STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I must say I prefer Vaders helmet moving than the weird effect of the head of Darth Vader now... It looks like a cardboard head, like that scene of Bruce Lee
http://youtu.be/1bAdMrMxMm0?t=1m1s

Besides that, everything is wonderful. The clouds, the zoom, the colors, the lightsabers, the burnt metal... The shot were Vader and Luke are fighting on the bridge, cuting the railings now is absolutely beautiful. Looks like if it was shot yesterday.

Nope. 1995 was probably the last time he gave a rats ass about his fans.

I think he stopped caring about fans in 1981/'82 when according to Gary Kurtz he began to favor merchandising and toy sales instead of storytelling.

1995 was simply the last time the fans got what they wanted or expected, in my opinion.

Curiously enough, 1981/82 was also the date when he got lazy, and decided to wrap the story with one movie (Return of the Jedi) instead of doing the whole second trilogy with Luke searching for his sister etc, and fighting the Empire for 3 more movies. You can also see how lazy Return of the Jedi is when you see how he overuses matte paintings instead of sets and he filmed at close by locations for Tatooine and Endor.

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

Watching the prequels, ive realised how easily would be to edit out the whole "forbidden love" plot from Episode III. Mainly because there are more scenes where people perfectly know that this is going on and dont care than scenes in wich this matters.
The only problem is that it will make Anakin's story through Episode II much shorter, but i guess you can include Padme's family for character development.
Things that will improve if you did this:

_You get rid of many crappy dialogue

_Is less unbelieable for Padme to fall for Anakin after he acts like an idiot or kills people. Its stupid, but if she was already his girlfriend while all that things happens, she will be more inclined to support him and go around with him. Just leave the Love as a classic guy meets girl and they fall for each other almost a day before meeting from almost every single fairy tale. The thing is, if you dont question that love in the movie, you dont question why would they fall in love.

_Scenes like the waterfall scene, or Padme going to Tatooine, arent as forced as they are now, they are just development of a young couple.

_Obi Wan will know about this, and will be OK with this. Wich will help in scenes that he would obviously know this, like everytime Anakin talks about Padme or in the "What would Padme do in your position?" scene.

Have you realsied how NOBODY cares about their marriage? Obi Wan obviously knows through all the story, Anakin tells Yoda he is worried about loosing someone he loves, the council dosnt care to send the two alone to Naboo, and then again after the clone wars start, and ANYONE can see that Padme is pregnant. Seems like the only ones that mention this or care about this are Padme and Anakin.

You can fall in love, you can get married, you can have kids, you simply must accept that when they die you have to let them go.

Lucasfilm: 3D RELEASES MAY NOT HAPPEN AFTER ALL
Time

That is probably the most terrible poster ive seen for a Star Wars movie. Not even the DVD covers. It looks like the cover for a calendar or a scrapbook, a crappy one. WHO MADE THIS? How much money is Lucasfilm expending on this? 3D Conversion, two or three trailers directly to internet, and distribution. Even if it makes poorly, this movie is going to make much much more profit than most movies do. Just imagine how cheap and crappy the conversion is going to be.

Doesnt make much sense... First of all, he also said "Once more the Sith will ruuuuule the galaxy"
Secondly, doesnt make much sense to imbred the clones with such order "if i die, all the clones should die with me". Its like saying "If I die, i dont want the bad guys to keep ruling anymore, just leave the galaxy to the good guys" Im guessing even if he dies he prefers the galaxy to be ruled by a Sith than by a good guy.

It would make much more sense a rule like "If I die, i want all the clones to start killing EVERYTHING in their sight"

If you want to feel like the death of the Emperor is much more important, just tweak all the "celebration" scenes to "riot" scenes. Killing the emperor and the death star is just a symbol for all the people to rise against the Empire. You dont even need to show if those riots end up well, you just imagine they will even if there is much more fighting to do.

Why the hell would you WANT to change that scene? It doesn't look that way because of a technical error for heaven's sake.

Because it WAS a technical error - the footage was incorrectly transferred at 24 frames per second and then slowed down in post. For it to be considered an "artistic" approach would just be ignorant; you can argue that for a film like Gladiator which uses choppy slow-mo in a time where 60fps film is readily available, but the shoddy frame rate in that scene from ESB is a technical issue. The matte paintings stood well in their time and have gotten a bit of a boost, so why not this scene? It doesn't change the tone of the scene, nor does it change the story or pace of the film.

