Help: looking for... Newsgroups Availability of the Moth3r DVDs
Time

Thanks for reposting these DM.

Some notes from what I can remember:

Audio for all three came from my 1995 VHS tapes. I did run the audio files through a click/pop removal filter, but I may have reduced the strength of the filtering for RoTJ thinking it wasn't necessary.

Surprised to see comments on the PQ for RoTJ - although this disc has the best colour, it's also the softest image and looks a little blurred.

Known flaws are listed here:
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/The-Moth3r-PAL-DVD-Set-Info-and-Feedback-Thread/topic/4031/

I really should get on and do a V2.

I haven't seen the others, but your ROTJ is easily the best LDRip I have watched - in fact I feel inclined to say, there seems to be more detail in parts than the GOUT DVD.

So, if ROTJ is the softest/weakest of the 3 you have done, then I really, really look forward to seeing the other two. 8)

I will refuse to buy STAR WARS on bluray!
Time

The only difference I noticed with DTS and Dolby concerning Star Wars (which was the only edition I can even recall using DTS) was watching one of those demo DVDs that show movies clips using DTS and Dolby, and on that disc was TPM pod race. There, the DTS sound had more detail and clarity in the sound over the Dolby, but maybe this was an illusion based on the loudness of the DTS track in parts? I'm not sure.

Will the color of the star wars films episodes 4-6 be fixed for the blu-ray release?

adywan said:

No, the colours of the OT at the Star Wars concert were exactly the same as the 2004 set. Only TPM had a really good restoration job done to it. The colours in that looked perfect and CG Yoda did look pretty good from the glimpses we got. It was reported by someone who went to CV that the Ep4 showing they managed to catch part of didn't look like it had Luke's green sabre but they weren't sure.

Don't forget that the colour changes were done by Lucasfilm Before they sent it off to Lowrey so i can't see them paying for another restoration

That is why Mr Ady, your restorations/edits/editions are the only ones I shall watch - except for the laserdisc stuff I have of course!

I'm more excited about ESB:R, and the future ROTJ:R than the Blu-ray release of Star Wars 1-6.

The only good thing I suppose, which you mention, is TPM getting some better treatment, as the colours were weirdly pink on the DVD and there seemed to be an awful lot of edge enhancement going on - other than that, for me that's about it for me as far as interest into the prequel restorations goes.

More than anything, I hope they fix the lightsaber issues in ESB and ROTJ. The colours seem ridiculously muted and the cores aren't as vibrant as they should be. Then, there is the issue with the rear channels being cocked up in ANH - will they fix that or say it is down to creative reasons again? LOL.

Oh well.

i proposed in the radical prequels thread to have the crawl text replaced with something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyE1V6Ac49Q&feature=related though obviously withought the moving background and perhaps the voice over intro could be something from Ep III (perhaps Obi-Wan/Yoda/Qui-Gon saying something that wouldnt spoil the Darth Vader/Lukes Father angle) and maybe having instead of the destruction of Krypton it could be something else (Jedi Temple or Anakin burning up, or something)

though i admit this would be very plagiarist and perhaps too un-starwars and hard to do

here is a rough mockup that worked on for the past three days (the music is temp)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIJekL2tPDc

I love that - but that's because I really like Superman Returns - well infact all the Superman movies 8)

Both SW and Superman not only share the master that is John Williams doing the music but they do the space thing really well.

Ady, can I ask why you needed a £250 odd GFX card ?

Wouldn't a GTX 460 or ATI 5770 for £120, have been more cost effective and sufficient?

Why does Adywan need to justify anything he does? What makes you think that Adywan would care at all about your opinion on how he spends HIS MONEY on HIS EDIT? YOU TWIT.

Actually, I just thought it might allow him to have some more money left over with the lower models, and I was trying to figure out the reasons why he would need a higher spec gfx card. Since I am into video editing myself, I was merely curious to know if there was any real advantage going with the significantly more expensive model in terms of editing video.

Ziz said:

And why are you so fucking offended at an innocent question?  Maybe rockin is asking because he's trying to learn about some technical difference between the cards that may have influenced Ady's decision and wants an opinion from someone who actually has one instead of technical review sites that blather out endless specifications without explaining what they mean in the real world.

It's amazing how much effort you put into not only attacking everyone who crosses your path but also intentionally get into other people's paths to make it appear that they crossed you, thereby giving you a reason to be even more of an asshole.

