This is hilarious given the bigger issues with the movie. It's a darn good thing we didn't have internet in 1983, with all that Slave Leia business. ;)

Uhura She was only in the last film as eye candy and a Spock love interest.

Not very progressive but they are selling a commercialized product not a Religion or political movement.

How about how Militarized star trek is in the last 2 films?  Not a peep about that.

Space revenge with lots of explosions.  Exploring the human condition, and strange new  worlds what is that oh right star trek.  This surely is not my father's star trek.

Its funny seeing the whole reason the series de-evolved to this is wrath of khan and that dealt with death, age and loss in a much more intelligent way.  A bit of all types of classic literature thrown in for good measure.

Khan's success made the lazy people in the  franchise try to recreate that same movie over and over again.

It was scratched so they matted those effected areas off during projection or so i read.

Or more clearly and properly stated they masked those areas of the image off.

The theater owned also said there was wear and tear and some color fade.

I always thought IB did not fade but i guess i was wrong.

Star Wars prequels were mapped out in 1981, only nothing like the way they turned out
Time

This thread turned from i hate the prequels to i hate return of the jedi really fast.  And i pretty much could see it coming.

I wonder if Rinzler's book will even shed some light on how much of the film is Marquand and How much is Lucas.  How much second unit directing did Lucas really do did he really  direct the picture as people have long accused etc.

When Jedi made more money than Empire did Lucas feel vindicated?  When it found a larger audience of children who hated Empire because it was slow plodding and boring and too adult did he feel like he had his finger on the pulse of his audience and understood them better than Kershner?

I like Jedi but i also realize  if a picture makes more money does not necessarily mean it is critically a better film.  Is so the Bayformers trilogy and the star wars prequels are some of the best films ever made alongside Kingdom of the crystal skull.

<strong>STAR WARS: REBELS</strong> (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

If it was set during or after the oot i would be interested but not in-between episodes 3 and Star Wars the same era of the unmade live action tv series.

I would only really be interested if they had the big three involved via voice over, or if they could not get Fisher and Ford at least Hamill like the first 2 radio dramas.

Like if the fleshed out the years after return of the Jedi which build up to episode VII.  And age would not be an obstacle as this is animation Luke could have his further adventures.

Honestly would prefer if it has to be prequel centric to finish off Ahsokas story and Anakins before revenge of the sith instead of cancelling one show unfinished to start another.  The beginning of the rebelllion is now boring as its already been done and more than once to have conflicting continuity.  To see Vader hunt down and destroy the jedi during the purge is also redundant and boring since this plot line was ruined in revenge of the sith.

My wish would be if a prequel to star wars 1977 has to be done as animation pretend the prequels did not happen.

Forgot about that line i actually laughed out loud in the theater when Kirk said it.  "Spock you threw me under the Bus!"

I also thought Scotty in the bar on his cel phone was funny, though extremely juvenile.  James Tiberius perfect hair.LOL.

The movie also made me feel like i was watching a videogame without actually being able to control it.  I felt the same about the last movie but this time even more so.

I guess the film is for the new generation its not aimed at me i am too old to get star trek for the 2 second attention span generation.

Robocop playing W Bush was really over the top who came up with that idea, lol.

Farscape, The plot holds up surprisingly well just not the CGI man it looks dated.

Firefly came later and that looks great in HD except for the low budget effects.  Wow they look horrible.

The movie  Serenity i know its stupid like Zombies in space but i thought it was surprisingly good characterization and directing.  Became one of my favorite films.

As for star trek when is Deep Space Nine being remastered ?

Last movie seen
Time

I saw Trek 2013 and wanted to note that the standard DLP looked and sounded like crap in comparison to the Imax 3D which had stunning detail and better sound.

Could be because Imax has their techs go in and set things up and the Loews AMC people have no clue what they are doing.  Sound way too loud etc.

The standard DLP was said to be in 4k and i have seen more impressive blu rays because it looked like DVNR'ed to death video.  NO real detail or sharpness to the image and no film grain.  They made a big deal about it being Sony 4k, either it was an upscale or Sony 4k sucks.

