Even this trailer says it is a different star trek by nero's line of "James T Kirk was a great man.  But that was another Life".  Obviously referring to the real star trek and real Shatner Kirk.

Yes the third trailer is a huge improvement over what has been shown so far.  This movie is going to be Fucking EPIC.  and probably be the biggest grossing Trek of all time.

I'll watch it in the mindset that it is a rebooting of the franchise and has nothing to do with any other trek except in name, and of course there is an enterprise starship,lol.

Funny thing is Bana's Nero is everything Shinzon should have been.  This movie critics will say is everything nemesis should have been.

I am getting a Batman Begins, or Casino Royale feel from this new trailer.

How was Watchmen, can't wait to see that movie.  When's the dvd come out?

There is plenty of pifing and trading going on outside of these boards, but if you don't have any buddies to trade with whose fault is that?

I've been out the loop for a while mainly because of money but i have sent out plenty of discs and not charged for the blanks or the postage.

 Like Moth3r said they is a legal risk involved in sending these discs out.

 When i send a fanedit or preservation disc to someone, the unwritten rule of the community is that the dude i send it too does not put it up on ebay.

Of course there are those projects that only a few get copies of because the creator asks that the disc not be distributed beyond that closed group of people.

Even people who have never seen star trek no who Kirk and Spock are.  Or have heard the words "beam me up scotty".

I believe Star Trek has had an effect on our culture in the past, all the way up to the next generation era and then sort of became lame and died off.

While Star Wars has remained popular.  Too bad the average person thinks star wars and automatically thinks of those three video games passed off as movies 1999-2005 and not the trilogy 1977-1983.

Star Wars Legacy is forever tarnished by the special editions, the prequels and the gout.

It still is not to late to salvage it but Lucas is still busy destroying star wars and has no intention of restoring what he considers to be inferior versions.

He has done everything in his power to prevent the original trilogy as it was to be seen the way it should be seen.  Not just for the people like me who grew up on the films, he is also denying the current generations who were born into this world and future generations from seeing the movies the way they should be seen.

I want to be able to show the films to my Nephew in the best quality possible and all i have is the gout.  Thanks a million George Lucas or should i call him greedo.

What does this have to do with the scope of this thread well very little other than the fact the prequels are an add on EU film series that are not the true promised origins of the oot discussed back in the day, and are rather laughable made up on the spot.  There are so many inconsistancies that Lucas had to recut the original trilogy twice to fit the growing scope of the prequel trilogy and the redux of star wars origins, that have nothing to do with the trilogy circa 1977-1983.  and Everything to do with the EU and Special Edition Exsplosion of the 90's.

Lucas vision of star wars rather than remain static has been a constantly evolving and Updated thing, so much so that no version of the movies is ever considered finished of the original trilogy they are all rough cuts to find that one perfect cut that fit his original vision.

Yeah i am as much guilty as the next person for wanting more star wars beyond the original trilogy the scope of the original three films is limited which makes the Zahn Trilogy and its further EU sequels of some worth since Lucas does not intend to do the sequel trilogy.   I was totally jazzed by the idea of the prequels or sequels trilogies.  In fact i enjoyed them quite a bit when i first saw them in the theater, and that includes the 1997 special edition.  They just don't hold up to well to repeat viewing.  

None of the prequels made me as depressed and betrayed feeling as i was when i left the theater after seeing Indiana Jones IV despite some moments i truly enjoyed in the film, the movie was totally uneven and ruined by Lucas stupid modern cgi sensibility of wackiness that some really get a kick out of. Like a bad parody of the older films i felt embarrassed at the cheesiness of the fridge scene.  Yeah it was funny i will admit, but only in a are you fucking kidding me kind of way.

I can appreciate to a certain degree the wacky sense of humor G. Lucas has.  Some stuff is kinda funny on a stupid kid kind of level, where other stuff is totally inept and unfunny like Jar Jar's Exquueze me, or stepping in poo.

I was wrong.   I looked it up on Russ's GalacticTradeFederation UK site and it is actually the dr gonzo set produced by a former member of these very boards at first i though it was the look versions.

