A '<strong>Rumour and News</strong>' thread for reported new Star Wars films and tv series
Time

Turns out the grammar rodeo show is really called Skeleton Crew and it’s not actually about Luke’s academy. Instead it’s about four kids and an adult (Jude Law) who come from a remote planet and “get lost in the Star Wars galaxy and have to find their way home.” Sounds to me like they’ve never heard of jedi or whatever.

Been enjoying Moonknight a lot so far. Oscar Isaac is doing as great job playing multiple personalities at once, and Ethan Hawke is great, as always.

Having never read the comics, I originally thought that Steven Grant was the person he was born as and Marc Spector was the alternate personality he created to escape his “loser” life. Glad the show proved me wrong, cause what they did instead was much better.

My new theory going into the finale now is that Khonshu somehow caused the rainstorm that led to Marc’s brother drowning, cause he knew that would eventually lead to Marc finding his tomb. I think he also did something similar to Ethan Hawke’s character at some point in the past, and that’s why Ethan Hawke hates him so much.

What do you think of the <strong>Sequel Trilogy</strong>? - a general discussion thread

Unlike a lot of people, I was very disappointed in TFA. It had two great points. Great character introductions and some really great scenes, but there really wasn’t much of a story there. People compare it to the 1977 original, but the original was a self contained story with a solid end. TFA felt incomplete and open ended. Especially when the tacked on Rey meeting Luke to the end. So I don’t consider it an echo of ANH in the slightest. It failed some basic film making tasks and for me it is the worst of the saga films.

I think the trilogy redeemed itself with TLJ and rose to the occasion with TROS. Those two films for me are the best saga films since ROTJ. For both of those films, I was glued to the screen and mesmerized in my first viewing. Not many films can do that so I consider them very well made.

With the way the saga developed, I can deal with TFA. It has flaws, but it is a solid introduction to the characters. It is like a prologue to the following 2 parter.

I agree that TFA is overrated and TLJ/TRoS are underrated (TLJ especially gets too much hate).

It looks a lot darker than Mando and BOBF, which is something that I’m very on board with.

Your eyes can deceive you, don’t trust them.

Considering the story they’re telling I don’t even see how it can be too light-hearted in tone or style similar to what BOBF ended up becoming, and I’ll be perfectly happy it ends up being similar to Mando. And of course without Grogu to “cute-ify” scenes I suspect it’ll be more Rogue One like in style. I’m not exactly expecting grim-dark or anything like that, but seeing as it’s a miniseries I trust that it won’t try to overly soften things for the sake of future seasons.

Future seasons? This is already confirmed to be a one-season thing.

<strong>The Book Of Boba Fett</strong> (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * <strong>SPOILERS</strong> *

I gotta say: I’m really starting to hate the spice arc in the boba show. It rips off dune, for starters (which starwars already does too much as is). Also it makes Tattooine more important than it should be. What made Tattooine cool before is that it was a backwater world. The biggest thing tho is that why would boba, a crime lord, want to stop CRIME?

Hmm a lot to unpack there. Overall I think I liked it. But once again, the most interesting parts of the Boba Fett show are the parts that have nothing to do with, well, Boba Fett…

EDIT: Im starting to come down from the high now. I still think it’s weird that they keep shoving you-know-who into everyone else’s story.

You could say the same of Bespin, seems like just the one city surrounded by endless clouds. Same for Hoth & Endor, they’re all very basic. Yeah Tatooine is a bit more fleshed out, but likewise Jakku seems pretty alive, the masive wreckages tell the story of a battle long past, we get a day in the life of a scavenger that shows the regular routine on Niima Outpost (which looks pretty alive and busy), and there’s also talk of Sinking Fields, Kelvin Ridge & the Goazon Badlands.

The one thing Jakku doesn’t have much is wildlife, which I feel is intentional in making the planet feel desolate, but still we see that red-eyed “Kojima” alien, that pecking vulture creature (a literal “scavenger”), and the giant pig drinking the water, though that one seems more domestic.

Saying Jakku is only a junkyard and a village is like saying Tatooine in ANH is only a Moisture Farm and a Spaceport. And as you said Ahch-to is like the inverse of Jakku, teeming with all sorts of wildlife, including those cool skeletons that made Tatooine feel so alive.

