I have the PAL Pioneer test disc as well, I'll feed the same test patterns through the DMR-ES10 from a 2850 player and see how they compare.

Wish I had the same disc you are pulling your test pattern from so we could do a direct comparison.

The pioneer discs are mainly to use alongside a service manual. With them you can tune up your player to minimise crosstalk, ringing, dropouts etc. by using the patterns with a scope (or a software scope) and get your player working as well as it can.

Oh, and there is no pluge on the colour bar test pattern.

Okay, here are the same test patterns from the X9 composite to a DMR-ES10 then output via SVideo (Y/C) to the Blackmagic Intensity.

Either way, it's a good result - there is no dot crawl between the colours on the colour bars, and no rainbowing on the moiré pattern (apart from at the glitch/linedrop about 3/4 of the way down).

That one was using the Crystalio comb filter. The rainbowing is insane using the composite output.

Just for fun, here are three captures from the same JSC disc all using the same player, a HLD-X9.

Captured in 10bit RGB via a blackmagic intensity card.

On top is Composite output from the X9 straight to the BMI.

Middle is X9 Composite to a Panasonic DMR-ES10 then out to the BMI via Svideo.

Bottom is the X9 Svideo output direct to the BMI.

The pioneer reference disc GGV1069 is still available from Pioneer USA and is about $30 from memory. I bought one just a month or two ago.

The HE010 one that is in stock at that link is actually a demo disc with some test signals at the end. It contains hi quality video material:

Ramp test pattern

As requested, here are the test patterns from the Pioneer GGV1069 reference disc. Captured with a Pioneer HLD-X9 via an Intensity Extreme.

The actual geek part is trying to find the keyhole.

I found my old Han Solo plastic blaster toy, the one that takes C Cell batteries and makes the blaster noise via a little motor.

It is complete except for one of the circular pieces of plastic that hold the battery hatch closed. Anyone that wants to hock me one of those plastic pieces if they have the piece but no blaster to go with it 😃

I have an older M-Audio 5.1 card and the difference between it and the onboard soundcard are chalk and cheese. The difference was quite astounding. I wasn't expecting any difference really, as I just wanted it for better connectivity.

When I finish some captures I'll try that tool out and post the results.

The drivers were a bit annoying but the audo quality fantastic.

Just let me know how you would like them. There is a huge selection of test patterns.

Which player did you end up getting?