So this site is sellling Ot member created discs, and i am very suspicious of the bonus discs as well.

Is this the 4 disc set TR-47 was selling years ago that got him banned?

If you look very carefully it is a site selling bootlegs.

This is not blanks and postage cost.   They claim to not be a pirate dvd house but that is exactly what they are.

They are even selling the poorly produced malaysian Definitive edition laserdisc rips when the gout is commercially available since 2006.

Not sure if the documentaries are sourced from superior Pal Vhs tape sources to the american ones, and anyway you can get these docs for free in torrent land or from someone on these boards for blanks and postage.

I know the PAL release for when star wars ruled the world for instance has been put out in a superior fan release already.

I still have not decided which was the worst Lucas film of 2008 Indiana Jones IV or Clone Wars.

Indy won the Golden Raspberry, But Clone Wars was even a lamer excuse for a movie pretending to be a star wars film.

Which had worse dialogue.  Clone wars had "skyguy, stinky and artooie".  Indiana Jones had "the space between the spaces"  lol.

The Clone Wars animated series that is the new one of course not the genddy one, Is split between being an animated version of the dark horse comics republic clone wars stories with ahsoka thrown in and a video game.

Still it is not really trying to be on par with the oot, it is a seperate thing really An EU offshoot childrens show.

That tried to recall the fun of the old series succeeded somewhat while mostly stumbling along the same bad path of the prequels.  The prequels whowever were supposed to be the back story to the original star wars trilogy.  And came off as amatuerish fan wankery unfit to be the true origins of the saga.  And this whole thing of making it anakin or vaders story 1-6 is just a farce.  Star Wars was always from the Adventures of Luke Skywalker until phantom menace went before the cameras for filiming.

Just be Thankful George kept the "i've got a bad feeling about this" out of Raiders of the Lost Ark.  I remember reading or seeing something in a documentary where he was Going to have Indiana Jones say this in the movie, sort of like the Wilhelm scream being in Both indiana jones and star wars series.

The prequels sucked because

A. The scripts were horrible

B. The directing Sucked

C. Over reliance on cgi to the detriment of the story

D. Hayden Christensen

They were largely not as collaborative pieces as star wars 77 and empire strikes back.  It was on Return of the Jedi Lucas pretty much was writing the stories himself and all But Directed the film through Marquand.

Kasden did a quick tidying up on this script but had little to do with the stories ideas or story meetings.  Remember he a director at the time and only did a quick re-write because he felt loyal to his past Relationship with George, and George gave him a stab a writing Raiders and Empire Strikes Back.  Which to this very day are considered to be 2 of the finest scripts in genre fiction in hollywood history.

Okay Spielberg directed the Pre Viz for the lightsaber duel on Mustafar, But beyond that i don't know of George asking anybody to collaborate in his circle of friends outside his company of yes men and visual artists and effects technicians.

Even if Revenge of the Sith is by far and large critically and received by fans of the prequels as the best of the 3 the acting is horrible.  The Lightsaber duel was pretty awesome minus the rediculous riding over the lava on droids part, and was really trying to be a redo of duel of the fates from menace.  But Haydens " You underestimate my power"  was beyond bad acting.  And then of course you have the Emperor and Yoda acting like they are in a loony tunes cartoon.  And then Vader walking like Frankenstein and goin N000000000000000000!!!.   Nearly as bad as Shia swinging with monkeys like Tarzan in indiana jones 4, or the flying in a nuked fridge,lol.  Indiana had a nice three mile ride through the air and just gets up and dust himself off.

The clones look like a cartoon and fake because they are all CGI.  The voice over work by the Jango Fett actor "right away, sir"  is also awful.  I cannot believe Lucas saw fit to redub Boba Fett in Empire Strikes Back with this Clown.

Grievous Coughing too much like a bad villain out of inspector Gadget or something, the wheely thingy he rides is obviously only to sell toys. 

They build up a character like Count Dooku to get killed at the very beginning of the film and his character was completely wasted in the prequels.

Midi Chlorian Subplot, the whills and the force ghost thing and qui gons fate in the force not explained. 

