Octorox, yes just a quick mockup for the video side of things. Thought about leaving it silent, but realized it would look frozen without the music coming out of the crawl (it really hangs there a long time).

Edit: also agree that it removes even more of Kylo’s seeking our and finding Palpatine. Mustafar really isn’t a scene, it’s just a part of the larger build-up.

Yeah, I agree. I think of the issues the Mustafar scene has, the simple one I remember raised here is that it was unusual for a Star Wars opening to smash-cut from space to a planet surface. Usually there’s a couple establishing flybys. It’s one of the many pacing issues, and a little scene buffer could help.

Personally, I’m indifferent to Mustafar. Kewlfish, Chase Adams and others have done a good job mining options for this. I do think the battlefront footage, while fun, feels like a lot of extra outside material. If we do add 1-2 establishing shots to this scene, I think they should be simple shots that match well with the Kylo stuff.

I’ve posted two versions of the Mustafar tie flyover to the Master Clips folder on my drive, one that’s 5 seconds (same timing as original) and one that’s 6 seconds with about 2 seconds before the ties enter the frame. Each has a version with and without color correction so Kewlfish or whoever wants can add their own!

Yes that’s the documentary, but I don’t want to use a YouTube download unless I have no other choice (like with the forest fire footage). The Blu-ray should provide a much less compressed source.

No actually, but I’ve built comp in such a way where I can just swap in the master clip when I get it. If anyone has access to a usb Blu-ray and can rip the shot straight from the bonus disc, that would be great! It’s at about 2 hours into the doc, there’s a whole portion about filming the Lars homestead.

The thing I’ve noticed about that whole scene is the constant changing of background colours. It’s a really nice scene you’ve made there.

I think given that it’s just as the sun is rising, every angle would be very different lighting-wise. I think that’s why as long as the same angles match each other that’s all you need!

Is there any way you could add a few seconds before the tight fighters come into shot? I’m trying to work out transition times. Such a good scene. Thanks

I think there’s about 6 seconds from the original footage that’s usable (before it there’s a fade from black and after there’s titles on screen). The clip I posted is 5 seconds. So I may be able to make an alt where I add the 6th second, and have the ties come in 2 seconds later, so you have 2 seconds clean and 4 seconds of ties. Would that work?

I usually use firefox plugins to download clips but now I can only grab the 720p files. I can then send you the shot with the ties for color grading!

The suns are rising, at least in the final shot they are. They actually move quite significantly over the course of that 10 second shot.

First off, I love all of the other work being done here and the other threads; it’s really great and inspired!

Yeah I figured as much. And since I need check out if a 4K source is available anyway, the video will likely have to be swapped anyway, and there’s the mountains issue, so the whole thing is incomplete! No worries, we’ll get there! Thanks to you and idir_hh for putting it all together.

I have to say, is there any consideration still to just using the audio from the alt take? While I love what idir and Chase have done, I find the camera angle from the alt-take to be off (because it’s from the BTS camera of course, in the uncropped shot you can see the actual cinema camera). It just seems to me it’s not the most cinematic angle and she should be looking more towards camera like in the theatrical. Still open to anything but I figured I’d share that thought.

Also, Poppasketti, have you made any more progress on the face-morphed “Just Rey” clip? That is the version I am keen on obtaining! 😄

I keep opening it and tweaking the audio, making it worse, making it better, then worse. The video side of the morph I’m happy with it’s just getting the audio to feel right that I keep fiddling with!

Right now I want to upres the lightspeed exit shot with the clip Hal sent me. Then there’s the falcon end shot, which I think is pretty close with Option E. I want to take a few days away from it and look at it fresh before making any more tweaks! I can make available any version people would like, it’s all full res. Speaking of, if anyone would like a clean video plate for the final shot, there’s two versions in my Master Clips folder, one with just Rey and one with no one.

Hey Chase, that’s good work! I was going to mention that I can take a stab at the hyperspace exit. I think what you have just needs a couple of frames with massive motion blur, which I’m happy to do.

I sent idir_hh a color-corrected version of the alt “Rey Skywalker” take last night. I think a little camera movement will also need to be added. I just need the raw clip (which idir sent me I believe) to finalize it. My usb Blu-ray drive is broken, so any shots I work on I need someone to share a link to a prores file!

For Mustafar, that’s a good first pass, Kewlfish! Keep going! Is that the only shot that’s needed? Do you want the shot through the clouds and the Vader castle approach?
