THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)
Time

Hey guys. I was looking to see if anyone was working on a preservation on THX 1138 and just found this thread. Sounds like you guys are on it! I've read through most of this but maybe we can have a recap on the sources that are available and what is to be done with it. I mean, taking whats best of each source or picking the best one ect. Just wondering where we're at here.

What does the blu-ray set have to offer?

And before you say it, no, this isn't fake. It's taken direct from the new "sounds of Star Wars book"

Ain't no lie. I forget where you originally posted this Ady, but I rushed out to Borders too see for myself. It's just too ridiculous. I really can not believe anyone would think it sounds anything but silly.

...then again, I couldn't believe that the original cg Jabba was approved for the New Hope SE.. Or the horrible herky-jerky movement of a cut-and-moved Han dogging Greedos blaster fire... or a stupid cg band for Jabba's palace... or... ok. Never mind. I believe it. ...sigh.

As for why they used what looks like a Tie Bomber, that goes back to the concept work for A New Hope. They had originally designed a boarding craft that was later written out of the script:

That's interesting. What was the boarding craft to be used for in ANH?

Actually there is a third symbol that appears in ROTJ. It's tattooed on Jabba's arm and is supposed to be that of his clan:

Well, yeah, there are other symbols in the films besides the Rebel and Empire logos, (the Mandellorian skull or whatever immediately springs to mind) but they don't have strong ties to the main characters and events that our story is following.

Personally i'm more interested in the crappier side of this phenomenon, crowd noise and the occasional head in screen are what i'm after.  Would like to hear real people getting into the spirit of the movie.  But to find those, you have to dig up all the 'preferred' preservations which are more about saving the film quality not the atmosphere.

This is what i was hoping for when I first looked into this thread an something I'm very interested in as well. I'd love to have a copy of ESB with audible and even visual crowd reaction.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you do see the Falcon's turrets firing in ROTJ.

Yes, you do, but there are no good "hero shots" of the Falcon gunning anyone down. I think a shot from over the shoulder of the top gunner chasing down and blasting a fighter would be great. And a reaction shot to the gunners grinning face would make me cheer.

You know my care for Details... But WTF with this crawl seriously ??! The main reason why I see people would want something else is to me that they want to be sure they have every version possible to be able to tell they have the "best"... While it doesn't improve the quality...

Or do they want to propose something just to... propose something ? In a way they could have a role or a word to say? Actually that's something great when people propose good ideas to improve a project... But not after 40 pages of the thread when the carrotts are all rootten (and I know what I'm talking about!). Push the red button D_J, just don't pay attention.

And beware the new D_J's avatar says it: he's angry !

PS: If you could add a few stars behind the crawl though...

PPS: Thank you all again for the kind comments btw.

Wow. I had no idea there was such a heated debate going on here.

Well at least to me, since this is suppose to be as close to theatrical as possible for these, I really don't want it there since it originally wasn't, so people that do want it, will just have to do it themselves.

Yeah that makes sense. Even though I prefer the other version, I'd say that's the best idea.

EPISODE IV was not on there back when it first came out was it? I thought that was added later, and if so why would people want that?

No, it wasn't there originally. I'd like to have it 'cause it links the films together as a series (not that they aren't without it) and I like the continuity. But I totally see why some, if not most, would want the original version.

Here's a little something I'd really like to see in Jedi. During the space battle, it would be nice to see the Falcons gunners like Han and Luke in 'Hope. I love those gun turrets and targeting screens and it would be nice to see shots of the battle from that view point, see another couple rebel characters in the film and add some cool shots of imperial fighters getting taken out. You could maybe even add a bit of dialog between them and Lando at one point.

Yes? No?

Just curious, Doesn't the GOUT have the original crawl? and if so what is it you guys want?

I was gonna ask which crawl is used on the GOUT. I figured it had the EPISODE IV on it. I'd prefer this to have it actually. But it's not a deal breaker. I'd really like the option to switch, but I totally understand if D_J doesn't want to mess with it. Though, if he doesn't, one of you who know how to should. Team work makes the ...thing work.
