

Wanted: Anybody have the ac3 5.1 audio rips of the special edition laserdiscs from 1997?
Time

Also you forgot to mention the dts mix for goldeneye on the ue dvd is not the theatrical and is a new mix by dts digital.  The true mix is on laserdisc, damn them i say.

Also would not surprise me if the laserdisc with the ac3 5.1 dolby for goldeneye on the laser was better than either dvd version.

We don't know what will be on the blu ray if it ever is released, but since the last dvd release was messed up due to being incorrectly cropped on the source print or telecine whichever it was, they need to do a new scan.

Also the colors were wrong and there was too much grain removal and the picture was overly brightened, the color tones of the theatrical were a lot more muted like the special edition dvd.

I rented and did not buy the ultimate edition goldeneye it was another lowry botch job in the tradition of star wars just not as bad.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

Since i love rpg's games i am looking forward to the most are.

Final Fantasy XIII

Fable 3

Mass Effect 2.

Hey at least one of the those three i can play fairly soon coming next January is mass effect 2 and i can't fuckin wait.

Final Fantasy has been delayed so many times so it could be on both the 360 and ps3 that i almost don't care anymore, but fable 3 might be a year or more away but it has to be better than 2 which was a bit of a disappointment though tons of fun anyway. The final boss has to be the biggest joke in video game history however.

I think so but it is on one of the audio channels in mono most likely and analog.

Why it was not on the japan dvd i assumed it was.

The dub with Phil Hartman as jiji to me is preferable with kirsten dunst as kiki.

Which i also have the us laserdisc for and it is in ac3.  The dvd is at a lower bitrate i believe but i could be wrong.

Ponyo will be the first studio ghibli film released on blu ray but won't be the first HD presentation as i have seen the files online for howls in 1080i.

I have seen some of the footage from the concert blu ray of ghibli music and the footage of the earlier films looks upscaled but noticeably better than the dvd releases.

Well here now i brought the thread completely off topic, lol.

Laputa and Nausicaa look like they definitely need a restoration before blu ray though since even the japan dvd's were less than perfect.  They look the worst in those clips, especially nausicaa really shows it's age.

Not even being a studio ghibli film it is topcraft studios just like castle of cagliostro.

There were HD broadcasts of my neighbor totoro and spirited away and princess mononoke i believe but nobody seems to have preserved them with a recording.

The broadcast of howl's moving castle though was simply stunning like watching the actual animation cels and HD cgi files.

Yeah I got to attend the concert when it came here to my state. I have to tell you it was amazing! Getting to hear an entire orchestra playing all the great themes live. It was great and I can confirm that all episode I footage of Yoda is the new CG replacement. I also noticed that the Tantive looked more like Ady's than the DVD release. Hopefully that's a good sign.

That's what I was noticing image wise on the website. So EPI finally has the CG yoda-how was it?

I've got my fingers crossed!

George thinking of releasing a third cut of the phantom menace, will this man's tinkering ever stop.  Thankfully it is crapisode 1 the phantom plot movie and not any of the original trilogy films being further ruined.  Still i won't buy it when it is released. When is episode 1 3-D gonna happen cause we all need Jar Jar in 3-D,lol.

Adding a cgi yoda to episode 1 will not make the film any better, just to make it consistent with those 2 video games that came out after it,lol. Though george could always reshoot the film sequences in HD cam for episode 1 to make it worse because film is infinitely more preferable to HD video, just like models are to fake cgi spaceships.

I don't like them replacing yoda in episode 1 with a cgi graphic since it opens the doorway to allowing them to do the same to empire strikes back and return of the jedi.

Thank you very kindly Darth Editous.

Wish i had a player with an rf out for ac3 and a demodulator as i have a ton of discs i would like to capture myself.  I can only do 2 channel and not lossless either as my soundcard sucks.  I have to rip the digital files analog then transfer back to digital not exactly the best method, also i have that hum from 60 cycles and now have to purchase something to fix said issue.

I might eventually be able to buy a player or afford to have my player modified for ac3, but the demodulator thing is hard to find at a reasonable price.  Either that or an older receiver unit with it built in, both expensive.

There are 2 dts laserdiscs i would also like to purchase and capture the audio from Goldeneye and tommorrow never dies, have to search those how to do sites again, lol.

Also would like to capture the ac3 off of my star trek first contact laserdisc as it is the theatrical audio and not on any dvd's without being mixed for home theater presentations.

