Watchmen Film
Time

In a what if scenario.  What if Fox decides to release the film as a distributor and get most of the profits since they own the license to watchmen, and they are allowed final cut and recut the film.

That is what some fans fear.

Like if they cut it down to an no more than 2 hours 10 min tops including the end credits.

The worse thing they could possibly do is cut it down to an hour and 40 minutes, but that would be the real nighmare scenario.  I personally think they will not allow it ever to be released.  and the only way people could see it is if it leaks via torrent sites.

Then fans who download it get slammed by Warners lawyers.

How about fox may block watchmen ever being allowed to be released.

How do you like them apples?

How many fanboys are going to boycott and protest fox over that.

And will it hurt fox on the wolverine film if enough fans refuse to see that movie is watchmen is not released.

As it is there is no way Warners will be able to make the original release date.  If the film even comes out it will be delayed by a few months possibly.

Fox gets distrobution  rights, but they don't even want to release it.

And nobody knows if it is because Fox may want to make their own watchmen film, or is just doing this because of the haggling over the old batman tv rights between the studios, you know the sixties tv show.

Which is funny because i bet after what fox did to the Marvel comics properties Marvel has since set up their own studio, and probably wants the rights back to X-men,lol.

Star Wars and Indiana Jones on Blu-Ray Discussion
Time

That would be relevent if Lucasfilm had not already released 2 films on Blu Ray, i mean ok it is 2 films nobody wants Clone Wars and Indiana Jones IV.  But to pretend Lucas does not know that Blu won the format war is ridiculous.

Does he make more money by selling the HD rights to Cinemax, HBO etc.  Than releasing them on blu ray?

He already has 1080p masters for all six star wars films, and all 3 original Indiana Jones films.

All cleaned up by Lowry and delivered to them on hardrives.

Maybe all people would get if the demand was there for them on Blu Ray, is the files dumped straight to blu ray disc as seen on HDTV but in superior resolution. But the audio and colors still messed up.

Like the gout, and 2004 special edition release.  Very little care went into the 2004 set, the 2006, or 2008 sets.

The original trilogy non special edition is still not cleaned up and still non anamorphic.  The 2004 set still has the audio and color glitches and non fixed black mattes around the ships.

I mean unless he is waiting to put them on Blu Ray after the 3D releases in theaters if that even ever happens.

He is busy working on the Clone wars Cartoon, and prepping the live action star wars series.  I think he wants to personally supervise the blu ray disc releases himself.  Or could it be he thinks like Bill Gates that HD downloads is the next big thing, and is waiting for blu ray to fail.

Perhaps like many he sees HDTV and Blu Ray as a niche market.  If this is true then star wars is being marketed to the general populace who still have 4:3 CRT tvs and dvd players.

They are going to do the same bullshit double dip or triple dip on the dvds as they did in the past, new boxset season 4.0.  I will  pay for a full boxset not half a season for the price of a full one.

They did this with season 2 as well.  Epic Fail on Universals part.

I already had to buy season 1 twice to get all the bonus materials.

The only season i think they did not pull a fast one on people was season 3.

Unless of course those people already had razor then they ended up with a duplicate copy.  Again utter stupidity on their part.  Either release it as part of the boxset or seperately. Just don't expect people to buy something twice.

I'm sick and tired of them dragging the finale of the series out.  Been over a year and a half since they announced the end of the series. At this point i could not give a shit over who the final cylon is, if that has no bearing on the shows overall plot or story arc.  It reeks of the JJ abrams plot twist were people go wtf?, i think they call that a mindfuck. I've already been through this nonsense on 24, Heroes, Lost And Alias.

The Politics are boring, i want adventure like the original galactica.  Plus you knew who the bad guys were and who the good guys were.  Are they going to segway into something original than the Bush bashing in the guise of sci fi, i mean Obama's going to be sworn in.

Can Ronald Moore do anything at all original.  I mean he recycled his post 911 dark story angle from enterprise for galactica, and now the trailer i saw for Caprica makes me think James Cameron's Terminator.

Reason Why George Lucas Should Shut The Hell Up!
Time

The funny thing is the thing he was complaining about was colorization of black and white three stooges episodes.  And they were both released in the same quality in a boxset with the viewer being able to choose to see the original version or the colorised.

Unlike say including the inferior gout side by side with the 2004 cut of the star wars trilogy.

George is entitled to his opinion at least in the United States of America where democracy matters, even if his opinion is wrong.  Plus he owns the movies and he created them, he has every legal right to do anything he wants with the films, and nothing we say as fans can change that.

