Damn!
Hopefully things can be salvaged with the Gladiator HDTV file.

And let's not forget that not all SSD's are the same. Some of the very old SSD's are not much quicker than mechanical HDD. So it really depends on how recent your friend's SSD is.
Older SSD's have lower read/write speeds with as low as 100 mb/s, and more recent ones having 400-500 mb/s.
Speed also varies greatly depending on the SATA connection. If it is connected into a slower SATA port the read/write speeds will be adversely affected and you will not achieve full performance.
Edit: I can understand why you'd choose more space. But, if the opportunity ever arises again, I really do recommend one!
Sounds wonderful. I really like some of your choices in your edits. I always preferred the pink bear reveal as it was perfect, and... "if it aint broke don't fix it!" :-)
There are good and bad parts to both cuts, which is why I suppose it makes sense to take the strengths of each and utilise them accordingly.
SSD is probably one of the best parts of any modern PC. It has made tremendous improvements over mechanical hdd, both in the general speed of running the OS and its applications. I never truly believed the claims of it providing great differences in speed, as I did not want to spend the money until finally I decided to get one. Now I would say it is one of the single most important components and probably just as important as the CPU or RAM in terms of general performance in applications.
The only downside is they can be expensive if you want one with a lot of space. 256gb is probably minimum if you are video editing, with a mechanical hdd or SSD/mechanical hybrid hdd as your secondary drive.
What you have is a really great setup, but it would really come to life, so to speak, if you decided to put a SSD inside it.
Yeah Heat was a shocker when I saw it on blu-ray after being used to the DVD colours for so long.
It'd be nice to see a more neutral tone brought back again.

Well, I think that if it's not dcp and is the same source as wowow, the most logical assumption is that it's from the master used for the hdtv broadcast.
Yep, probably this.
Maybe I am just unlucky, but each time I go to the site it seems to be down. lol. This time was an exception though. :-D
Has the sound mix been decided for T2 Team blu project?
Apologies if it has. Will talk in another thread about it.
Wow, love your work.
There is an open matte version of Collateral kicking around in HDTV.
Titanic 2D and 3D blu-ray also have different aspect ratios:
I have the first release dvd with the CDS mix, and I have compared all the DVD/Blu-ray releases to it and I can't hear much difference - and usually I can hear the differences quite easily. I may have to give it another listen though.

How's that big-ass computer monitor working for you, Ady?
:)
I'd love it with we could have a tour/pics of Ady's workspace - where all the magic happens. :-P
There is an open matte hdtv version of Gladiator around somewhere. I never found it, but it was shown with screenshots on the avsforum.

Love don't come easy, it's a game of give and take.
Hmm, lol.

Has one for Die Hard 1 been found yet? I am curious to know what that would sound like compared with the blu-ray.
Since the movie is a 1988 release it would not have DTS. Now, if someone was able to capture the pcm from it and create a custom DTS track, you would at least get an idea of how it could sound.
ONLY movies after 1993 could have DTS.
:)
Ahh, thanks for the clarification. I guess my confusion came from seeing that the releases on dvd had DTS mixes.

I haven't had a chance to check the DCP file out yet, but what are the opinions on its 5.1 DTS track? I'm assuming it was redone/remastered for digital cinema, but is it still pretty faithful to the original theatrical feel?
CatBus brought it up, but I'm interested in it too. Can we discuss here what is the problem with BTTF's 5.1 mix?
I just really want to know. Is there anything wrong with it outside the fact it's not the original mix?
Well, to my ears it sounds less pleasing compared with the original mix. And when I say less leasing, I mean that it sounds slightly more flat and less dynamic. The 5.1 isn't a bad mix, but to me it just doesn't sound as good as the original. This is just my personal preference, others may prefer the 5.1 mix.
Yes, big thanks to both Jonno and zeropc for doing this - it would not have been possible without their input!
I really like it, there is however a little bit of purple/pinkness to some of the whites.

Unfortunately don't have a BD drive on my PC. Track was downloaded elsewhere. Besides even with the 4.0 track I wouldn't know what to do with it!
Think I may need to pass this onto someone else :(
Of course have the PCM track synced to the Criterion DVD if anyone wants it.
Hey no problem, I understand. I tried having a go at it myself and gave up when I ran out of space on my PC.

When a pcm is in a mkv for some reason trmuxer won't recognize, at least for me.
You need to demux it with eac3to as a wav then it will work.
I had the same problem, but will try eac3to now.
I love the fact the DCP has a dirty looking grain structure, it reminds me of how both Ghostbusters and Robocop look in blu-ray (4K versions I mean). In fact, I'd love to see a 4K remastered version of BTTF or the whole trilogy with no DNR - one can dream right?
Just checked out the DCP file briefly, and the quality is absolutely stunning. It looks so much better than the blu-ray and the other HDTV version that I had.
Now I just need to figure out a way to shrink the file slightly without compromising quality too much.
The only thing you might be able to do, is try to get the 4.0 dolby track from the last BD (which is closer to the 2.0 dolby mix) and see if you can use that to help edit it. I'm no expert either, but it's only thing I can think of.
This is really great! I love these ideas!
Nice Booshman!
I see you improved the colours.
Does anyone know if there were 2 versions of the Superman II international cuts? My memory is a little fuzzy, but I could have sworn there was...
