Why I dislike Adywans Star Wars revisted

(I don't like Star Wars Revisited, or Empire Revisited, even though I haven't seen that one yet.)

Did you really need to start a new thread for this denouncement? Couldn't you have said this in the general Star Wars discussion thread?
Was this necessary?

At least adywan can spell words good. Also, what 005 said.

Since we are at it... technically "good" is not an adverb.

Never mind. This made it worth it!
Frink, you're settin' 'em up without even trying!

For the people getting "Forbidden" on the link, who is your ISP?  I am getting the error with Comcast, but if I go through a VPN, it works.

My ISP is Mediacom. I dunno much about VPNs, so I dunno how to make that work. Thanks for the tip though.
I'm going to a buddies house latter. Maybe I can get it there. I hope so!

Han should be jealous in ROTJ - it's actually a part of his character arc.  He goes from acting like a tough mother I-don't-care attitude to actually wanting to settle down with a lady and talk about his feelings...

Most guys that act tough do so out of low self-esteem in the first place - he's only showing that he's able to deal with his feelings and take the high road "I won't stand in the way" instead of the typical tough-guy "Meh, I didn't care about you anyway..."

By being jealous, it shows he's matured...  As odd as that sounds...

I've got no problem with Han showing his feelings, it's that he's already done that in ESB and he and Leia have already confessed love for each other. Han shouldn't be worried that Luke is gonna get the girl. Han already has her.
ROTJ should have shown them as a new couple rather than acting like they didn't fall in love in the previous film.

re-posting from the ESB:R thread...

Something I think ROTJ (would) benefits from is removing the whole Jealousy of Han... Let's face it, Leia frees him from Carbonite tells him she loves him and put's her own life in grave danger to get her man back. Han continuing to question weather or not she still fancies Luke is a drag and diminishes what we have seen previously.

I slightly altered your first line, but I don't think I changed your meaning and
I couldn't agree more! In ESB we watch Han and Leia fall in love and even express such feelings to each other. That building relationship takes up most of the film! Han being openly jealous doesn't fit his character and it undermines everything they went through in the previous film and even the opening scenes of ROTJ. It's a bigger insult than Alien3 killing off Newt and What's-His-Face in the opening scene.

I'm not ignoring anybody.
I'm only being ignored by MTHaslett, but I think he's ignoring everyone, so that's not much of a badge of honor.

JEDIT: I was being ignored by jeditemple34. HE's the one that's ignoring everyone... what did I do to get kicked outta that club?
And what did I do to MTHaslett?

Some of the CGI in Jurassic Park looks worse than folks admit. it's the full scale animatronic dinosaurs that steal the show.
The brachiosaurus that sneezes on the kid looks no better than the CGI dewbacks and you can clearly see the difference when it switches from animatronic to CGI in that scene.
It does help that the CGI in JP is shown in dark rainy settings rather than in the bright dry sun of the SW:SE.

It also helps that the filmmakers of JP really wanted this new tech to look convincing and took the time to make it so. George didn't seem to care.

Guys, it's only actually creepy if Luke & Leia know they're siblings... which they don't. It's maybe sorta creepy if the viewer knows? Maaaaybe? But I'm hoping in the Revisited saga, the viewer won't.

Any speeding it up would only introduce weird sped-up-ness.

I dunno man that's how I get over the fact that it's in the original but if we're getting what may be the definitive version of the trilogy then we can go without any incesty-type-stuff. And I should have clarified that I don't mean just speeding up the film, but using that as well as other editing tricks to make the kiss shorter in general.

There is a love triangle in the original trilogy which is only resolved by Obi-wan revealing that two of the people in the triangle are siblings. It's okay for that to be in a movie.

When does Leia show any kind of love toward Luke? I'm not tryin' to start an argument or whatever, anyway you interpret things is fine, but I've never bought that 'love triangle' thing. Leia digs Han from the moment they meet. Luke never had a chance.
Anyway, as other have pointed out, the kiss is no big deal. No need to change anything there. Leia doesn't know Luke is her brother and she only gives him a quick smooch to piss off Han.

