Hal, I know you’ve been through the ringer on this one, but Icecream’s on to something:
jonh those look fantastic! Just awesome!
Hey ziggy, thanks for taking a look and for your feedback! It’s great to hear!
I think your ideas make a lot of sense, and I can hear the stronger cue of the Palpatine theme from Return of the Jedi as Rey is suspended in mid-air.
I think with this scene, which had some iterations of the eyes, we decided to keep it subtle so as to not distract from the main action. We just wanted to leave hints or breadcrumbs to be found later, saving the larger reveal for the ending scene with Kylo-Ren.
Unfortunately, I’ve become extremely busy lately for various reasons, and I don’t have any immediate plans to dig back into this project. If I do, however, your suggestions are worth considering for sure!

dgraham,
Thank you so much for sharing that story. It’s really great to hear when these edits are shared with family and across generations. It’s one of the things that makes Star Wars special, and it’s a testament to this community, whose combined efforts created this and so many unique edits across the site!

VNC to the rescue. Here’s what I have at present.
Thanks Hal! I was going to say no rush, since I have a busy day as well tomorrow. Definitely didn’t expect you to remote into your computer, but again, thank you!
And thanks jarbear! Glad it’s feeling good!
Sounds good! Could you send me a clip with the audio and the wipe? That will help me adjust timing. It’s really hard to just slide everything forward because the parabolas get out of whack really easily. I also made the Vimeo link downloadable so you can see how it feels on your end too if you’d like to test!
Snooker, very nice! Great to have you back!!
Good point poppa. I do like it very much still.
How about this?! I think this feels more Star Warsy!

Yeah I guess that would feel more Star Warsy for them to scatter. If they’re chasing someone who got away, though, why would they do a sudden about face in empty space? They’re not about to crash into anything? And why fly in different directions instead of forming up together?
Would it be possible for them to abruptly break apart, sort of like how a TIE in TFA breaks from chasing POE right after he enters the rip in the thermal oscillator? Like there’s no point going straight anymore since their prey is totally gone?
Yes! Please do this! We only need to see them quickly and not all of them.
Probably needs some tweaks, but something like this?

It could refer to Poe altering or skipping proper lightspeed calculations causing the Falcon to be damaged on the jump to hyperspace. Either way it’s just nebulous technobabble without the actual skipping scene.
FWIW, this is how it would read to me too. Poe is about to do something crazy to escape, Chewy reacts to it, the Falcon bursts through an ice wall into hyperspace. It seems like that would be enough to damage the Falcon and justify an argument with Rey about it. The “skipping” part would just sound like random technobabble to me.
No, it’s actually on Poes hair. It’s a large brush clone just above Poes right eye. Could be on a separate layer? I’ll send you a screenshot if it helps?
Ah, thanks MR!! It was a stray mask, staring me in the face the whole time! It’s fixed now.
Great job Dude, Not sure if you noticed but there is a large clone dot on Poes fringe in the 1st and second frame.
Are you talking about the round lighting panel in the room behind the falcon cockpit? In any case, I took another look and made a small adjustment anyway, because anytime I look at a shot I want to make a change!
If poppasketti wishes to share the clip, he showed me something he did to show the TIEs continue along their trajectory without jumping to lightspeed. However, that would fit into an Option A scenario.
Sure thing! This came about because I had some free time yesterday while there was conversation here about having the ties break off from the Falcon chase after it jumps to hyperspace.

No worries at all! People use many different methods to share shots here. I tend to use vimeo to share work-in-progress, and then when it’s done vimeo allows you to make the clip downloadable, which puts a download button next to the player (and if you click “Original” when downloading it be the exact file uploaded, so in my case prores files). I also use google drive, which seems to be more and more popular here. It’s nice because, like vimeo, allows you to share file and uses youtube’s player if you don’t want to download!
Edit: Agree with liambrazier about password-protection, that’s one of the things I like about vimeo!
Hey Flash Sideways!
Yes, I posted the vimeo clip above. I had the exact same idea, and while searching for “Just Rey” I found your clip! I think I even sent you a youtube PM about it a while back, asking if we could use it here, but I ended up just doing it anyway for fun (had a lot of time in lockdown). Your tutorial gave me some ideas for the tracking and I think the end results were similar. Your work is great, and it’s always fantastic to see under the hood!
Removed Klaud from that 3rd shot, Chase, and sent Hal an updated clip!

If poppasketti prefers option B, then that’s good enough for me! lol
I’d be happy go to with whatever the consensus is.
For the Option B you posted, is that an opportunity for a wipe instead of a straight cut (to Rey)?
I like option B as well! The dialogue feels more complete that way, and as others have mentioned, things that happen off-camera get referenced all of the time in Star Wars.
I also like the banter between characters; imo, it’s part of what makes the ST feel more like the OT than the stilted dialogue of the prequels. I’m not sure I understand what’s wrong with Finn’s “Always” line? To me, he’s showing some personality and establishing that these characters have spent some time together between movies. It seems like pretty economical story-telling.
Hal, you call them “steamed clams” despite the fact that they are obviously grilled.
