The Next Superman
Time
Well, I dunno... I can smell a bad director miles away. And knowing McG, and knowing what Hollywood is capable of, it would be one hell of a bad movie. Here's the life and death of "McG's Superman":

McG is hired. Internet forums posters go bananas.

The script is written:

Imagine Daredevil. Wait, there's more.

Now, take out Daredevil and put Superman on it.

Now mix the whole thing with the plot of Batman and Robin.

OK, now imagine McG trying to surpass the awfull Charlies Angles 2, WHILE directing this stinky cheeseburger of a flick.

Now, insert some cutting-edge techno soundtrack, and some bullet time, GOD knows you gotta have bullet time ina McG flick.

And what comes along with bullet time? Yep, CGI characters. What is the main character? Yes, Superman, so it'll have a CGI Superman.

The studio directors will look at the rough cut and say "Wait a minute, this movie is aimed males aged 12 to 17. What do they want to see onscreen? Yes, undressed women!" - so there goes the second unit director, probably Piton or someone with the same talents as McG, and shoots some women with almost no clothes at all, cheering for Superman, or fighting aliens or anything like that.

The studio asks for more CGI. So there goes the special FX crew, animating more sequences. McG is pleased.

There HAS to be a reason for the extra scenes, so the screenwriter is called at 3 AM by the producer and asked to do a re-write. He does it over the phone, in 2 minutes, than hangs up and gets some more sleep. The next morning he'll think that phone call was only a nightmare.

The whole shooting is done on blue screen in two months, followed by 4 months of half-assed post-production.

There are some audience tests with the rough cut of the movie. The audience tells it sucks, but the studio ignores it, as they "have not seen it with the CGI and the soundtrack yet"

Harry from AICN sees the movie, and gives it two thumbs up.

The movie is released in august, it reaches #1 at the box office and remains there for exactly 3 weeks, the time needed for the people to realize that movie sucked. It drops to #3, and the following week to #8.

Eight months later it's released in a double, special, colectors edition DVD. The pre-selling is very good, for some reason.

People buy it, see it two times and ignore the movie forever. People will be reminded of the existence of McG's Superman every 4-18 months, when they spot it on TV. By this time McG will be busy re-shooting "2001 a space odissey" with Colin Farell as Dave.

That's NOT what I want the next Superman film to become.

WHY?! 75% of the movie would be a poorly done CGI Superman flying in bullet-time sequences with Prodigy music on the background. The other 25% would be filled by women in sexist, degrating roles and by awfuly delivered one liners. McG has NO talent, he's a music video director who once watched The Matrix and thought "I can do something even cooler".

Well, I know for a fact that RANDO is a real name (just watch MST3K: The Movie), and Lando is just Rando with an L. Calrissan? A mispronouncing of Carlson

Yes, the amazing RANDO!

One question: perhaps skywalker is a name translated from Basic?

Notice how I didn't even mention the Gungan battle. I don't consider it to be an action sequence at all.

OK now remember I'm only analizing the action sequences, not the characters or the plot around it.

From the PTs, my favorite scene is the chase in Coruscant between obi-wan, anakin and that morpher assassin whose name I don't remember right now. Zed, Zid, something like that.

* POSSIBLE SPOILERS * **********
But I think the duel between Anakin and obi-wan will be even better
************** END OF SPOILERS*

From the O-OTs, Yavin battle, the speeders chase on Endor moon, and the whole battle in space at the end of ROTJ (if you close your eyes during the ewok parts of that sequence). I never liked the action sequences on TESB so much, as I consider it not an action movie, but a more serious, plot and character driven movie.

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" - Michael Corleone

Here in Oz we get loads of American news in our nightly newsbroadcasts, you know being a contender for the 51st state and all.

The thing that surprises me is the disparity of information between OUR reports of an event and the NBC news or CNN news reports or other reports of the same events. On our ABC and SBS the reporting is far more detailed than the reports from Americas own stations which will usually only have a portion of a soundbyte whereas our reports will include said soundbyte in context.

I used to be annoyed at how much focus some other country got in our news but I guess it is important seeing as how he who controls Rome controls the world. It's a pity then that the rest of the world has no say in your elections which end up impacting our lives.

"It never ends!" - Kay

Exactly, there is a disparity of information, but there are news that are not publicized on north america at all. During the 2000 election, the whole plot of voters being taken out of voting lists in Florida was being publicized over here and on Europe as well, but as far as I know, and I might be wrong, this was only turned public on the USofA almost 2 years later! And the whole connection between Bush and BinLadens, I remember reading about it one week after 9/11, and then it took for Michael Moore almost 3 years to make it public on Fahrenheit 9/11!?! Which is why I don't give him so much credit for that movie, he only pointed out the obvious in a propagandish way. (besides he is one lousy editor, talk about movie pacing problems!)

Yes, Michael Moore has a huge following, and...?

Hilarry Clinton is a socialist? Well I knew I had spotted her waving the red book of comrade chairman Mao! Oh COME ON, you guys KNOW that democrats are a right-centered party! Just because they are usually compared to the republicans, it makes then look like left-winged. Democrats are more right-winged than most right-wing parties here in south america!

You ever actually listened to /watched his show or you just going with the internet flow? Cause i have listened to/watched his show many times, and i have seen none of this. Further more there are lots of very "liberal" people in america, and polaticians that they support.

Bill O'Reilly only told six people to shut up? Geez... I wonder how many other SERIOUS newscasters had told anyone to shut up on TV. Not even the guys who cover wrestling matches do it! I get both CNN and fox news here, and I did used to watch Bill O'Reilly, you know, for a laugh. It's not that his views are distorted or anything like it, it's just that he is a sorry excuse for a news show host, you don't have to be a liberal to see this...

I dont mean that in any deragatory way i am just curious. I also find it interesting how many foriegn cable companies wont carry fox news, but will carry al jazera...

I do get Fox News in all it's glory, but I don't get Al Jazeera - and I don't want to. Over here we get news you guys usually don't, like the frauds in the elections. And buckle up guys, it's going to happen again. But of course, you'll only know it when it's safe to do so.

OK, seriously speaking: over here the news about north american politics are pretty much condensed and not very deep. They report only the UsofA foreign affairs, or when it envolves our own countries. It's well balanced, yet there is a slight liberal disbalance - which is now fading because our government now is from majorly a left-wing party, and the media usually play devil's advocate. Here in Brazil, with few exceptions, it's absolutely anti-Castro, neutral but almost opposed to the Iraq invasion, neutral to the elections. It's pretty much like CNN covers europe, you know? Bleak, neutral way.

OK, somehow I feel some people will get angry at me... Geez I promised to get away from political discussions, but they pull me back again!

OK, now, consider every SW movie so far, O-OT and PT. Now, take out any dialogue, acting and plot. What's left? The action sequences! What are your favorite action sequences, and why? Yavin battle? Hoth battle? Endor moon space battle? Speeders chase on Endor? The pod racing? Darth Maul's fight? The chase in Coruscat? The clone atack? Yoda vs Doku? Which one?

When I first watched the trilogy entirely, back in 1995 (before that I had only seen TESB), my favorite one was the speeders chase on the Endor moon, I found it to be so cool... I also loved the Yavin battle, not as an action sequence, but on how it would have blown people's mind back in '77.

These involved various celebrities, before/after each commercial break, talking about what Star Wars meant to them. I used to have the telecast on VHS, but time has not been kind to the internals of those old cassettes and I'm hoping a digital equivalent exists.

Thanks!