Mark Hamill looks so cool

I'd like to see Mark punch the nose of everyone who has said something like "The OT cast is too old to carry a Star Wars film." He already looks a more interesting character than the cast of the PT or any of the new cast I've seen.

Also, I can only imagine Skipps' voice coming from him in that pic!

I created an xdelta patch for going from the pre-fix version to the final fixed version (with correct audio labels, etc.). If you have the old version and don't want to redownload ~20GB or muck about with mkv editors, you can use this. Just extract it to the same folder as the mkv video file and run the .bat file. You need to make sure to have the same name as originally downloaded or to edit the .bat file if you've changed it. And be sure to have another ~20 GB available before starting as it will create a whole new file!

Dropbox link, hopefully will work here

I tested and verified, the fixed version should match the official md5 of 1e34878403b05924f71354e961016fce after completion.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is this?

I'm really glad to hear that the next version has the repaired version of the scene.  One is able argue either way for the flow of the structure of the scene based on how it is played out, for me the issue is continuity.  As a twelve year old kid I was noticing that C3PO's behavior was not consistent throughout the scene and it has always been a speed bump watching the scene.

My main issue with the scene is how it makes Obi Wan appear in his intentions.

In the theatrical cut, Obi Wan plays catch up with Luke before checking out the message from Leia. In Ady's version (which restores the edit to how it was scripted), Obi Wan plays the message first, then butters Luke up with the intention to talk him into joining him.

To me, this makes it seem that his small talk with Luke is manipulative, and that he only wants to hustle Luke into helping him, if that makes sense.

In the theatrical cut, with the small talk coming first, it makes it feel more like Obi Wan is genuinely interested in catching up with Luke before getting to business with R2-D2. To me, this makes Obi Wan seem like a true friend to Luke, since he had no ulterior motive to make him want to have a friendly talk.

I don't know if the way I'm explaining it makes sense, as I've tried to tell others why I prefer the theatrical edit to Ady's in this one instance, but it's rare that anyone seems to agree with me on my reasons.

If I had Adywan's talents, I would rather attempt to fix the continuity of C-3PO without changing the edit of the scene, rather than change it back to the script version. Unfortunately, that is not within my skills as an editor.

Okay, just wanted to throw in my two cents on this topic. Thanks for reading.

I think you've got Obi-Wans motivations right.
But he isn't Lukes old friend. He's been waiting to get Luke involved since his birth. That's why he's hiding on Tatooine. So the way Ady has the scene play out makes perfect sense to me.
Obi-Wan is a bit manipulative. That's why Luke isn't sure who to trust by the end of ESB. Luke even calls Obi-Wan out on it in ROTJ.

It just seemed to me to be designed to appall. He had his retort to the BBFC prepared in advance. Okay he has the right to make these films but I can't help but worry about the sort of person who feels compelled to even try to watch them.

Why? I watched 'em both. Didn't "try to" either. Just did it.
The first one was lame, the second one was better.

 Really?  REALLY?

Yep.
I'm not exactly sure what your questioning...
My post was mostly joking. I didn't think the second one was very good either, but it did hold my interest more than the first one..
I suppose the some of you may think I'm a violence loving psycho or something, but I assure you I'm not. I do watch horror films almost religiously though. Most of 'em suck, some I find offensive, but the good ones are worth wading through the cesspool. Watching the Human Centipede movies was just more wading.

I've watched some gruey stuff in my time but I've never been drawn to watch a film where some lardy old guy wraps barbed wire over his percy and rapes a smashed in woman. Maybe it's artistically justified but it's just not something I can see going down well at the Chateau. It goes without saying I'm getting a bit too old for that sort sensation seeking. I have dentures.

I get ya. Nothin' wrong with that, I just feared we were veering into a Donahue situation with an angry mob pulling pitchforks out against gory horror movies. I don't dig on that kind of thing either, but I don't condemn it.

Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965)
I love this film. Just about every line of dialog is quotable. The cinematography is beautiful and the soundtrack is great. I've heard some rip on this movie as being nothing more than shaking ass and male fantasy, but those people obviously didn't see the film. Roger Ebert wrote a perfect review. You can read it here-> Roger Ebert review

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
Charming, funny, exciting and fun. I don't have much to say about this except that I love it. Check it out.
