Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes

Maybe it's Boba Ffet when he was 23, while he was still one of the elite imperial stormtroopers. Then he escaped just before the Death Star blew up and because he would be considered dead by the Empire, he could take on a new identity and slightly change the spelling of his name and become a bounty hunter. ;-)

Now, I don't think this qualifies as a change (at least not because of the "star"), since the "star" only appears in the first frame of the shot and it's probably just a speck of dirt on the negative, so it's just basic cleanup.

i want to do a couple of grindhouse versions afterwards,

with gaps between the reels, and the heads/tails.

 that’s  what I meant  when I said.

It may be a good idea to synch each reel separately
For example
Reel 1 ends with
{C3PO}
“Why I should stick my
neck out for
you is quite beyond my
capacity”
{R2D2}
“Whistle”
Fade to black
Reel 2 would start with
{C3PO}
“Thank the maker “
Fore the heads/tails in the film
You over lap GOUT
I am thinking of looking for missing frames
As a posed to removing extra frames.
There is the stuff  about the spliced in craw
such that may have extra frames to cut.
But I hope you get what I mean.

For any one that would like to know

I found this site and got out my GOUT
http://fd.noneinc.com/Reel_Changes/Reel_Changes.html
Here is what I got.
Reel changing locations by dialog
For dummy’s.
It is not frame accurate but it will give you an idea
 of where in the hole movie the Reel changes are.

Reel 1 ends
{C3PO}
“Why I should stick my neck out for
you is quite beyond my capacity”
{R2D2}
“Whistle”
Fade to black
Reel 2 ends
{Tarkin}
We will then crush the rebellion
With one swift stroke.
Cut to dead Jawas.
Reel 3 ends
{Obi-wan}
“You’ve Taken your first
step into a larger world”
 Cut to Vader on death star
Reel 4 ends
{Luke}
“It just let go of me and disappeared”
Cut to ?
Reel 5 ends
{Han}
“I know what I’m doing”
Cut to
“All pilots to your stations” ?

This is why I wish that Puggo GRANDE

had been dun in HD.

What are the odds that Puggo GRANDE

would be missing the same frames?

not likely at all..

i don't think it syncs with the GOUT either,

but then again, its using the mono mix.

 later -1

 Just to be clear I was thinking  the  Puggo
frames could be used to fill in the gaps.

I guess with all the audio projects going on here, it's not really that problematic to NOT have sound coming with the files.

you have to be careful,

even trying to synch it with the GOUT audio

will not work correctly. it's close at times,

but it's not exact.

you will have to stretch, trim, or alter either

the frames or the actual audio to match up

with it....

Why? I mean, are there frames missing? Because if not, the sound of the GOUT would fit, wouldn't it?

Assuming this project outputs at 23.98 fps, then yes theoretically it can match up to the Gout, but when you're dealing with film, there can always be differences in frames. Especially around the reel changes.

I remember I had a editing class that used.
Final cut pro.
There was some way that you could edit using a low quality video so that you would not have to wait for ever rendering on every change. Than when you edit was dun you could put in the hi quality video and it would automatically edit it to what you had set.
Considering what you said about reel changes.
It may be a good idea to synch each reel separately

Well your method seems to be literally combining frames. Which opens a whole new can of worms. It could look really good for a "view" version though. (vs a preservation version)

 I know there would be problems with that  method.
But it could look good. And it would not remove all
the grain. Just one generation of it.
don’t think I am one of those  “grain is bad remove it all” people.
I was also thinking that the grain in some of the composite shots would help hide
Garbage matt’s. Garbage matt’s that I never saw until 1997 and 2004.

I had a Future idea for a clean up.

But it would require getting more prints and scanning them.

(So reel 3 and reel 4 are the problem?)

But the idea is every print has its own dirt, scratches and grain.

If you have too prints of ever frame,you can use software clean it up to look more like a 2th generation as a pose to a 3th generation print

That's basicly what they do in film restoration labs if they don't have the originals. They take ~5 films. Take the best frames of every single one of them. And then they adjust contrast and such so that it all matches. Making a very good looking print.

I was thinking of some thing like this

Lucasfilm will not do it that is the problem.

But -1’s work will be much better than GOUT.

As for colour inaccuracy. The colour in the faded film

is vary much inaccurate it self, and will have to be manually

Corrected.?

From what I understand, and that is not much.

This process is not perfect but is pretty darn good.

And at the leased, if Harmy ever gets a computer that can do 1080p,

He will not need to use GOUT, for Despecializing.
