Dooku has his own sith apprentice in Savage Oppress.
Time

So its free form kind of like The marvel comics.

I wish they would make a series like that, crazy and off the wall, but that was back when they did not care about canon. But they were hindered by Lucasfilm in a lot of their ideas.  And while some of it was good a lot of it was terrible.

They should do a star wars series of films that completely chucks continuity out the window, kind of like star trek 2009 but even more daring.

I would agree somewhat that they have more leeway in this series, but it still feels as if their is a general outline they are following and Lucas reigns in some of their more wild ideas.
The most wild idea which is really lame to me is darth maul's brother, supposedly a story idea Katie Lucas came up with.

I just hope they don't bring in jar jar's lost brother who can speak normal non broken English and who is intelligent.

How come nobody stopped George Lucas from creating the bad films he created?

A lot of expensive disasters that nobody liked were made post-77 and were very financially damaging. I'm still trying to figure out how they can blame Lucas and Spielberg for all those directors who were awesome in 1972 but got completely coked up and misguided by 1980.

That certainly explains the horrible film 1941, but somehow Blues Brothers became a classic.

I thought he already had ventress so much for the rule of two.  And if he had an apprentice why is he not mentioned in episode III.  It is as stupid as making Anakin a Jedi master with an apprentice in Ahsoka who is also not in episode III.

If the Clone Wars series is not merely EU and is G-canon why does Lucas insist on keep destroying his own canon.

So much for a grand vision he is clearly making it up as he goes.

But Savage Oppress was a part of his original vision, right because its not fanwankery because fanboys whined about the death of Darth Maul.

Well i agree with that they used the evil machine idea in that horrible movie stealth.  However the terminator franchise should have stopped at 2.  3 and 4 were crap.  And i consider not to be canon.

Sarah Connor Chronicles i consider a separate universe altogether.  Though i did like them.

I thought can they make a lamer movie than 3.  They did with 4, with batman as john connor.

A lot of the success of Terminator i place in the hands of the now dead Stan Winston.

Not that a Cameron directed 3 would not have been awful either, most likely worse than the 2 sequels we got.  See that bad 3-D movie he made for that theme park.

Do people like remakes and reboots here, or hate them ?
Time

Just wondering because i was thinking the other day about how Kurosawa films have been remade multiple times.

Yojimbo westernized as italian spaghetti western A fistful of Dollars, and also remade as the 1996 gangster bruce willlis film last man standing.

The Seven Samurai remade as the magnificent seven.

Sanshiro Sugata remade a bunch of times.

Hidden Fortress remade as The Last Princess.

An anime series loosely based on the Seven samurai called Samurai 7.

Another adaption of Seven Samurai is rumored by imdb fr 2011.  That cannot be right though, probably a year or two away.

Who could forget the remake that almost happened the star wars treatment and first draft as ripoffs of Hidden Fortress.

I guess it is fitting when Kurosawa himself claimed he was inspired by John Ford.  But none of Kurosawa films i have seen are really ripoffs of John Ford films as far as i can see except maybe by influence and composition behind the camera.

My problem is Anakin is not the good man Obi Wan spoke of.

Nor was he a good friend.

The character motivations make no sense in the story.  My whole opinion is Anakin turned to the Darkside because he was dumb and was tricked by a lie.  A lie so transparent only a complete simpleton would fall for it.

That lacks power as a story.  There is no hubris in trying to do the right thing and thinking the ends justify the means.  He is just duped and a moron.

A less than 2 dimensional character.  There is no human compassion or character in him in those movies to make Luke want to save in in jedi.

My biggest problem with these movies Lucas has a strong visual sense so he uses that to try and hide the fact that he cannot weave a consistent narrative that makes any sense or is powerful.  If this was supposed to be Dante's inferno, and Milton's paradise lost it was the worst version of those archetypes ever conceived on video and not film.

Lucas idea on these films was that if you shot enough footage and coverage you could create the story in post.  Why have a usable script when you can just do it all on the fly like he did in film school, cinema verite and all that.  He used those horrible scripts as a guideline to shoot the footage but the dialog was atrocious and he thought he could compose the performances in post also so he would combine multiple takes and so on, or film actors separately but then splice them into the same scene when the actors are talking to an empty greenscreen set which is claustrophobic and not conducive to a ensemble film.

Is there a way to edit the existing films to make Anakin played by Hayden Sympathetic and seduced slowly by evil.  Is it possible to make padme not an air-headed moron attracted to a psychopath ?

Can II and III deliver on the story we thought we would get in the sequels to the phantom menace ?

Lucas figured episode 1 had too much exposition so therefore lets make II and III more dense visually and add more action, does not give one time to focus on a salient story or breathe.

Question About The History of Originaltrilogy.com?
Time

This forum was basically forged as a movement against the evil empire and the members the Rebels.  Too bad unlike in star wars the rebellion is not going to win.  The Emperor  is far too powerful and influential and gets his own way always.

I mean the dreaded Grey Bearded Emperor who is more concerned with selling plastic toys than making good films.

Ian Mckellen and others signed for The Hobbit movies.
Time

Actually at lot of the Hobbit retcons were done by Tolkien himself in Lord of the Rings, and the later drafts of the Silmarillion to tie all three works together.

