Yeah I caught it and literally by the time I was typing my reply it was edited out.

Qui-Gon might be my favorite. Or Darth Maul. Can't decide.

Thanks guys.
Well the only reason I would think they would, or even Lucas, is that I know a lot of them love the EU so maybe they would look it these projects. (Even though technically this isn't EU haha)
I think you'd be surprised how many ILMers and fx artists are fans of this project and others of its kind. :D
TPM is my favorite prequel film. I'm serious.
I think you should be ady's matte artist on-loan from X fx shop. :p
edit: wow. I just barely caught it looks like. lol. Tis gone!

Stupid Photobucket.
Damn that is just......bravo Venal. That's right before the pan down correct?
lol. I think he's just doing it to show the effect of it. So we can see it. Heck, it could work if slash marks were all that appeared. In fact, vaderios may have made a mock up of that some time ago. I know someone here did.

this is how i always invisioned the sarlaac pit fight. if luke is hitting the guys with his lightsaber there should be some sort of evidence that he's hitting them and not just they're falling backwards like they r being pulled by a rope.
ever since ROTS i knew, this is how it should be.
Well if they can show Darth Maul sticking his saber through Qui-Gon in TPM, then they can show this. This is sped up too.
By the way, how much camera movement are in these shots? I need to watch ROTJ again.

Oh God. Someone please fix that Falcon matte behind Han and Lando. Maybe add a dude into the painting behind the Falcon to blend the "Hey, I'm an actor walking in front of a bluescreen" look. Maybe have him working on that B-Wing cockpit in the background? I really dislike it when Lando starts walking toward it.
Yeah, I have to say that that matte is pretty sad. Its really sad when you think that the only scene with the full-sized Falcon ended up on the cutting room floor, and the only times we see it are either model shots or paintings with no life or true dimension for them. I do hope that Ady can get the models to redo these shots.
I think the camera is locked off too so that would make it easier.
I know the DS2's size was discussed earlier along with the laser.
Another part of that i'm wondering about is: this huge new DS larger and more powerful than the planet-destroying DS1 now destroys...........
.....one ship at a time.
Oooh. The rebels should really be scared now.
Maybe the laser takes out an entire wing of the fleet or something? Makes the rebels situation more dire.
Oh cool.
I follow the ESB:R pretty closely but don't recall: has ady gone as far as adding live-action footage of extras and comping them into shots? I just wonder because it really helps sell matte shots if you can add depth and hide seams by putting extras into backgrounds.

About the vote in TPM, we didn't see the actual vote, we just saw Amidala calling for a vote, and the other Senators agreed. The vote itself took place when Amidala was on her way back to Naboo (she discusses the nominees for the position of Supreme Chancellor with Palpatine before she decides to leave, and congratulates Palpatine with his election after the battle of Naboo).
Concerning Qui-Gon: I thought Liam Neeson was one of the best things about TPM. As much as I would like it, I just don't think it's possible to put him in AOTC and ROTS. He could appear as a ghost in ROTS, but I think it would still feel tacked on. I'm all for making Qui-Gon's body disappear when he dies in Obi-Wan's arms. The explanation for why some Jedi disappear when they die and others don't, could be their state of mind. Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda and even Anakin were at peace when they died. The Jedi dying AOTC or ROTS didn't die like that, they died violent and sudden deaths.
Now, I'm not going to crap on this idea. It's bold and ambitious. And it is "radical". However, it would be hellish work.
On another website, I participated in a thread where a bloke was following the linear format where we didn't return to a planet. Basically, the planet was just blockaded at the start. The film begins in space with the TF ship in pursuit of the Queen's ship. They later go back to Naboo at the end and that's when we see the invasion and end ground battle.
I really like the idea of making Dooku a worthy successor to Qui-Gon in the "maverick-jedi" field.
Don't make him a sith. make him a jedi dude who's figured crap out about the sith in the republic, he kidnaps the chancellor/sidious hoping to end the war and expose him, and then off with his head.
I've lurked here since there was a debate in the forum about an alternative cut someone swore they saw in theatres with different sound fx, scenes, etc.
That was sometime between TPM and AOTC I think. I've been hooked since.

