While Linux is somewhat dangling on a rope (the kernell is now kept by a 19 year old brazillian kid), it is much more stable and trustworthy than any windows platform IF you know what you are doing. Unfortunally most of us don't, so I say, get Win2003 and a 10 year old, and you got yourself a good database server, or web server, or network gateway, or whatever.

Regarding speed, you would be amazed by what a computer with Linux can do... That's when you realize how FAST a 2ghz processor really is.

Solaris, to me, is for educational porpouses only, sort of like an educative toy. It's great but very unstable. I wouldn't have a critical process running on a Solaris. But if you want to learn Java, it's great to sit in front of those cute SUN terminals and code on those... You won't need to install a virtual machine anyway!

Now, I'm not sure anyone here is familiar with the 419eater.com, but here's the deal: there is this scam being set, mostly in Nigeria, in where someone sends an e-mail saying they are part of the government or someone involved in a huge ammount of money, and asking you to help them to take part of the money away from the country. The 419eaters (419 is the criminal code for this type of scam in Nigerian law) are a group of scam baiters, who make the scammer lose time and money while playing with them, usually asking them to do silly, humorous things.

But, this, this is freaking HILARIOUS!! (after the end of the pages, clikc on next, it goes on)

I'd have it so only those who are 16 or older would be able to join. The would help cut down the childish posts that are increasing.

And how do we achieve that? How can we impose an age limit? By asking if he's older than 16?

I hate it when people tell me that. That is what my parents and teachers told me to do with my bullies at school. Newflash, it didn't work.

One thing is trying to ignore a bully who is capable of phisically harassing you. Another thing is ignoring text on a monitor.

I say it has to stop. I say Jay has a choice to make. He can have a forum full of mature intelligent posters with few limits on what can be posteds, or a forum of trolls with no limit on what can be posted. He can't have it both ways.

Warbler, I totally understand your point of view and I agree with you. I hate these trolls as much as you do, as much as all the older, serious users do, but I don't think it's fair to blame Jay for omission. He is doing what he can do under the situation and under what he has specified for this forum. Maybe with the new software he might come up with something that might make this matter a bit better...

They are taking control of our forum and nothing is being done to stop it. But I have not yet decided to leave. I am just thinking about it.

Yes, I agree that recently too many trolls have flooded this forum - which, by the way, was never really troll free - but I have to disagree with you there on Jay don't caring about it. I'm positive he does, and what he has comented and done on the subject proves it. But still he is faced with a dillema: being this a free forum, who can judge if someone should be banned or not, or what one can post or not? I gotta say I've writtensome crappy posts before, does that make me a troll, or does that make me someone to be banned? Of course, there a re a few cases in which that person's presence is intolerable, and for these cases Jay has acted banning that person.

I have suggested having a few areas where only selected posters would be able to enter, but Jay has pointed out to me exactly what I said, it's not fair to block someone from viewing certain parts of this site just because we want to close it to ourselves...

What you COULD do is to ignore the trolling and focus on what you want...