The other laserdiscs i have i want to capture are:

Tenchi muyo in love

tenchi muyo monatsu no eve,or duaghter of darkness

kiki's delivery service

nausicaa of the valley of wind

neon genesis evangelion the movies death and rebirth and end of evangelion laserdisc.

The studio ghibli gai ippi boxset laserdisc set

Princess mononoke laserdisc.

There are complete laserdiscs video and audio i want to capture too but i probably need to buy a new computer with a dual processor and a good capture card that does composite analog video.

Only for stuff that is not on dvd.  As the hassle is too much just to copy laserdisc that are same on dvd release.

Sweet the Third draft the one with the scene of luke telling Kenobi of knowing his diary of the clone wars.  The second one to feature the mystical kiber crystal.  The third draft kind of reminds me a bit of tolkien, can't explain why.

Has there ever been a complete fourth draft on the collectors market? The shooting script not the public version.

The one the jedi bendu site has is like all the others that have surfaced tons of scenes missing or cut, also missing the loose pages of rewritten dialog and scene updates.

I totally would dig reading a complete shooting script for star wars and revenge of the jedi.

The empire shooting script is believed to be the version out there written by Kasden which conforms to the novel and some scenes of dialog from the 70mm version of the movie.

I found the reading of the raiders shooting script to be quite fun seeing as Marion had the scenes Willie Scott later would get in doom like the mine cart sequence, but reacts completely differently.  I would have loved to have had a raiders part II then temple of doom, but that is my own preference, lol.

I think Child Rapists deserve nothing less than the death penalty.

This Polanski thing seems to me to be a case of statute of limitations thing.

I don't believe there should be a statute of limitations when it comes to rape or murder.

The whole system of law seems to protect the killers, rapists and perpetrators of these crimes instead of protecting the victim, we are always worried about the rights of the accused even if they are guilty as sin and caught red handed.

Actually the focus of star wars is the same it has always been, money.

Unless you were referring to it no longer being the adventures of luke skywalker replaced with a lie about it always being a six film darth vader story, lol.

George will never change my mind about anything, star wars is from the adventures of luke skywalker, he can try and say it is not i have the novel from 1976 and it does not say from the story of darth vader.

I find it incredibly annoying to have those bad prequel scenes in the same trailer with the other films, besides this is more special editions and prequels garbage and john williams is probably not the conductor.

The narrator says the greatest film saga of all time.  It was the greatest film saga up until 1997 and then 1999-2005 when lucas destroyed star wars.

Too bad my ticket sales contributed to its destruction had i known what i know now i would have boycotted the 1997 special edition and told all my friends and relatives that lucas was on a mission to ruin and bury the original films.  Meanwhile he was not content with just destroying star wars in 2008 he destroyed indiana jones.

The funny thing is based on the trailers of revenge of the sith and crystal skull and the positive critical buzz i was sold on these films and thought they would be good.  The previews were actually better than the movies i was sold a pig in a poke, not for the first time by lucas, but crystal skull would be the last time as five train wrecks of movies is quite enough. Man i always think to myself Lucas fans must be the biggest gluttons for punishment around, people keep ponying up the dough to eat up his latest table scraps and wash them down with a giant glass of fanboy kool aide, lol.

He is almost a character straight out of a western though, he has this almost cowboy hat thing, and chews on a piece of straw, almost expect him to utter "aw shucks" lol.

There is not one bit about him i find terrorizing he is as terrifying as a banker, lol.

Handles business quite like one.

As a kid i never found boba terrifying either only mysterious, though vader scared the shit out of me in a this dude should not be messed with sort of way.

Then that scary villain who oozes gravitas becomes an emo douche in the form of hayden christensen.

Either i have to keep both versions of vader separate in my mind or the character is ultimately ruined, a film icon ruined by one of the people responsible for his creation.  i won't say the one person responsible because ralph mcquarrie had as much as a hand in creating vader than anyone.

The clone wars and prequels treated the villains in such a laughable manner that they can't be taken seriously its like the villains in a warner bros toon.  Whether it is ian hamming it up as palpatine in episode III, grevious in episode III or the cartoon clone wars, ventress from clone wars, and dooku in the clone wars cartoon.   They are always treated in a childish manner and completely dumb.  You always have the villains escaping like cowards especially in the cartoon.

Are the US versions oar, the HD broadcast i watched from cartoon network looked cropped to me 1:78:1 and not the 2:35:1 of the sky HD broadcasts.  I really hate that.