Why did Obi Wan dissapear bodily into the force in star wars and then qui gon does not dissapear in Phantom Menace.

The prequels are such bad movies in a way they are entertaining in a morbid sort of way like watching a train wreck or a plan nine from outer space type of film.

The prequel trilogy is a bad remake of the oot without any of the charm or magic of the originals.  In short a giant pile of shit.  Still Lucas became a Billionaire because he has fans who drink the Lucas kool aide off of the prequels, and the bad 4th indiana jones made him further rich.  When these films are so notoriously bad they should have been shunned like the star wars holiday special.

The only film to really bomb since Howard the Duck, Radioland Murders, More American Graffiti or willow was the 2008 Clone Wars movie.  Everybody hated that shit film that was a proof of concept for a television series.  Lets take a network animated pilot and put it on the big screen.  Cause you know Pixar is making big bucks lets cash in on some of that success.

Maybe the Live action tv star wars series will be cancelled and moved from network to network like Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

So he thinks its about special effects and not story.  He clearly does not understand star trek much less the real star wars films.  He is taking his cues from the star wars prequels, and the modern George Lucas.  I hate to say it but hunter6 was right.

So far this movie is reminding me of bad sci fi movies like wing commander and starship troopers, not star trek.

Reminds me of Bayformers and the awful Indiana Jones IV.  The Design is horrendous and the cgi is rediculous.

If the dialogue is anything like Transformers, The orci trek comic it deserves a capital F for fail.

I will stick to getting the remastered movies 1-6 theatrical editions and skip this all together.

I loved the George Lucas raped our childhood clip in better than original youtube video quality and the Gary kurtz and Dale pollock pieces.

What i cannot believe if that it took 10 years for it to sink in that the prequels suck.  and only know is it sinking in that Crystal Skulls sucked.  Its ImDB rating has gone way down and the Raiders won still almost has a perfect score.

Anybody Celebrating the Tenth anniversary of the Phantom menace  this year?

There was a  celebration for the 10th anniversary of star wars which was even in 1987 already recognized as a true modern classic.

the prequels were popular garbage cinema that rode the coatails of the legendary original trilogy.  I doubt that 30 years from now if the human race is still around they will be celebrating the Phantom Menace as a classic film that changed movie history.

The series i will admit is somewhat entertaining, if you take it with a grain of salt and distance it from the star wars film series and compare it against these other kids cartoons airing on tv in the us at the moment.

Still the animation style even though they improved it is still awkward and wooden and video game-ish and awful in my honest opinion.  And i love Jennifer Hale's work in mass effect and kotor but here she comes off as annoying due to the french accent.  Nothing against french people just does not fit the character of an alien jedi.

The Genddy series was better at least in How grievious was portrayed, they added that stupid cough in revenge of the shit. I mean Sith,lol.

Plus the first half of the episodes have been pulled from free viewing on the Lucas site to boost sales for the dvd release and to get people to pay for the itunes in the duration.

Fuck that, i am not paying premium top dollar for this crap.  Not when i can spend it on better tv sci fi or animation elsewhere.

You want to pay for more Lucasized CGI garbage, go right ahead.  I prefer traditional animation.  And if a show or movie is made cgi it has to be up to snuff.  Lucas fails on almost all points.  It only looks stunning in blu ray on a HD display with the amped up color saturation, like video games are these days.  I don't mind video games or star wars videogames, but the original movies were not video game like until 1997, and of course the entire prequels were like a video game footage.

Just like when i paid to see Crystal Skull for a movie film and got a 2 hour video game without being able to control the action.

I think people might be actually somewhat okay with the prequels as spinoff EU material if George Lucas treatment of the original 3 star wars films was taken out of the equation.

But after the 2006 non anamorphic transfers people are going to hate everything George does to the ninth degree until those films are given the treatment that they deserve and as the film industry expects and the fans.

I will not buy or support another Lucasfilm product unless it be a completely remastered and restored version of the theatrical release of the original trilogy from their original film elements.

Its nothing personal i don't hate George Lucas as a human being, but i have a right as a consumer to demand higher quality products for my money.