Precisely.

Adywan said he needs financial support to finish ESB:R. Approximately, how much is needed? Maybe we could all donate a buck or two, make it like a small group donation perhaps and boost the budget a little bit. I've been living with a nude ass for the past couple of months, but I could try to donate at least something.

Ady probably doesn't remember/know me very well, but I've donated in the past. I hope my donation found a good purpose. I'd gladly donate again, as I 100% support this man and the project. I am in financial difficulty myself, but let's be honest, Mr Lucas isn't going to give us what we want, so the only option left is Ady. And, if we want to see the ESB that we deserve, we need to provide a helping hand to make that happen, simple as.

Another reason why I don't use this forum much and stick with the Facebook updates... BITCHINESS! It eludes the point that we're here to celebrate "ESB:R" and support one man in these difficult times. I've been on and off OT for 4-5 years - can people just take the petty squables in private messages or block the offending muppets. Donate, debate, suggest or praise - if not either - take it with a pinch of salt (or) take your thumb out of your a** and bitch elsewhere! Anyhoo - time to make the missus a cuppa!

I agree.

In fact, I've been seeing too much of this lately. I don't wander these parts too often, but when I do there seems to be one person jumping into another person's topic and throwing in his opinion or 'thoughts' on what something should be - as if to say that their opinion matters more and they are more important so the original poster should do whatever they say or everyone should stop what they are discussing and listen. I think the word for it is hijacking - hijacking someone else topic for their own amusement/belittling of others/laying down an opinion or idea that they believe is above all. It's just childish and immature. These people seriously either need to have a word with themselves or grow the hell up. It does't do favours for the community at all.

Sorry for the rant, and I apologise if this has taken things a little off topic - but I wanted to use this topic deviation to highlight some problems that are affecting a lot of topics after seeing many people purposely butting into topics to take things off topic for the reasons mentioned adove.

SW Episode III - Reign of the Dark Side (* unfinished project *)
Time

About the Obi-wan and Anakin fight at the end, I think it would be interesting to leave a more ambiguous ending as to what might have happened to anakin. However, I think it's also important to explore the more brutal and graphical nature of his transformation.

The best way to see what would work best, would be to make a few mock-ups exploring several possible outcomes, and let us take a vote on it.

I am totally open minded. I would like to see a robocop type of brutal injury to anakin but I'd also welcome a more open ended approach or maybe something totally different, I don't know. Whatever works best. :-)

Need some fresh eyes for this next shot, cause I've been looking at it for so long. ATM anything looks good.

During the final duel I removed the line. "You underestimate my power". For obvious reasons. My problem was that with alot of the lines from this part removed, Anakin jumping comes way to quick. So I reinserted the shot when Anakin gives that line, but removed him saying anything. Using motion tracking and masks. Feel free to pick it apart, cause like I said, right now it's hard for me to judge it.

That actually works quite nicely bob. With that line gone, it makes the scene more tense. :-)

Yeah, I had the widescreen TPM VHS, and it had the white subs, as pictured above.

I don't know why the difference then, but I clearly remember my TPM VHS copy having yellow subtitles. Maybe it was a European thing?

Yeah I am pretty sure mine had yellow ones too, from the UK.

Actually, gonna try and see if I can find it!

Just echoing other opinions about the lightsabers.

I think the problem with the ROTS lightsabers isn't so much the colour, but the very different look they have at times. They are a little bit too vibrant and solid at times - perhaps I am just too used to OT, I don't know. But in the OT, you could see they were like a powered laser, and not like a straight line solid, pointy, object like in the ROTS. I guess it seems weird because they seem almost too perfect.

So I was watching ROTS again and I noticed how the blue lightsabers look very dark, not like in TPM, AOTC or even in the OT.

Maybe it's because those digital sets were pretty dark, but if you look at the promotional pictures you can see that they are very different than they were in the movie -

And this is a shot form the movie -

It's not a big issue for me, except that in ROTS they look a bit cartoon'ish. It would be cool to have a constant color throughout the series.

But what do you guys think? And, most importantly, what are Bob's thoughts about this?

That's a very good point actually. I always thought something didn't look quite right with the lightsabers in ROTS, and this confirms it.

I agree, that they should have kept them the same blue as before.