But we can try to get the originals restored to an exceptable quality for dvd and blu ray, and make them viable again for theatrical exhibition and saved for future generations.  Right now the film prints and original elements are rotting in Lucas vaults and could be lost forever to time eventually.  The digital copies Lucas sent to Lowry where only 1080p, certainly good enough for the current blu ray format but no way near close to film resolution.  The larger negative area on the 8 perf vistavision which is roughly 70mm could yield a 6k scan and the 35mm could yield a 4k.

But my question is what is the state of the negative nobody really knows it is a tight lipped secret that Only YCM laboratory in 1997 could say and they probably had to sign a non disclosure agreement.

So even if most of the film was restored the scenes that were not would need to be, that is a minimalist job.  Then the other is what Robert Harris suggested a complete new restoration and overhaul of the original negative to return it to its original state.  The new opticals and effects from the special edition would be cut out and the missing original footages would have to be spliced in from another source if george did not keep those peices of film he cut out of the physical oneg.

The real question is would a 4k scan show all the optical generation steps, and loss between the live action and effects footage.  How much more visible would be things like matte lines that were mostly blacked out before or were not as visible in theaters.

The star wars movie was on such a deadline that their were effects that lucas felt were not good enough or dykstra and his people thought had not been matted properly but they ran out of time and money.

The matte lines around the falcon during the gunport falcon scene being one of the worst examples.  They can have that excuse on star wars but some of the same mistakes where done on return of the jedi where the mattes are clearly visible.

Hey now that they have computer technology and digital manipulation things like fixing those would be easy but even back then they could have been fixed.  They would have had to be painstakingly painted out of every frame back then however.

However it is understandable that they were on a schedule and timetable for release and that George basically funded most of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi out of his own pocket.  Even the first film had been entirely funded by him until very late when fox finally agreed with the budget.

Fox payed the 20 million to restore the trilogy for its special edition 20th anniversary in 1997.  Lucas did not have to spend a dime of his own money.  So why would he now pay for a restoration when he never paid for the one in 1997.  He was allegedly able to get all rights back to the first star wars and empire strikes back, and fox got distribution rights on the prequels and lucas finally got to finish the movies as he had always imagined them.

Oh and Ray Harryhausen has gone back and colorized his own films and the films he did the special effects on, and they have been released in Black and White and Color versions as a dual release.

The movie She had always been intended to be shot in color but the techicolor format was so expensive that they shot it in black and white and he went back in with computer colorists and tried to colorise the film as envisioned.

Even night of the living dead the original got a modern digital coloring job that looks much more natural than the original colorized print on vhs.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

Ben Burrt is sound designer on the new jj trek film that comes out in 2009, beginning to sound more and more like star wars and less like trek.  Its like old home week for the prequels.  You got a movie made entirely on hd video, which effects are all computer created.  You have Ryan Church as a visual design person, ILM as the effects crew, and ben burtt as the sound designer.

That is pretty much everybody but John Williams and George Lucas, lol.

Episode 3's Wasted Characters
Time

If people actually paid to see the phantom menace's sequels. attack of the clones and revenge of the sith, then i would say they gave them more than a chance.  Lucas had 3 chances to deliver, we all know the outcome.

I think as consumers that is more than fair.  Maybe more fair than deserved.  Its time for people to stop paying to see something just because it has the star wars name on it, but is not quality.

Well audiences got it with Clone Wars the only star wars film to not open at number 1 and flop on the big screen.

Indiana Jones IV and the Prequels made tons of money riding on the coatails of good movies and nostalgia.

That is the only way i can explain that they made so much money.

As for the tuskagee airmen picture it will be his first hardcore bomb since howard the duck or More american graffiti.  And there is no way in hell he can do better than the biopic the history channel produced.

I read an article saying this will be basically cgi plane dogfights like star wars back in the day.  It will be like bays pearl harbor only worse.

That said Plenty of directors can do far far worse than George Lucas.  The prequels just did not live up to the original trilogy and for that they will always be damned by some people.

Hey going in people had no characters they really cared for anyway No Han Solo, Luke Skywalker or Leia Organa.

I don't know you would have to ask the young kids who grew up with the prequels if the characters or stories really tocuhed them emotionally, or if the characters were not cardboard cutouts to them.  To me they were inferior in almost every sense to the original series characters, and not only in terms of writing.  Just in plain humanity and likeability.

