 it slows the pace,

I believe thats the point, its used to balance4 out the running time, since there will be much cutting of other things (Ewoks etc.), so we need something to keep the film from seeming too short.

Cut the Ewok vs. Empire stuff, add Rebels vs. Empire stuff.  This way there's no shoved-in extra plot line that leads to nowhere the film doesn't already go and would make for a more believable and action packed ground battle.

The  reason we were trying to go with bothans was because of mon mothmas line  in the briefing, I personally do not mind NOT having this scene.

"I know."

Ray_afraid, I think that's a fair comment, and as much as I enjoy pondering many of these ideas, a big part of me agrees with you.  Yes, we are trying to slow the pace (which is why I especially like my tiny little version of the Bothans delivering the plans--slows it a bit, but not too dramatic), but I worry a whole new scene would be too out of place.  I like the ideas, but I just don't see how to make them fit.  Obviously I like my ideas, but even my own little scene gives me pause as feeling out of place.  The only reason I wrote it was to go along with the vote.

It would make for a great short film, but I just couldn't accept it as a part of the trilogy. Actually, I'd love to work on it collaboratively as a short film.

I just don't see how any of this Bothan/plans stuff makes for a better movie. If anything, it slows the pace, shows us info that we don't need and it would be the only sequence in the trilogy that doesn't involve any of our main characters and therefore would stand out, at least to me, as un-star wars.

Okay sugar.

One idea I've been tarting around on the wishlist thread for some while is that when the Rebels enter the backdoor bunker, instead of going underground to the reactor room (do we need another reactor blowing up?) they enter a service elevator leading to the just under the projector dish.

The reactor background could be replaced by a view of the skyline and perhaps a bit of the dish showing.

The Imperial officer gets knocked off an exterior balcony of the tower instead of into the reactor area.

When the charges go off instead of blowing up half the forest it just snaps the dish off which slides downhill cutting off the power to the Death Star shield.

When Han and Leia watch the station explode and have their little chat about Luke it takes place inside the wrecked dish.

Big effects project but it would make the conclusion of the ground battle look more visually interesting and it would be kind of poetic for Han and Leia to watch the Death Star go bang inside the carcass of their slain dragon.

LOVE it!

How did Luke not know Vader was his old man?

which all brings about a bigger question,  is the Galaxy aware they under Sith rule?

I'd say no. from what we hear in the OT, few people seem to believe the Jedi/Sith were ever real to begin with. Like Han says "...I've never seen anything to make me believe in one all powerful force." Which makes no sense when you take the prequels into account. Han would have been 5 years old when this galaxy wide Clone War broke out and Jedi seemed to be everywhere.

Which all brings about a bigger question: Is everyone in the galaxy really THAT forgetful? Less than 20 years before ANH, Jedi were everywhere and everybody knew about 'em and trusted 'em and saw them preforming miraculous tasks day in, day out. Then, suddenly, everyone either forgets about the whole thing or claims they never believed anyway and then everyone lets a evil looking and sounding monster-faced Sith lord takeover rule of the entire galaxy without pause.

What's Your Favorite Version of the Krayt Dragon Call?

lpd said:

Before I new it was supposed to be a krayt dragon call ....I thought the sandpeople knew of Kenobi and were scared of him.

.....the appearance of Kenobi scaring them away, as a kid, always made more sense to me than the noise scaring them.

I'm with you all the way! Honestly, I'd prefer it if instead of an animal noise he was just shouting and yelling and waving his arms. Would back up his line "They're easily startled, but they'll soon be back."

However, the original noise is perfectly fine and, like everything else, never needed to be changed. The new one is just embarrassing.

Replace the Falcon with the derelict in Alien and have Luke practice using his lightsaber by slicing face huggers jumping out of eggs in the cargo hold.

After escaping the Death Star Luke and Han shoot down TIE fighters while sitting inside Space Jockey chairs.

umm.. I'd watch that.

At least twice.

Yeah, that actually sounds awesome.

Also, right before the Rancor attacks Luke in ROTJ, Leia shows up in a mech suit and says "Get away from him you BITCH!"

Hell. Yes. Let's make this happen.

i know its not perfect....but if I kept at it for a few more hours it would be a good bit better....

Just wanted to bring this back up before it's forever lost under a pile of Bobba Fett...

This looks so good, even in this form, that it would be a real shame if it isn't used in ESB:R.

What's wrong with Fett having a name and/or appearing in RotJ? I never thought it was an issue for so many of you.

Fett does have a name. (it's Bobba Fett in case anyone didn't know) But I (and others apparently) see no reason to shove it into ESB. Might as well make sure someone calls Lobot by name. He plays just as big a part as Bobba Fett.

There's really nothing wrong with him appearing in RotJ, but there are more than enough reasons posted for him not appearing and removing him would get rid of his silly death scene, so I'm for that.

Part of what bothers me about the possibility of Boba not being in ROTJ is that not a single character would even refer to him by name. If Vader himself said it than it would be a more than fair trade-off and I'd be totally on board with the Jedi deletion.

I actually love the idea that he would never be called by name. Makes him (or her!) more mysterious, threatening and interesting.

Also, Bobba Fett is a silly name and he's better without it ; )

Haven't read through this entire thread, so I hope I'm not retreading to much water, but here's my idea for the opening of ROTJ that I posted in the ESB/ROTJ Wishlist thread. I'm no good at posting pics to show exactly what I'm talking about, but I think you can follow...

Opening text would have to be altered to mention that Luke has returned to Dagobah to continue his training.

After opening text, we pan down to Darth Vaders Super Stardestroyer near the uncompleted Death Star.

Cut to Darth Vader in his mediation chamber talking to Luke telepathically through the force urging him to join him on the darkside.

Cut to the deleted scene of Luke in the cave working on his new lightsaber. Edit the exterior of the cave to resemble Dagobah. Luke shakes the voice in his head and continues working and then ignites his saber.

Cut back to the Super Stardestroyer and we see Vader's shuttle leave for the Death Star (why was he leaving from a standard Stardestroyer originally?) continue to the original opening scene with Vader and Jerrod.

After that scene, cut to Yoda's hut on Dagobah for Yoda's death scene. After Luke says "So I am a Jedi.", leave out Yoda's line about having to face Vader again and just cut to him saying "When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be." This way we get the idea that Luke has continued and now finished his training with Yoda. Yoda dies, the conversation with Obi-Wan is had, Luke takes off in the X-Wing and then cut to the Emperors arrival on the Death Star. That scene plays out like normal and then cut to the droids on Tattooine and continue from there. This all gives plenty of time between seeing Luke leave Dagobah and his arrival at Jabbas palace.

This would give the beginning of the film a more menacing tone with Vader still haunting Luke and more of a build up to the action at Jabba's palace. Agree? Disagree?

I think the most good addition on this are the AT.ATs at the end when the MF escapes. Really solves the mystery why they are gone and reminds me the promo picture of the battle aftermath.

Good work

But when did they put down a walker right outside the back door? I don't remember that.

Yuck. And it still doesn't explain why Annikin's body didn't disappear.

And in any case, I'm still for chopping the shot. It's just silly. Like Vader is standing there goin' "Woah! What happened? Is there a trap door? Can he shrink? Is he invisible and running naked through my new super-weapon?" And then he just totally shrugs it off altogether, and proclaims that this is the day that saw the end of Kenobi. But if he isn't sure what happened with the disappearing body, how can he be sure Obi-Wan is really dead?
