So... no "Sexy no Jutsu", eh? And Jiraya's obsession with women toned down? *sigh* My little otaku heart is being stabbed every day by the ocidental world...

Groucho was originally invited to play the part that was later changed to be Sylvester's mother (he would be the father). It would be absolutely hilarious, but unfortunally he had scheduling problems and had to decline the role.

It's not "unfunny" in the "Friends" kinda way (absolutely unlaughable), it's just that the jokes are sometimes "over the top" and too slow paced, leading to nowhere (Sid Ceaser and the fireworks comes to mind). The movie is dated and too long, and the jokes are tossed in between the long "dialogue and driving" scenes. How funny is it to see 5 times the same Sylvester scene, yelling "I'm comming Momma!" with a road being projected behind him? And couldn't they have used the three stooges and Jerry Lewis a little bit more? I mean the stooges were absolutely out of job at that period, they could have been in the final climax scene... And the jokes are not witty and smart like, let's say, Pink Panther (which was produced around the same time).

Besides I always felt bad about Spencer Tracy's character, so it kinda distracted me a little from the comedy.

Still, it could be censcored for daytime like YuYuHakusho was.

Blast it! Crap!... that sort of thing.
Besides. Those words are used on daytime TV anyway.

BLASPHEMY!! That's like... putting an underware on Michelangelo's Davi!

Is that a problem?

Now this movie has been a mystery to me ever since I first saw it, when I was about 10. I've seen it about 2 more times ever since, and I still don't know if I hate it or love it. Part of me says it's a long, terribly unfunny movie with cheesy, predictable slapstick comedy; the other part of me says it's a classic featuring some of the most brilliant actors/comediants from the early 60s (altough I think Groucho Marx should be on it) and one of the best comedy movies ever made.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

The man who supposedly did it said he never intended it to be reguarded as legit, but rather wanted to show what was theoretically possible for a perfect player.

Not really. He basically did it with an emulator, using the emulator's saving points - if he missed, he just went back to where he last saved. At the end, he had the whole perfect game recorded (I've seen this video and it's not 100% perfect, he loses about 2 seconds at the second stage in World 1).

There's a legion of players who try to break speed records at games, I've seen some videos and it's insane... My favorite is the guy who finished Half Life 1 in about 30 minutes (exploiting map and game bugs).

Hunter S. Thompson commits suicide
Time
I know you didn't say anything about ignoring them, I was just ADDING to the subject, I wasn't contradicting you on it. What I DID contradict was: "The ones that actually do kill themselves never seem suicidal at all.", which, not only by my own experiences, but also according to the experience of several suicide help groups I've helped, is NOT true. The ones that actually kill themselves DO tell someone about it before they do it. Since they do, I was just addnig that if someone close to you shows such signs or mentions this subject, you could and should help him/her.

Seriously, did Michael Hutchence strike you as the suicidal type?

Bossk, that's absolutely NOT true. Most of the people who commited suicide told other people they would, so you should NOT ignore such cries for help. If anyone ever give you a hinch they might be suicidal, talk to that person. Ask them if they are considering suicide and if they have thought about the method to do it - don't worry you will NOT be giving him/her the idea to do it. If the person tells you that they are, in fact, suicidal, just LISTEN to the person and do NOT make any comments or suggestions, just listen. If the person claims they have a method chosen, and it's an easily available method, than the situation is a little bit more serious, and you should probably ask the person to see a doctor. NEVER promise that person to keep it a secret, as soon as possible tell anyone that might also help.

Of course, bizarre unexplainable suicides do happen, but they are actually VERY rare. You don't know Hunter S. Thompson personally, so you don' know if he expressed any signs of depression before.

By the way folks, if any of you has considered it, please talk to someone and see a doctor AT ONCE.

Cannot find old Anime topic thread...
Time
No, it's "Hotaru no Haka", but you'll only find it under the english title, which is the international title.

Anime films I recomend:

"Grave of the Fireflies", "Barefoot Gen": You MUST see these two if you want to be a real otaku, but I must warn you, it's a one way ticket to depressionville. "Grave..." is the only movie that really made me cry.

"End of Evangelion" and "Cowboy Bebop - Knocnking on Heavens Door", but do watch their respective series first

"My Neighbor Totoro", "Porco Rosso", "Nausicaa", "Spirited Away" - from Ghibli Studios (not sure if Porco Rosso is).

"Wings of Honeamise", "Otaku no Video" (not sure of the american or japanese title) - early ones from Gainax, must-see.

"Akira" and "Ghost in the Shell", obviously. Maybe "Steamboy".

Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix saga movies, Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis.

If you WANT stick to convencional, popular animes, try the "Bardock TV special" from DBZ (the only thing from DBZ universe that's really worth watching), the Naruto film, the Rurouni Kenshin movie, maaaaybe one of the "Saint Seiya" movies...