The Hobbit can be read as a standalone or as a prequel to the lord of the rings.

The white council in Lord of the Rings mentioned happens in the hobbit timeline.  It is when Sauron spirit came back in Mirkwood, and Saruman was there at the white council being false because he knew the one ring was not destroyed and desired to be its master.

The necromancer was original just put in the story to get Gandalf to leave the company, after Lord of the Rings was published a much more sinister evil lingers in that name because he and Sauron are one and the same.

Also by rewriting riddles in the dark Tolkien made the ring a more sinister device because blibo's original story as published in the first edition of the ring being a present from Gollum for winning the riddle contest a lie.  Too similar to Gollums birthday present story.

I thought it was great when Deltoro was going to do it because he was going to limit the use of CGI and stay faithful to the book.

Post count alone should never be a measure of rank or respect or whathaveyou, IMO.

Hear, hear. Ditto for length of membership. As I've said elsewhere, it's actual behavior that's important on the internet. Not postcount, RL circumstances, having "quite an online presence," etc.

One exception: If you half-complete several projects before deleting them all, and delete your own account, then come back under a new account and just beg for it to be deleted too, and all the hate against you is members-club driven...

What is worse JediTray deleting whole posts and threads or Lucas deleting the oot from existence and trying to rewrite cinematic history.  I would say Lucas is far worse.

I'm with Frink, Baron, Tobacco, and Bingo -  title was too low brow for a serious discussion, or even a ranting\venting post. Want to be taken seriously (and as a board, we do), then the angry guy on the internet posting needs to be toned down.

Besides -  the "Lucas has completely destroyed the future of cinema as we know it" threads are best left to a professional.....

Peter Biskind in Easy Riders, Raging bulls accuses Lucas and Spielberg of just that destroying the future of cinema by making it about the blockbuster and special effects and not cinema but really just crap kiddie fare.

And he got Marcia Lucas to agree with him.

Along with Kurtz recent comments of Lucas becoming a toys salesmen, i would say that unless taken with a grain of salt those are pretty damning.

Especially since the last good films Lucas worked on he did not direct, minus of course Crystal Skull a pure  turkey the other films were directed by Spielberg and Kershner.

I bet the ANH audio will still be messed up? How is ANH's audio on Spike TV?

Unless they broadcast it in 5.1 i think it is probably the 2.0 mix for the standard def broadcast, as for the HD i don't know since i never saw them.

Note the 2.0 mix on the DVD and broadcast was a 2.0 presentation of the 5.1 so all the flaws are still quite in evidence.  They did not use the 1997 5.1 or 2.0.

The japanese blu ray of terminator 2 was fantastic no bad dvnr as far as the reviewers have stated.

And it is region A so if you live in the USA and can afford it if it is not out of print, than its well worth the buy.

Terminator 1 looks better now than if they use too much dvnr as people want on a new transfer.

If they did the light touch like Aliens i would not mind, but the predator reissue was an abomination.

I hate people who like the video look and dvnr, they complained about King Kong and Clash of the Titans for having film grain.

I remember seeing Terminator 2 in theaters and the image was soft like back to the future or lord of the rings, all films shot on super 35.

I always figured that other than trying to actually get the star wars trilogy released on DVD this site existed to try and fight the good fight.  Which is ultimately futile in trying to stop Lucas from destroying star wars, and erasing our cultural film history by burying the oot.

What we got were worthless drink coasters in 2004, and in 2006 just slightly better than bootleg quality non anamorphic laserdisc video masters ported to DVD.  So we have the gout in unwacthable quality, and the 2004 in good video quality but with bad cgi and messed up sound and colors.

Thanks to Lucas i have a nice set of 9 drink coasters that are DVD's.

I've never seen the short version.  What was cut?

I think he is talking about the American theatrical cut.  That was censored in the USA.  The french premiere cut is uncut.

I'm not sure but i think the DVD in the USA is now uncut and unrated, but the original USA version was an R.

I was impressed by her performances in beautiful girls and the professional.  But mars attacks and those prequels are horrendous.

Seems like in sci-fi and fantasy genre films which are the films i watch she is horrible.  That is why i though maybe if she is good in Thor, i might be proven wrong.  But most of her adult roles have been dreadful or chick flick crap i won't watch.

I thought the cgi backgrounds in Kingdom of the Crystal skull jungle scene look fake and awful, i guess they deserve credit for them being less awful than that fake background in attack of the clones.

At least in crystal skull the plates were shot on location by a photographer and then cgi in.

In Attack of the Clones that whole scene is faked in front of a green screen, no real sand or location. Lucash obviously did not want to shoot backgrounds in Tunisia.

They also signed i believe Kate Blanchett, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood.

Not sure about Christopher Lee or Hugo weaving, but i do know that Orlando bloom is a holdout but they are hopeful they can convince him to sign.

This along with Jackson as writer and director and producer of Both films, They have Howard Shore back for the music.  Which will undoubtedly be done at abbey road studios with the London philharmonic.

They only snag i see, no confirmation of Andrew Laszlo as cinematographer, and they are shooting on red digital 3-D instead of super 35.
