maybe that is another reason I like vhs on a crt …vhs was made with crt displays in mind as those were pretty much all that was available at the time
^ me too , though I admit nostalgia plays a factor for me . That and I found an old 13 inch tv/vcr combo at a Goodwill for five bucks about seven years ago and started collecting vhs tapes because of it .Then my neighbor moved out and gave me about 100 or so tapes , some still in the shrink wrap . I also like to collect the hard plastic clamshell vhs movies from the early 80’s ( I have the first two Rambo movies like this ) as well as box sets . I have come to like the softer look of them .
^ thanks for the response ,I suspected as much , I have seen a lot of videos where gamers swear by crt displays as superior due to the rich deep blacks and other things you mention . I wish they would have put the Star Wars films on D-theatre VHS which was a short lived format that had HD VHS tapes …https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiu0LPeLQPE I would track one down if they did .
it’s like the behavior of a dog , pissing on every fire hydrant it comes across in order to mark it’s territory
I have always wondered how the display you watch movies on effects the quality of what you are viewing . Say you have a very cheap , low quality lcd tv and a cheap ,low quality blu ray player , and then you have a very high end Crt Tv and a high end vcr …which is the better viewing experience ? I would like to see a side by side comparison of this some time .I have a Samsung Slimfit 38 inch widescreen HD crt tv from the mid 2000’s that has hdmi outputs as well as a 60 inch LG smart tv and to me , the crt looks better .I would like to take pics to compare but I do not have a camera that is up to the task . I have also thought about ( just for fun ) taking my old Sanyo 4x3 16 inch crt from 1997 and hooking an av to hdmi converter to it to see how it looks .anyway , I would be interested to hear peoples meaningful thoughts on this
I have HDADD…I don’t always pay attention , but when I do , It’s incredibly clear .
^ I meant they were not in HD in there original theatrical run , not the kind of HD we have today . The picture was clear and sharp , but they also had scratches and film grain
I would like to see the finished 35mm preservations some time
I prefer the 92 vhs box set over the 95 faces vhs set , I am not a fan of the blue tie fighter lasers in the asteroid chase
my 92 widescreen vhs box set trilogy also looks awesome on my Samsung slimfit widescreen 38 inch crt tv , via my panasonic hi-fi 4 head vcr , no zoom feature needed
^and I am not trying to be snarky or ironic here , this is my preferred way to watch the movies
While this does solve the anamorphic problem it doesn’t solve the motion blur but at least it looks nice when played in a Blu Ray player.
True but that was never a major issue for me just like i don’t mind the scratches and dirt on the Grindhouse versions though they do annoy most of my friends for some reason.
^I am in agreement here …the movies I saw in 77,80,and 83 had some scratches and grain on them and were not in HD in the theatre
you play your vhs through a blu ray player ? you are a very special individual

“I knew at the beginning that I was not doing science fiction. I was doing a space opera, a fantasy film, a mythological piece, a fairy tale. I really thought I needed to establish from the start that this was a completely made up world so that I could do anything I wanted.”
-George Lucas from Star Wars the annotated screenplays by Laurent Bouzereau
Titan A.E. , The Running Man , Light Years aka Gandahar , anything by Ralph Bakshi , The cat from outer space
^ I live in Chicago , are you saying Chicago fans are toxic and Florida fans are not ? not sure what point you are trying to make here …
kind of difficult since Disney owns Lucasfilm .
^ but at least the prequels are watchable , right ?
The battle starts too suddenly. Let the scene linger in silence everyone behind the shields for a moment.
^I disagree , I think the very few seconds of the door unlocking at the beginning you did is very good
The only I can think of right now (I’m sure there are much worse):
A.P.E (1976).
Space Warriors 2000 (1985))
Magic Lizard (1985).
Curse of the Screaming Dead (1982).
Guinea Pig: Mermaid in a Manhole (1988).
Nekromantik (1987) .
Zombi Holocaust (1981).
Tintorera (1977).
^Mermaid in a manhole sounds like a bad porno movie
^ at the time I watched that episode of TCW , I thought the Priestesses were the Whills , who , as many know , were mentioned in the prologue to the original Star Wars novel and the saga referred to as the journal of the Whills . This concept made it into Rogue One in that The characters of Baze and Chirrut are guardians of the Whills .Chirrut even mentions " the force of others " which is a concept from early Lucas story outlines and drafts .
I’m pretty sure John Knoll came up with the idea …https://www.wired.com/2016/11/john-knoll-rogue-one-star-wars/