When sub par b movies and pornos get better treatment on dvd than the original motion picture star wars trilogy that made Lucas rich, you know something is fundamentally wrong.

Nobody seams to care what the fans even want.  Millions of people worldwide want to see these films and show them to their children in the best quality possible, and what do we get for being loyal to George Lucas for 2 or 3 decades a slap in the face with the gout.

Yeah chewie was Han's Slave.  Give me a break.  Yeah thats why Chewie was like an Uncle to Han's children , and he cried when Chewie died.  I know this comes from the EU but most of the Han Solo Backstory does.  Read the Brian Daley and Ann Crispin trilogies.  I think in one of the AC Crispin books Han says he did'nt want Chewies Life debt and is annoyed with his following him around.  But then Chewie saves his life and they become partners in the smuggling business.

Hey at least it did not end up in the finished version of episode III.  But Han Solo was supposed to be raised on Chewies world as his brother as George changed the backstory.

originally the first time they met was when Han saved Chewie from being a slave When Han was a cadet in the Imperial Academy.  And Han was raised by Wookiees just not chewies family.  He is kind of based on Tarzan that was George lucas idea.

They never explained why Han Solo understands the wookiee language or other alien speech.  Or why he is such a softy when it come to creatures being enslaved.  I believe the idea of being able to undestand multiple languages and having an alien friend  was transfered to him from Obi Wan Kenobi when early in the scripts ben was a dr doolittle type character and guiness would refuse to play the character that way he wanted the character to have some dignity.

For a somewhat immoral person Han Solo has morals.  He is more than meets the eye as kenobi says in the radio drama.  Not just any pirate starship captain for hire would have a wookiee as co pilot and first mate of the millenium falcon.  Nor would he have saved Lukes bacon above the death star if he was a completely immoral person.

There is supposed to be abiguity about his character.  That's why having Greedo shoot first completely changes his character.  Hes supposed to start out as a guy who lives for Himself and then he becomes a less selfish individual at the end of the movie.

Besides being like Han's best friend and Brother Chewie is also like the Family dog or pet, even if he is extremely intelligent for one.  Again Chewie was based on the Lucas dog Indiana an alaskan malamute who was also very intelligent and almost man size when he rode in georges car like his co pilot,lol.

Then the man in the hat got the same name as George Lucas dog. You know a certain Indiana Jones character who was ruined in the last movie,lol.

He is right that the new Indiana Jones and Star Wars sucked, and were devoid of magic.   But i could care less about horror films as i am not a fan of the genre.  I like science fiction and fantasy films.

He is also right that the new friday the 13th is a joke, and someone called it gore porn.  That is essentially what these movies are now after hostel and the saw sequels.

The new Star trek is good in at least paramount is finally putting some money back into the franchise. 

Even if you hate the JJ film it is exciting to be a trek fan because of the new movie we get all 6 classic films on blu ray in their theatrical versions, and a completely restored wrath of khan from the original negative.

Plus there is room for us who grew up with the next generation and reruns of classic trek, as well as those still living when they originally aired in the sixties.  There should also be room for the newcomers brought in by the jj film, Trek needs new blood.  If the jj film is positive and inspires these young people even if i don't like all the changes i can live with it.

Plus lets at least give JJ abrams a little credit he understands popular culture and fiction and has been connected to four hit tv series.  A lot more than you can say for the modern George Lucas who brought us the lackluster prequels of star wars from 1999-2005, desstroyed the old movies in 1997 and 2004, and delivered the turds of 2008 Indiana Jones 4 and Clone Wars.

If this film is sucessful is means more star trek films and television shows, it also means more classic trek related fiction in the books and possibly the first time the old films and tv shows get the proper treatment even if just to make Paramount money.

I was sad Enterprise and before that the next generation film series was cancelled but does that mean the spirit of genes vision died, i don't think so.  An ideal or symbol cannot be killed.  And the world we live in now needs some positive thinking about the future and less cynics because the financial world and everything we hold to be sacred as Americans is coming apart at the seams.  But trek is not just for us Gene gave it to the world.

