A full movie on a workprinter must be labor intensive if you have to scan each individual frame, Still hopefully you can finish and distro before the X0 gets done.
Yeah i love the trailers even for the special editions i will grudegingly admit they were well made and edited and made people excited to see the films in theaters again. I saw all three in 1997. My biggest gripe was greedo shooting first other than that i did not hate the changes over all because i Had the 1995 pan and sacn one last time set at home.

Yes if that happened i could live with the Special Editions and the Prequels, I still would not love them but they would not have replaced the real movies from 1977-1983.
Sadly there is not a snowballs chance in hell of Lucas ever doing a proper restoration up to current industry standards (this would mean the oot could be shown theatrically again or be given a blu ray release) or he would have answered the fans and Robert Harris insistance on this being done now before the remaining prints and negatives are competely beyond saving.
I believe Harris even said just because the oneg was cut up for the special edition (a crime beyond words) he could savage it and undo those destroyed sequences.
Lucas saves everything practically there is no reason why we cannot get the mono mix for star wars, the 35mm mix and the 6 track mag. I guarantee you lucas has these in the lfl archives and ben burtt and tom holman had access to them for the 1993 mixes and the 1997 mixes.
Tom Christopher and Ben Burtt undertook an exhaustive search for the old sound stems and elements in 1995 for the restoration of the soundtrack, they were in vaults underground, or elsewhere many at fox studios, samuel goldwyn or even at elstree in england. Whatever else that was not lost was in Lucas own archives.
Lucas even mixed the old foreign dubs their is no reason those cannot be released as well for the purists. You know people who care to hear the 1977 japanese dub or german for instance. From what i know the foreign dubs were more finished than their american counterparts using all the changes from the mono mix though many were in stereo.
The intent of the 1993 mix was to cherry pick the best parts from all three original mixes on the 1977 film to complete the "definitive" mix. But Later Burtt found he forgot the 3-P0 tractor beam line. Other than that the 2 channel definitive mix is the best mix ever realized for home audio. Since the 6 track Magnetic 70mm monaural mix has never been released, well it is called six track stereo but not true stereo the surrounds were monaural.

There was a rumor before Connery was cast that Jack Lord was considered for Bond but could not get out of his contract for Haiwai 5-0. I find this Hilarious as he was also up for the role of Captain Kirk which William Shatner actually got. Jack Lord funilly enough got a part in DR No as Felix i believe.
It is also well known that they wanted Roger Moore in the Sixties when he was On the Show The Saint but Moore Could not get out of his contract.
The sixties had some very good spy shows Like The Avengers, The Saint, Mission Impossible, the Man From Uncle. I find it Funny that some of the women form the Avengers actaully ended up in bond films.

It is absolutely Pathetic that The upcoming Video Game Force Unleashed is better written than all three prequel flms because Lucas brought other writers in. He is also bringing in other writers on the clone wars cartoon tv show and the live action tv show and it is about fucking time cause the dude cannot write.
It is absolutely inexcusable that Lucas did not bring other writers and directors in on the prequels. A few More Script Drafts and some good screen writers as well as a couple good directors on Clones and Revenge would have been better.
But he did not want to spend the minimim of a 500 thousand dollars to pay other writers to write the 3 scripts. I believe he should have Directed Phantom Menace just to get the ball rolling but other editors and better actor directors should have been brought in to make it a better movie.
The best kind of friends a writer can have are not yes men they are people who will tell you your story is shit if it is. and in the end your book or movie comes out better.
To this day i find it amusing that Marcia Lucas the editor made George Lucas the director look Good as a story plotter, and writer when the visceral quality of the oot at least of the first film was made in the editing room and With the LSO scoring the film. Also the witty dialogue and snappy lines were not even written by him Their were written by Williard Huyck and Gloria Katz. Empire was written Mostly by Kasden with Input from Lucas, Kurtz and Kersh as well as the actors.
Kasden says to this day he did a final draft on Return of the Jedi to help George, but it is obvious the story was Lucas. On Jedi Lucas regained control over star wars to the detriment to the franchise. He brought in a a BBC documentary Filmaker sympathetic to him someone who Liked doing things on the cheap Richard Marquand. How much better would have Jedi been if it kept the adult tone of Empire was written well and had a real director of actors Like Kersh who buy the way understood drama, stage plays and shakepeare and good acting.
We all know what happened with Kershner out as Director of Jedi replaced by Marquand, and Kurtz Replaced as Producer By Howard Kazanjian a school friend of lucas and a yes man. We got Ewoks we got a kiddie esque film with Ewoks, and another death star. and the Pussyfying of star wars had begun. IT only took til 1999 for things to hit Rock bottom with Jar Jar Binks.

