The Mandalorian - Star Wars live action TV series : Non Spolier thread

^ or maybe Dash Rendar ?

Where did Dash Rendar come from again? Fan fiction? Is he part of the canon? And why does he exist? Meaning why is he a rogueish sarcastic smuggler?

I’m starting to wonder if Star Wars was really meant to continue in perpetuity like it is. It seems like the OT was a self contained story filled with archetypes. So they’re just going to keep using this limited number of archetypes? Didn’t the Disney cartoon series have some kind of non-human character playing the role of strong man a la Chewbacca?

I was being a bit sarcastic , meant as a joke , but now that I think about it , the character of Dash Rendar , who made his debut in Shadows of The Empire , is not beyond the possibilty of showing up in the mandalorian . Dave Filoni brought a lot of old “legends” concepts back into “canon” in The Clone Wars , including the Falleen species and Black Sun who also made their debut in Shadows Of The Empire .What I am also saying is that the use of these tropes is not a new thing exclusive to Disney , they have been there for a long long time . Dash was indeed portrayed as a sarcastic rogue smuggler . There was even a character named Rik Duel in the original Marvel Star Wars comic that was basically Han with a goatee who was also a sarcastic smuggler. There are lots of other decades old examples if you look closely .

What Special Edition changes (if any) did people like?
Time

^this is true , and it was also said that the saga was being told from the viewpoint of the droids , but I think they do feel "wedged in " in the prequels . Yeah , Artoo had a couple of heroic moments , but the story could have been told without them , if you were to edit them out , with the exception of maybe artoo repairing the hyperdrive in TPM , it would not change the story of the prequels . I always thought the droids would have had a bigger role in them before the prequels came out . a missed opportunity imho .They just felt shoehorned in.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

^ I have been seeing this story making the rounds in more than a few outlets today …seems like a smear campaign ahead of the new movie to me …I mean ,this is really old news as evidenced by interviews with Lucas as far back as early 2016 …seems this news from back in May of this year is being swept under the rug …https://www.wired.com/story/cantina-talk-84/?fbclid=IwAR1aw6pDEn60syzakPjFtbeX353nOQ2jBhbyzFyNqadi3rosPmtjqVI-wEc

and George’s criticisms of The Force Awakens mentioned in the article you posted are ironically , the same criticisms that his old friend and long time collaborator , producer Gary Kurtz had about Return Of The Jedi …https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM7mZ0OwFfE

If you could change one thing about every movie, what would it be?
Time

TPM-make Anakin 17 or 18 …AOTC -No Yoda with Lightsaber , I actively seek out fan edits that omit this …ROTS -no Yoda/Palpatine duel , I always thought these 2 characters had advanced beyond the need for sabers .ANH-put back in the deleted Biggs scenes . ESB-not a damn thing if it is the original cut , it is perfect to me .ROTJ- go with the original plan and have the Ewoks be Wookiees . TFA-a little more background on the political situation in the galaxy …what happened to Coruscant ? TLJ-put back in the deleted scene of Luke mourning Han .

There is another form of negativity I like to call “passive-aggressive trolling.” These are people who do not break forum rules, but still manage to constantly disrupt threads.

I think how most forums define trolling needs an update.

^ agreed , especially those who ignore the opening post, the spirit of the thread, or wish to knock your thread and further their own beliefs or agenda and just carry on anyway…

except you left out the part where I clearly stated " I understand that some people genuinely do not like the direction of the new films,or the decisions of those making them , and have some ligitimate criticisms, but this is not the place to heir those concerns , you probably SHOULD start your own topic to express your views and if you are of a mind to take a stand and stick up for the aforementioned people making the movies and the people that like them that ARE being harrassed, then this is the place for it ."

guess I will have to repeat my post from earlier in the thread for newcomers or those who forgot…my edit to the OP for further clarification …#standagainst https://www.deviantart.com/screamsinthevoid/art/Stand-Against-748884934?ga_submit_new=10%3A1528516751 " Being a toxic fan is when you’re insulting and berating and harassing the people making the movies or the people that like them." Folks , these are the exact people I speak to in making this topic , Kelly Marie Tran , Ahmed Best ,Jake Lloyd, Daisy Ridley, etc. . I understand that some people genuinely do not like the direction of the new films,or the decisions of those making them , and have some ligitimate criticisms, but this is not the place to air those concerns , you probably SHOULD start your own topic to express your views and if you are of a mind to take a stand and stick up for the aforementioned people making the movies and the people that like them that ARE being harrassed, then this is the place for it .and to be clear on the intentions of this thread , if you have something supportive to say , this is the place , if not , take it elsewhere or start your own topic . I think I have done my part to be as clear as I can .

^ I get what you are saying here , but some of it I highly disagree with . this part mostly …“But for all the useful information in that video, it neglects the basic fact that “fandom” itself is a grift, selling people the lie that obsessing over fictional things whose creation is completely out of your control is a positive, healthy way to live. Fandom is grass-roots marketing at its purest, the belief that opting to be walking commercials for someone else’s art can be spiritually rewarding. That you can build meaningful, healthy relationships out of that shared obsession, and that the world can be made a better, more manageable, more interesting place by simply mixing consumerism with love and letting the two impulses inform one another.” …seems to kind of undervalue this community right here . also, if you are not aware of them …look into the 501st Legion , they do a lot of charity work and visits to childrens hospitals , or the R2 builders and R2-KT …https://io9.gizmodo.com/the-heartwarming-story-behind-r2-kt-and-how-she-joined-1744986951 I would say there are many , many Star Wars fans out there turning their shared obsession into something that makes the world a better ,more interesting place mixing consumerism with love and letting the 2 impulses inform each other and I encourage my fellow OT members to post more examples here…

SilverWook's vintage Star Wars newspaper clippings (and other stuff) thread. (LARGE IMAGE INTENSIVE!)
Time

^ awesome ! reminds me of a similar scrapbook I made as a kid , wish I still had it , it had newspaper articles and all the toy ads I could find. I really like that Star Wars to Jedi advert with the line art of Vader , never seen that before ! And for a lark , I called the toll free NPR number on the Empire Radio advert , it is active as a home cell phone service company !