Unless George was aiming for a detached, emotionless and sterile series of films that we got with overblown cgi.  These films were hollow and souless.  Like food that does not fill you up , or like a drink that does not quench your thirst.  Like books that you open with nice covers that have no writing inside, lol.

In other words pale imitations and shadows of the original films without any sort of storytelling mastery or magic, but full of technical wizardry and visual effects mastery in computer graphics.

What i want is good space fantasy/ science fiction, along with some human drama.  I want to feel, i want magic.  I want characters i care about.  i don't want to watch six hours of videogame footage.  That was not what George promised to deliver, and not what people expected to wait twenty years to see.

Can you imagine those who read the rough draft script, really the first draft in 1974 and waited all this time to see a real wookie battle as george originally planned.

And what we got was the awful cgi monstrosity in episode III completely fake and green screened.

Cgi at its best it when the magician of the technique does not show his hand in the work, it has to look like you actually shot it live in the real world and not like a frickin cartoon.

Still i feel for those poor fellows who in 1974 believed in the greatness of george's vision and waited 31 years for what amounts to a couple minutes of screentime and was a non event.

Blu-ray prices not coming down
Time

2 movies that look stunning on blu ray, and were probably designed with that in mind are clone wars 2008 movie and kingdom of the crystal skull, that says nothing of the films actual quality or plot however.

Clone Wars is EU and i don't think is pretends or masquerades as real star wars, whilst Indiana Jones IV pretends to be the real 4th movie but despite Harrison Ford and Karen Allen being in it the last canon Indy film is Last Crusade.

Lucas and Spielberg had a lot of fun making the movie and the actual behind the scenes stuff if better than the actual film.  I mean Lucas had tons of fun making the prequels and they still sucked.

He had no fun making the originals or mostly no fun because it was a painful experience for him.

I am happy that he is happy with his 2004 trilogy cut as an artist.  Not too pleased with his treatment of the original versions of the films however.  They would require a lot of money and work.  the 2004 is pretty much ready for Blu Ray, it just needs to be properly color corrected and the audio needs to be fixed, matte lines removed etc.

The first film was in the worst shape.  The negative had degraded so far, the film was made on unstable filmstock, this was prior to lpp which jedi is probably the only film that has not severely faded. LPP arriving late in 1982.  Star Wars according to Robert Harris had a lot of cri stock in the oneg.  Aka Color Reversal Internegative.

a dumb hack and slash game an rpg hardly.  Well if you follow the definition of what we believe a rpg to be based on our experience with J-rpg's starting with the first final fantasy on the nes or famicom to those in japan.

Unless in the strictest sense you do role play it puts you in the role of controlling starkiller, but that would make God of War an rpg too and nobody calls that an rpg.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

If i remember correctly the remake of metal gear solid renamed the twin snakes for the gamecube used the same game engine as metal gear solid 2.

To me the first one was the best and most original of the lot and a remake for the ps3 would be welcomed, as well as a remake of Final Fantasy VII,lol.  Seriously these two games made owning the original playstation worthwhile.

That and the first medal of honor game, which looks silly now in comparison to the Call of Duty sequels.

Halo 3 has owned every first person shooter except for maybe call of duty modern warfare, or goldeneye 64.

What is the quality of Episode 1 in HD?

The dvd had edge enhancement issues and bad dvnr.

Would anyone care to post screen shots of the movie, not here of course but on one of those photo hosting places.

I don't think anyone has done a comparison between the HDTV version and the dvd.

Supposedly the pal dvd release was not as bad because of the increase of resolution of the pal format.

Maybe a lot of the problems in the dvd is the compression was not handled well and it is bitrate starved.

Is the HD version the theatrical or DVD cut?

A theatrical version in HD with the Dolby digital EX laserdisc audio would be awesome.

Episode 3's Wasted Characters
Time

So i watched it and i guess i agree with a lot of your points on the failures of the prequels.

I liked the qui gon scene in the script and the novelization as well as padme starting the rebellion.

Grievous was a better character in the Genndy Series and was awful loony tunes level silly in episode III and the new 2008 clone wars cartoon.

Obviously the Rebellion's beginning has been scrapped from Episode III and stricken from canon, and only on the second disc of the dvd of rots as a bonus.

The rebellion's start according to Lucas is now to be what was done in the force unleashed.

I won't say how because some may have not yet played the game, but it is an awful and stupid idea for the rebellions beginning and craps all over the original trilogy.

