It'll be Brazil and Australia for sure. You guys ready to face Italy?
Does that mean you are confident Italy will beat Czech Republic and top the group Ric?

Yes, I am. Italy should be able to do it's game, and so will USA. I belive Italy and USA will be the teams to move to the next round - and we'll face USA, again at the first game of the second round. In 1994 we won.

It was clearly a work of genius behind Nintendo, and a blind gamble. This could have been another Virtual Boy, although I don't think they'll make the same mistakes. I've never seen so much hype and antecipation for a console since the Super Famicon - Super NES. On the other hand, Sony went through a whole different path, sort of a brute force path, different from Nintendo that focused on criativity and fun. The price, the controller issue, the lack of good games, the GTA franchise being more XBOX oriented than PS oriented, the blu-ray support which is slowly becoming a Betamax... I doubt we'll ever see a PS4, but I wonder what Nintendo will do to top itself after Wii...

About the two red cards for USA against Italy: one of them was justified, the other was due to a yellow card. Two yellow cards in the same game mean a red card.

And well, to sumarize the whole thing, football (soccer) is not popular on USA because it's a game the country is not good at, and they are not good at because it's not popular. It's hard to step out of this circle. It's kinda like Formula 1, it's not popular on USA because the last american on it, Mario Andretti I belive, was not even able to finish a race. Ever. For a sport to be popular on USA, it's gotta be a big breathtaking show, or americans beating other countries (or themselves).

Warbler, it wouldn't mean you are getting deaf. As we get older, the frequency range we can hear sort of moves down to lower frequencies. You are not losing anything, though, the highest note a piano can play is waaaay lower than the frequency I cannot hear.

BTW, a TV on in a quiet room with no sound coming from it is unpleasent to me. People always ask my why I turn off TV's that aren't even playing anything and when I tell them they look act like 'm pretending to hear a noise.
I get that too. I can be in another part of the house and know that there is a TV on. It's like I can sense it or something. And I never leave my TV on standby - I always switch it 100% off.

I feel that but only on certain TV equipaments, and it gets more clear when a white image is showing. It is not irritating as that "mosquito" sound is, though.

So, based on what we've seen here, I'd say this invention is highly uneffective. People older than 20 can hear it. Perhaps that sound bit is a little bit too low, or maybe the computer sound equipament is not ideal for this, maybe it lowers a little bit the frequency. Also, some who might claim not to hear it might be due to equipament issues.

Later I'll try to make it a little bit higher, up to the point where I cannot hear it anymore, and see if everyone here younger than me can hear it.

yeah i didnt get that why was it disallowed. was it cause the guy was down on the field?

I did feel like he participated on that play, he sort of pushed the ball behind him, didn't he? Since there were no italian players closer to the goal line than him, the goal was not valid.

Well that was really amazing. Even though they had two out of the field (Italy without one of the players), they were able to hold that game and got a draw. Now USA will face Ghana, and who knows, they might win and go for 4 points. Italy SHOULD be able to beat the Czechs, and they'll remain with 3, so USA has very good chances of moving into the second round, where they'll most likely face... Brazil.

They'll air a tribute show this tuesday. Not sure if they'll continue doing it after that. I stoped watching them 10 years ago because it has turned into mostly toilet humor and bad pun jokes, but it was still kinda shocking, specially over the fact that it happened on germany in the middle of the World Cup. They did a film to be released in september, it's been put on hold now.

Well, Ghana won, that was kinda surprising. And deserving. Italy will most certanly defeat USA, so they'll be confirmed for the second round, and USA will be out. Then USA will play Ghana, and Czech Republic will play Italy, and we all known what the outcomes will be. So I suppose Ghana is our little African team that gets to move to the secound round, only to eliminated at the first game - every World Cup has one of those.

This is interesting: an invention that is no more than a loudspeaker emitting a high-frequency sound that aparently people over 20 cannot hear. It is intended to make teenagers go away from non-loitering zones or whatever, which I feel is kinda "nazi" to me. Nowadays it's being used as a cell phone ringtone by kids, so that their parents and teachers cannot hear it. Now, I am 23, being 24 in a month, and I was able to hear it, although it is VERY irritating. Dogs should go crazy with this thing. Try to see if you can hear it, and if you want please post your age so we can see if it's true that older people cannot hear it.

The audio (mp3)

Please don't listen to it too loud, I am not sure if this is 100% safe, don't want anyone getting deaf here.

I've seen some interviews from brazillian players lately, and it's irritating the product placement they gotta do on each of those. They gotta be seating in front of a local soda brand, with the nike symbol showing, and with an xbox 360 besides then! This is ridiculous!

On a sad note, to which no one outside Brazil will understand, a famous TV comediant called "Bussunda" (not his real name), who was in Germany doing a humorous coverage of the World Cup along with 3 other members of his comedy group died of a heart attack this morning. After taping some segments for this week's show (to be aired tuesday night), he and the crew started playing some soccer at the hotel with american tourists. He wasn't feeling well, and the crew of the show gave him some water. He was visibly not well, but refused to go to a hospital. He was feeling tired all day, and the following morning, at the breakfast, he had a sudden heart attack and died. He was overweight, so that would probably be the reason for his early death at only 44 years old.

I LOVE Manga. It's much better than the crap Americna comic-book artists produce.

*Ahem* I beg to differ, but you're entitled to your extremely nonesensical opinion.

I used to read north american comics until the mid 90s, when I started to read manga. I have no intention of buying another "X-Men" ever again.

Wii package: what would you pay?
Time
Videogames are overtaxed over here, so I'll be expressing the values in dollars, refering to how much I would be willing to pay over here.

The console, with no games and one controller, $350 (I won't pay more than that)
Every extra controller (might buy 3 more), $75 each
Each game (wanna buy at least Zelda, Sports, and Mario Galaxy and WarioWare when released): $50

I know the console is not going to be over $250, but that's how much I have planned to spend when it's released.

Get a lawyer.

I'll pre-order it when the price and the release dates are informed. I'm ready for a $250 console and around $40 games, gonna get me the console plus four games.
