The Unpopular Film, TV, Music, Art, Books, Comics, Games, & Technology Opinion Thread (for all you contrarians!)
Time

I often hear the popular opinion that only the even numbered Star Trek films of the original movies are the good ones . I disagree…I just watched Star Trek The Motion Picture (1979)again last night and I think it is highly underrated . I think it is like 2001 A Space Odyssey on steroids ! It’s trippy as hell and has a poignant story . Some complain about the pacing being too slow ,and I used to be in that camp , but watching it again , I remembered that it had been 10 years since the original tv series ended .This is the audiences re introduction into that world and they are meant to experience the same sense of wonder and awe as the characters in the movie themselves experience .Plus , I genuinely appreciate spending time in thought provoking slow burners such as Bladerunner and Watchmen etc .I know George Lucas has been quoted as saying that the problem with some film makers is that they spend too much time on sets and settings and not enough on story , but the best of them make the settings and the worlds part of the story , almost characters themselves.

Thank you ! I actually started thinking about making book covers while making it .Now to try and find some book publishers that I can submit my own art samples to . Any suggestions from people on here ?

Maybe the crowd was just more of these guys?

Or else I think it’s just his personal army of Torgos. ;P

Who exactly are those guys? Anyone know?

IIRC, they were supposed to be his advisors, so pretty much like all the flunkies he kept around in the prequels only less alien.
I don’t think I’ve ever spotted the conehead one in the movie.

What was Kenner thinking making one of these guys an action figure when we never even got a Wedge?

Poor chap never even got a proper name at the time.

^ Wow , I never noticed just how much those guys look like something drawn by Jean Geraud Moebius ! He had an influence on the look of the probe droid , so I wonder if they used him for inspiration here as well ? I would be willing to bet that they did .

^ Hey, I was talking on the phone with my mom this morning & happened, for some reason, to mention waking up thirsty, & she said the SAME THING YOU DID!
I laughed & when she asked what was funny, I just told her “A kind soul just passed off this same info.” 😄
Kinda has me thinking though… Maybe I should cut back on my water intake just so see how my thirst is really doing? Sounds strange, but.

^ Mom’s are the greatest ! Your body does need water though, so I would recommend drinking a moderate amount . Exercise is key and avoiding too many carbs and sugars . Portion control on food . You can still enjoy things but in moderation . You need to burn off what you take in .Wish I had been more aware of this before I was diagnosed . I might have prevented it .But then , I was in my mid 40’s and it was adult onset. plus ,it can be hereditary . 2 of my relatives had type 2 .Even a brisk 15 minute walk per day can help towards prevention .

Apart from the GFFA, what is the film you own the most copies of?
Time

I have multiple vhs copies of Batman 89 . I bought a 13 inch tv/vcr combo at a thrift shop back in 2013 and it played all of the vhs tapes that I put in it just fine , but for some reason , it kept eating every copy of Batman 89 that I put into it . That little tv combo really hates that movie ! I still have a sealed copy and a playable one that works fine in my stand alone vcr though.

Last night I woke up middle of the night VERY thirsty.
It was weird, because it took me a sec to figure out what this sensation was. I haven’t actually been thirsty in years! I’m constantly drinking water, so the feeling of thirsty just never happens anymore.
Or, rarely, I guess.

^ keep an eye on that…I have type 2 diabetes and excessive thirst is one of the early warning signs .If it continues , I would recommend seeing a doctor . I was diagnosed about 5 years ago and that was how it started for me .I could not stop drinking water .

^ good question , although the writer of that comic Archie Goodwin ened up killing off Dodonna in his newspaper strip . He planted charges all over Yavin base to buy the Rebels more time to escape when the Empire came back to drive them off Yavin , sacrificing himself.

NBC network television premiere of TESB intro…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naGx6ZfL_-g

Television Intro from “NBC Sunday Night at the Movies”
Aired and recorded the night of: 11/22/87

Great find. I love that Outer Limits style voice-over, it’s always fun when ads like this got creative instead of just cutting a bunch of movie clips together.

^ the fact that James Earl Jones as Darth Vader narrates the intro is the icing on the cake ! could be a good resource for fan editors who can isolate the audio …

Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

‘General Leia Organa is a revered figure amongst the Resistance. But early drafts for the sequel trilogy suggested that Carrie Fisher’s alter ego wasn’t beloved in all quarters. In a treatment outlined by Michael Arndt, it was revealed that Leia’s status as Darth Vader’s daughter sidelined her while the Rebellion tried to transition into building a new Republic.’

^ I think this would have been a welcome addition to what we saw on screen - especially for the lack of world-building and awareness on the ‘lay of the land’ / current state of the Galaxy in The Force Awakens… especially in regards to the plight of the Resistance, the New Republic, and also the status of the First Order itself.

^this is the whole premise of the book Bloodline by Claudia Gray . One of the few Disney books that I thoroughly enjoyed .
and this would have been awesome too…https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Scandal_of_Blood
