We're hardly in the minority of people (especially in the western world) that criticize others (I'm reminded of the "How can 40 million people be so dumb" quote from the UK newspaper after Bush was reelected).

I do not hate any nation (except for my own, and it's different). I hate SOME countries political leaders, and only a few of those. I do not hate the people from any country. I don't personally know any French, but they are good people I suppose. And I belive Americans dislike SOME political moves by France, not the people or the culture itself.

That quote from the UK newspaper, I belive that is stupid, the media should not take sides at all. That's why I criticize this newspaper's headline, it's ridiculous, and also that's why I criticize Fox News. I mean, Fox News does the same, dosen't it? Do I belive the republican party is the best for america? No. Neither is the democratic, either. Would I say something like "how can 40 million people be so dumb"? I would, if moved by the emotion of the moment. Would I print it on a newspaper's headline? No.

Also, don't point your fingers at europeans for this headline, as I've heard harsher things being said about the Bush administration in america itself, so...

And before anyone accuses me of being, like, anti-american or anything like that, as I've been accused before, lemme say I have nothing against America itself, nothing. I work with and for americans, and I only have good things to say about them. I have nothing against the american cultural invasion, with pop culture and movies and fast food chains, I say welcome, you are saving us from horrible foreign food and movies. It's a great people and a great country, which I do admire and respect. What I dislike is the actions taken by the government over the years, which, I belive, do not follow what it's country and people is suppose to stand for.

Okay I think it is unfair that you are having me on that discussion, because I didn't make any political or country oriented comments. I did the Houston comment because that was the only reference I had from another country, because no one talks about it! I don`t belive ANY country is morally better than the other, that's ridiculous. And Al Qaeda and stuff, did I mention this in any form? I belive the homeles people problem, which is what I was talking about, is absolutely apolitical, and a social problem, and I was curious about it. I mean, I spoke about my own country and how it has this kinds of problems, and it's worse than any other (and YIYF, it's worse here than in San Francisco, I'm sure).

You might have me on such discussions on the political thread, and I'll reply properly if so, but not on this thread. I did not make any political comments, and if it felt like it, well, I apologize, it was not my intention.

LOL!!

Rik, get on this, you comedy genius, you.

Wrong, on so many levels.

Would be worse if it was Yoda they were talking about.

Oh COME ON! This Paris Hilton animation has GOT to be a fake!! She COULDN'T have the same pose for every single picture, unless she trained hard to keep that same expression, same distance and same angle from the camera, and she would have to know what kind of shutter and lenses he is using, and... justg cannot be. It's like, 2 photos of her face imposed over 10 other photos.

Why Leia remembers Padme but Luke doesn't

It reminds me that Treehouse of Terror episode of the Simpsons, with the actress who played Xena, and the fans ask her about a continuity error, and she replies, "Yeah, well, everytime you guys see those kinds of things... it's magic."

Same thing, with force. It's the Hitchcock's McGuffin for every single plothole and incosistence on the saga. Just... blame the force.

Wookies vs Ewoks in ROTJ.

Specially with that scene in which two logs smash an AT-ST... How did they do that?! How did they get those logs up there so quick, and knew exactly when to released them?! And hpw did they manage to get the AT-ST at that exact point?!

Really, only three to five?

I've talked with a man from Houston, and he said that sometimes the local government moves away the homeless people there for other parts of the city, depending on the need, sometimes when there's a chief of state, or turists, or something.

Let me add something here for this debate, and it'll be the only time I do this, because I usually ignore all the trollers here and ask for everyone to do the same. While AWK behaviour justifies a unforgivable ban, and I support Jay if him (and only him) choses to do so, I must play the devil's advocate on his points and views. I've read AWK's justification for liking the prequels, the SEs, and all that stuff, and to me it seems like a valid point - I say "seems", because I could be wrong, and not fully understanding what he is saying. But his point is that to him, the whole SW began with TPM, so he sees the whole saga from a different point of view. Because of that, he has other opinions, as he has made connection to the films in a different way. Do I agree with him? Absolutely not, but... since he has a different point of view, and therefore a different opinion, we should as well respect that. It would be like, banning a deaf person because they don't agree that John William's score for the films is great, well, that person had a different point of view, and therefore a different opinion, which will never be the same as ours. From day 1 I've always said, I support people who appreciate the SEs posting here, because this is a democratic and free forum, and we are to raise our opinion based on TWO different views, and neither side is absolutely correct.

Unfortunally, AWK's behaviour has not been acceptable, no matter what opinion he has, so if we do anything about it, let it be because of his behaviour, NOT for his opinions.

