I think you’re reading way more those rough sketches that what the images show. The first image provides no information on wardrobe at all. It’s just a dark figure. Those aren’t fabric lines on the figure laying down, just normal flow lines in this type of figure sketch.
Obviously Lucas likes scantly clad damsels, it shows up in RotJ, but those pics provide no evidence on plans for a nude Leia in Star Wars.

^ True. When they first arrive, Luke figures they’re all about to die in the DS explosion.
But that’s before the Emperor reveals that it’s all a trap & it’s all working perfectly.
Like I said, Luke is really flying by the seat of his pants. “Instinct.”

Good conversation. It’s making me realize I like RotJ more than I thought…

Or not.

But it does work. The Emperor attacks & Anikin Returns.
You may not like it, & that’s fine, but that is what happens.

Just throwing his weapon aside and saying “ha ha you can’t make me angry” might be a nice piece of Zen, but it’s completely useless as a means to defeat evil and is of no value whatsoever to the thousands being slaughtered outside.

You’ve missed the point. It was Luke flipping the tables.
He was goading the Emperor to attack, just as the Emperor had been doing to him, believing that when he did, his father would return & kill the Emperor.
And it worked.

I mean there is nothing to indicate that this is Luke’s intention. And does Vader really look like he’s in the mood for a bitchin’ team-up at that point? I think this whole “Luke planned it this way” thing is a real stretch.

Luke didn’t plan for it to go down the way it did, he just knew he somehow had to Return Anikin.
You’re right about one thing: Luke is stumbling through & flying by the seat of his pants. Adapting to what’s happening & acting on that “instinct” Obi-Wan was telling him about.

I wish there were no Star Wars films made after Return of the Jedi.
The episode numbers would remain a cool artistic choice. The series itself a classic, untouched product of it’s time.
The EU would only have to take the Trilogy as canon, & several continuities could co-exist, being unrestrained by any of George’s plans for further entries.

Luke is the Jedi that is returning.

From where?

Either way you take the title, this movie is still about Luke. Nothing changes that.
Nobody here is saying that it was Anikin’s story all along. But I do think the title refers to Anikins return. Which is Lukes mission the entire film. He says it over n over.
That doesn’t retroactively change the focus of anything. It’s still Lukes story.

Another point, the Rebels didn’t even know Luke was on the Death Star. The only one he told was Leia.
Who’s he having to explain himself too?

Surely, these guys asked where Luke got off to?

I dunno. I’ve never heard a grunt ask brass where a commander went. If they did, She could have told them he was on a secret mission or any such junk if she thought they’d get upset with the truth.
Which they wouldn’t & it continues to be a silly agrument.