When did the prequels officially suck?
Time

I still remember the review in Cinescape magazine by Mark Altman where he said that Return of the Jedi was a rehash of star wars.  He also in the same film review said The Last Crusade was a rehash of raiders of the lost ark.

Basically Empire Strikes Back was an original film that stood on its own, and was as much for adults as for kids.  As a grown up man jedi does not engage me like it did as a child, there are a couple fine scenes in the movie and a few fun ones too.  Just not as original as star wars, or As Epic as Empire strikes back.  Jedi Failed to build upon what Kershner, Kurtz and Kasden, and Lucas had created as a collaborative effort.

You had an awesome and daring dark second half of the trilogy with good character drama, and then you end it all with a film where Han Solo basically stands around for a whole film with no story potential and end it with a teddy bear picnic, lol.

Jedi succeeds like star wars as a swashbuckling adventure, but empire basically makes those films look silly.

A reason why i am sure Lucas hates empire, as he has said it is the worst film in the saga.

When it is obvious to all critics whose opinions matter that The Empire Strikes Back is the finest of all six films.

Jedi might be the least of the original trilogy but it is a hundred times better than the lackluster prequels.

On Jedi is where the yes men thing started and George was going to do things his own way.  Kasden told him having another death star was a bad idea and not original, lucas did not listen.

I guess we should be glad the 2 death stars idea was dropped early on.

The third film basically tied everything up, lucas took 4 films and compressed them into one.  The emperor and luke becoming a jedi would have had been in the later films.  as well as him discovering his sister who was not leia.  The third film would have had Luke confront vader and defeat him, of course at this time it was already decided that Vader was indeed Lukes father.  Luke would confront the emperor later on in another film.   Leia became the sister in jedi out of necessity to tie everything up.  Han Solo ends up with her of course, but in 1978 it just as easily could have been Luke who was not her brother.

I'm still mad with fox for cancelling Space above and beyond, lol.

I'm probably the only person who actually liked that show and that is why is was cancelled.

Firefly was a dumb move, but hey at least we got serenity out of that.

Like if buffy was not cancelled the awesome best selling lost season in the comics would not exist.

Futurama was cancelled but we got these direct to dvd features and cartoon shows.

Was it ever brought back to tv like Family Guy?

The cancellation of Enterprise eventually led to star trek 11 by JJ abrams.

Fox is not the only network or studio who have cancelled shows.  Sci Fi shows almost always get cancelled.  Journeyman a show i liked was cancelled.

The new flash Gordon cancellation on sci fi lead to the awesome reboot comic, and a new big screen movie in the works.

Frank Miller is going to make the new Buck Rogers movie.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

Hey i am a fan of ILM as much as i hate what Lucas has done to star wars and indiana jones.

I generally enjoyed those dumb pirates of the carribean films and the work they put into them, I even have john knoll's star wars book, lol.

I will totally eat up the visual eye candie and i am dying to get my hands on the eventrual trek issues of cinefex and american cinematographer 2 of my fave magazines.

The cinefex issue for the first trek film goes for a lot of money, and unlike the star wars  fans i don't think there is someone scanning these issues and digitally preserving them.  If someone would do what starwarsachives did,  for Indiana Jones and Star Trek i would be so totally happy.

I think someone on these boards was it digitalfreaknyc said that maybe someday he would put out the Indiana Jones articles.  Then nothing came of it which is unfortunate.

Well here i go off topic again, lol.

By the way despite all the changes to the characters, their histories and the Canon their is no way the new Trek film can ever be as bad as nemesis.  The effects on that movie were poorly done in comparison to what ILM had done on first contact.  ILM should have been used on Insurrection and Nemesis, I think they even built a model for first contact's enterprise E even though most of the work by then was cgi.

The enterprise attacking the borg cube at the beginning of the film was just a wonder to behold in theaters.

Too bad we won't get a real sendoff for the tng crew like the original series crew did at the end of trek VI.

TNG went out with a wimper and not with a Bang.  Not even the reflective somberness of VI.

Stewart was so totally not pleased with Nemesis that he vowed from what i read to never play Captain Picard again. Only Brent Spiner was at the time looking forward to a sequel to nemesis as he had an idea for an 11th movie where data comes back in the form of b4.  Such a bad idea to first rip off wrath of khan then rip off the search for spock.

Patrick Stewart decided to Put Trek behind him and be Professor Charles Xavier in the X-men franchise.

Now even that is a gone by thing.

