I admit to browsing the internet on my phone during some of the more disturbing parts near the end, just to make it through.

It just seemed to me to be designed to appall. He had his retort to the BBFC prepared in advance. Okay he has the right to make these films but I can't help but worry about the sort of person who feels compelled to even try to watch them.

Why? I watched 'em both. Didn't "try to" either. Just did it.
The first one was lame, the second one was better.
Why are you "worried" about me?

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)
Time

I think I probably mentioned this before, but I know rsortor has a very nice print of ESB. 8mm I believe. He screened it for me a few years ago and I was blown away. The colors and picture are very clear.
He hasn't logged on since November, but if you'd like I can contact him personally. He lives in my town and he's a super swell guy.

Obiwankennerobi, have you considered maybe YOU were the problem?

I fear you may be on to something. I've been given strange looks and a bit of ribbing for some of my interests that differ from what some consider "the norm", but I've never been given any real grief from it nor has it ever hurt my chances with the ladies. That kinda thing is usually down to your personality than your interests.

The quality of the CGI
Time

I thought some of the CGI looked crap when I saw 'em in '97 (Jabba, dewbacks, stormtroopers, stupid looking comedy robots, Cloud City buildings, Jabba's silly showtunes band, Sarlacc beak...). Some of that stuff I'm sure would look even worse today.
I haven't watched the Special Editions since the night I brought the DVD boxset home in 2004. I remember they changed the Jabba in ANH, but I don't remember being much more impressed with the looks of him and of course the scene still seemed wildly out of place.

To me, the SE's addition of crummy CGI gave the films a much more dated look than the original versions.

Well first JJ wrecked Star Trek now he has done the same to Star Wars. No way I will even see the trailer for this "movie" now,it's not worth my time.

Are you sure that article is 2 Legit 2 Quit?

Eh!?
I know nothing about this site, so I dunno if they are serious or not, but that quote, the lack of confirming links and the weird author bio seem to indicate that it's a fake news site. Just not a funny fake news site.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * <strong>SPOILER THREAD</strong> *

Both of those (especially the dewback) look like they could be real world creatures to me. There's nothing comical about them unlike the goofy pig monster.
Sure the thing will look better under the right lighting, but it's design is pourposefully silly and not realistic at all.
Just my opinion, of course.

I must say that pig creature looks ridiculous.

It's no more silly than a Bantha or a Tauntaun.

Not in my book.

Having read your book, I'm confident it looks fine without having seen it.

I'd usually agree with you on this, Frink. But I'm afraid I have to side with Impscum. That thing looks silly and stupid. It wouldn't even be able to hold it's own head up.
I also agree with those saying the leaked pics strongly favor the Phantom Menace.

Like the Death Star goof couldn't that just happen in real life?

Of course, but a real Stormtrooper would've taken a second to fix his helmet, whereas an extra can't do anything to draw attention to himself, so he just walks out of the scene with his helmet askew which is silly.

I agree. I dunno how it could be fixed, but I'd love to see it happen.

Ray,

it is my understanding that the crushed blacks are unfixable using the blue ray as the source. See hamy's making the despecialized Star Wars Youtube to see why. The detail in the black areas is just gone. ANH:R suffers the same problem.

however as ady has shown with the restored cockpit shots, he has access to a HD film scan of ESB. Therefore from that source the information lost in the crushed blacks is still present. A lot of work to restore.... But it could theoretically be done.

matt

Harmy's editions are why I'm askin'. The detail restored in his SW:DE is absolutely amazing. I'd love to see the same done to the Revisited projects if possible. In fact, it's probably what I'd be most excited about.
But, if it's not doable, it's not.

Except for the low res Vader eyebrows lol

Vader doesn't have eyebrows in Star Wars and Harmy hasn't restored the crushed blacks in the other two films, so that's not what I'm talking about.
Also, Harmy's first efforts at repairing Anikin's eyebrows in his edition of ROTJ is very much appreciated.

I'm not saying to really critique him, but it was more of a joke hence the "lol"

Why so defensive?

*Anakin

Your post seemed very dismissive and mocking of Harmy's efforts. I worship his work and won't have it slandered.

I think it's highly unlikely it's going to be a slow plot and character-driven drama as opposed to a hyperactive action movie

 A shame, that.

It is, assuming it's not a George Lucas PT movie. I like movies that take their time. Look at ESB: it's very slow, especially if you compare it to modern action flicks. That's a good thing because of what maintaining that kind of pace allows you to do. You couldn't have written that movie around frenetic action beats every five minutes. Luke fighting a dozen Sith Lords on Dagobah (because nothing's happened action-wise for several minutes already at that point, and we can't have that) would've ruined those scenes.

Yep. I gotta admit though, that despite my better judgment I'm holding on to the hope that we will get a true sequel to ROTJ done in the style of the OT. Actually, the reworking of the script to put focus on the OT heroes gives me just a bit of faith.

You are still reading Spiderman comics?  You are a braver man then I.  I gave up after that One More day and civil war garbage.

I dunno how old you are or how long you were a reader of Spider-man, but I've been reading long enough to have been through worse than One More Day.

Clone saga anyone?
"No, thanks."
Just checking.

I never give up on characters I like. When dealing with comics, especially ones that have been around for as long as Spider-Man, I look at the big picture rather than each individual story. There are probably more periods of Spider-Man that I hate than periods I like, but the overall story and character of Spider-Man is something I love.

...........Any way if you want to understand how i feel here is the link.

I understand how you feel and I agree OMD was stupid and insulting. That's why I made the comment about the big picture VS individual stories. The nonsense introduced in OMD will be written over and forgotten soon enough. As I said, I figure things will go back to normal around the time they release Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The Crimson Spider was cool though. Very cool. And Ben was a decent character. The arc had it's moments. But not three years worth of moments.

That's Scarlet Spider, not Crimson Spider. =P

You're right, though, about the length and overall quality of the Clone Saga. Having re-read a fair amount of the Clone Saga in recent years, it's easier for me to spot the bad writing now than it was when I originally read it as a kid. Too bad executive meddling caused the storyarc to be dragged out far longer than was originally planned.

Ack! You're right, of course. I had the Crimson Ghost on my mind I guess.
The Clone Saga sucked, but look at what happened after that. Things went back to normal and the stories got good again for a time. I'm sure the same will happen in the wake of One More Day.

God I hope so...

Truth be told, I love Ben Reilly and still consider him my Spider-Man. His death was the main reason I eventually stopped reading and collecting the comics.

I love the Crimson Spider as well, but as far as storytelling, One More Day was far more interesting and better told than the overly convoluted Clone Saga.
Also, OMD way only 4 issues long. CS took three years! Were you buying those issues as they were released or did you read it all at once after it was over? I was there issue by issue waiting and hoping for that thing to become more interesting. It never did.
