Help: looking for... Original Indiana Jones audio
Time

Is this on the laserdiscs?

The thx tapes are stereo, not sure if they are the theatrical just thx certified.

Raiders and Doom were released in pan and scan CAV full feature format on laserdisc, last crusade was clv. Not sure if the clv releases of raiders and doom are time compressed.  The ones i own are the clv letterbox releases.

From what i have heard the dvd 5.1 is derived from the 70mm mixes of the trilogy, the 35mm were not used on the dvd.

Some of the foreign dvd releases have those countries own 2.0 from what i remember but none of them have the english 2.0.

But Lucas botched dvd versions of graffiti and thx were also missing their monaural mix.  pretty bad for thx considering it was the brilliant sound design of walter murch.

Because of Lucas i will never be able to retire my Laserdisc player.  The idiocy of these not being on dvd in their real original versions is just simply astounding, as to the original star wars being non anamorphic and crap quality.  The original THX also exists as a non anamorphic video master on laserdisc, did not even get the bastardized treatment of a gout.

Those south park guys got the modern lucas and spielberg right on target in free hat and the china problem.

I will never pay to see another one of their movies again.  and they should never be allowed to direct again, ever.

Spielberg lost all sense he once had he thinks those bayformers films were great, and that that script that koepp wrote for crystal numbskull was great.

I have read the making of book.  They had 20 years worth of bad scripts for the fourth film, they should have left well enough alone.  Only 2 good indy films raiders and last crusade.  crusade is severely flawed, raiders is damn near perfect.  Doom is a turd, and skull is just worse than temple of doom.

How the hell do you make  film worse than temple of doom, or 1941.  I would like to ask spielberg. As much as i would like to ask lucas how you go about topping howard the duck and the star wars holiday special and episode 1.

Any other Yamato / Star Blazers fans here?

oh yes, there are.  ;)

We're off to outer space!
we're leaving Mother Earth!
to save the human race!
Our Star Blazers!
Searching for a distant star!
heading off to Iscandar!
leaving all we love behind!
who knows what dangers we'll find!
We must be strong and brave!
Our home we've got to save!
and if we don't in just one year,
Mother Earth will disappear!
Fighting with the Gamilons,
we won't stop until we've won!
Then we'll return and when we arrive,
the Earth will survive with
Our Star Blazers!

I must see both of this movies!

But I do have one question.   Is the ship in the new movie a new one?  I thought the Yamato got destroyed in Final Yamato?

It will be just like in the anime when they rebuilt the reckage of the Earth vessel into a space battlecruiser.  Instead this time rebuilt from the wreckage incased in a space iceberg left by  the aftermath of aquarious.  Sounds laughable i know, but this is science fiction.

Considering that the live action film is directed by the same person who did the first yamato animated feature it should be faithful, unlike that bad disney starblazers that got cancelled.

I just hope they don't go the JJ Abrams route.  The trailer did look a bit abrams trek like, so i not sure if thats bad or good.

Really don't need my childhood memories ruined again.  Like every other reimagining out there.

Thankfully George Lucas has nothing to do with this, JJ Abrams, Michael Bay etc.

Nishizaki went and did the animated film without Matsumoto who already tried to rebirth the franchise but was not allowed to use the iconic music, or ship so his ova series sucked.  Also Mr N. did yamato 2520 which went nowhere despite some nice symphonic music and designs by the guy who worked on blade runner.

The story is almost identical to what they had in the 90's with some minor changes.  But back then it was going to be 100% hand animated maybe they considered using a little cgi, don't know.  And the character designer was the person who worked on neon genesis evangelion and i liked those designs better than what ended up in the film.  Along with the yamato refit seemed a nod to the 1979 star trek enterprise refit, they even built a model of the new ship for the filiming.

But nish went to prison and lost the rights so we had to wait til 2004 before any rumblings of a rebirth film came to be heard.

The Disney Live action was bad on so many levels though the cgi would probably been great considering they were going to sink hundreds of millons of dollars into a trilogy, but only the first screenplay was ever written.  The USS Arizona, and huge ripoff of the star wars trilogy except set in our own universe. I only wish disney also lost all rights to the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs.  Their John Carter movie is going to suck and be a bad ripoff of Avatar.

Harrison is just jonesin for another big paycheck, and in denial with how horrible the film really was.  When he is the one who in the 90's dragged his feet over the alien story because as he rightly said aliens don't belong in indiana jones.

More Screen time for Shia Lebouf, no thanks i think i'll pass.  Unless someone give me a ticket to a free screening so i can look for the bad new scenes that top nuking the fridge.