Apocalypse Now - Workprint (now available) (Released)
Time

I had the 3 disc single layer dvd version of the rough cut from subcin but i traded it so i no longer have it.  Anyway the quality was less than commercial vhs quality.

If coppola wanted the rough cut out there it would have been an extra on the dvd.

This was the edit that was assembled on video right?

and the final version was done on film.

The video tape of the seventies was ultra low resolution i think this was done all on studio grade u-matic tapes.

Lower than broadcast quality.

I mean even if you had access to the first generation copy u-matic tapes the rough cut exist on you could never get dvd quality out of them.

But it would still be better than god knows how many generations of a copy later.

This is the Cut where Martin Sheen almost really died of a heart attack i believe.

It has the doors i think as temp track music too from what i have read.  And is missing the wagner music ride of the valkryies.

When did the prequels officially suck?
Time

Don't feel bad vaderisnothayden there will always be those who like the prequels despite the fact that they sucked, and you will never be able to convince them otherwise.  Trying to convince them that the only real star wars is the original trilogy from 1977-1983 is a losing battle.

This site used to be a bashers santuary, a place where peoples voices of displeasure could be heard on the original movies being buried and other films preservations.

Now it is a fanedit board and prequel and special edition lovers hang out and most of the old members no longer post here and the preservation or trying to get the originals released in the best quality is now mostly dead.

It is as if those people from the offcial lucas site boards and tfn invaded and took over.

Its still Jay's site and he allows a multiplicity of views, people don't get banned for liking the prequels or special editions.  But after all this site is dedicated to the original star wars trilogy from 1977-1983 or it would be specialeditions.com or prequeltrilogylovers.com or such place.

Now it has become the place to get better special editions than george lucas is capable of producing instead of a petition to get the originals restored on dvd or blu ray.  Even the X0 project has had no updates since 2006.

Well i've been told by people on this board that star wars is no longer made for me because i am too old, they said the same thing in the star trek jj abrams thread.  I am only 30 years old.  If that is considered being too old these days then i say fuck those who only make films for the teeny bopper crowd.  My Likes and interests have not changed.  People saying " oh you grew up and star wars is still the same" is bullshit star wars and george lucas changed.  I still can watch the original films and i enjoy them as well as i did when i was 9 years old.

I wish people would cut the crap with trying to make up bad excuses for why the originals sucked and why the prequels are so much better, when they clealry are inferior films to all but the blind.

Just be grateful i did not do texting speech or ebonics as some people may sometimes do by purposely misspelling words.

I have not been in school since 1997 so of course my english is a bit rusty.  and i was always bad at sentence structure.

I try to spell as well as i can without looking up words in a dictionary i don't have one on hand that scans words as i type them and gives suggestions as it is not built into the forum software.  It only tells you if it thinks you misspelled something.

But yeah my thread title uses talk speech and not written speech, but i'm not writing an essay or a book here, lol.

Johnny Mnemonic Japan Cut <JM> Extended (Released)

Yesasia used to be awesome until they raised there prices by ten or twenty dollars on every single dvd from japan.

Cdjapan has better prices but not free shipping i think.

I found out it takes forever with yesasia  no matter what grade of shipping you use.

There warehouse is in china or hongkong or something.

Whereas if you buy direct from a place in japan you can get a dvd by Ems in like 3-5 days.

Just way expensive for shipping.  Can't really complain though, laserdiscs from japan are much more expensive or even LP vinyl records because of how much they weigh.  Cd and Dvd are somewhat cheaper.

Typical Japan dvd's start out at around 40.00 US the lowest up to 90.00 the highest for a regular or special dvd with bonuses.  Boxsets are just absurdly expensive going for hundreds is not thousands of dollars for dvds.  Blu Rays are about 20 dollars more than dvd for regular blu ray.  Blu ray boxsets are like 200 dollars which is really too much money considering they usually don't have english subtitles and dubs and if they do they charge more for the boxset.

If you are talking regular hollywood american films then they should not be too expensive, but what ever you do never get into japan or china foreign films or anime because you will be poor from it,lol.

You guys do know that i am a huge fan of JJ abrams right?

The only thing i don't like is Star Trek by him.

I like Lost, and Alias, have not really gotten around to watching fringe yet.

Okay i will admit i hated Cloverfield but he did not direct it unlike some would think.

And i hated his choice of using that guy from Coppote in MI3, and i am not a huge fan of tom cruise so that might have had something to do with me not liking the movie.

