Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Funny enough i will also buy clone wars season 2 on DVD.  Even though Lucas used it as a way to destroy all the stuff created in the EU.  Basically the clone wars is George Lucas canon and the EU is a separate universe, even if some of it is preferred like tim zahn's trilogy was better than the prequels.

I enjoyed TPM in the theater.  It's not a very good movie, but I enjoy watching it... it's fun.  The visuals in AOTC are fun to look at, but it's an even worse movie... I have a hard time sitting through it.  ROTS I saw once in the theater and haven't been able to sit through again, although I probably will one of these days.

I don't hate any of the prequels.  They aren't generally my cup of tea, but that's just personal preference.  BUT, as long as the OOT is unrestored, I will RESENT the prequels because they are being used as the excuse for many of the horrendous changes to the OT. And why on earth a truly classic movie should be so slaughtered to conform to a deeply inferior movie, is beyond me. My resentment will end when the OOT is given a decent restoration and release.

I agree that the special editions and prequels are one of the reasons i harp on how awful the prequels are, because all i got was the gout to remember three great legendary films by.  No theatrical re-release of restored prints.  that would have made an awesome 30th ann for star wars.

Going to the theaters is expensive and i have not seen more than perhaps 50 films in my life theatrically if even that.  I know there are rich people who see a movie or two a week. But i have seen most films on tv, home video like VHS or DVD.

But i do have clear recall of every film i have seen especially if they grabbed my interest and entertained me.

Or were so horribly bad that you simply cannot forget.

I started to wonder recently if Hayden is just an awful actor or if it was simply a case of bad scripts, poor direction, too much cgi, and they miscast him as Anakin.

What actor would have made an Anakin in his twenties or thirties believable and relevant to the character referenced in the oot?

I mean assuming you had a good script and a competent director.  Someone who knows to use CGI correctly in a means of telling a story and not in an end to itself.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Did someone say the problem was in the source material, like the raw material used to create the new mix.  Even if some of the sources were degraded that does not explain the poor mixing overall.

And why is a sound designer mixing the film?

The original star wars and special editions were not elusively mixed by Burtt.  The only case i can think of where he did his own mix was in 1985 and that was based on what was produced in collaboration with a bunch of other people. Oh and he supposedly mixed star wars in 1993 too but that was not a horrible mess.

It also does not explain how in 1997 they ended up using sources of higher fidelity closer to the original recorded material with fewer generations in the source.  Why would it just suddenly sound bad in 2004?

I can honestly say i am far more interested in jambe's star wars begins than star wars  unspecial edition 2004 on blu ray, and same with The People VS George i want on DVD.

I would like to see the deleted scenes, but since they are not going to be on DVD, along with a restored oot i will pass.  Still don't have a blu ray player or HDTV.  Even if i bought one tomorrow i probably would only rent the special features disc that is how bad i see the abomination of 2004.

Awesome. That makes some sense out of all the LDs and various audio mixes. The new mix sounds like a good idea if possible.

Thank you for doing this. I have wanted to do some of the Bonds myself, mainly this and TSWLM for some time.

What is this LD?

Is that the disc with the ac3?

I think it is.

No the 1997 US and japan set had 5.1 as well.  Stored the traditional way they are stored on a laserdisc you need an rf out and demodulator to access the ac3 audio.

The bitrate is much lower on a 5.1 Dolby laserdisc mix than an equivalent 2 channel PCM digital audio on the disc.  But the 5.1 is sort of like the bitrate on a DVD?

You would have to ask the resident know it alls not me.

But there was no dedicated stereo mix made for the 1997 film the 5.1 was just mixed down to stereo? Anyway the 5.1 sounds better.

James Cameron uses DVNR on Aliens Blu Ray transfer.
Time

I heard rumors of a new terminator release.  The second will have noise reduction applied and probably the gate weave issue fixed.

I really think the first edition will end up being preferable.  Like the Predator.

Terminator 2's second release had better color definition and not as dark but too much dvnr.  Never a perfect release.

It is even more pathetic when you realize a lot of the problems on the American release like too much dvnr were not there on overseas releases.

The japan release for instance looked better.  Not too sure about the euro release.

Below the letterboxing area under the picture and they are able to be masked out in software when making the anamorphic conversion?

All the japan releases have them even episode 1.

One reason no one has ever to bother transferring the pan and scan japan editions prior to the Japan Special collections which were released in analog only for star wars and empire, or the re-issues with digital sound.

Another reason might be because they are the same masters as the USA releases.  But that did not stop people from preserving the Japan Special Collection which is the same master as the USA special widescreen trilogy releases.

Only difference the japan release had subtitles burned in and the picture positioned in the higher portion of the screen not centered, like the miss framed pre THX USA release of Jedi.

Also the Japan releases were also in CAV format unlike the American release in CLV.

Prior to the special transfer done exclusively for european pal markets that moth3r did a transfer of all releases worldwide came from the same NTSC masters.  Even the PAL pan and scan releases in germany and the UK.

But then the worldwide release of the Gout  sets came from the same masters as well worldwide.  They did not bother to transfer over the PAL masters, people in PAL land were screwed.

There is no difference in quality in the Japan region 2 release of the gout, except it included for the first time as far as i know on home video the theatrical audio for the 1978 japan release of star wars.  But the picture is the same as the American Edition. Not restored, not anamorphic.