Maybe i'm wrong as i don't have access to the original ts file i can't say, could have been re-encoded improperly.

The season 1 blu ray and dvd are not out yet.  But if the dvd is 1:78:1 i will be pissed, especially if the oar 2:35:1 is blu ray exclusive.  The dvd singles were 1:78:1 so there is a cause for worry.

It would not surprise me if the cropping was the fault of the cartoon network people or that both versions were considered correct as this is all rendered in cgi and not shot live action.

Another thing about the cartoon network besides the pesky commercials is the CN logo pasted on the video the whole time, makes the show worthless for archiving on your dvr.

Sadly they were not 2:35 to 1. Plus the audio has been messed up all week for Clone Wars. The dialog was way too low in the center channel.

Yeah i heard about that the surrounds being messed up or something hopefully this won't be on the master when it hits dvd when season 2 is released.  But knowing Lucasfilm they would call it a deliberate creative decision rather than a quality control fuck up.

Has the Sky HD version been airing yet?

Anyone UK star wars fans out there who can comment?

What can Be done to save the real original star wars trilogy from 1977-1983?
Time

Believe it or not howard was one of Amazon's most frequently requested titles for fans that signed up to know when they were available, also the bootleggers were already making a mint.  The film was successful enough as a cult hit overseas in europe to warrant an HD broadcast and uncut dvd.  The us release was a no brainer to maximize profits.  I wonder if all the video versions released since the theatrical bombed have yet to recoup the costs of the movie?

Yeah i am really unhappy with my pan and scan thx 1138 vhs tape, at this point i would have even settled for a non anamorphic laserdisc dump like the gout as a bonus feature.  I mean they included the student film in really bad quality, i have seen better copies out there.

American Graffiti is another of my favorites and i wish i could have an unaltered version not really truly theatrical just cgi fiddle free, i don't mind the added scenes that the studio intially took out.

I would also like to hear the original stereo and mono mix for the film, also i want the mono mix for THX both were Walter Murch, guy was brilliant as a sound designer, how different would star wars have been if he did the sounds instead of burrt?  He is also an underrated director and editor.

The focus should have been on the Jedi, or the sith.   That stuff interests me not no name cannon fodder like republic troopers and bounty hunters.

Interesting that a PT-hater like yourself would be so focuses on Jedi/Sith conflicts, as these were of extremely minimal importance in the OT. The "Sith" didn't even exist in the OT.

In the OT our focus was mainly on non-Jedi issues, except specifically Luke's journey. The villains were criminals and Imperial military. Most of the heroes were smugglers, poloticians, and shady businessmen.

You are quite wrong just because the word sith was never uttered in the original trilogy films does not mean it was not a part of the original george lucas canon.  Which included the novelizations, the one from 1976 ghostwritten by alan dean foster mentions vader as the dark lord of the sith.  Vader calls the emperor in the empire strikes back my master, and the emperor gets premonitions through the force, clearly when star wars was first written the emperor was not a sith lord but when lucas made empire and jedi he clearly was.  He has the black cloak and cowl, he does not need a lightsaber or a darth name like sidious to be a sith lord.

Now the other refence to sith may not be canon, but as early as the 1974 draft the sith are mentioned.  The jedi existed too only the name was longer jedi bendu of ashla.

And since Luke was training to be a jedi like his father, and star wars was from the adventures of luke skywalker i think jedi were of a large importance, the very scales of the conflict were decided by good or bad elites who were force users, the rest of the characters were clearly pawns.  Luke was able to destroy the death star because he had the force, without the force the rebels would have lost, and the empire would not have been kept together without the emperors presence.

It was never from the adventures of Han Solo also Mark Hamill was the star and ford was a co-star, whether or not he upstaged hamill is a different arguement.

Star Wars - The Force Unleashed Cut-Scenes Preservation (* unfinished project *)

The PS3 version has the best looking cutscenes as being on blu ray media they are not bit starved, at one point someone put them up on youtube but obviously a DVD or HD release would have been preferable.

I don't want to offend dayeytod but the wii version had notoriously awful graphics almost super Nintendo quality or gamecube, while the 360 and ps3 looked more cgi video like.  The nintendo version was only worthwhile owning for the duel mode exclusive, Now that the Ultimate Sith Edition is going to come out any other version will be considered obsolete xbox 360 and ps3 too.
