STAR WARS Movies Animated
Time

Don't know if it's accurate or not, but a long time ago I read that the only characters that were supposed to be in all 9 movies were 3po and r2.
Somehow that makes sense to me as it seems like we should already know those two at the beginning of anh.

Also I got the impression somewhere that 3po was already several hundred years old by the time of ep iv. I always imagined that ep. i would take place hundreds of years before ep. iv.

It's unfortunately very true that premiere has problems with those two very common lossless codecs.

However, while I never got it to work properly with lagarith, I did get it to work with huffyuv (talking exporting, reading both worked fine). I suggest trying the various settings, specifically 'enable full-size output buffer' and 'always suggest rgb output'. Also I think 'recompress' (in the premiere export dialog) always needs to be selected, but it probably is already.

Ok, I have sent discs to ThrowgnCpr, Andrey and Astromech for RS'ing, torrenting and PIF'ing respectively. For the first two I sent the original rar's in case you wanted to use them. Should be a week or so, maybe two if you're unlucky.

Thanks guys!

Hopefully this covers everything.

BTW, Andrey, what did you mean with your comment about the subtitles?

A better way of burning (because many people have problems burning with nero and to be honest it isn't very reliable), just download the free burning tool IMGBURN then you can just open the iso and burn. Its a much better burner than nero and the discs are much more compatible than any i have burned using nero

Going somewhat OT:

Well, I have used nero for years and years and found it to be very reliable... Unless you're talking about the later versions - I'll probably never use anything later than version 6, they've just become too bloated. And nero express = hate ;).

And for anyone having trouble with nero, try using the core app 'Nero Burning ROM' and not nero express or whatever the other apps are called.

Haha... I just hope Ady doesn't paste those images. =)

damn. Now i have to think of some other way of adding the graphics. ;)

Hehe, if those were too obvious there's also this:

:)

The old arcade game. Somewhat interesting in light of all the discussion - in that game there are many AT-STs on Hoth.

I got a lot done today, and I greet you with grain removal test shots. If you didn't read one of my early posts, I'm attempting to remove grain and add detail to the classic films to help match them up to the prequel HD shots, oh and I will be applying this method to TPM as it was too shot on film, and actually became the grainiest of the films. Crazy. Anyway, here you go!

Nice, BUT you might want to tone down the sharpening quite a bit. It looks rather artificial, to my eyes at least.

I downloaded the codec, and extracted it into a folder, but now what? The video still wont play normally and it still says I need to download the codec. What was I supposed to do after I downloaded it?

Anyone?

Install it?

Or, as someone already suggested, try a player that includes its own codecs, like vlc or mplayer.

Inconsistent use of "the force"

You need to give actual evidence of your claim that Yoda was not being literal

Well, their whole conversation was about Luke's mindset, and Yoda trying to make him see things in a different way.
Clearly it is not power that Luke lacks, but the belief that it is possible.
Yoda was trying to get him to understand the nature of the force, which obviously conflicted with everything he already knew.

So how is it not a philosophical discussion? The Jedi are all about philosophy.

Yoda wasn't teaching him some specific Jedi-lifting trick, like “...moving stones around is one thing but this is totally different!”, “No, no different!, just remember to bend your knees and lift with you legs.” ;)

Yoda never implies that he is the perfect Jedi or force-user ("Strong am I with the Force… but not that strong").
So you could take it that Yoda is not all-powerful but he is wise enough to know that it is his own lack of faith in the force that prevents him from being that.

Wanted: Where can I find original '77 '80 & '83 action figures in original packaging?
Time

Try something like this search (on ebay):

star wars vintage moc -votc -otc -saga

(Leave out the 'moc' if looking for loose figures)

Be aware that many are selling recards (figures in reproduction packaging), so be aware, and check the small print for words such as recard, replicard, reseal etc. They can still look good, but prices should be much lower than with original packaging.

If you are interested in starting a collection, read up on the figures and variants on places such as these:

http://www.rebelscum.com/vintage.asp

http://theswca.com/index.php?action=disp_category&category_id=421

When starting out, the cheapest ones to get are generally the ROTJ and Trilogo ones, the more expensive and rarest are generally the SW and POTF lines, with ESB somewhere in between.

Common ones which can usually be had pretty cheap are Ree Yees, Klaatu and Rancor Keeper.

Good Luck!

A little more news:

I finally managed to get the English narration. :)
So it will be included also. Thanks to Brumme for the lead, which ultimately worked out.

Another note for Tobbeo, who was concerned about the pal speedup:
Well, as you may know, I was able to attend a theatrical screening of this, and the funny thing is that it was the same pitch as most other versions I know of. The only version I have heard with a lower pitch is the Chinese ntsc bootleg dvd - even the official Taiwanese ntsc dvd runs at the same speed and pitch as the pal versions (may be due to shoddy manufacturing though). So it's not entirely clear how it's supposed to sound in the first place... Maybe what you'll be getting in my version IS the correct pitch?

And there's identifying passion with the dark side. Passion is what makes us human. It's an essential part of life and human nature. To identify passion with the dark side while portraying the Jedi ideal as basically not feeling is pretty awful. That's a message that feeling is evil and that we shouldn't feel. Horrible message.

So balance is when the side that's associated with feeling is gotten rid of? That's a bent message.

Feelings are not evil. But letting feelings or passion control you might not be a good idea. Do you follow every feeling you get? If someone says something to anger you, do you choke them?

Jedi are not without feelings. They don't let feelings control them though. When you are 'calm, at peace' you don't project strong feelings, to some you may even seem uncaring. That doesn't mean you are though. They are supposed to be empathic and selfless, and lashing out in anger, for example, would not make much sense. It would go against their nature and/or belief.

A Sith is the opposite - selfish, and will use or indulge in any feeling or passion to augment their power, to further their own goals or simply for gratification. And there can indeed be gratification (though perhaps a darker, fleeting one) in doing what you know is wrong.

Luke was in a different trilogy that had a different attitude. And I don't see anything unreasonable in wanting to prevent the death of somebody you love and it's that that led Anakin to the dark side.

Anakin's fear of Padme dying was reasonable and natural and a product of love. His wish to have a way to stop that death was likewise. Yoda basically wanted him to stop caring, which was damn cold.

Being able to let go is also an important part of being human. Everyone dies you know, and you have to let go sometime.

You can't save everyone, and maybe you shouldn't, not 'by any means necessary'.

And what is 'love' or 'true love'? Did Anakin feel true love towards Padme? Not really, in my opinion. He wanted her to live, not for her sake but for his own sake. He would do anything to save her, even if she did not want to be saved. By doing this, he eventually ended up causing her death.

And 'love' is not a singular thing. It is many things, not all of them good. How many have been killed or hurt because of 'love'? It is not uncommon to hear of someone who has killed their partner because they were going to leave them, for example.

Selfless love is true love to me, selfish love is not love at all.