The film deserves 2 to 2 and a half stars as an action film.  Story wise if i took points off for not being an original story, there would be negative stars.

I really liked the new warp drive effect with the plasma trail.  Not my fave one but its up there.  The music however was good but not enough original stuff too much reprise from the 2009 film.  Maybe i was just expecting to be blown away like i was with James Horner's Star Trek II music, which was just as good if not better than Jerry Goldsmith's Music for star trek the motion picture.

Star Trek Into Darkness Full Spoiler Discussion
Time

Its obvious the audience for this never saw star trek II or would know its a ripoff film.

They also never saw Generations where Kirk died.  They seem to think that is an original concept as well.

The original series was substantively better but was not action paced and full of explosions and cgi.  Even Khan was better he was not shooting the place up or punching people in fast motion but was a powerful character because of Montalban's presence.  He was badass without having to take down 20 Klingons by himself.

The films subtext seemed to boil down to Starfleet is the USA, Marcus is W Bush.  Trying to start a war with the Kilngons based on lies equals Bush and Iraq.

The Nero event equals 911.

Getting Khan with the twist he is captured but not killed is getting Bin Ladin.

The torpedoes meant for Kronos were obviously supposed to be an allegory for long range unmanned drone strikes into  other sovereign nations.  To get terrorists.

It is against every rule of law in Starfleet and the Federation.

Kirks speech at the end of our values not being undermined is almost the same as what Obama said the US did after 911 now on what Republicans called his apology tour.

Or he could be quoting Picard from the drumhead episode of TNG as well, don't know.

Khan goes nuts and crashes the Vengeance only because he believes his people were in the exploded torpedoes.  Maybe he would have not crashed it had he known, or maybe he would have anyways.  But they could have him surrender because they had his people.  That is leverage they don't use.  Leverage that worked for Admiral Marcus at least at first.

Kirk is also a dumb jarhead easily manipulated because the script requires him to be.   Really hated that the original series Kirk may have been impulsive and willing to violate the prime directive when it was the right thing to do, but he was not dumb.  Pine Kirk is really a dumb patsie for Marcus.  Pike's faith was indeed misplaced.

What is/was the best SW Game ever, on any platform?
Time

I was not speaking of the game controls they looked similar.

Played Similar if not for the tweaks you mentioned minor things "introduced ducking, jumping, and looking up"

They also were trying to sell the game to the same audience.  That Bought DOOM I and Doom II, And Wolfenstein.

I liked the game and noticed the jumping aspect but it was not exactly mind blowing.

Yeah the level design was much more impressive and such but still the same concept only better.  Its like we can do a similar style game but make it better.

They went much more star wars style when they made Kyle Katarn a Jedi or force sensitive.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

Ideally Further Adventures of Luke Skywalker should have been done by 1992-3 at the latest, the same with Indiana Jones unfortunately.

Obviously if star wars VII had been made then the Zahn Trilogy would not have been allowed to be written.

Age is a factor not just for the cast but the directors as well.

Would Lucas have come out of retirement sooner for SW 7 or Spielberg when he wanted to be taken Seriously as a director want to do INDY pictures?

We know they wanted to do other things.

And Harrison Ford was a big star outside star wars and indy he did not need them.

Lucas had decided by about 1991 to not make the sequel trilogy.  It just was not a completely closed off option until he made the decision during or after making the prequels.

He only sort of changed his mind because he does not have to write or direct the new movies.

Are 7-9 G canon or Disney Canon,lol.

I doubt Luke is Married to Mara Jade.  I wish it were Canon but it is not.  He will be a celibate monk probably, lol.  Or maybe he had a fling with some chick and has a son or daughter but is not Married.  Attachment is forbidden, lol,  i really wish the prequels never happened.

Info: POSSIBLY FOUND - Star Wars A New Hope Technicolor I.B. dye transfer print - random post on reddit
Time

Exactly most are said to have the redo title scroll with A New Hope spliced onto reel 1.  And not intact as original 77 prints.

