What Brand Blu ray player should I get?
Time

Thanks for all the info.

When I got my LG 32” LCD, I picked it because it had the zoom and stretch mode needed fore the GOUT. + it had the component and composite inputs needed for my old games.

I had thought of getting a PS3 although that is still not cheep.

Also I am a little worried about the way you slide the disk in like a car CD player, instead of the tray that comes out like a drawer.

Why did they have to do it like that?

What Brand Blu ray player should I get?
Time

I am thinking of finally buying a Blu ray player.
But I am not shore witch Brand to get.
All I No is that I want to be shore that
it has really good DVD Up scaling / up conversion. I have
Too many DVDs to buy all my movies again on Blu ray.
And even with an unlimited money half of my collection is
not likely to ever get put on Blu ray.

I am currently using a Toshiba XDE DVD player.
So I was thinking of getting a Toshiba Blu ray player
I also thought LG may be good as I have an LG LCD TV.
What do people like here?

Project release formats - what should we be using these days?
Time

Mainly trying to get an idea of what is possible.
And NO I do not have a bluray burner.
And no I can't download it all at once. .
Just Downloading 1 of Harmy's SD DVD’s was a challenge.

Which  is why I like physical media.
I could go to a store and buy 5 blu rays   faster than I can download one SD video.

Now HOW IS THAT CONVENIENT ?

we are going with the following for our project:

1) full frame MKV 1920x1080 file that can fit on a 25G bluray disc

  (for those with digital projectors)

2) 1080p bluray compatible files / letterboxed - 25G files

3) DVD-9 files for DVD-DL - 9G (maybe a DVD-5)

4) MP4/avi files - 2-5 G

there will be no large scale physical disk distribution,

except for the private workprints, and the initial seeding.

all of it will be usenet, torrent, and lastly file locker shared.

we will have a few minimal menus, that's it,

with a few soundtrack choices also. we are using commercial

consumer software for the final product. no custom settings,

except to max out the video bitrate, and fit 3 soundtracks

on the discs.

later

-1

So the largest file would be a 25G bluray disc?

Just wandering if you broke the movie up into reels,

could you put each reel on 1

Standard 1 Layer DVD?

And have 6 reels, on 6 discs

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Who knows, maybe in time I'll get a new computer and some better sources than GOUT will surface (and they just might) and I'll do a v3 in 1080p.

Anyway, I figured out a way to make the crawl look better but it involves a lot of work, including redoing the crawl in 4K, rendering at 4K and then resizing in photoshop in at least three steps, so I may have to postpone the rendering to tomorrow.

Well when -1 is finished maybe you can do the partially Respecialized Edition.

Using mostly -1 but cleaning it up with blu ray.

IMO Harmy's recreation fall somewhere in the fan-edit territory, as it contains After Effects compositing done by Harmy and leave some SE compositing in there, technically a new version of the film takes shape. I applaud his efforts and know that calling it a fan-edit is downplaying his work and intent, but I also feel that it's important that we draw the lines correctly of what is original and what is not.

I think the best way to describe Harmy's is a reconstruction of the Original.

half the time i'm watching it on screens or projected,

it 'feels' like film.. because of the gate weave, dust, dirt,

scratches etc, that are still currently there.

 You mentioned gate weave.

Is that do to the scanning or is that how it was filmed?

I know that the GOUT had rely bad gate weave that made me seasick.

It doesn't offend me that some people don't like some of star wars - what offends me is the way some people express their dislike.

Have you seen The Star Wars That I Used To Know video?
Or more importantly herd the song.

Wow! That ought to be our theme song!

That is awesome. Everything in the lyrics is true.

These lines by George stood out for me...

"But Star Wars will be done my way
I don’t care what you have to say
I think that they should let it go
And they’ll never get the Blu-Ray of the Star Wars that you used to know"..

Not sure why you are looking for tapes without Macrovision.  It is very very easy to copy tapes with it.

My current setup can do it, and I imagine most other people around here could do the same.  Especially if you have a capture card of some type installed on your computer or something like an Canopus ADVC110.

Macrovision essentially used trickery to make older recorders THINK there was a problem with the signal, thus you would just get a bunch of tearing and chroma goofyness.  Any modern recording method (like the ones I mentioned above) pretty much just ignore the trickery from Macrovision.

I am trying to get an idea of what I first saw Star Wars on.
I am almost shore it was a copy of a rental. At the time the
only way I would have gotten it was to have a tape without Macrovision.

A toy forum may be a better place for this question: http://forum.rebelscum.com/forum.php

Rubber disintegrates, maybe wipe it down with some alcohol, but that may cause it to break down more.

Well I have not been able to get on that other forum but

Many people else where suggested alcohol fore sticky

Rubber. I try it and it works so far, after the alcohol I put some hot water on a old sock to wipe off all the alcohol then I wiped it dry. Then I put a new sock over the handle before putting it in the box. In the case that the Styrofoam packaging was to blame for the problem I did not want them to make contact.

Maybe this explains why the ESB Luke saber

grip is not the same as the ANH grip

Any way if there is not already one I may convert this to light saber discussion.
