Did they really need Carbon freezing scene in ESB?
Time

Anchorhead said:

From the first time I sat in the theater, I've always read that scene differently.  I felt the "I know" was his way of telling her that if he didn't make it, he wanted her to know he understood her feelings.  That they weren't wasted or unappreciated. He would die knowing the truth.

This is how I've always read the scene as well. It's very 'western'. He's been showing his interest in her the entire film, no need for a "I love you too". She already knows his feelings.

Most people seem to think it's played for laughs, but I find it heartbreaking.

Worded that wrong. Not sure if you are aware that they did actually name the band after a hetero slur. I was sure you were joking about not listening to 'em any more.

I love Kim Deal!*

 obviously he didn't.

Yeah, obviously I didn't or I'd now know that there is only one definition for the term 'homo', and it's disparaging. Always. And tremendously so. I'll have my fists ready next time someone says 'Homosexual'. If the final three syllables are dropped, it's clobberin' time!

And you're wrong about homo.

I'm not wrong. It's no more a put down to homosexuals as hetero is a put down on heterosexuals.

Are you fucking kidding me?  When was the last time someone used hetero as an insult?

Did you even bother reading the links I posted?

I've never heard 'hetero' used as an insult. But that's my point. "Homo" is only derogatory in certain context. It can be used as an insult, but so can most things.

Are Muslims really trying to take over, or are some people just suffering from Islamaphobia?

I agree.  And therein lies the hypocrisy.  I just wish I could have caught them in the act.  Bingowings probably would have been especially defensive.  He rushes to the ultimate defense of some, while he is immediately on the assault for others, quick to point out only the virtues of one and only the flaws of another.

Now you're setting traps for people?

I'm not wrong. It's no more a put down to homosexuals as hetero is a put down on heterosexuals. It's all contextual and I see no wrong done here. Hotrod says he meant no harm. If his intent really was to piss people off, why wouldn't he just say so?

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?
Time

AntcuFaalb said:

So does anyone think this won't happen?

I mean, we've been fucked-over so many times over the years that I still don't know what to expect from the Disney acquisition of LFL.

I haven't seen anything good come from Disney's purchase yet, so I'm not sold on this being a sure thing. And even if it happens, I doubt it will be handled with as much care as Harmy's Despecialized Editions. Are we even sure an unaltered print still exists in the LFL archives?

OT members are very touchy lately.

Homo is a gay slur. If I'm the only one who is willing to call HotRod out, so be it.

It's not a gay slur. Nor was what he said an attack on homosexuals or even rude or offensive. I guess in a setting like this, it could be seen as 'gay bashing' if there were any evidence that hotrod was really trying to be mean spirited or hurtful, but there isn't as far as I can see (just a playful poke at Warbler). Maybe I missed something important to the case or I'm just not reading it with the same tone you are.

Do you discourage them from the act?

 No way.

Do you hope they will eventually follow your non-smoking example by virtue of being in your presence long enough?

I have no hope for that. Nor is it my goal. They know the health risks and it's their choice to smoke or not. My hate of cigarettes is very selfish. I just don't wanna smell like I've burned a pack when I quit years ago!

This, btw, is why many people are tired of your posts ... If most people haven't noticed, it's probably not worth fixing.

Total BS. If Ady had said from the get-go that he planned to do many of the things Ronster has now proposed, most of you would call the decisions "brilliant".

What causes rainbow colours to show up in striped objects in B&W films/TV shows played on a regular TV?

High-frequency luminance information in a composite video signal results in chrominance cross-talk, due to imperfect luminance/chrominance separation in the comb filter.

 Da-dum-pish!

This is getting a much bigger laugh from me than it probably should. Thanks for that!

I love that he's named it after the goop from 'Make Room! Make Room!' / 'Soylent Green'. It's creepy, but it makes me happy.

EDIT- did they eat soylent green in 'Make Room! Make Room!'? I don't remember what all was changed for the film, but I do remember that they are quite different...

HotRod's Playgroud - The thread where he can be a hypocrite, a bigot, and a jerk without screwing around with other people's threads

Am I the only one who feels like this thread is accomplishing nothing besides animosity? Why can't we all just get along? I tried to lighten things up, not only did that not work, but I still don't know what a playgroud is.

So I respectfully suggest that everyone vacate this thread and never return to it.

Agreed. The wallpaper in this place is unbearable. I'm outta here.
