Space Above and Beyond Official DVD Release Date and other sci fi
Time
they will not show the second half of battlestar galactica season 2 until december or january of next year, and the box set of the second round of episodes will probalbly come out 2-6 months after. People have been talking about whether or not somewhere in the future they will have a box set of all of season 2, not just half of the episodes, lame.

Spike TV buys Saga tv rights
Time
sci fi channel used to own the original version of the trilogy in widescreen, but they no longer show it, probalbly to appease mr. lucas, speaking of which did anyone ever record the broadcasts. I think one time they had Billy dee williams as the presenter, and carrie fisher on another.

they even showed the original star trek episodes digitally restored, with new interviews with leonard nimoy and william shatner which did not end up on dvd, anyone have this?

Ideas & Info: 'a fistful of dollars' and 'for a few dollars more' special editions - and other rants about foreign releases...
Time

a fistful of dollars and for a few dollars more special editions

they were only released in the uk. as pal releases and not the u.s., has anyone ever thought of doing an ntsc conversion would it be worth it?

I still think that Sergio Leone’s original vision should be preserved and these are much closer to his original directors cuts of the films.

Another director whose work i think should be given better treatment here in the states is akira kurosawa, the criterion releases while good are not as good as the remastered japan region 2 releases and I think these japan releases should be put on region 1 in some sort of project, and since they don’t have english subtitles anyone with knowledge of japanese could do a fansubtitle, or the subtitles and english audio commetary could be pulled from criterion to create a better version.

As an anime fan I would also like to see a preservation of the Yamato Films the way they were presented in japan on dvd and laserdisc, not the lame treatment given by voyager entertainment.

I think the O-OT WAS restored
Time
the company that did the special edition was YCM Laboratories, and the 2004 was by Lowry Digital Images inc.

YCM physically cleaned up the original negative by washing it, and fixing it frame by frame scanning it into a computer recompositing all the original film elements that were stored in the lucasfilm archives. Lowry did a digital restoration with their bank of g5 computers and their own algorithm program, but as they only had three months it was a rush job.

John Lowry in an interview explained that some many new prints had to be struck from the new masters created for the special edition in 1997 that the films were even further degraded, saying that the popularity of the flms led to their own detriment.

Interested in everyones opinion when ROTS DVD Comes after Nov 1
Time
I felt both the screenplay and the novelization were better because they left the deleted scenes intact, which helped make the story make sense. If they just kept them in the movie even though the film would have been three hours long but more comprehensible. we have sat through three 3 hour lord of the rings movies, one star wars 3 hour movie would've been great even if some of the scenes would've brought the film an R rating or slowed down the pace of the film. The film should have been more important than the kiddies it was a pg-13 that just barely dodged the bullet of getting an R, or the advertising like action figures etc.

Lucas may be a shrewd businessman for trying to make tons of money on the toys market, but that certainly does'nt give him good filmaker status, he lost that after return of the jedi.

quote from theredbaron "Why do so many people subscribe to the belief that Obi-wan was Owen Lars' brother? Where does this come from? I, for one, thought that Owen should have been a friend of Anakin's, and a surrogate uncle to Luke" because it was in the story conference for jedi, earlier drafts of the screenplay and was official continuity until attack of the clones, as it showed up in the return of the jedi novelization by james kahn.

Info Wanted: I'm looking for a deleted scene from ANH
Time
is this a belated april fool's joke. seriously they could've included all the deleted materials in the trilogy box set, they have them in the lucasfilm archives. we would eat this stuff up, even if it was released uncleaned up or without the effects finished. I think the reason they have not been is lucas knows fans will recut the films to put the footage back in. back in his first interview with wired magazine he said he did'nt think people should be able to touch another artists film because of artists rights.

this would apply to the orginal trilogy which he recut twice and is recutting again, even though he own's them they were a collaborative effort. I cannot believe he's allowed to bury the originals and none of the guilds or academys will stop him, what about the people who slaved over these films should'nt their work be preserved? I think lucas should be able to do what he wants with his films, only if the original versions are preserved on dvd. I mean the model builders, the mask makers, puppeteers etc. work should be preserved. Does'nt suprise me that he would crap all over these creative artists endeavors however, since even today he won't ackowledge john dykstra and look at his phenomenal work on star trek the motion picture, battlestar galactica (original) and spider man and spider man II. He evented the motion control dykstaflex camera that back in the 70's made star wars so amazing, i admit the two and a half million dollars spent by lucas not by him to get it working however.

And i still think Gary Kurtz should've been involved on jedi, and the prequels, and lawrence kasden etc. and the original production crew, although it would've cost more money. I don't think the young indy crew should have been used on the prequels. If he would only get the original artists, writers back together and make episode 7
he could be redeemed in all star wars fans eyes, with mark hamill, harrison ford and carrie fisher returning, or at least just mark hamill as a ben kenobi type character passing on the torch to the next generation of jedi knights end capping the series. No need to make episodes 8 or 9.

who did the cover art for the u.k. releases because i've always been partial to those covers you posted here. I had an article, magazine somewhere about him years ago think it was star wars insider or galaxy magazine. Think there is an article on starwars.com just do not know his name. I have a set of giant sized star wars cards that have his trilogy of images in the set.