The baltimore one was altered on reel 1.  I think correct me if i am wrong the redone spliced on section was from fading Eastman color stock.

It was original just called star wars.  The opening crawl was redone to Episode IV: A NEW Hope.

I to this day only call the film Star Wars which confuses 1-6 saga buffs to no end.

Help: looking for... Star Trek 1 to 6 - HDTV, non DNR versions...
Time

The BD are the same exact masters as the HDTV versions except for II which got a restoration from the o-neg.

How much DVNR was applied on these older existing masters is up for debate but every film clearly had work done.

I think star trek I might just be from an earlier HD transfer with the DVNR already applied but i could be wrong.

Also Trek VI looks like an inferior old transfer and not the result of DVNR. As far as i could tell.

III-V however are really heavy DVNR.  And no reason as to why it was done.

Godzilla 1985 MonstersHD (* unfinished project - with info &amp; ideas *)
Time

I did consider buying Gojira 1984 from Japan but as no english subtitles are on the BD it would be pointless.

Also no reviews of the TOHO BD are online as far as i know.

Their release of Hidden Fortress which is not from the criterion restored print got less than stellar reviews.

Waiting for a US release from Criterion.  I know Godzilla 84 will probably not happen as the original blu ray did not sell well for Gojira from criterion and TOHO wants too much for the license to the 1984 movie.

The Best game would have Battlefront 3 to bad Luca$ pulled the plug.

A game that was very close to being done.  Unlike Kotor III which was never even made.

My vote for game released is for the original X-Wing  floppy disc version.

Or Dark Forces if it was not such a shameless knockoff of doom II/wolfenstein.

Loved the Vector graphics star wars too bad every machine of it i ever found was in poor unrestored shape.

What always jarred me out of the experience however was that it was clearly not Alec Guiness as Obi Wan in the game  and also that lasers work on destroying the death star its supposed to be ray shielded and only proton torpedoes should work.

Mark Hamill to star in 2-hour Criminal Minds (CBS) finale!
Time

I would be surprised if he suits up as Luke Skywalker again, i mean he walked away from his best role that he had played for 20 years recently, the joker voice.

He was Luke for merely a decade or less.

And considering Disney pays everyone except Robert Downey squat to be in their films i would be pretty surprised if they get MH for episode VII.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

The basic plot has been done and given the ok a while ago.  Probably even before the sale of LFL was made public.

How many drafts it takes to get an actual shooting script from that same story is a good question though.

In the interim the big three could be written out if they refuse to come on board or are difficult in negotiations.

They appear to not be important to the plot and are just window dressing.

The story obviously will be centered around the younger actors who will be playing their kids.  Whether they are young adults like in their 20's or teenagers has not yet been said. Nor who will play them or even their names.

They tried the prequels with a new young cast and that worked extremely well, lol.

4 years of waiting all in vain.  Now very very worried about Star Wars VII.

Different writers. Was it a well-directed film, aside from its script?

Fair enough.  His directing was well above average for this kind of summer action spectacle.

The story is absolute rubbish if not for the cast's chemistry it would fall apart.

So yeah good on JJ for saving another crappy script.  Can't they hire decent writers for  star trek III or XIII depending on what you call it.Or if Orci and Friends must write it please come up with at least an inkling of New Worlds, New Civlilizations, New Characters.

So apparently they lied to us and did exactly remake star trek II a classic film instead of tell an original story.  So much fail.

What was the point of creating a new timeline/universe if you are going to rehash.

Orci and Kurtzmen are outright hacks for this story.

4 years of waiting all in vain.  Now very very worried about Star Wars VII.

And i pretty much figured that Robocop/ Weller was the baddie from the beginning he was a bad guy on Enterprise also.

Still laughing at the fact they remade star trek II a 3rd time but instead of ripping it off like nemesis and trek 2009 they literally remade star trek II.

Wish i could travel back in time 4 years and tell Orci to not Rehash Nick Meyers story.
