That's odd. "Pink Floyd in Pompeii" (horrible) Director's Cut DVD had their menu's layout changed less than a month before the release.

Like, if you're an american and you don't like the republicans, get out and move to France? I think only true SW fans can criticize SW movies. Or am I supposed to like any piece of crap George Lucas does? If episode 3 sucks, will you still be forced to like it? If episode 3 ends up a 5 hour long silent b&w stop-motion movie with no plot whatsoever, you'd still love it, no matter what?

For some weird reason I still can't understand properly, I went to see this film this weekend. I hated it. Why can't Orlando Bloom make a movie in which he wears pants and dosen't solve his problems with a bow and arrow? Why can't Wolfgan Peterson make a good movie nowadays? Why Brad Pitt keeps... being Brad Pitt? Who cares? I don't.

Laserdisc Stop Light?
Time
It makes no sense, as the sound on a CD is digital information. If the laser can't read it, then it uses some bit correction algorithm such as CRC to "guess" what was missing. If it still can't read, it "skips" that part. A CD will never sound "better" or "worse" depending on "laser reflexion", it either sounds the better possible, or it dosen't play at all.

CGI and Digital or Real models and actors-whats your prefferance.?
Time
Well, I belive CGI should be used in the following situations:

* Animated movies - it's ok if it's "flawed", as it's not supposed to be 100% real.
* Scenes really impossible to shoot otherwise - like people falling from great hights, morphs, gigantic machines impossible to build.
* Minor corrections - visible microphone, crew in reflexions, sfx correction (matte lines, or see the Exorcist special edition for examples of this)...

CGI still can't replace good old fashioned SFX, and we know it. Not a single computer generated ship made by ILM could look as good as Douglas Trumbull models in 2001 - and if it wasn't for his work, I doubt we would have ILM or even Star Wars today.

HD-DVD

Oh great, HD-DVD, so I'll have to spend another 300 bucks on another player so I can watch the same old movies... Why can't technology just stick with something and stop?

Since we're talking about technicalities, let me ask you guys something: forgive my ignorance on the subject, but how does modern movie theaters play digital sound with the movies? Is the audio track still a magnetic tape running along with the celluloid?

Now.. to play devil's advocate for a minute... What is it about CG that makes it so obvious. I mean--even "photorealistic" CG like in The Matrix Revolutions and AotC still doesn't look normal. So why is that? I can't figure it out.

I belive this involves a number of factors, such as:

* Poor animation, the movement of the character dosen't look/feel realistic, it's quite difficult to imitate a human body movement, so many complex things going on while you move an arm, or walk.

* By lightning differences, you can "sense" that object dosen't belong to the scene. Also happens with poorly executed chroma key.

* Our brains use a complex (and still mostly unknown) mechanism to recognize faces and objects, when something goes "wrong", our brain tells us "oh uh not real", and today's software can't still beat the human brain. The closets they got so far, I belive, was with that Final Fantasy movie, during some moments (couple of seconds) I "felt" like I was watching a real person.

* The phisics are complex, and we are used to seeing things behaving "right" with the universe's phisics. That's why you can recognize a model in a movie when it's not filmed correctly, with the right light and speed. Imagine a King Kong puppet about 2 feet tall on a Empire State model. If he falls from the building, and the camera is filming in a normal speed, you'll instantly notice how big King Kong really is. Why? Because of his speed while falling, it'd be too fast. They must slow down the film at the precise speed, or else we'll notice. Same thing happens to CGI, if the movements are perfect, we notice those flaws.

So, please, for the next 15 to 20 years, keep the CGI use to animation films only!

Ok, here we go, what was needed to change on TPM:

* No C3PO, no R2D2. Anakin built c3po?! I mean, small universe, isn't it?
* Anakin should be a lonely, sad, quiet kid. Not a freaking hyperactive kid filled with cheesy one-liners.
* Less gungans. Jar Jar proved to be necessary, but he could have about 5 minutes of screen time.
* It should blend with the 70s/80s look of the original trilogy. Clumsy robots with little people inside, wireframe CGI on screens...
* Darth Maul survives the battle and is killed by Palpatine.
* Clearly show Palpatine is Sidious, I mean, who is the antagonist on that film? Who's the "bad" guy?

Oh, and for AOTC:

* Anakin a little bit more serious, quiet, and challenging Obi-Wan a little bit more.
* More Qui-Gon references.
* No "Yoda teaching kids" scene. Obi-Wan figures it out by himself.
* Better paced action sequences, a better space fight between Obi-Wan and Jango.
* Again, NO C3PO. It would be ok to have R2D2, but with no flying around.

On both:

* Acting, for God's sake! Oh, and only featuring GOOD unknown actors.
* Less CGI, more real stuff.

Watching DVDs while driving is a neat way to cheat death. One moment you're watching The Lion King special DVD set, one second later, you're decapitaded, with most of your skin and organs laying on the road.

And you can still watch it if the screen is located at the back seat. You just put your car on cruise speed (you know, that automatic speed thing), and go to the back, if there's the need to break or to turn, you can either jump really fast to the front seat, or jump out of the car, or fasten your seatbelts and hope that you won't die.

Plot holes in the SW saga
Time
I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before, or if it is a plot hole, but haven't you notice how arabic numbers and ocidental letters are featured in the star wars movies, even tough they are supposed to be speaking in Basic, and have no contact with Earth's history and culture.

BTW, the only sentence written in visible english is in ANH: "POWER - TRACTOR BEAM 12 (SEC. N6)"

This happened to me, it almost ruined the CD player, I was able to get the CD out in time, it was peeling off.

And automotive DVD player, now THAT'S something guaranteed to kill any absent minded driver.
