What if TFA is awful?
Time

Don't we already have one of these threads?

My group of buddies prefer to ask a different, more interesting question when discussing Star Wars:
What if TFA is actually good?
None of us have much faith in that being the case, but it'll be cool if it is.
And if it's not, well, it's just another bad Star Wars movie. Most of 'em are, so no big deal.

I know it's something supposedly minor but am I the only one who is very disappointed at how bland the new Imperial, ahem, First Order vehicles look like?

The TIE/fo in particular (it's been practically confirmed that's the official name based on the X-Wing board game and Bandai's upcoming scale model), it's just a normal TIE-Fighter with some very minor detail alteration and negative colour scheme! White radiator/solar panels and black hull! ... Meh.

Some aircraft & spacecraft designs don't change very much over time. And the TIE is probably hard to improve on.

In the real world, B-52's are still flying, and Russia's still launching Soyuz space capsules.

I don't mind the design itself (in fact, I love TIEs) and you make a fair point.

What bothers me is that essentially they discarded the evolutionary path already established in RotJ with the TIE Interceptor and just went with a new paint job. One that also really screams "it's a toy!" to me.

I agree. It's only the way it is because it will remind the audience of the original film. Just like the dessert planet, the lead lady is dressed like Luke was, X-Wings instead of A's, ect.

That jet looks much cooler than the little twin pod cars. If it were just one pod, they'd look dull, but fine. Making em two cars connected is lame.
But the lame design doesn't affect the film at all really. And hopefully this lame lightsaber won't either.
The difference is that the cloud cars weren't IN YOU FACE WITH HOW COOL THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE!!! like this new saber is...

^ Wook, I keep reading that, and can't make any sense of it for some reason....

Did I just have a stroke?

The same version has been released twice?

So there were dvds released in 2011 that were different than the 2004 set? And those were included with a bluray set released in 2013?
I'm not doubting, just trying to get things straight. I didn't think the same version had been released since the faces set.

What is your favourite star wars author mine is Timothy Zahn
Time

I haven't read a single Star Wars book that felt anything like the film, so I'm gonna say I don't like any of em.
But, it's been about 20 years since I had any interest in the EU. So there are plenty of authors whom I've never read.
And I'm ok with that. I just don't have much interest in Star Wars outside of the original film and Empire.

EDIT-

Brian Daley hands down. He perfectly captured the spirit of the galaxy and his stories were always fun. His work on the radio plays alone and how they expanded the films was brilliant.

Oh, yeah, I do like the radio dramas. Very much. So I'll say this Brian guy is my favorite too.

I talk about, plan for, and celebrate Halloween pretty much everyday all year long and October 31st is still the most wonderful time of the year for me.
Ender can talk about and celebrate his favorite day all he wants, anytime he wants.

Freedoms, yo!

(But we should only talk about Star Wars in May, as that's when the movie was released.)
