How do you feel about Star Wars being re-titled A New Hope in 1981?

The Princess of Alderaan would have been such a better title…

I’ve seen that passed around, & I disagree.
If Leia was the main character, maybe. But it’s clearly Luke’s story.
(Also, the aping of Edgar Rice Burroughs is right on the nose. Dunno If I hate that or love it.)

I think it would be a fantastic title for a retelling of the events from Leia’s POV. And I’d absolutely love to see that told in any media.

How do you pronounce Tantive IV?
I’ve always said “Tant-ev Four” but apparently it’s supposed to be “Tan-tee-vee Four”???

Also, I love having individual film threads as well as a Trilogy thread.
I think each film deserves it’s own topic & it makes my Aquarian need for over-organization happy.
As do the matching header images! More of that, future thread makers!

The blurb;
“Promo found on the early 90’s era video releases. Also includes a plug for the BTS documentary From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga.”

Awesome.
I got that trilogy set with the doc for Christmas early 90’s. Best Christmas!

Why do these need to be posted separately? Would be easier to have them in the first post. Or just make a Youtube playlist out of them.

I haven’t posted many videos of late, but how would I go about editing the first post (in a thread I didn’t create) to include or update videos?

You obiviously can’t, but the thread creator can

Yeah, ZkinandBonez. Get on it. Did you not realize that creating a new thread is akin to taking on an extra part-time job?
Geeze, man.

I love Star Trek to death but the pretentiousness its hardcore fans have exhibited regarding how “serious” and “important” it is has always rubbed me wrong.

Same. This attitude kept me away from the entire franchise for most of my 39 years of life.

Star Trek is hopeful, and idealistic, but it’s also very often dumb as rocks and silly as shit.

A couple of years ago I realized that this is the truth about it. And I now love TOS.

I disagree with your idea that Ahsoka making a cameo means we’ll get a prequel situation with loads of boring Jedi everywhere.

I’m not worried about that. It’s just that the fewer known Jedis there are in an immediate-post-RotJ universe, the better it fits my head canon. Luke showing up would fit. Goofy-looking (sorry guys) PT Jedis showing up would not. That’s just a personal thing, but anything can work and be good. I’m keeping some faith that this will keep being a show I’m interested in next season.

Disney won’t keep pouring unlimited money into this show, so the effects will get more “TV” as the show goes on. De-aging effects look great in high-budget movies, but I’m not so sure if it can work here.

This is true… But really, if the story around it works, I’ll always forgive less than perfect effects.
I really think they could do it well enough, but I really doubt they’ll do it at all.

Oh boy… Here come the Jedis…
Boooo.

What’s wrong with Jedi? They’re literally the cornerstone of the entire franchise. It’s pretty unreasonable not to expect them in some form. Go watch Star Trek if you want soft sci-fi with no mystical powers.

lol Calm Down. It just suits my personal canon better the fewer Jedis we have running around.

I kind of wished they did try to de-age Hamill for Luke or something. If Din really needs to meet a Jedi.

If done right, (and I think it could be) I’d absolutely love that.

Since 1981 was the first “Special Edition” what with the opening flyover being changed, I actually like that the title differentiates the '81 (& onward) version(s) from the original '77 film & makes the new version part of what would become a trilogy while leaving the original version to stand on it’s own.
In my mind, they’re two separate movies & I very much wish they existed that way publicly.
What do you think?

How do you feel about the inclusion of “Episode V” in ESB’s opening crawl in 1980?

Better than Star Wars II.

“The Empire Strikes Back” is better than “Star Wars II”, sure.
But the question is: Is having the opening crawl say “Episode V” better than having it say “Episode II”?.

Again, I think leaving out the first three episodes was just very cool. An odd, weird thing that would be better if it just remained that way with no PT ever being made.
(But since I don’t count the PT/ST anyway, I guess it remains a cool/weird thing about the OT for me.)

You need to check out TCW, man. Ahsoka’s great once you get past the first season.

I just can’t tell you how put off I am by everything about that show. I don’t care about Jedis. It doesn’t look like the Star Wars world. I hate the visual style.
I’m just not interested in Star Wars outside of the OT & I don’t feel like that story is missing anything that a PT or ST needs to fill in.

The only way I’m watching it is snuggled on a couch with you. Otherwise there’s nothing in it for me.