The problem with GL is that he is NOT Tolkien, people. Suddenly he had this huge burden of creating a HUGE intergalactical saga, filled with a complex timeline composed of an official film canon and several expanded universe facts, so huge not even the hugest fan knows it entirely. It's like asking Steven Spielberg to write a fantasy saga, he'll come up with crap too, he won't be able to handle all the facts. belivew it or not, people, GL is not a geek who reads and watches sci-fi all the time and knows how to handle an intergalactical saga in the way a fan would really appreciate, he can't do this, he's a 60+ year old director, did the best he can, and he failed. It would be like asking for Hitchcock to write and direct a 6 episode complex fantasy saga, he wouldn't be able to handle it, it is not what he did best. It's like asking your grandmother to write sci-fi, she would try, but it would be a crappy childlike story filled with cliche and plot holes. See what I mean now?

OK I'd like to propose a little experiment here. Everyone here, please state where are you from (or, where do you live), and how much of homeless people you see every day. I was always curious about how's that problem handled in other countries.

I'll go first. I'm from Brazil, kind of working and/or living in two cities now, Campinas and São Paulo. In Campinas you'll see homeless people often, but not as much as in São Paulo, where ther are places infested with them. Also, you'll see lots of children in the street, asking for money, or selling stuff like candy. You'll see lots of people aged 18-25 doing such thing, most of them are this age.

There are several homeless people in the downtown areas, sometimes even with small children with them, asking for money. Older people are kinda rare to see. You might see children by themselves in such situation, but these are kinda dangerous, because these children DO have a place to go, either their own home or an orfan's home or an institution, but they refuse to go because they are on drugs or something, and they know that if they go to these places, they won't get any.

Your time. Please do be honest.

Rank the changes made to the OT from worst to best (or least worst?)
Time
Okay this is what I would keep:

* The Biggs scene. It really should be there, adds a bit more to the whole Yavin battle sequence. Not sure why they cut it on the original release, even without the Tatooine Biggs scenes, it could fit there, since Luke had mentioned him ("Biggs was right..."), and it felt like they knew each other.

* The celebrations scenes at ROTJ. The ending of ROTJ always felt kinda empty to me. They destroyed the empire, and they are out celebrating with Ewoks? What happened on the other planets? Also, yub yub was not my favorite song anyway...

* The matte lines cleaning up, obviously. All those artifacts, transparencies (Hoth battle), black boxes, distracting matte lines, projections (Rancor scene), light sabers going off (Obi-Wan spinning his lightsaber, Vader's when the door shuts down on him), they should be fixed.

* The new Jabba palace song replacing that horribly dated Lapt Nek thing. BUT... with the original scene. No CGI added. No Bobba Fett flerting.

* People on Cloud City listening to Lando's announcement, and the new window views. I'm fine with that.

* I would keep Jabba's scene as a cut scene, which you could watch over the extras, with the original actor AND the CGI as alternate angles, but not on the movie itself.

* Ian McDiarmid COULD be on ESB, but mouthing the original words. Not changing the voice, keeping the original audio and having him mouth the words. Could work.

* The CGI sarlacc pit, if remade, COULD work...

That's it. The rest is crap.

Wookies vs Ewoks in ROTJ.
Time
He was going to use Wookies, but then they pointed out he needed more characters to sell toys, and they came up with Ewoks, so they could sell toys and lunchboxes and videos and stuff. They had the Ewoks there for the commercial factor only.

Now... wouldn't be great if one of the Jedis killed on Order 66 was killed while on the moon of Endor, and then an Ewok would approach the dead Jedi, and try to wake it up, and realizing it is dead it would bend over and sort of cry/pray over that dead body?

Okay, this is how it all went along. I wacthed it with two other friends, one of them was keen on Star Wars, the other not really. As the movie moved along it felt kinda neat, although I wasn't focusing so much on the plot. When Jar Jar came along and they started to talk to Boss Nass, I was "Ooookay, what is going on here?".

Then, we found out that Anakin had built C3PO, and then I realized... that movie sucked. All the prequels would suck. Star Wars was doomned forever.

The pod racing was pretty neat, as I remember it. And that was it, nothing good happened in the movie afterwards. The friend of mine who enjoyed Star Wars, actually left the theater, waiting for us outside, as he couldn't go on watching it. I belive some other 2 people on the theater also left, bored to hell. Then there was the whole battle sequence, along with QuiGon and ObiWan vs Maul, and while I thought that was incredibly cheesy and childish, I was kinda enternained. The other friend of mine, who hadn't watch SW yet, thought it was pretty neat, specially the final battle.

I enjoyed it, and I even went to see it a second time the following night, this time with my brother and father (which was in awe by the special effects and digital creatures, but didn't pay attention to the plot). But I knew it... I knew Star Wars was doomned...

I remember hearing an interview on TV by a fan leaving the midnight session: "Well, it is great and all that, but I belive George Lucas should make sure the characters and plot are more mature for episode 2."
