yes! the chinstrap has changed. i was going to say that the lines weren't an inconsistency on the helmet, as the image was flipped, thus everything would be sort of inconsistent (trick question!).

just a question to the general more learned masses. i heard GL made an initial cut of ESB when he was mid-breakdown which was overall perceived to be terrible. upon reflection he agreed, so Marcia and Kershner made their cut which was the final item.

a) is this true?

Yes, except it was Paul Hirsch and Kersh, not Marcia.

What was the "fatal flaw" of the Prequels if you think they sucked? (aka. Let's take a break from hating on the blu-rays)

That they're completely unnecessary until you get to ROTS. That movie is like an anthology of bullet points that should have been hit in all 3 movies, and it suffers for it.

But that's why many people liked it better than the others - it gave them what they were expecting out of the first 2 movies.

I still maintain that TPM is the best of the prequels, since, while it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of Star Wars, it has the most cohesive story of all the prequels.

I agree about TPM being the best of the three. ROTS was too crammed with things Lucas should have spread out across the whole trilogy.

Damn, that's a mighty fine idea bingo. Never thought of that.

In George's revised rough draft, he had the jedi say the TF doesn't have long distance tracking and Obi-Wan then suggests, "only the republic does", suggesting he was worried there might be a conspiracy inside the republic to help the TF in their pursuit.

This takes place right after the Sio-Bibble transmission aboard the queen's ship.

Now it is Qui-Gon saying it was bait to establish a connection trace.

So what if we now have that dialogue and then the heores discard 3po's coverings and then they find a tracking device and they're like "oh shit. We're running out of time".

That could up the ante for the heroes to get off Tatooine/Geonosis/whatever before they are found.

Kinda mimics the original SW with tracking devices without being too copycat and also answers the question: how the hell did Maul find them?

The official line is Amidala-decoy answering the transmission from Bibble was enough to establish a trace but that's not really credible especially following Obi-Wan's "send no reply of any kind" command.

I like your tracking device idea alot.

I'm of two minds when it comes to the prequels. There is my idealistic side, which imagines something entirely different for the prequels. It would be more adult and serious.

But then there is my realistic side, which realizes that even the OOT had some lighter moments to make the serious stuff work. It's also a matter of what can be done. Realistically, yes we could replace Jar jar with 3PO, but could it be done effectively enough to make it better?

Would toning down some of Jar Jars more absurd antics and parhaps giving him a more meaningful backstory and character arc in TPM be more gratifying as a whole than a shoehorned 3PO?

One of the problems I have with the prequels is how small it made the galaxy seem. 3PO made by Anakin, R2 owned by the queen, yada, yada, yada.

Hey, you know what? What if 3PO gets his covers lost in the beginning of the film and then he's all wires and stuff to match the existing footage of him in TPM? Maybe Anakin wants to help him out and somehow(through fan edit magic!) he gets new coverings?

Hmmm...to quote Indy in Last Crusade: "I don't know I'm making it up as I go." :P

3PO replacing TC-14 has appeared in many a rewrite throughout fan history.

Maybe that's also why 3PO has that one silver leg in the OT? It's the last of his old Trade Fed coverings?

But I like him being that TF character.

But replacing him with Jar Jar? Not sure. That's alot of work replacing one annoying character with another.

But why would 3PO end up with the jedi on Naboo? Maybe they run across him during the invasion planet side, think he might have valuable information, and take him along for the ride?

I love all the radical ideas in this thread.

The best and most viable, in my opinion, is to include Coruscant (or Had Abbadon or Granicus or whatever other "Imperial home-world" name you want to go with) in Return of the Jedi somehow.

In fact, I think it'd be pretty neat to be able to bill a new edit as including all the features which were eventually removed from the final film - Imperial home-world, Han's death, Leia becoming ruler of her people, Luke metaphorically walking off into the sunset, Wookiees instead of Ewoks etc.

For now, let's stick with Coruscant. Personally, I'd like to see it not under Rebel control just yet. I think the point of it would be to ratchet up the tension further by bringing our heroes into the belly of the beast, the center of Imperial activity and government.

I've done a few very basic mock-ups to show what I mean. If the opening crawl introduces the planet as the Imperial capital, I think seeing the Imperials "at home", not out on the frontier, would help make the stakes seem a lot higher and give a greater sense of tension than the re-introduction of the Death Star.

Incidentally, the blue moon in front of Coruscant could easily be renamed "Endor".

Wow. Is that smaller planet Endor?