I'm all for this change.

Wait...really!??! I always assumed that was an artistic choice......there a source to confirm this?

Personally, I wouldn't mind enhancing that sequence in some way if there's a good idea....but I think it works fine as it currently is...intentional or not. The choppy framerate gives it an almost dream like surreal effect.....works well with the tone of the scene.

It IS definitely intentional. It is slowed down by repeating every frame exactly 3 times but the lightsabres are animated separately for each frame. The choppy slowmo effect starts with the shot of Vader entering and ends with the last shot of the cave scene, which is exactly the part that is supposed to be a dream/hallucination. There is nothing erroneous about it and it most certainly isn't a frame-rate issue and it would be seriously ignorant to think so. And 60fps for slow motion was surely readily available in 1979 just like now.

I'm not saying that Ady couldn't enhance it and give it some more modern dream-like effect but it definitely was not an error back then.

I always liked the effect on that scene. Even if it was done as a technical error. It feels surreal with an effect that is not overused (unlike normal slow-motion or any other blurry dreamy effect). This scene is not suposed to make you think "oh its a dream".

Both the effect and the music in this scene make it dizzy and confusing (this technique has the same effect in your head as the flashy frame-by-frame lights on a disco). A blurry dreamy effect would state clearly that its a dream and normal slow motion will make it "epic".

It was a good idea but I think a Pit Droid would have been a more appropriate choice.

Who would've thought that, putting something from the prequels into the OT would make people happy. Interesting...

Subtly, as a cameo, like Club Obi Wan in Indiana Jones it is fun. To me having a Battle Droid there is as fun as having a Dalek or Wall-E.

OMG. that is crazy! is that even canon? very silly, but i like the design of it.

i would argue for the emperor to have some sort of special star destroyer, just to add variety, he has the royal guard, why not a royal destroyer? makes sense though as you pointed out to begin the concepts with what we already have. when vader flies in at the start, he could fly through the drydock when the star destroyers are there, to ready establish the scale, in order to reach the smaller dock which we see him in

No need really. The difference between Darth Vader and the Emperor is that Darth Vader is a Thug, he is imponent and with a phisical powerful look. The great design of the emperor is that he looks weak and old, he is imponent because of his mind and his power as a political figure.
The Emperor doesnt need a Star Destroyer, he can go around with a shuttle and everytime he goes to a place EVERYONE gets mobilized. Im looking more for the dramatic symbolic effect more than what would actually make sense in an empire.

And Yoda could say "For 800 years I trained Younglings."

No.
This edits should be done for those who wouldnt mind throwing the prequels out from a bridge. There shouldnt be any changes made to the original trilogy to fix the Prequels (I dont even understand why Adywan wants to fix them, they are unecesary and unsalvable films).
So lets keep Yoda as Yoda, the absolute Jedi Teacher, the one that values more the spiritual ways of the force than running around with a lightsaber pushing things. I dont need Yoda being part of a "Jedi Order" with a rank, part of a official council with specific duties and the specific job of "Youngling Trainer". To me thats exactly like midichlorians. It giving technicality to something that should be magical, unexplained and spiritual.

To me, Yoda is a very spiritual Jedi that happened to be one of the few that survived.

Besides, the phrase "For 800 years I trained Younglings" is just silly for the moment he says it... If I was Luke I would say "Wh... What? Ben, did you just brought me to the Kindergarden Teacher?"

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I think George Lucas has a list. George's List. Where he takes note of all the things Fans hate about Star Wars but he likes.
_Hayden Christensen, Check.
_Ewoks, Check.
_Gungans, Check.
_Random CG characters in the background, Check.
_Darth Vader screaming Nooo, Check.

Then he thinks: Im going to avenge my movies by trolling the guys that insulted them, with extreme irony. I cant do this on Star Wars or Empire unless i want people throwing me stones while walking the street, ill have to add all this to Return of the Jedi.

Dont you think its TOO coincidental that every major criticised element of the prequels, those that became internet memes and that appear every time someone is insulting the prequels, ALL of them, appear in Return of the Jedi? It was already the worst of the OT and now it is a perfect compendium of the elements fans hated about the prequels. Return of the Jedi has become George Lucas finger, and he is not just showing it, he is charging us to see it.

If it's not "HD Master Audio" or similar, it's got some compression on it. They put so many audio tracks on the Europeon ones so they can sell the same discs in multiple countries, if I understand correctly.