Crystal Skull was good for one thing though without it we never would have gotten the term nuked the fridge.  It brought a great new term for fans to replace jumping the shark aka fonzi's dumb stunt on happy days. I have forgiven the producer of the show though because he never created anything like Jar Jar Binks, not even Mork From ork.

George and Steven thought they were being reel clever inserting a duck and cover like joke into the film.  They made the film into a self parody of the other 3 films.  It had more in common with a brendan frasier mummy movie, x-files or national treasure than it did indiana jones.

No religious artifacts, no occult, no archeology because that has nothing to do with aliens but the study of human cultures and history.  The old bad idea that aliens built the pyramids was torn to pieces by science a long time ago. Basing a movie on the very bad novel chariots of the gods has to be the stupidest idea next to george getting his ideas from l ron hubbard and scientology.

George for years has been removing any sense of spirituality from his films as well as trying to get rid of the guns.  That is why greedo shot first to make a point against the republicans and the nra.  Poltical correctness.  Also why he added midi chlorians to episode 1 instead of keeping the force quasi religious.  That is why he went with aliens instead of another artifact like exacalibur, or the lance of longinus.

Yeah... a made for TV movie fifteen years ago is the only thing that could possibly be said about an important and dramatic  event in US history.

You do realize that the reason this is perceived as being awful even before a minute of footage has been shown is because Lucas ruined both star wars and indiana jones, right?

First up, George is writing and producing “Red Tails,” about the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American pilots to fly in a combat squadron during World War II.

Hmm, I wonder if ol' George realized that the Tuskegee Airmen story has already been told in film, and pretty well I must add with Laurence Fishburne. i just hope he doesn't pollute that great story with his idiotic ideas.

The whole point in doing it is to have pointless and overblown cgi dogfights.  Emulating the dog fights of a new hope without there being any use of real models or any original thought.

More crazy than flying through the air in a nuked fridge, monkeys helping attack russians, or mayan temples transforming into alien saucer ships?

Or falling out of an airplane in a life raft and landing on the ground safely and go over a giant cliff, or a mine car as a roller coaster that jumps broken sections of track, or a monkey that speaks English, or a boat that doesn't sink while it's being torn to pieces by a giant screw, or a gargantuan bolder that rolls along tree roots, or an airplane that drives through a tunnel after after having it's wings torn off in flight, or riding the outside of a submarine for miles?

None of those things was done with bad pointless and annoying cgi and worked in the context of the indiana jones universe, unlike aliens and a nuked fridge. Also they were done long before lucas lost it and made the special editions of star wars and the prequels.

Crystal Skull was made by the star wars prequels, cgi loving, jar jar loving, lucas.

Plus they were based on the great movie serials of yesteryear and not bad 50's b movies made during the red scare.

Also were not made to insert Lucas and Spielberg new brand of liberal politics like lucas also did with episode 1, 2 and 3. For that the movies deserved to make ten cents.

Spielberg pretty much promised to be a check and balance on lucas and promised to do the movie like the last 3 then did not keep his word.  Based on that false advertisement alone he owes me 10.50 and 2 hours of my life i wasted back.

Based on how awful War of the Worlds was i should have listened to my own better judgement and stayed home.  Instead i contributed to an 800 million dollar turd.

I have seen Dicaprio maybe in one or two movies where he was not awful or annoying.  I think The Aviator, and Blood Diamond.

He was allright in Titanic i think star wars fans will never forgive the fact that titanic overthrew star wars, down to fans being willing to boycott episode 2 if dicaprio was cast as anakin.  But seriously would he have been worse than Hayden. He makes those films unwatchable.

Also i thought dicaprio was annoying but not awful in the very overrated Departed, whereas Jack Nicholson was over the top as usual, and Marky Mark was as bad as he has been in anything.

I just think of Luke and Mara Jade. If that works, so can anything else. I'm very tired of all the prequel "attachment/possession" nonsense.

I think of Anakin and Padme. If that can go bad so can anything else.

I'm very tired of this EU "Jedi can do any damn thing they want- marry, have kids, get a job, leave the order, rejoin the order, fight against the order, have a beer, murder a star system, go-to-the-Dark-Side-and-always-come-back-because-it's-no-big-deal" nonsense.

Jeez, the EU writers just want their audience to have some fun, unlike the way the audiences of the prequels had a lack of fun. I think the eu approach is more reasonable than the prequel vision of the jedi. Though they do bounce back and forth between the dark and light sides a bit too much.

I agree i wish the bad special editions and prequels did not hold sway over the entire EU like they do now.  When Zahn did his trilogy the canon was the oot, the novelizations and radio dramas.  I so much wish for those days again before lucas destroyed star wars.