What if you combined the Endor matte from the top image with Coruscant from the middle? Then put the DS2 on the right side?

You could even re-edit the dialogue with Vader and Jerjjerrod. They would now be talking on a Coruscant interior landing platform in the Imperial Palace.

Jerjjerky: I assure you lord Vader the station will be operational as planned and the moon cleared for settlement.

Take the emperor arrival footage and make that Vader's arrival instead. He's returning to Coruscant. Then you cut to Vader visiting Palpious in his throne room in a tower high above the palace.

gobalicious, I really like that crawl. Very effective.

Oh I'm sorry. I thought you were saying on in your recnt posts you could change Tatooine in Episode One to be Geonosis.

I agree with that. However, I also brought up the idea of keeping Tatooine in the later episodes but having it be a world formerly ruled or governed by the bad guys of the clone wars that is then abandoned by the time of episode two.

That way you could then place shmi on tatooine as in the existing film. The idea would be the lars family moved from geonosis to tatooine between the events of episodes one and two to settle tatooine.

Maybe Cliegg Lars lost his leg in the clone wars and he's an old veteran who was given land on tatooine as part of his pension? :D

You also suggested maybe geonosians like podracing too. Well, there are shots in the podrace that look alot more geonosian than tatooine-ish so I agree with that.

Then there are the parts in AOTC where anakin is on his speeder looking for his mother passing through tatooine landscape that looks geonosian.

Oh my head.

But I'm all for turning tatooine in TPM into geonosis. But geonosis needs to bve the red rock world and tatooine needs to be distinct from it: sand. Lots and lots of sand and flat plains.

Bingo, I like the Geonosis becomes Tatooine idea, at least regarding the first film.

You were asking how would Shmi end up on Tatooine?

Maybe it's a system abandoned by the bad guys of the clone wars and the republic steps in to settle it?

They encourage farmers and such to colonize it and so the Lars family steps up and moves from Geonosis to Tatooine.

It's too bad there's not more footage of a young owen to set up more confrontation between him and anakin over the latter wanting to leave when owen gives him the tantalizing prospect of staying.

Oh man, you could parallel ESB when Yoda encourages Luke to stay and finish his training rather than go help his friends.

You could do something similar with episode 2 where it's owen encouraging anakin to stay on tatooine with his mother and not return to the fight to help a friend(obi-wan captured by dooku).

I wonder if anything from Avatar and the humans fight with the Navi could be used? I'm thinking more "aftermath" of a battle than during.

Isn't there some scene in the extended edition that shows arrows in tires and some burned out vehicles?

What's that movie called Emerald Forest? Does that have anything?

EDIT:

Bingo, here might be something with Jjejerrod in command and covering up stuff.

So in the existing cut Vader goes to the DS and visits Jerjjerrod.

Maybe instead change some(no need for all) of the dialogue so instead Vader mentions the cover up, or that Jerjjerrodd hasn't been upfront. Vader is no schlub. He can figure out when he's being misled.

So Jerjerrod goes on to mention the moon being ready( for what I don't know: resettlement of Coruscanti as that planet is overpopulated and the citizens are growing restless?) and that the "savage creatures" will be crushed.

It would be cool if the scouts were shown doing something more than just standing around.

Why are they there? What are they doing?

This is one of those things where changing it needs to be made into something that clealry reads to the audience. Otherwise it takes two scouts standing around and has them do......what....what are they doing?

^ the man has a point.

i still don't think endor being a moon of coruscant would wash though, especially if ewoks were living there.

what if endor though wasn't home of the shield generator, but was some other objective point? like the control hub for the droid army?

I see your point about why ewoks would be there.

People have talked about an ongoing battle with the ewoks and imperials existing at the start of RotJ and burned out hulks of At-Ats on the moon in the radical edit thread.

That would actually make more sense if that were happening on the moon of Coruscant than just some moon in the outer rim like in the existing cut.

The empire would then be trying to eradicate this primitive race of teddy bears from the moon of imperial center.

One of the reasons I push the idea of Coruscant so crazily(I admit it!) is it has a nice symmetry not just with the OT but the whole saga.

Here is the place where Palpatine hatched his whole scheme to takeover the republic and here is where the son of the man Palpatine corrupted will return and face off with him.

It has a beauty and cyclical nature to it that Lucas has used throughout the saga.

And I didn't think of it, Lucas himself originally thought of the idea. And his original inclination was correct.

Bring things full circle with the climax of the whole story of the Skywalkers by having father and son together with Palpatine on Coruscant.