Those are all good points actually! I appreciate the added perspective.

The Sequel Trilogy is full of these same type of random nods to events and places though, off the top of my head I can think of the Trillia Massacre, the Battle of Chyron Belt, the Pits of Griq, etc. As well as all of the techno jargon such as ingnition line compressor, thermal oscillator, dedicated power breaker, complete redactive memory bypass, etc. On this aspect I think the ST is on point with the living universe vibe of the OT & PT.

Yes, the ST got the “jargon” part right but I was referring more to how the planets “feel.”

In ANH, Tattooine has Tuskens, Jawas, a dragon skeleton, a city, a moisture farm, mentions of Tosche Station, etc. In addition, Yavin IV has the ancient temple that the rebels occupy plus a bunch of other ancient temples in the background. Both planets feel “alive.”

Now compare that to TFA. Jakku has the junkyard and that one other village that gets attacked. Maz’s planet feels like it’s just her castle surrounded by an endless forest. Leia’s planet feels like it’s just her base surrounded by endless grass. Luke’s planet feels like it’s just his island surrounded by endless ocean (TLJ added a bit more “life” to it though). You get the idea.

Anthony Daniels’ C-3PO will be appearing in an upcoming series, but he’s in a mo-cap suit, instead of a physical suit that he normally wears.

It could be Kenobi, or it could be Andor, or he could be with Skywalker at the end of the Book of Boba Fett, right now it’s unknown.

My guess is the Obi-wan Kenobi series, due to Anakin creating him, and also rumors that he visits Leia, so the droids will be nearby.

Pretty sure it’s just for that “A Droid Story” project we heard about awhile back.

Episode 5 was fun (and even emotional at times), though I honestly feel like some of the lore/backstory stuff should’ve been saved for Mando Season 3. Also, Fennec just so happened to show up at the mechanic’s shop to look for Mando the same exact day Mando was there to get his new ship?

Not sure if I’ve posted on this thread yet but in case I haven’t:

I think TFA kneecapped everything with its nostalgia, mystery boxes, shitty worldbuilding, etc.

I’ve grown to really like TLJ, but I always prefer to watch that official silent movie version over the real thing. I like Rian’s “high-brow” style of dialogue, but I don’t think it fits within Star Wars (or at least not this “corner” of it).

TRoS only works for me when I pretend the other two don’t exist and that it’s some sorta self-contained epilogue movie to the OT, and even then it still has problems. I guess you can also try to pretend like it’s a b-movie/ Saturday morning cartoon.

Not sure how I’d rank them, at this point (same can be said for any of the films now, really). Overall I consider it on-par with the PT (they have opposite problems from one another).

Episode 4 was really good, for the most part. Boba’s motivations make a lot more sense now. I only have 3 complaints:

  1. Why would he think his armor was in the sarlaac? You crawled out of the sarlaac with your armor on, dumbass!

  2. Having spice be the central item of the plot makes this all feel too much like Dune, and the last thing SW needs is more similarities to Dune.

  3. As someone above said, we never learned how Boba found out who Cobb Vanth was and that he had his armor. Oh well. I guess that’s a small hole in the grand scheme of things.

Really enjoyed boba episode 3. EDIT: except for the chase. That sucked…

Predictions: By the end of the show, Boba will prove to other tribes of Tuskens that he has some Tusken history himself, and unite the tribes in a battle against the Pikes. I think Krrsantan will come back too, and fight alongside Boba, Fennec, the kids, the Gamorians, the Tuskens, etc. Obviously Boba will be leading the charge on his new rancor, and hopefully Trejo sticks around too. I’d also love to see other frequent Robert Rodriguez collaborators show up, but not getting my hopes up. EDIT 2: oh yeah and I assume the warrior woman Tusken will come back for that finale also, since we didn’t see her body in the slaughter.

Its also interesting how they keep mentioning how Tattooine used to be an ocean planet. I don’t think it’ll ever be that way again (it can’t cause of TRoS anyways), but I do think that means water will play a role somehow in the climax of the finale episode.

At one point, I thought Fennec would betray Boba due to him becoming so sympathetic, but I no longer think that’ll be the case.
