Nice! One of my favorite tracks!
Nice! One of my favorite tracks!
Shin Godzilla is wonderful.
Hey, this isn’t the elite opinions thread!
Ray’s gonna disown me for this…
Gojira (1954) is the only good Godzilla film. And only the original Japanese version is good; the American hackjob with Raymond Burr is worthless and every copy on every format should be collected to be burned.
Haha, no disown here!
I’d never assume someone who loves the original masterpiece would also love a silly movie like Megalon.
Have you seen Shin Godzilla? I’d think you’d like it. A fantastic reimagining & perfect allegory for Japans recent trilogy of disasters & their governments poor response. And that score… Chilling & beautiful. Actually won picture of the year in Japan. A first for a “monster movie”.
I still maintain that Luke didn’t actually save the galaxy - a fact that renders his entire ‘new hope’ journey somewhat meaningless to me.
Luke was the only one who could get through to Vader. Vader was the only one who could destroy the Emperor.
Without Luke, there’s no hope. He saved the galaxy by redeeming his father. (or, by Returning the Jedi, if you will)I also hate the sister thing. Luke should have gone off alone in search of “The Other” at the end.
I’ve beat this drum several times in these forums, but the best way to explain my unease wth Luke’s actions is to boil it down to the following - what exactly did Luke tell everyone at the Ewok after-party?
If he’d said “I defeated the Emperor” that would’ve been a lie. He didn’t beat the Emperor. He surrendered and circumstances luckily prevailed in a way that led to Palpatine’s demise. That’s it. What Luke actually did was a) refuse to fight (after a brief and justifiable tantrum), b) spare the life of the second most evil guy in the galaxy because…well, he’s dad, and c) declare himself a Jedi and throw his weapon aside. All of this, by the way, while countless innocent beings were being slaughtered outside.
He probably said “I redeemed my evil father, Just like I told Leia I would & he killed the Emperor.”
All of those actions, or inactions, saved the galaxy. *shrug
Nor can I see why anyone would even consider the possibility of a new Jedi Order based on these actions.
That’s EU anyway. Nowhere in the film does Luke even hint towards restarting anything.
[EDIT- I guess the ST says that Luke went on to do whatever, but that’s not in this film]
Han dying would have been a tremendous slap in the face.
We just spent a movie watching Han & Leia fall in love which ends tragically, but a glimmer of hope. That hope needs to pay off, not die off.
I think Hans character was underused & at times misunderstood in Jedi, but killing him isn’t the answer.
Also, the “Leia becomes Queen” thing…
Queen of what? She was the princess of a planet that was destroyed years ago. When we first meet her, she’s mostly using the princess thing as a ruse, hiding the fact that she’s part of the Rebel military.
If Owen had worked harder at being a father figure to Luke instead of a grumpy old boss, it would have been a very different movie…

Will the new bluray be used to make any further changes to ESB:R, or will it remain as is?
(aside from the 1 or 2 things Ady’s pointed out)
[edit- Ady just said he’s offline for a bit & here I am asking questions. Apologies.]
I LOVE Back to the Future!
I don’t like 2 & 3 at all.
“We don’t need roads” is a better ending to the story than Doc Brown’s locomotive time machine.
For sure!
Interesting. I’ve always thought Crusade was the fan favorite.
Related,
Raiders is the only Jones film I like, & I really love it.
A perfect adventure movie.
Temple would be great if they’d written a decent female character instead of the offensive ditz we got.
She ruins every. single. scene.
Crusade is fun in a more family-friendly way, but it’s not something I’d watch again, if not for constant airings on the Movie channels.
Skull is total trash. All the problems of the PT in a single film.
Bukowski, Charles - South Of No North
Good stuff.
TOS is the only good Star trek stuff.
Including the movies, right?
Yeah.
The original Ghostbusters is the only good Ghostbusters thing.
Not an unpopular opinion, unless you’re referring to the actual original Ghostbusters from 1975.
Ah, not that one. But I rarely meet a GB fan who doesn’t like 2 or the cartoons or some kinda BS.
On From Star Wars to Jedi you can hear the original English vocals.
It’s a workout song, for sure. I’ve always wondered why. AFAICT, the song was written for the movie, so… ?
Actually, after thinking about it today, weird exercise songs were kinda popular around this time…
Still makes no sense for the setting, but.
From the ESB thread:
There is another ice cream maker

Ice cream must be popular in this galaxy. Had no idea it was so important to Luke!
^^ Nice! reposting elsewhere…

I just thought this was interesting to think about: In this shot, Liam Neeson had to act as if he somehow quickly hooked his lightsaber onto his belt…when, in reality, he just dropped it onto the ground. 😛
😄 The silly things actors find themselves doing for us!
OK, an actual “small detail” I never noticed until a week or two ago (also involving Liam Neeson):
[pic]
You’ll need to go frame by frame to see it. As he whips his lightsaber out, his robes move in such a way as to indicate that Liam had the entire thing, blade and all, underneath his robes.
I noticed this back on VHS! 😃
I’m sure George woulda’ fixed that, but it was clearly an “artistic decision” or whatever the party line is.
Any interest in working this into 2 90min films instead of one 150min film? I feel it might help continue the pulpy, cliffhanger style of the Star Wars films.
Also, any interest in dropping the “The Mandalorian” title? Like I’ve said elsewhere, it’s a long, ungainly, ugly word & it’s total nonsense to the uninitiated or even casual fans. I’ve got no alternates to suggest right now, but could help come up with a few if you’re interested.
Why are you disappointed with Jeff Goldblum?? How would he have known?
TOS is the only good Star trek stuff.
The original Ghostbusters is the only good Ghostbusters thing.
I hate anything with “National Lampoons” in the title.
I hate Airplane!
I hate all the Naked Gun movies. (Despite this, I like Leslie Nelson quite a bit. Forbidden Planet, Police Squad! & Creepshow cement him as a class act.)
On a serious note, this would be kinda cool, I feel like most fictional universes don’t pay attention to the evolution of language in their worlds. But I would be surprised if they actually made the effort to have everyone speak in the old republic like Yoda.
What’s more likely, in my mind, is the culture/language of Yoda’s species follows that pattern, but if baby is raised by Mando, or other Basic speakers, then he will speak normal. But who knows anymore, haha.
Good points & cool ideas, but I bet it’ll talk like Yoda. Cause that’s what people like. ugh.
Enfys Nest
How is this pronounced?
Nice. Seems to be coming together quickly!
^ Yeah, I liked that too!
I especially liked that when Gary Whitta worriedly asked Gareth Edwards how he feels about making a Star Wars movie with no lightsabers he responded with “I feel great!”
I kinda take it that it was Gary who insisted on a Vader slasher scene, not Gareth.
Dark Future
I think they’ve done that. I stopped watching em after T3 though.
No Fate
This is good. I’m ending the film with the text “No Fate But What We Make” on screen, so this might work.
Machine Boogaloo
This is even is better!
Dropping the “2” no matter what title I give it. Unless I go with Part 1 & Part 2…
I’m also thinking about giving the original film a subtitle.
I’d like something that sounds like an old pulp novel, but oddly, I’m coming up blank.
[I guess these aren’t quite random thoughts, but I’m not ready to start a thread about my projects, nor do I know if I even should.]