The biggest laugh i had lately was reading the Bruce Greenfield  piece where he compared Chris Pine to the new Bond Actor Daniel Craig.  I liked Brosnan better than Craig, but this comparison is not even fair to Craigs acting ability.  Pine is an unproven unknown from a movie most people have not even seen and he is getting way too much attention.

If the Trek Pictures bombs it will probably kill off trek.  But it won't hurt pines career.  If it is sucessful he will be typecast as James Siberius Kirk, i mean Tiberius,lol.

Trek as it is no longer sells.  If JJ can renew the product so people start buying the books and watching the shows again then trek will be resurrected once again.  It won't be my generations Trek or my fathers.  

Right now Star Wars novels are always ending up as bestsellers.  The videogames sell well and the Clone Wars cartoon is the biggest hit cartoon newtork has ever had on its hands. So much so a second season was recently given the go ahead. The star wars brand is selling well and is strong.  Not the same for trek.  Although the Comics have sold modestly.  The new comic wriiten by Orci is probably the first one to ever sell out in recent memory.  someone out there wants this movie. There is an audience for it.  Paramount may have little respect from the masses but they don't lack business smarts.   They understand overall it is a business and a way to make money.  and JJ made no mistake by invoking the name of Lucas Star Wars brand saying he wants this trek to be as sucessful.

Now that they have announced Alan Dean Foster as the guy writing the novelization, i may go out and buy the book and read it.  Alan Dean Foster is a respected science Fiction Author of original fiction as well as having Written the novelization for Lucas Star Wars, its novel sequel Splinter of the Minds Eye.  And he wrote the Story for Star Trek Phase II: in thy Image.  That became Star Trek the motion Picture.  and much of what he wrote remains into the movie in Livingston's script. And he wrote those star trek logs novels based on the animated trek series.

I saw the movie in the theater and both me and my bro agreed Ox the retard was pretty much the Jar Jar Binks of Crystal Skull.

I don't know what i hated more him or Mac the triple agent.  Seriously this movie was as dumb as movies get and was a self parody of Indiana Jones. 

Indy surviving a nuclear blast in a fridge and riding through the air in it for a mile when it crashed and hit the ground.  He gets up and dusts himself off like nothing happened,lol.

The horrible opening with the Cgi gophers/prairie dogs.  Seriously i was looking for Bill Murrys Caddyshack character to show up.

Totally fake Cgi Jungle instead of going and shooting on Location.  For a movie that was supposed to be shot old school this movie was full of cgi.

Cate Blanchett as Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle, enough said.  

I'm surprised Lucas, Spielberg and Koepp still have jobs after this great turd of 2008 that somehow grossed almost 800 million dollars worldwide.  Trash cinema must be enjoyed by the entire human race then and i thought it was just us dumb Americans.

The things they got right were shooting on film and having Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.  Returning to the Spirit of Raiders, and having Marian come back.   But the script sucked, the acting barely was passable except for Harrison. 

Would it have been possible to have someone else write if not direct this movie?  and why for the love of god have Lucas involved.  It used to be a good thing to have him involved on a movie, now you just know whatever he puts his name on is going to suck.

Raiders and Last Crusade were good because they had good screenplays.  Lawrence Kasden and Jeffrey Boam penned those.  I mean if they tried for twenty years to come up with a good script and a plossible mcguffin, maybe they should have just let things be.  But they saw the dollar signs. that is all there is to it.  They knew ahead of time this would be one of the most profitable motion pictures ever made.

The funny thing is what ended up on screen as Crystal Skull was better than all the other scripts that were thrown out or saved and patched into this one.  This was a patchwork script of half a dozen writers, we end up with a patchwork film that only works as a nostalgia vehicle in those scenes that were good or worked.

Frank Darabount's script had some really bad and cheesy scenes in it too.  I mean i know he directed Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption and wrote a pretty good script for young indy.  But ever since he did that bad b movie with that punisher actor i lost all faith in him as a writer or director.  He got lucky with Shawshank, lets just face facts.

But at least to me 60% of the movie was just plain bad.  Indiana Jones deserved better than that.  This movie in some ways was better and in others worse than Temple of Doom the worst of the old trilogy.

I rank it fourth overall.

