Selling to Disney was the best thing that could have happened for Star Wars. I wish they purchased it sooner.
I agree.

I agree.
Wonderful episode! I love how Boba’s new paint job is a nod to the early 80s marvel comics. 10/10!
Why do I have a feeling this will involve Darth Plagueis and “The Acolytes of the Beyond” leading into the history of who they are and how they end up worshipping Palpatine. I think Exegol and TROS references will be high in this one.
I think there was a report awhile back that they planned to do more with Exegol, in some shape or form, so I think you may be onto something there.
Would love to have Billy Dee narrating the “Calrissian Chronicles” version of events, while we see the messy reality with Donald Glover. Hopefully we see Ehrenreich’s Han and/or Qi’ra too; I could take or leave a full-blown Solo sequel, but I enjoyed the cast enough to think it would be a shame if we never saw those versions of these characters again.
Now that you mention it, The Calrissian Chronicles would’ve been a better title. Lando as a title sounds uninspired.
Wait, isn’t it during the original trilogy?!
“future era of the galaxy,” according to Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy.
Was this literal or talking about the new era of content?
See above.
How can it be after though… I don’t get it.
It’s about a new generation of the rogue squadron. Not the original generation.
I guess when most people talk about “Rebels sequel” they mean a follow-up to the closing seconds of the finale, that is, Ahsoka and Sabine teaming up to find Ezra (and possibly Thrawn).
Correct. My guess is that those story points will be covered in the Ahsoka show though. Not Rangers.
I said leading up to TRoS that during the climax Anakin’s voice was probably gonna say something to Rey along the lines of “you’re the new chosen one now.” Everyone yelled at me and called me an idiot, but then that actually happened (“bring back the balance, Rey, as I once did”). That was probably my biggest “called it” moment.
I’ve had other accurate predictions over the years though. I had been saying since 2002 that Episode III would be called RotS. I had said that the new Disney films would only divide the fandom more than even the PT did. I said that TFA would be too predictable and then TLJ would be too different and then TRoS would be too fan servicey… Those are the biggest ones that come to mind.
My guess is this is both the rumored Fett show as well as the rumored Cara and Bo show.
Hopefully this is a Solo sequel, of sorts!
I’m actually very excited for this one! I’ve always said that Star Wars works best when it’s for children, so hopefully this project in particular really embraces that angle.
This one has me VERY intrigued! Definitely one of the announcements from yesterday that excites me the most!
I feel weird about the show being called Obi-Wan instead of Ben…
Sounds promising!
When do you guys think this will take place? I’m thinking this is going to be during the galactic civil war.
It’s confirmed to be after TRoS.
I don’t mind Hayden Christensen at the end of ROTJ.
Phantom Menace has the best soundtrack of any SW movie.
The ST was doomed from the start.
Rogue One sucks.
I agree with pretty much all of this.
Seems interesting!
The PT & ST reflect each other perfectly — equally terrible in diametrically polar ways.
Is this really an unpopular opinion? Thought it was cannon…
From what I’ve seen, most fans love one trilogy, loathe the other, or enjoy both. Fans who dislike both trilogies seem to be in the minority.
I don’t think fans who dislike both trilogies are so rare, moreso that they end up picking one side or the other on the internet.
I find that fans like me, who like to point out the flaws of the OT (mainly ESB and RotJ) are even more in the minority.
EDIT: Meant to quote Duracell there. My bad.
I’ve already posted this elsewhere on this forum, but I guess I might as well share it again on this thread specifically cause it fits the topic at hand:
I recently wrote a four-part blog post explaining why I think ESB was really the movie where Star Wars “broke.”
You can read Part 1 here (each part ends with a link to the next part): https://henrynsilva.blogspot.com/2020/11/the-real-reason-you-probably-dont-like.html?m=1
Didn’t like the directing style of this episode. Apparently James Mangold was originally supposed to direct this one, but had to drop out at the last minute to focus on writing for Indiana Jones 5 (lol!). So Robert Rodriguez replaced him at the last minute, and it shows. Directing felt very haphazard. Writing was good tho! Still looking forward to the next episode.
I don’t think DE was implying that it isn’t something that exists. I think he was voicing disgust at the idea that such a thing does exist and that it’s being referenced on this message board.
This. Absolutely this.
Power creep like this is why I’ve come to hate telekinesis, Force lightning, and the other unsubtle Force abilities.
Yeah I mentioned on my blog that I don’t like how ESB turned the force into an excuse for “super powers,” and those powers have only been getting worse and worse ever since…
I suspect that the Thrawn mention will come into play next season. Wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t see Ahsoka again until then.
Upon reflection, I was really impressed how this episode felt like every kind of Star Wars coming together in a unified whole and not feeling disjointed. PT (Clone Wars, Corouscant), OT (Yoda, explaining the Force, McQuarrie-ism), ST (the village, the guards), cartoons (Ahsoka, Thrawn), and EU (Thrawn, imperial remnants, Tython): it all felt like it belonged together.
Will be interesting to see how and when they get to Tython, and how that affects the show. It’s a Core World iirc, and this show has been very based in one corner of the Outer Rim. If we assume that S2 will conclude with dark troopers & Gideon, possibly with a kidnapping Grogu cliffhanger, then S3 is set up for traveling to Tython.
How did the village and the guards remind you of the ST exactly? Just outta curiosity.
Couple of things I forgot to mention before:
1.Always great to see Michael Biehn getting work in Hollywood still!
2.It’s cool how this season has so many references to the Old Republic video games (the Krait Dragon battle, droids that look like HK47, the planet Tython, etc.).
Finally got around to seeing the full episode. Overall I liked it. Rosario did a great job as Ahsoka, and Filoni seems to be getting better at directing live-action, tho I did notice a few weird editing moments, and also the yellow tint on this planet was weird. Maybe yellow lighting somehow works better for live-action Ahsoka? Idk. Also I think it’s weird that now they’re saying Baby Yoda (Grogu) was on coruscant during the clone wars and we never saw him. I’m kinda getting tired of starwars doing retcons like that, but oh well. It’ll be interesting to see where this all goes.
I just wrote a four-part blog series about how I think ESB is overrated. You can read part 1 here if you want (each part ends with a link to the next one): https://henrynsilva.blogspot.com/2020/11/the-real-reason-you-probably-dont-like.html?m=1
Really enjoyed your blog - thanks! I pretty much agree with everything you said - I guess where we part company is that I’m in that Harry Potter camp you described. I was 8 years-old when SW came out and 14 for ROTJ, so you can see why I’d be of a ‘grow with the audience’ mindset. In fact when my wife introduced me to Harry Potter, and we got to the final instalments, I was like “that right there is what Lucas should’ve done!”. So yes, I maintain that TESB is the best SW film (from my certain point of view) even as I agree with 98% of what you said. Thanks for a great read!
Thanks! Glad you liked what I had to say 😃 even if you didn’t agree with everything. To each their own! I wish more of the fanbase was better at “agreeing to disagree” like this.
