With the DNA issue they're practially taking the presumption of innocence of FUTURE crimes and tossing it out the window. Yes, they have a choice, but if we make the exception of having DNA for "criminals", then it won't be long before we do it when dealing with foreigners and immigrants (to protect ourselves from terrorism, no doubt), followed by children (in the event they're kidnapped). Things like this, and the proliferance of surveillance cameras, mandatory internet wiretapping rules, etc are giving rise to a very scary world.

I think this has the intend of being practical, instead of unethical or "orwellian". An "orwellian" situation would be to monitor that person's life forever after he has been released from prison. By collecting a sample of DNA they are basically gathering one more piece of information that could be use to identify possible criminous, which infact ARE commited by ex-prisoners. How different is taking DNA than taking a photo or your fingerprints? I belive it's not a question of being ethical or not.

A Deep, Abiding Emptiness
Time
I understand your feelings, JediSage, but I belive those are in fact good news, as such self-discoveries lead to a further development of our minds. This emptiness, or void, is an ilusion based on how we see ourselves, not of what we own or actually do. What I advise you, at this moment, is to let go of a search for material belongings and to let go of a search for an absolute perfection. That dosen't mean you must just quit capitalism, that means that you will not buy things to fill that void. And it dosen't mean you should resign of doing what is good and right, and instead focus on what you can do. You shouldn't compare yourself to the Pope, as he was, in fact, the Pope, and had a lot of help accomplishing what he did. Try to do something for your local comunity, or even better, for people close to you. Try to make your surroundings better in a peaceful and harmonic way, and you'll see how better you'll feel.

Movies you enjoy even though you know they're bad

Of course, if we're talking bad movies, the list wouldn't be complete without Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Yes, I have seen Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (the MST3K version). It's a terrible film.

I have seen Plan 9 and I must say it's not as bad as "Manos: the Hands of Fate", and is absolutely an Orson Welles masterpiece if compared with the two worse movies ever made: "Monster a-go-go", and "Os Trapalhoes nas Guerra dos Planetas" aka "Brazillian Star Wars". These two are literally unwatchable.

Terrible songs that you secretly like... (aka the all-too-brief OT.com boyband thread)

It's OK, I'll be on drums. You won't have to hear me sing. Though I'm afraid if I let you sing, you'll come off with a loud verse of that song "George Lucas Raped My Childhood."

Boy bands don't have drummers. They have a drum machine, a sampler, a synthesiser and 4 or 5 singers/dancers.

And, of course, you would record part of the vocals (the tough parts would be recorded by studio singers and mixed), with vocoders and voice treatments, and have three versions: the album version, a version to be lip-synched in live shows, and a version to be lip synched in TV shows.

The Lucas Bashing Phenomenon - brought to you by Wikipedia
Time
I like this article, I think it's quite fair and balanced, showing up the real reasons for the controversy. I just wish someone from Lucasfilm would read it and reply it, so we can see both sides. Unfortunally, like the chinese government dosen't acknoledges rebels, discidents or a free Tibeth, they don't belive there are Lucas bashers.

Now that's stupid. Can't you just make a list of educational sites you wish they didn't block, and give it to the net administrator, so he unblocks it? Most places that have those web access tules usually allow you access to some website if you justify its use.

What are the worst lines of dialogue from the 6 SW films?
Time
From TPM, pretty much the ALL the lines from the ENTIRE shooting script, but I could point out some that hurted me:

Jar Jar: Meessa give up. Meessa give up.

Anakin: Are you an angel? (Awww the PAIN!)

AOTC:

The whole sand speech.

The whole fireplace speech.

The whole "I killed sandpeople like aaaanimals" speech.

ROTS:

Palpatine: No... No, No!! You're gonna die!! (or something like that)

Palpatine: POWER! UNLIMITED POWER! (although Ian McDiarmid did what he could to improve that scene)

Vader: NOOOOOOOooOOOOooOOO!!!

Anakin: What have I dooone?

Palpatine: (a sentence that beings with...) Once more the... (... what was WRONG with his voice?!)

Yoda: Goodbye, Chewbacca. Miss you I will. (What?!)

I am absolutely sure, and I can tell because I have seen this happen before, that this guy did, like, 1 test every week, and when one of those had a negative result (because they are not 100% accurate), he assumed to be cured, and absolutely refuses to do more tests because he wants to live thinking he got cured, maybe as some sort of a self-imposed placebo. I am absolutely positive that this is the case.