We all know the prequels of star wars and Indiana Jones IV are far from being the worst films ever made.  There are plenty of worse movies.  But the Name Lucas or Spielberg in the old days being attached to a movie with a few exceptions meant better than their competition and a head above the rest.  There films were just so damn good, and entertaining and they put out a quality product.  Remember when the Lucasfilm name was synonymous with quality.  Then fast forward to the present in which the 2004 and 2006 sets of star wars are a joke that passed quality checking.

I don't begrudge Lucas and Spielberg the fun they had in making this film, it is very clear if you watch the behind the scenes material.  But big names like Lucas and Spielberg could have afforded a couple more rewrites on this script to tighten up the dialogue and take out all the stupid parts that ruined the movie.  Also Spielberg should have gone with his gut instinct on the Aliens he clearly knows his audience for Indiana Jones.  He also should have shot the film old school like he intended and used models and matte paintings like he said he was going to do.

I feel like Steven was forced to do this movie out of an obligation to George and to the fans.  He decided to film it and get it out of the way.  It was a nuisance to go everywhere he went and hear "whens the next indy movie coming out".  Like he said we the fans wanted it.

I personally would have hated to be Steven and not really be the boss on this picture and having Lucas backseat direct the movie the whole way.  In the end the parts of the movie that worked were probably Steven's doing and the bad parts were all Lucas.

There is a possibility the next one if made could be really good if they fix what did not work on this movie.  Remember the second in the old trilogy had some good moments too but ended up being overall crap.  I just don't know if audiences want an Indiana Jones V with Shia as Henry "indiana" Jones the III, in the title roll and if possible a small role for Harrison.  If the thing gets made before Lucas, Spielberg and Ford give up the ghost. For one thing Mutt would have to drop that nickame and assume the title of Indiana.  That is if he even changed his name to Jones.  Otherwise its an entirely seperate film series called the adventures of Mutt Williams, the only connection would be that Indy was his father.  I mean mutts a greeser and not an adventure seeker or acheologist.  His character would be chasing girls and racing hotrods or riding fast motorcycles or something.

I always hated this Character Xizor though it was great when he got owned by Vader.

Xizor was a pussy who even Luke Could have probably defeated in a fight if not for his fembot.

Vader could have taken him easily in a duel. 

It was ludicrous for Xizor to even try to take down Vader, the Empire or the Emperor. 

Sure the underoworld would destroy both the rebels and the empire and Xizor would rule the universe, blah blah blah. 

The Empire had enough troops to wipe out all the bounty hunters and completely destroy the black sun organization.

After all the last head of black Sun before Xizor was killed by Maul under Sidious orders.

But if you rationalize with the prequel continuity and exetended EU.  Why did'nt Sidious just pull out his lightsaber kill Luke Skywalker with it. If not that at least a duel.  Of course since they were filmed out of sequence Sidious is not going to whip out his lightsaber in ROTJ.

Yeah well its nice that they updated the encyclopedia, but where the hell are the updated versions of the chronology and guide to characters.

The second edition of chronology came out in 2005 using mostly 2004 info and the EU has expanded by leaps and bounds since then.  I mean you know five years is a lot of time for the comics, the videogames, cartoons and novels to progress the story after the new jedi order.  We had the bug trilogy, the legacy novel series.  and Fate of the Jedi will see print of its first volumes before the bridge novel Blood Oath is published.  The other bridge novel to the new series Millenium Falcon is already out.

The New Darth Bane book which is the third book will correspond to what happens in fate of the jedi, so will shadows of mindor and of course fate of the jedi leaps us forward to the legacy comics era and Cade Skywalker.

Who knows if They will show the stories of the skywalker heirs.  Ben Skywalker as a jedi knight.  More of Jaina Solo as a Jedi and Eventually Allana Solo as a jedi.

Which leads to emperor fel and his daughter and the imperial Knights,  probably jaina.  And Ben Skywalkers line obviously leads to Cade because if not his name would be cade solo.

Luke Skywalker obviously dies wheather of old age or at the hands of the Sith is to be determined.  Which leads to a resurgent Sith and a weakened Jedi Presence.  And the Sith had not ruled the galaxy since Palpatine and Vader.

