also worth mentioning is that the first writer of the original Marvel Star Wars , Roy Thomas , was best known as the writer of Conan Comics and petitioned George Lucas to green light the comic and convinced Stan Lee to take it on . I am also a huge Conan fan , almost as much a fan of it as Star Wars . And Roy Thomas’ writing helped shape my vocabulary as a kid
I know what you mean , as the Conan look of the Star Wars comic and the Tom Jung poster were heavily influenced by the work of Frazetta , who George Lucas was a huge fan of as well as a friend of George Lucas named John Millius who went on to direct the 1982 Conan The Barbarian . That is a very plausible theory , I have both the first and second issues of that Special Edition comic from here in the U.S. , As I understand it , it was published with both Marvel and a Whitman publishing logo , I think the Whitman may have been intended for big box stores like K-Mart etc. Not sure if Whitman extended to the U.K. so that would be something to research. pretty cool though , I am also a big fan of Dezungia’s work on Savage Sword Of Conan and this illustration is well suited to his style and reminiscent of the Tom Jung movie poster as well. Only suggestion I would make is to use the same color palette for Han and Luke’s skin tones as you did for Leia. Looks really nice overall though.

very cool ! I like how you got Ben’s saber the correct color and the more subdued tones on the aliens …I think if you add in a little more reflected light, as from the overhead apparatus ,onto the figures , as well as some suggesting of more shadows it would be perfect .

Perhaps a bit obscure , but I was pleased to see the Cloud Riders in some form in the new Solo movie ! And I also think animated versions of the “legends” books would be an awesome idea
yeah , that would be cool to have a proper cartoon , I think a motion comic of the best arcs would be doable though , there are a lot of ongoing projects on youtube that use even the current comics such as here…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W65-4VTOcl0 as long as it is stated clearly as an adaptation and fan project not for profit , I think it would fly . It has always been a little dream of mine to have these stories come to life in some capacity . Any one else watching this thread have the time or inclination to take this on ?
also, I saw Solo over the weekend and it was a hell of a lot of fun with dozens of references going all the way back to 1978 and before , but done in a way that added flavor to the story and rewarded longtime fans without calling too much attention to themselves or pandering .In my opinion ,it is the best of the new batch of films.
Maybe since the idea of organic/droid relationships was floated in the old Marvel comics more than once, it’s not bothering me at all. And Lucasfilm always had veto power over the comic storylines, (screams in the void posted about that in the SW Marvel thread recently) so one can infer they were okay with it back then.
thanks for the shout out Silverwook ! and the issue of droid rights goes all the way back to that first issue of that old Marvel comic that took place outside the original movie , the story arc of Valance the Hunter and Simon Greyshade and MasterCom on The Wheel deals with it as well .
Very cool ! I have seen those Droids vhs tapes that you mentioned and I recognize the style . I think it would be an awesome project to get a group of people together , record voices and make an animated motion comic of the original series from beginning to end .Also , have you shared these covers in the fan art section of this forum ? if not , I think you definitely should .
as well as the subtle changes in dialogue in each audio mix …like Luke talking to R2 on Dagobah when the swamp monster spits him out …" you were lucky to get out of there " vs. " you’re lucky you don’t taste very good" and many others. There are story of LP’S that used alternate dialogue tracks as well that were recorded during the production of the movies .