With all due respect, Ady, and apologies for what might have come across more negatively than it was intended, but I don't think you can compare where we are now to where Lucas was in 1975. I work in the industry and my ex works for Framestore, so I know as well as anyone what can or can't be done, as do many of us. I'm talking about us here on the forums, with our limited resources, make alterations to these movies. And some things can't be done with what we have now, meaning some of the mock-ups we've been doing.
And as for Lucas not having anyone to do his special effects, and him purpose-building ILM, yes, we know that story. But you make it sound like they invented visual effects, which they didn't. There wasn't a single technique used on the FX in Star Wars that was new; ILM didn't invent a single thing. I'm sure some people will gasp at me for that, but it's a fact. Not matte paintings, travelling mattes, motion control photography, animation elements (eg sabres and lasers) in live action - not one invention. The early ILM fellas, love their work as I have all my life, didn't do anything more than collate all the techniques that had been used before into one dedicated house. Yes, they revolutionised FX, but they weren't masters of invention in that period. Dykstraflex may have been developed more for Star Wars, but motion control was around for a decade before that.
Maybe I oversimplified when I said some things can't be done. I was more meaning they probably can't be done sufficiently well, given the time and money we have to devote to them. New sequences are all well and good, but match-moving is painfully difficult when you're dealing with shots that weren't intended to be FXed afterwards.
Venal, I understand. I figured you were in the industry based on your work and terminology. You work for DN or MPC?
And of course a still is one thing while something in motion, matchmoved, etc, is something else entirely;however, all I was suggesting is lets think big AND small and then work out the HOW. What matters right now is what makes ROTJ a better story. Frankly, some new mattes, subtle changes to dialogue, and new fx(all doable as ady demonstrated) will go along way.
So lets think small and big for now. Reality will catch up soon enough.

SSWR:"Angel, those pics of 3PO in Jabbas palace are stunning! It's feels more like ESB as far as the cinematography goes...could this be achievable in ROTJ:R? I sure hope so..."
Don't we all wish it were achievable. But not the level of enhancement Angel has made. Those changes would have to be made to every single frame, match-moved, etc. It's incredibly difficult, and virtually impossible to get right. The lighting, contrast and colour of a shot can be tinkered with and greatly improved much more easily but when it comes to specific elements being changed frame by frame, it's nigh impossible. I think Angel's mock-ups are really great, some of the changes are beautiful, but they stand as more as a "Look what could've been" rather than what can be done.
While I'm a realist too, I also realize my sights weren't set high enough when it came to changes. So I like the philosophy of bingowings: Aim high and the reality of what can be done will rise too. Not as high, but higher than if we confined ourselves only to what we assume could be done.
I'm still amazed at all that has already been done by non-professionals.
SSWR excellent video. I love the 3PO shrine and the imperial helmets in the village.
vaderios, I love that opening of the window placing Jabba in the shadows effect. It adds so much to make it look like a place instead of a set. Bravo!
The subtle stuff is so much fun because you can really take things amd make them better without banging you over the head with it.
Weequay's eyes also very cool.

Oh man how I love the fires. Would there be any way to incorporate any forest fire footage or even bomb drops from existing films to show the imperials just going all out to wipe out the ewoks and their habitat?

Which existing shot do you mean, shaner? I'll try anything once :-)
Well was that McQuarrie painting for the shuttle flyover when they first go to the planet? I assumed it was. You could just take the mtn. peaks in the background and add them to the existing landscape shot used for the flyover, as well as the planet and sky.
I think vaderios already added the dish to it.
Dang. That is so cool. You could always do a half and half and add the sky and mtns to the existing shot of the foreground trees.
somethingStarWarsRelated: LOL! at the 3PO bit in your new video. LOL. That was great! And it is perfectly in line with his character.
bingo, awesome stuff with the wookies in the briefing room. And I'll take your command center mock up just for the use of the cool set from The Black Hole.