Which leads me to believe these new Sith maybe be an offshoot of the Bane sith cult that apparently is hiding in the unknown regions.

I have to finish the final 3 books of the legacy series to get caught up for the lead in to Fate of the Jedi.  I hope fate of the Jedi does not suck like Legacy mostly did.  at least what i have read of leagacy so far.  I have to read Fury, Revelation and Invincible.

I basically know how it ends but much of the action and story is left out of the spoilers.

In George Lucas canon Anakin restored balance to the force by doing away with the evil sith.

In the non Lucas canon EU that obviously does not apply.  Since the Sith come back to power again and again and again as the baddies.

 The one possible exception of original bad guys being  the vong.  and the days of the imperials trying to return to their glory days, before that in the bantam era.  Having formal generals and moffs try to destroy the new republic with their super weapon of the week.

The funny thing about the Vong invasion was that it was lifted from an alien invasion idea in truce at Bakura.

But the original aliens invade and attack idea was pitched to Marvel for their comics line before the license expired.  They were also set to do Dark Empire which obviously stalled and was published by dark horse many years later.

By now the Dark Skywalker thing and cloned sith/dark jedi has become old hat. 

The same with Superweapons, the same with the Imperials and the Sith and Jedi.  There is nothing original at all but only rehashes and clones of cloned stories.

They are going to make a New Jedi order comic which features a character other than the main star wars cast from the movies.  But it is only one new diversion from the whole Jedi continued storyline.  The others were the Republic Clone Trooper books.  But now with the Clone Wars animation, before that the game republic cammando, and before that the prequels i am sick to death of the clones too.  And for the love of god i hope we don't see more of those Roger roger robots or Jar Jar.

I mean they can have a moon fall on Chewie and kill him but not a useless sidekick like Jar Jar.  Jar Jar even gets a cameo in Return of the Jedi, and so does Hayden thanks to a certain Mister Lucas.

You Would not believe it possible but i am sick of the mandaloreans to thanks to Karen Traviss.  There origins used to be pretty cool and mysterious and Boba Fett was cool now its just so lame.

They even made Fett into a worthless and useless character.

It is like how J.R.R. Tolkien and his heir Christopher Tolkien Said The Silmarillion Should be read first. The hobbit second and the lord of the rings as the last piece.  But even though the silmarillion was written first it was published last, and the hobbit came out first. 

I read them in  the order they were published in.

I was introduced to the hobbit as a child,  read rings as a teenager and later i read the silmarillion.

Just like i started the Narnia series with The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.  I care less for the chronological method as it seems quite an unnatural way to read the books if they were not published in that order.

Whenever i watch the star wars films i always watch the originals first,  Then the prequels if i even get a desire to see them again which i don't.

Oedipus on the other hand i only read the first play Rex or "the king"  is the best out of all three of the theban plays.  Sophocles was not the originator of the story. 

His version is the only one we have a complete copy of and the earlier work by an unnamed greek poet is only fragmentary. 

But the historians and mythologists did enough research to establish Oedipus sleeping with His mother originates with Sophocles and is not in the original version. 

Supposedly according to one scholar the anachronistic view started by Freud was not held by the ancient greeks.  Oedipus sleeping with his mother was not the key movement and  shock of the story.  It was the murder of his own father that the ancients greeks found to be an unpardenable crime.

Luke never touched a drop supposedly until what when he was going to get married to mara jade, and went to a bar/cantina with Han.  After the Vong war i bet you he became a heavy alchoholic.lol.

Now Han going to a bar and getting into a barfight with Chewie by his side after an all night drinking binge is totally his style.  Luke was  the goody goody, Self rightious prude.  the innocent farm boy, the pure hero.  A least before he left Tatooine.  Han was always a shades of grey character while Luke was the pure white, and vader the all black.  Speaking of White and Black or good vs evil. 

Empire hinted at Luke's darkness.

Han Solo the world weary smuggler, gambler, thief cheat and con artist.  The Cynic.  The cocky guy who thinks he has all the answers.

