Luke: only played Zelda and WiiSports so far, so Zelda is it. Gonna pick WarioWare Smooth Moves as soon as it's released here (January).

Chaltab: I've set my Wii at my living room, with the sensor bar right below the TV screen. The TV is set at almost my own height. The console is on the floor to the left (no chance of it falling down).

JediSage: Gah! Someone was quicker then... Well think about it this way: what if the website didn't check for the stock before concluding the order, and they contacted you AFTER you paid to tell you there were no products in stock? Also, is the Wii absolutely sold out in the US?

Ric, do you honestly believe this?

I don't support any dictatorship, but as Obi Jee said, there is a matter of threat assessement. The United States, a super-power though it may be, does not have unlimited resources or unlimited resolve. The dictator ships of South America don't present a direct threat to the United States, not in the way the Middle East does.

So Saddam was a treat to the United States in which way? Through weapons of mass destruction? How much of a threat to america is Saddam compared to Idi Amin Dada, who would personally torture and EAT the flesh from his enemies and killed 300 thousand people in Uganda? Let's see, Saddam ruling Iraq had a war with Iran, and the US sold him weapons and gave him support. Then he invaded Kwait and the US had economical interests there, so there was the gulf war. Next, on the peak of war on terror, the invasion of Iraq based on non-existant weapons of mass destruction - when South Korea, Pakistan and Iran are posing even greater threat.

What I'm saying is, if the justification for the action IS to liberate people, them yes it IS justifiable. But the reason for most wars is plainly to PROFIT from them, and use the action porpouse as an excuse for it. That is why no country ever wanted to remove militaristic dictators from Africa, for instance, and that is why the US has funded and backed up evil dictatorships around the world - heck, even Saddam himself!! So spending on war should be the consequence, NOT the real reason for fighting the wars...

But military intervention regardless of the reason is not very....Ghandi-esque, is it?

It isn't, but just to be able to answer your question I oversimplified these terms. To be completely honest to what I belive, no war is ever justifiable because we should be able to prevent them to take place, by providing education, by providing assistance in other areas, by political acts, by the action from it's own people.

BUT people try to mine this way of thinking saying that military actions are the only way to handle these situations, only violence can solve these sort of things and yet... that is not the real reason why countries go to war.

There's no samaritan, altruistic reason for going to war, it's all for the money it generates, and hidden behind this scheme there's a brainwashing on who pays for those wars to take place - we are all paying while we consume - and that brainwashing hides the scheme by using peer preassuer build patriotism, fear, and a sense of doing the right thing, by getting rid of "evil-doers".

But not all of them, eh? Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Uganda, all these places never appear on TV. And giving money and WEAPONS to Saddam, well that never happened. Sshh.

It is always justified if done the proper way by the proper reasons. A military action IS justifiable to remove Omar al-Bashir. Will it be done? No. Why? No economical profit from it. There's a military action taking place in Haiti lead by the UN, a country teared apart by war, hunger and poverty. Several nations are sending in soldiers (including Brazil). American soldiers in Haiti? None. No profit from it.

So, answering your question, military actions are justified when they are done with the porpouse of saving people's lifes and making them better. WW2 for instance was justifiable. Vietnan was not.

About the cave on Dagobah...

It amazes me how people with these kinds of questions join message boards for obsessive fans.

OK, a better one. If I was an outside observer seeing Luke attack the fake Vader on the cave, what would I be seeing? Luke waving his lightsaber in the air, halucinating?

If profiting off the war was the only reason behind it, then I'd agree. But Saddam was a murdering dictator who destabilized the region. We weren't alloud to fly over Iraq, and there was a huge obstacle between Kuwait and Iran should, God forbid, we have to invade that country.

To suggest that profit was the only motive is to suggest that the President is completely and totally controlled by the companies that arm our military, and with an accusation that unlikely, the burden of proof is on the accuser.

So why did the US back up and fund dictatorships in Iran, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, that did pretty much what Saddam did? Why didn't the United States remove Idi Amin Dada, who as a dictator in Uganda mass murdered his people for a period of 10 years? You know who removed him from power? Tanzania. And he lived freely on South Arabia until his death a couple of years ago. Why dosen't the US remove Omar al-Bashir from Sudan - he has killed and tortured hundreds of thousand! Wy not remove Mugabe? Maaaybe because there would be NO profit from doing it?

The only reason for creating wars is economical.

I've been having some problems with my Wii's Wiimote. Here's an e-mail I've sent Nintendo:

To whoever may concern,

First let me congratulate you, the Nintendo staff, for developing and producing such amazing console, the Wii. I'm one of the proud owners of one, and I've being enjoying playing it very much.

Sadly, I've encountered a problem with my Wiimote. When playing with it and performing some sudden or fast movements, as required on some games such as WiiSports Tennis, the Wiimote stops responding. The leds go blank for a while, and only after I press A, the leds go back and the first one lights up, indicating that the Wiimote is in synch with the console. A chime plays on the Wiimote's speaker, indicating a re-synch.

A quick research on the internet showed me that I'm not the only one with this puzzling problem. Some internet discussion forum users have tried to guess what could be the source, some even mentioning an IR sensor on the Wiimote that might get lost on such sudden and fast movements.

Is this a known issue? Also, is there a prompt solution for it that wouldn't involve me sending the only Wiimote I own to Nintendo for possible repair or trade, thus keeping me from playing for quite some time?

Thank you very much,

Some economists claim, although I partially disagree, that by creating a strong middle class you also create a strong lower class. The richer the middle class is, the better conditions will be created for a lower one. But the mere existence of a class of people who will be deprived of what the society may offer and are REQUIRED to exist so this society can exist is the main proof that capitalism can never, ever generate a perfect society. On the other hand, socialism can, but only teorically, as it goes against the main nature of human beings - at least, most of them.

You wanna end poverty? Invest in education. Now. Because no matter where you live, if you have enough education and prepare, you'll never be poor. Even if you can't find a job where you live, you'll create one, you'll start your own business, even if starting at informality. Proper education strenghtens the democracy, as people will not be subjugated and manipulated, and populism (an evil trend of government regime that is taking power in south america now) will not succeed. Where do you think it's most likely a dictator to rule? Uganda or Denmark? And why? Due to the economy? I doubt it. Education is the key for success. It worked for South Korea.

The Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli thread
Time
My favotir Happy Days episode is the final one, in which the Fonz is sentenced to death by a shooting squadron.

(The Fonz is strapped into a pole by the waist. He denies a blindfold and a cigarette offered by a commander. He steps back, behind the shooting line. A soldier starts to play the drums in a crescendo)

"Any final words?", the commander asks.

(Visually distressed and losing all hope, the Fonz just sighs, then, after a pause, looks to the shooters and smile)

"Ayyyyy" (BANG BANG BANG)

I've based my information about the Gamecube version on insights of a friend who is very close to the news related to Nintendo. So I guess he was wrong, and thus, so was I. I apologise

Today I was at a local store where the official national XBOX 360 release was being made. It'll be the most simple version of the XBOX 360, costing a little bit more than the Wii (thus almost half the price a PS3), with one controller, a special celebrative front-skin for the console and 3 games. The box, manual and console internal menu are in portuguese. While the initial game line up is neing released in english, every major release from now on will be fully translated into portuguese, which is a very cool thing - only SEGA used to do that, and only with a few games. There's also the network service and full national warranty and technical assistance. Based on pricing and features I expect the XBOX 360 to outsell the PS3 over here by far!
