Transformers: The Movie (1986 animated version) (a WIP)
Time

So there is no region A blu ray correct.  I know if there was a Japan Blu ray i would own it.  I"m in region A not B.  So also like Street fighter II animated i don't have this on BD.

Also what is the best version of the full frame 4:3 i'm pretty sure there is no HD version.

The long out of print Sony release came with a second DVD with a version supposedly remastered but had different colors than the 16:9 version.

A friend of mine years ago told me metrodome  did their own version which was worse?  Not sure its been so long. That would have been PAL while the Sony was NTSC.

Making of Return of the Jedi (the book) Thread

If Rinzler went through the trouble and did the research and already wrote the book on Episode I why would Disney just pull the plug.  That is nonsensical.

Its like the rumor of them pulling the plug on the whole EU during or after 2014. I mean in terms of Del Rey books and Dark Horse comics.  But they cancelled that star wars game and cancelled clone wars.  So i guess anything is possible.

The period of between 1983 and 1999 really interest me.  What aborted concepts for the prequels for instance they had originally been planned to come out in 1988.  According i think to the making of Jedi but a few years off became 16.  What were the original outlines for the sequel trilogy ?

I know a lot of this is explored in Zombie's book but from official rather than 3rd or 2nd hand sources would be nice.

What i mean is real planning and treatments or ideas for the prequels and sequels not the bullshit Lucas told the press.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

The last life-size Falcon was built for the deleted sandstorm scene in Return of the Jedi, or as it was known when filming Revenge of the Jedi.

What i am worried about is a cgi falcon instead of a model for the actual shots of it in space.

The new Enterprise  1701 in the Star Trek reboot was all cgi and no model and that was ILM and JJ Abrams.

I am also worried about lens flares.

Today the Falcon flying through the asteroid field would just be man hours to render in cgi.  You would not have ILM painstakingly creating the effect with miniatures, models, motion control  cameras and matte paintings.

There are some promising things we do know so far however about Episode VII  being shot on real film 35mm,  Kasdan is writing it.  But again the promises to limit cgi remind me a bit of Crystal Skull and that was Shot on film.  Kathy Kennedy worked on that.   And it was shit.

What do you LIKE about the EU?
Time

They released the full unabridged versions of Allegiance and Specter of the Past as online download only versions, no CD.  Just like Dark Force Rising and the Last Command.   Read by Marc Thompson.  Supposedly Vision of the future comes out sometime in December of this year.

All Timothy Zahn Titles previously not available unabridged.

No listings or future plans to do Choices of one.  Would be nice to have a full Timothy Zahn Set.  But i would prefer CD's.

Is that aubible website worth it.  I mean if thats the only form to get them other than itunes?

Sometimes Mark Thompson can make even some of the crap books almost okay.

Like Apocalypse and Crucible.

On TFN they're convinced that Darth Plagueis will be the villain.

The character from the dropped subplot that taught Palpatine how to manipulate midi chlorians, which he used to create Anakin.  Making the Emperor Luke's granddaddy probably was a step to far for Lucas.

But so was young Han Solo in Episode III.

I am hoping JJ pretends the prequels never happened or never mentions them.

I hope Rinzler's promise to George to not write any more books on the making of a star wars film was just a joke.  He mentions it in the book.  I want to see him write the making of Episode VII.

Would have been interesting to see him pen better making of books for Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones but doubt they will do those there is probably no interest.

The original trilogy storyboards book looks to be interesting.  Now i sort of see why there were about none of them in the making of empire or jedi they wanted to sell more books.

I know the first book making of star wars only had selected ones in the premium hardcover  as a bonus.

Info Wanted: 'LOTR - FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING': Green tint removed?
Time

I don't understand the conversation on the hobbit movies digital projection versus print because unlike the lord of the rings trilogy they are shot on video and not film.  So what difference does it make to exhibit it on 35mm?

These are not shot on super 35 and it might have kept costs down but the movies look like video.

Canon; A philosophical question.

A question to the board; Do you care about Official Canon, and if so, why?

I used to care when the Saga was 3 movies.  And the official George Lucas canon was just the movies  pre special edition, novelizations, and first 2 radio plays.

Then seeing how awful the prequels were and so out of touch with the writing on the originals, i stopped caring.

I don't think he would have mentioned them had Clone Wars been canceled at the time.  Supposedly the next series of novels is in development limbo because of Disney.  The Trilogy by Christie Golden called Sword of the Jedi got nothing but some teaser art and now might be cancelled.

Its all rumor and speculation at this point.

Man of Steel is a weird film on every conceivable level. I could sit and write a novel-sized post on how weird it is, but it honestly speaks for itself. The plot, the acting, the pacing, all feels (appropriately?) semi-alien.

I'd recommend watching it twice, Skyjedi. People seem to form their concrete opinion of MOS in their second viewing.

I read when it gets to Earth its like a ripoff of Batman Begins.  Honestly i hope not.  I got the same from the trailer.  And Superman is anything but brooding, full of angst and unsure of himself.  Nolan got away with it because its supposed to show that he was like that before he was Batman.

I love Batman Begins and the other 2 Batman flicks by Nolan despite their flaws.  But I don't know people are saying he really is not Superman til the last 5 minutes of the movie and that part 2 was going to be a Superman film proper, that was until it became another Batman film.

Have not finished the movie yet but was watching the first ten minutes of Man of Steel and noticed Krypton looks like a desaturated Pandora from Avatar.  Also annoyed by just how bad Crowe is as Jor-El.

Hope the rest of the film picks up as i was bored to tears and thought the CGI was pretty terrible.

Is anybody else afraid of the EU influencing the sequel trilogy?

I'm more afraid of the PT influencing the EU.

That was the problem after 1999, then it became retconning the EU to fit the second animated clone wars.  Which happened with fate of the jedi and crucible where they reference mortis from the clone wars.

Funny thing is they did not remake the Mandolorians into the clone wars variety they skipped over that entirely.  They are still the same 2 dimensional thugs of the fate of the jedi series.