Many See that film as the absolute lowpoint of the Franchise, and Casino Royale 2006 as the absolute highpoint. I Disagree on Both Points as for me Moonraker is the worst Bond feature since the sixties Casino Royale or never say never again are not a part of the series. special editions are nothing but a personal fan edit by george lucas to satisfy himself and should never been released or allowed to supercede the classic versions. Nobody would care if he released the oot in a real restoration. Instead we get 1993 laserdisc bonus discs.

You get so see some of the selflessness of Luke Skywalker in Anakin in Episode 1 and especially in the novelization.
Well that actually is when Luke joined the rebellion and became a pilot that attacked the death star. and you see him as a leader in empire strikes back. Now looking back Luke is incredibly selfish in many parts of the trilogy following his father's lead, its in the genetics, lol.
In the films this is all but gone in Episode II when anakin Becomes a brooding prick.
Again the novelizations for episode II and III make the character seem more human, which bring me back to Lucas being a hack storyteller and terrible writer.
Apparently for a newer purer Jedi order to come about, Luke's New Jedi Order. Anakin was the scourge of destiny that had to wipe out both the sith and the jedi for this to come about. But as with Lucas Yin and Yang concept or two sides of a coin that means another sith order had to come about as well, one that would replace the sith of old and the rule of two.
This is all EU anyhow but Darth Krayt's New sith Order emerges 90+ years after return of the jedi. The jedi mostly being wiped out by the yuuzhan vong and the war angainst Darth Caedus. THe lines of Jaina Solo and Ben Skywalker keep the jedi flame burning in the universe.
To be a regular person in the Star Wars universe you would have to be pissed as you get hundreds of years more of religious war between the Jedi and the Sith. I'm suprised a Hitler like Character does not come on the scene and say lets wipe them all out.
Because George and Lucasfilm don't care about putting out a quality product anymore, how hard is that to figure out look at the 2006 gout biggest insult and joke in cinema history.

You just got to love the fact that the Dark Knight bombed in Japan, and got owned by Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's latest picture Ponyo on a cliff. To make a long story short that animated film is Miyazaki's take on the little mermaid myth from Hans Christian Anderson so famously butchered by Disney.

That is why i am kinda happy he did not do episodes 7-9. Star Wars to me ended in 1983 at least as a film series. I liked the EU that continued after jedi without ruining the saga, i liked the Zahn Trilogy. Even the EU got ruined by the prequels and special editions because everything had to be retconned to fit the prequels and special editions even the marvel comics.
To me 1999 was an awful year Star Wars was ruined with Crapisode 1 That Phantom Plot Movie, and of Course the Deluge of ruination of the EU started with Vector Prime.

Ewoks in Jedi awful. Han solo basically stands around the movie having no character development whatsoever. Big dissapointment after empire strikes back. I agree with Harrison if they could not give him better material then Han should have died in the carbonite, after beeing thawed.
Leia is also pretty badly written in jedi and comes off as a cardboard character compared to her role in Empire.
The whole movie is Luke centric, and the better parts of that i'm suprised they were able to pull off. Even though they were aping Empire Strikes back during the more serious parts. I'm sure the film would have come off as silly if not for the wagnerian operatic movement chosen when Luke casts his Lightsaber aside.

The story of Luke Skywalker was rooting for the underdog and the oppressed. the Story of a traditional hero not like today where villains and anti heroes are the heroes of films. Where a creepy youngling serial killer becomes the hero of the saga and dethrones the story of Luke. Where goth crap and dark for darkness sake have taken over cinemas. Where is the hero that kids need to root for in stories, the good fairy story every child needs i think lucas once said
The whole problem with the prequels is you already know pretty much who lives and who dies and what is going to happen there are little room for surprises. The whole success of the venture was hinging on showing anakin's transformation into vader and showing he was a good man and beneficent before that happened.
Lucas fucked up the turn making it instantaneous instead of the slow seduction hinted at in the oot. Instead of turning from a good man to a bad man you a get a whiny teenage emo spoiled brat you want to punch in the face.
Not only does that turn the vader in the suit into a total whiny bitch, but you also feel nothing for anakin except he got what he deserved. He could have been left to burn in the lava and not a soul would care based on the botched characterization of a classic villain.
The biggest problem for me anakin before the suit and after the suit zero character development.
You never get that he cares for another person (except padme and that only as an object aka selfish). You never see him make any sacrifices for the republic or fighting side by side his fellow common man in the war.
All you get is a selfish ego driven bastard you really wish obi wan put out of his misery on Mustafar.