And for some reason someone at Lucasfilm decided that most of Europe (besides France UK and Italy) would prefer to have German in HD instead of English, the original audio of the movie.

I should advise everyone. In Spain the Audio for all the packs will be:

    * DTS-ES 6.1 English.
    * DTS 5.1 Spanish.
    * DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 German.
    * Dolby Digital 5.1 Hungarian, Polish

Wich means the English audio WONT be HD, it will just be 6.1 for some reason while the German will be HD. In case you live in Europe check this out before buying the Blurays because you might not get the HD English Audio.

Simply the last two shots of the clip (with the stortroopers shooting, and the millenium falcom flying away) are incredible. They werent that much previously, but now the colors, the contrast and movement make them great shots.

I even like that the camera tilts up a little.

Im ok with one sound effect... but maybe that sound effect is too mechanical... Sounds like Palpatine works with the same turbo-boost of a podracer.

Why not simply add some Suprise music (no, i dont mean "tadaah"). It would also make more fluent with the "fight music" that sounds after it. Or, have you tried with the actual "Sith Scream"?

Actually, there IS a shot of Mace Windu rising his lightsaber... You could have that shot while the scream starts sounding and then the shot of Palpatine jumping on them (it might not work as Mace Windu still has the lightsaber down in that shot... but its worth a try). It will also work to show that Mace Windu is the only one that could see him coming.

Isnt there any way to cut that stupid super-spin of Palpatine at 0:32?? Even the guys that made the trailers knew that shot was stupid. Its even more menacing if we dont see Palpatine making quick attack and just appearing there as an evil shadow... Maybe starting the "sith scream" while igniting the lightsaber, or a shot of Mace Windu's face scared while the scream sounds and then the shot 0:33

Besides that, i like the editing of the rest of the fight. The Jedi die faster and in a more logical way, Palpatine doesnt does the stupid back flip, and there is no shot of Palpatine and Mace Windu starting to fight again like if one of the two had to go to the bathroom for a moment.

The only way to achieve this would be:

_Making Anakin force grab one of Grievous Red Lightsabers (wich will be Darth Vader's lightsaber) by mistake.

_Changing the shot of Obi-Wan grabing the lightsaber from the floor of Mustafar to the floor of the Utapau landing platform. Since they dont see each other again, there is no way he can give it back.

BAD THINGS_

_It seems forced and convinient

_It makes the situation of lightsabers a bit confusing because Obi-Wan just lost his... It would be: Obi Wan looses his lightsaber, picks up Anakin lightsaber, and then he picks his back again.

_Why wouldnt Obi-Wan or Grievous use Anakin's lightsaber during the whole fight.

_Since the red lightsaber is a symbol of the dark side, feels like Anakin turns to the dark side by mistake.

_The lightsaber hilt will still be Anakins, not Vaders.

GOOD THINGS_

_Anakin will have blue and red before killing Dooku, and just after THAT he will only use red lightsaber (pretty symbolic too)

_Anakin will use a red lightsaber to kill Mace Windu

_You wont need Anakin manufacturing a red lightsaber for the final Mustafar battle.

I just realised, if you are going to eliminate the whole backstory of Grievous collecting lightsabers, at the begining of the movie when he captures Obi-Wan and Anakin there is the dialogue:

_Your lightsabers will make a fine adition to my collection

_Not this time, and this time you wont escape.

You take out the line of Grievous (so he is just disarming them, not collecting lightsabers), but you have there a great oportunity for adding a good line. A good line that has to be answered with a "Not this time, and this time you wont escape". Helping that idea of Obi-Wan and Grievous having a backstory of fights. You know... something like:

_Finally! (S02E10) The story of Obi Wan Kenobi ends here... (S02E09)

_Not this time, and this time you wont escape.

Also, on that same episode (S02E09 Grievous Intrigue) you have the lines "Kenobi! What a surprise! I supose you came here to bring me to "justice"", "So, Kenobi, is everything going as planned?", "You wouldnt come here without a plan, and you wouldnt come here alone" Wich might be useful for Utapau.

On the episode "Grievous Intrigue" of Season 2, you have Grievous delivering the line: "The story of Obi-Wan Kenobi ends here!" wich I think its a great line for him to say during the movie... but... that scene of the TV series might have too much noise and music.

I have to agree with Angel on the white staffs... i like them. It makes them feel like a more usual weapon, like a subsitute for lightsabers, but not as cool as lightsabers.