To me i guess the downward spiral began with shadows of the empire, into the special editions and then episode 1.  Man star wars was dragged through the shit. To think it was once a good movies series, with good characters and stories.

Now it is just to sell action figures and other ancillary products.  I swear someday george will come out and admit he made the prequels so he could sell jar jar dolls/action figures, after all he says the kids love jar jar, and he said jar jar was the key to episode 1.

All though episode II and III went further to being lol rofl trainwrecks of unimaginable lengths.  I still can't watch them and imagine they got past the scripting phase.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

Damn bastards presold the Mass Effect 2 collectors edition before it was even released, they let people with credit cards buy multiple copies so they could resell them on ebay for hundreds of dollars.  Thanks for Nothing EA and the brick and mortar and online stores. Now i'll buy the regular edition and i won't rush out to get it either.

I beat the first mass effect with a near 100% completion rate after playing for 50 hours.  But you can probably beat it in 15 if you skip all the side quests and do the main only.  My friend says he knows someone who beat the 50 hours of the game from staying up for two days straight.

I said that dude reminds me of those world of warcraft nuts and probably needs prefessional help.  And i thought i was bad for playing it for 5 hours at a time.  When they recommend taking a break for a half hour every couple of hours to reduce eye strain.

My problem is i have to get my data off the 360 that went to my bros house to my 360, and i'll probably have to recreate my character and play through the whole of mass effect 1 again so yeah like a hundred hours or more to complete the 2 games.

Avatar passes Star Wars at the box office
Time

So are they calling Avatar the new star wars yet.  I hear cameron has sequels planned, possibly conceived as a trilogy like star wars and lord of the rings spectacles.  But JJ Abrams reportedly is doing that with the new star trek series as well a trilogy.

Modern trilogies often end with a bad third film.  Whether it is spider-man, star wars prequels, x-men, pirates trilogy, matrix, the exception i can think of is return of the king.

I want to see how Nolan's third Batman turns out if it ever gets made.  Bryan singer spoiled the perfect x-men trilogy from happening by doing that half baked superman returns.  And now he is overseeing the reboot of x-men to be casted with entirely new actors, count me as disinterested as possible after that horrendously awful wolverine film and x-3.

To me i prefer films over video usually but that is my choice.  Avatar is not a film its a HDcam Video movie 3D, or something or other.

Someone told me it does not make any difference anyway now that they use digital intermediates, digital color grading and digital editing and special effects and sets and locations.  Film is seen as kind of a waste, i disagree but i can see the trend.

That is why the prequels to me and indy 4 sucked, as did the matrix trilogy and sky captain, way too much cgi fakery.  I Love videogames but when i pay to see a movie or a film i want to see a film not a videogame, like those awful prequel sequels attack of the clones and revenge of the sith.

I have not seen Avatar but my bro did and said it was like being inside a  videogame world, thanks think i'll save my money thanks for nothing jim.  Whatever happened to cgi to augment like the abyss and t2 instead of being the whole thing?

Speaking of ratings...does anyone here with a DVR even watch shows live anymore?  Are ratings able to account for DVRs?

Not really they have admitted that illegal torrents and Tivo might have helped certain shows get cancelled, had they been looking at the dvr ratings such shows like Star Trek enterprise or firefly would not have been cancelled.

Cannot exactly remember where i read this, so don't ask for a source, its basically speculation that the Nielsen people have looked at the dvr issue.

It scares me that he says an idea that is crazy but great.  More crazy than flying through the air in a nuked fridge, monkeys helping attack russians, or mayan temples transforming into alien saucer ships?

Why would he want to do another Jones because its probably a bigger paycheck than his serious acting roles, like that new one with Brendan frasier forget what its called at the moment.

Seriously What was the last blockbuster he made that made him as much bank as crystal skull, last crusade was a moderate success and so were doom and raiders.  I would have to think the star wars trilogy was the last such time he was attached to a film series or movie making hundreds of millions of dollars like star wars 1977.

Scary to think Skull was his most successful film since 1977's star wars which was a very good film and crystal skull mediocre at best to absolute awful at worst on the level of plan 9 awful.

I don't know maybe people expected Conan to grow up a little and do a show in the Tonight show format rather than Late Nite with Conan O'brien at an earlier time.  Because that is basically what it was.

Conan's ratings sucked and leno's ratings sucked at the earlier time so they figured they could kill tow birds with one stone by moving conan back a bit later.

Me i always loved the wackiness of Conan at the later timeslot but never got to see him really on the tonight show since i almost exclusively find myself wanting to watch comedy later, primetime to me is full of lame comedy.

Also Conan really does not wear his Politics on his sleeve the way Leno does, i hate that and i am not even a republican conservative.