I don't necessarily hate JJ's style.  I think hunter might hate it but please don't bunch me together with another forum member my views are my own and i would hope unique.

The style of quick cuts and faced paced action worked excellently on Alias but that is not the style of Star Trek.

Even coming out of tv I think people like JJ abrams and Joss Whedon are the George Lucas and Steven Spielberg of this generation.  Too bad for Whedon though looks like dollhouse is a flop before it even airs.

I don't mean they are even close to what old school Lucas or Spielberg were just the Best i can think of of the young crowd of directors at the moment.  I would have considered Tim Kring in the past as a newcomer to watch but Heroes totally nuked the fridge.

I don't see the guy who directed batman begins and the dark knight as working in science fiction but Christopher Nolan would be on the list of young talents i would consider to direct a sci fi movie i i was the studios.

Or that guy who did Pans Labrinthe and the 2 Hellboy movies.  I can't think of his name at the moment.

Some would say John favreau who directed Ironman, i thought he was a dubious choice when he was announced as the director early on but the movie turned out okay anyways.  I am not a fan of him as an actor really so this guy was an unknown at least to me doing his first comic book movie.

Really ideally if you were a science fiction author or screenwriter there are a ton of people these days you would want to make your story on screen except for George Lucas or Steven Speilberg, those guys wore out their welcome with Indiana Jones IV.

When did the prequels officially suck?
Time

Yeah it is really depressing equally what has happened to star wars and to George Lucas.

I am reading the making of star wars book again and George was such a genious when he made those student films, then thx 1138, American Graffiti and Star Wars.  If you read the book it was the making of the first star wars film that really burned him out.  Its no wonder he never wanted to direct another film again at the time.  It is also ironic that the compromises he had to make in making that film utimetely made it a better movie.  As some of the more far out and rediculous ideas that were scrapped made it into the prequels.

The Special edition in 1997 essential proves my point that when George finally had the budget to finish the films to his liking the movie was worse not better.  Cosmetic changes are one thing, like wanting the spaceship to move as he had always wanted them to do.  Adding comical and cartoon like characters who did not belong in the film is another.  The Jabba scene was redundant and not needed when the greedo dialogue was changed because Jabba would no longer be in the film.  If they Went back to the old greedo dialogue from the rough cut it still is not a necessary scene in fact it weakens the strength of the Jabba character who is too big of a crime lord to deal with solo personally and would send one of his henchmen like greedo.

It is even funnier when modern day Lucas is contradicted by His own words in the seventies in the same book about Lukes Father.  It is clear Vader and him were seperate characters and Lucas never started out with Vader as the father.

Leia split off from the Luke character and so did Han Solo according to the book.

So Did later on Lucas combine father skywalker with Vader because it was more dramatic?

Because when that scene in Ben's hutt was shot in 1977 he was not lying to Luke when He said "Vader betrayed and murdered" his father.

In the very small lucas talks about verbally Luke's father is the pure White Knight, and Vader is the Black Evil character. They fight on a over a molten pit and vader falls into a volcano or something like that.

At what point did the Kenobi character replace Skywalker vs Vader in that fight or did all three Jedi fight on whatever the prototype of Mustafar was.

I know in the Return of the Jedi script it was known as Had Abbadon until it was jettisoned and the duel ended up on the death star between Luke and Vader.

The Lava planet and the imperial homeworld where one and the same.  Very different than coruscant.  Can you imagine the Jedi temple being on a world that is basically the embodyment of hell.

But the concept of a jedi temple, padawan's and midiclorians was created during episode 1.

For years the EU idea was like a mobile Jedi Fleet or something where is was all distance learning and that non Canon holocrons thing.   The first time there ever was a jedi temple was during the Kevin Anderson jedi academy trilogy when the old rebel base on yavin was converted to the skywalker academy for jedi.

George even borrowed the double bladed Lightsaber concept kevin created for exar kun on the sith war comics.  Except because Kun was not a sith at the time his saber was not red, that was george's idea to make maul's red.

Coruscant was created by Timothy Zahn as the name for the imperial homeworld.

A lot of things from the Eu became canon when Lucas borrowed them for his prequel films.

Like Jedi characters created for comics like Aayla Secura and Quinlon Vos.

Fans wanted him to add Mara Jade into Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi to Canonize the character.  I am glad he did'nt because he would have ruined the character, the same for not digitally Inserting Grand Admiral Thrawn like fans wanted so Lucas could base episodes 7-9 on Zahn's books.