Luke the innocent and nieve farmboy who refusing the call to adventure has is thrust upon him by the death of his aunt and uncle and the arrival of the droids with the stolen plans, and Ben Kenobi's revelation that Luke's father was a jedi hinting at greater things for Luke than being a moisture farmer.

The rough cut or assembly cut by spielberg was done on a moviela, not sure if i misspelled that. 

Considering the cgi was not shot live action except for certain elements and created in a computer.  It is far easier for them to work in the digital realm in terms of editing, when a film starts out as digital because it does not have to be scanned in.  not only do they cut costs there, but also they don't have to go to a film processing labs they have quick turnaround on shots and film costs more now than digital.  In the past it was the opposite.

Not sure what digital resolution  the cgi effects on phantom menace were rendered, but the physical old style opticals and model shots done on film and the live action Photography would look better if they went back and did a 4k scan.  Again i am not aware of the HD resolution Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were shot on, but there is no way it dupicates the resolution of the oneg on even the phantom menace, much less any of the original trilogy films. 

As for them looking better in digital projection i don't doubt it since they were captured on video.  From what i have read there is some generation loss from taking a digital movie and then printing it back to traditional 35mm film.  This seemed to be for the most part retified on revenge of the sith because the HD Camera bugs had been worked out.  But i saw Clones in the the theaters on film and i can tell you first hand it looked like shit.  Ebert saw it in both film and later dlp.  Guess which review was better.

Sure some  projectionists should be fired because they don't know how to handle a film print properly , and theater owners who show a film with a bad setup should not be allowed to show a print.  I saw Indy IV in less than spectacular condition.  This was first run.  It had several scratches and what looked like was heavy dupe grain, the fine grain detail was nice i had no problem with that.  

The colors looked muted and yellow, perhaps a bad print. The sound was too loud and was not well defined the surrounds were fucked.  This is a multimillion dollar theater,  but a shopping mall one.  So i guess what did i expect. Hey at least the film was centered properly and shown on a 2:35:1 proportioned screen.  Before they bought the new screen they would crop the wider films.  Since most of the films they show are 1:85:1 or whatever they shoot in these days i frackin don't know,lol.

Maybe the focus was bad or something.

I have noticed that a lot of modern films are a victim of the loudness war and their soundtracks are a mess.  I totally look back to the days when the stereo mixes on film were well, mixed well i guess is what you would say.  Then some of the first 5.1 tracks in theaters were really excellent as well whether dolby or dts. 

Some people have had problems with some of the new films audio when watching at home or in the theater like Casino Royale, the Dark Knight.

The older stereo mixes balanced out the dialogue, the music and the sound effects well so they complemented each other.  Now we get tracks where the sound effects are too loud and drowning out everything else.

I'm very pissed at Kyoto Animation for stringing us all along into believing there will be a second season of Haruhi Suzumiya.  Which came out in 2006, and it is now 2009.  And what the fuck do we get a rebroadcast of the first series in japan.

Also 2 complete crap animes imho.  Munto and some other one was just announced.  And if they ever frickin finish Clannad After Story which is crap to the original in my opinion, will they fucking start work on haruhi already?

Also they fired the original director of Haruhi who left kyoani and went to another company to do Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens.

They fired him after the fourth episode of Lucky Star.  Even though he is the guy who came up with the super popular Haruhi and Lucky Star opening and closing animations and dances.

And Sean do you know when they hell is the theatrical release date for the Second new Evangelion movie?

It was supposed to come out last year and is still not out yet.

1.0 You are not alone theatrical release is slightly different than the dvd.  Anno tightened up some shots, and had some of them completely reanimated or augmented with new cgi on the dvd.  The bootleg is the only source for the true theatrical version.  Gainax is also doing the same thing with the Gurren Lagann movie on dvd.

As a purist the hand drawn cel animation which was done on the old evangelion theatrical films i found to be better than the digitally animated and painted ones.  But at least this time perhaps the story will have a true conclusion and a hopefull if not entirely happy ending.

If you think the well known english dubbing on Dragonball is bad you should track down the harmony gold dub, lol.  It was really stupid, but in a kind of fun way if you like those voice actors.
